  • This study investigates the employment and spatial mismatch as a significant acting factor of deepening urban poverty and analyses the placeness of regional labor market that the more efficient place-based labor market intervention needs to take into account. The change of unemployment rate as a regional labor market outcome in metropolitan cities is determined by the dynamic interaction between disequilibrium of labor supply and demand and employment mismatch according to various labor market conditions and its process is certainly differentiated across the metropolitan regional labor markets. In addition, it is analyzed that during the employment suburbanization the spatial mismatch puts differentiated impacts on different labor groups through human capital requirements and industry-selective job opportunities. As a result, because this whole process works with its unique process within individual regional labor markets, in order to link between urban poverty and employment mismatch and to promote problem-solving labor market intervention, we need to develop place-based policy based on the placeness of regional labor marekt.

  • After the global financial crisis, doubts have been raised about the usefulness of traditional unemployment rate for the labor market slackness, hence, this study provides alternative indicators that can help estimate the labor market slackness in Korea, and investigates the degree of biasness of traditional indices of Korean labor market. In particular, this study intends to focus on the possibility of employing the labor underutilization index officially announced by Statistics Korea (KOSIS) from 2015. To do this, we first define the labor underutilization indices from 2003 to 2014 by applying current definitions of labor underutilization indices retrospectively to these periods. Based on these indices, the empirical analysis shows that the employment gap using labor underutilization indices is highly correlated with total output gap, and has significantly improved the performance of forecasting inflation rate compared to other labor market slackness indicators.

  • This paper investigates the effects of exchange rate and labor skill composition on Vietnam's trade balance with her twenty main trading partners. Using balanced panel data from 2000 to 2016, the authors analyze Vietnam's total trade balance and the trade balance which is disaggregated based on labor skill sophistication. Three main findings are presented. Firstly, exchange rate has a positive effect on Vietnam's trade balance, but the small value of estimated coefficient indicates that its effect is limited. Secondly, Vietnam's trade balance of the high labor-skill produced and medium-skill white collar labor-produced goods is worsened when VND (Vietnamese Dong) depreciates. Thirdly, moving up the labor skill ladder and promoting the none-price competitiveness of the high labor-skill produced and medium-skilled white collar labor-produced goods can improve Vietnam's total trade balance, while promoting the low-skill labor-produced and medium-skill blue collar-labor produced goods can no longer contribute to Vietnam's total trade balance.

A survey was conducted with 290 nurses who were working hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS window 18.0 program. Result. Findings revealed that; 1) The mean scores were 2.81 [range : 1-5] for work environment, 3.24 [range : 1-5] for emotional labor, 3.43 [range : 1-5] for turnover intention. 2) Pearson's correlation revealed work environment was negatively correlated with turnover intention but emotional labor positively correlated with the turnover intention. 3) Hrarchical multiple regression analysis showed work environment, ages, assign ward, period in current hospital, emotional labor significantly influenced turnover intention in hospital nurses. Conclusion. These findings can be utilized to development of strategies to improving the work environment, managing the emotional labor for decreasing turnover intention of hospital nurses so that can be long time.

  • Labor productivity issues within the construction industry are receiving increasing attention. With the improvement in the standard of living, domestic laborers are avoiding 3D (Difficult, Dirty, and Dangerous) jobs by degrees. Because of this situation, the problem of insufficient labor is exacerbating in several basic industries. In particular, insufficient labor is a serious problem in the construction sector, where the workers are ageing and labor costs are increasing. In this study, we adopt a systematic approach to identify factors that influence labor productivity and analyze the causality between the factors and their ripple effects with the aim that the results of the study will help improve labor productivity and ensure its effective management.

The sub-factors with the greatest effect size in the work task variable were exhaustion and work commitment, while for organization variables, intention to change jobs had the largest effect size. For individual characteristics, physical symptoms had the largest effect size. Conclusion: The results of this study are meaningful as the first study to integrate research results on variables related to the emotional labor of Korean nurses, providing practical data for the management of emotional labor.

The results were as follows. First, the call center employees were actually experiencing emotional labor and it was shown that the deep acting was higher than the surface acting. Second, the degree of experiencing stress coping style and psychological burnout appeared differently depending on the socio-economic variables of the employee. Third, despite the differences in the direction, there is a correlation between emotional labor, stress coping style, and psychological burnout. Fourth, the characteristics of the employees and emotional labor clearly affected stress coping style and psychological burnout. Therefore, companies will have to provide various psychological treatments and training programs for call center employees, and a change in social awareness, where people take the service industry workers' kindness for granted, is required as well.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship of burn out, emotional labor and self-efficacy in nurses, and to identify predictors of burnout. Method: The participants were 268 nurses working in C university hospital in G city. Data were collected from May 1 to May 31, 2010, and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 12.0. Results: The mean score per item for burnout was 3.13, the mean emotional labor score was 3.15, and the mean of self-efficacy score was 3.42. Burnout showed negative correlation with self-efficacy (r=-.339, p=.000), and showed positive correlation with emotional labor (r=.511, p=.000). Variables that predicted burnout were emotional labor, self-efficacy, gender, number of assigned patient per duty (37.8%). Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate a need to develop programs for nurses to increase self-efficacy and to control the emotion, and the need for further studies to examine causal relationship among burn out, emotional labor and self-efficacy.
