Knowledge Transfer Using User-Generated Data within Real-Time Cloud Services

  • When automatic speech recognition (ASR) is provided as a cloud service, it is easy to collect voice and application domain data from users. Harnessing these data will facilitate the provision of more personalized services. In this paper, we demonstrate our transfer learning-based knowledge service that built with the user-generated data collected through our novel system that deliveries personalized ASR service. First, we discuss the motivation, challenges, and prospects of building up such a knowledge-based service-oriented system. Second, we present a Quadruple Transfer Learning (QTL) method that can learn a classification model from a source domain and transfer it to a target domain. Third, we provide an overview architecture of our novel system that collects voice data from mobile users, labels the data via crowdsourcing, utilises these collected user-generated data to train different machine learning models, and delivers the personalised real-time cloud services. Finally, we use the E-Book data collected from our system to train classification models and apply them in the smart TV domain, and the experimental results show that our QTL method is effective in two classification tasks, which confirms that the knowledge transfer provides a value-added service for the upper-layer mobile applications in different domains.

공공기술 이전, 기술적 성과, 연구개발 생산성 간의 구조적 관계 분석 (The Analysis of Structural Relationships among Public Technology Transfer, Technological Performance, and R&D Productivity)

  • This study aims to identify the causal relationship among public technology transfer, technological performance, and research and development (R&D) productivity. Using the impulse-response function(IRF) of a panel vector autoregressive model (panel VAR), this study suggests the results of how long the factors such as technological performance (patent), public technology transfer, and R&D productivity takes and lasts if a one-unit shock of standard deviation occurs. As a result, first, the increase of public technology transfer activities has no power to increase the technology performance but improve the R&D productivity. If the public institute increases its technology transfer activities by one unit, the R&D productivity will increase within five years. Second, the impact of increasing technological performance on improvement of public technology transfer and R&D productivity is an insignificant. Third, the effect of R&D productivity on the public technology transfer creates a substantial reaction after a current time. Considering the structural relationships among public technology transfer, technological performance, and R&D productivity, if policy makers intend to construct the active R&D circumstance, technology suppliers should be motivated to run the active R&D mechanism because they achieve gains.

  • Owing to the current economic downturn, one of the most important goals of the organizations who are actively involved in Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) is the cost efficiency. We focus on supplier firm's domain understanding to make the cost efficiency; therefore, we examine how the disadvantages from lower domain knowledges affect outsourcing performance moderated by outsourcing ratio and knowledge change environments. That is, if clients can endure disadvantage from service providers' lower domain knowledge, they can achieve cost efficiency by choosing lower domain knowledge suppliers with less expensive cost. To examine performance gap depending on the environments, we applied 'A Learning Model of IT Outsourcing' which is suggested by previous literature. As a result, we suggest five strategies for clients to contract with suppliers which have lower domain knowledge: (1) Prepare the strategy to endure disadvantages from the early stage. (2) Make the strategy depending on outsourcing ratio. (3) Knowledge transfer between organizations is important. (4) Make a short-term contract if they do not have good environments for organizational learning. (5) Client's knowledge change environments are more important than those of supplier's. Finally, we offer various implications for clients and suppliers in IT outsourcing.

Does R&D Mediate the Impact of ICT on Productivity through Knowledge Transfer?

  • The information and communication technology (ICT) value creation process is inherently unobservable. In addition to the direct effect of ICT on productivity, some information or knowledge can create value through other knowledge activities. In this paper, we study the impact of ICT on productivity through R&D. We tested the mediating effect of R&D between ICT and productivity using panel data from 47 US industries from 1987 to 2013 from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The results show that R&D partially mediates ICT and productivity. That is, ICT directly increases productivity, and some of its effects can be realized through R&D. Recipients who acquire knowledge through ICT have to interpret codified ideas and apply them to practice. The increased absorptive capacity that can be developed through R&D improves interpretation ability, allowing employees to share more complex ideas. Thus, ICT helps people to effectively communicate, but some information and knowledge can be realized and applied through R&D knowledge activities. This is the first study empirically examining the process of ICT value creation through R&D. It also provides practical guidelines for knowledge management, such as making decisions about ICT and R&D investments that are better done concurrently rather than individually to maximize their impact on productivity.

  • This study is concerned with exploring how much initial trust transfers between the two websites based on their design levels. Internet users tend to perceive trust towards websites when their design factors look persuasive. For example, well-designed websites can arouse more trust in users than poorly-designed websites. Online trust transfer between websites has been studied among several researchers. However, there is no study investigating how much initial trust transfers from well-designed websites to poorly-designed websites or vice versa. In this sense, this study fills this research void by empirically analyzing initial trust transfer between the two websites based on their design levels. Empirical results prove that design levels of websites affect initial trust transfer between websites significantly.

Network, Channel, and Geographical Proximity of Knowledge Transfer: The Case of University-Industry Collaboration in South Korea

  • The relationship between geographical proximity and academics' formal and informal knowledge-transfer activities in the network is analyzed with a mixed research method. With social network analysis as a basis, we have explored the networks between academics and firms in the 16 regions of South Korea. The result shows Seoul and Gyunggi are identified as central nodes, meaning that the academics in other regions tend to collaborate with firms in these regions. An econometric analysis is performed to confirm the localization of knowledge-transfer activities. The intensity of formal channels measured by the number of academic papers is negatively, but significantly associated with the geographical proximity. However, we have not found any significant relationship between the formality of the channels and geographical proximity. Possibly, the regional innovation systems in South Korea are neither big enough nor strong enough to show a localization effect.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose a model of knowledge transfer in IT outsourcing. In this study, structural holes were chosen as antecedent factors, and job performance as a consequence factor. We conducted a survey in which we collected data from 42 respondents working in one of the leading IT companies in Seoul, South Korea. The data were analyzed using UCINET 6 and SmartPLS 2.0. The antecedent factors (structural holes in closeness network and in professional network) turned out to be statistically significant. Knowledge transfer considerably influenced job performance. Lastly, implications and limitations of these findings were discussed, and directions for future research were suggested.

  • 지식정보사회의 출현으로 기업은 지식정보에 대한 중요성을 인식하고 지식을 창출, 이전 및 활용하는 지식경영에 많은 관심을 갖고 있다. 특히 중소기업은 대기업에 비해 자본과 전문인력이 부족하기 때문에 지식경영의 활성화를 통해 변화에 대응하려는 노력이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 중소기업의 관리시스템과 지식경영활동의 관계를 실증분석하며, 그러한 관계에서 조직구조의 조절효과를 살펴보고자 한다. 실증 분석을 위한 자료수집은 강원 영서지역에 입지한 227개 중소기업에 대한 설문의 배부 및 회수를 통해 이루어졌다. 관리시스템이 지식경영에 미치는 효과 및 조직구조로서 분권화와 공식화의 조절효과를 분석한 결과, 최고경영층지원과 교육훈련은 지식획득과 지식이전에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 관리시스템(최고경영층지원, 보상체계, 교육훈련)과 지식경영의 관계에서 분권화와 공식화의 조절효과에 대한 분석결과 분권화는 교육훈련이 지식이전에 미치는 긍정적 효과를 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 공식화는 최고경영층지원과 보상체계가 지식획득에 미치는 긍정적 효과를 감소시키며, 보상체계가 지식이전에 미치는 긍정적 효과도 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 최고경영층지원과 교육훈련이 지식획득과 지식이전에 긍정적 영향을 미친다는 점에서 최고경영층은 구성원들의 제안이나 아이디어 창출을 장려하고, 수평적 의사소통채널을 활성화하여 생성된 지식과 정보가 구성원들에게 폭넓게 전파되도록 하는 것이 필요하다. 그리고 교육훈련을 업무상 아이디어 창출과 관련된 기법을 습득하도록 하며, 교육훈련 이후의 전파교육을 통해 지식생성과 지식이전을 촉진하도록 설계할 필요가 있다. 분권화는 관리시스템이 지식경영활동에 미치는 긍정적 효과를 촉진하는데 반해 공식화는 긍정적 효과를 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 권한위임과 재량권 위양을 통한 분권화를 지향하고, 규정과 절차에 따르기 보다는 조직간소화를 추진함이 바람직하다.

  • Maintaining the permanence of a company in the current rapidly changing business environment is not an easy task. Rather, the lifespan of a company can be said to be gradually decreasing. As such, the author of this paper, which describes the current market environment, is the sales organization of a large company. While leading the company, I thought about how to overcome the rapidly changing market and create an organization that continues to grow. As a result, I succeeded in creating an organization that continued to grow over the past two years, and the main activity of this result was the use of sales computer. It was clear that it was an information sharing activity. This can be said to be a result of proving that a series of activities to create and share information is important for the sales organization of ICT companies to actively respond to the rapidly changing market environment. Therefore, this study attempted to examine the relationship between knowledge management and business performance in the sales field of ICT companies, which has not been covered so far. Knowledge management is a four-stage activity from a process perspective, divided into knowledge creation, knowledge storage, knowledge transfer, and knowledge utilization. did. As a result of the study, first, knowledge management activities, such as knowledge creation and knowledge storage, were found to have a significant impact on financial performance. Second, knowledge management activities such as knowledge creation, knowledge storage, knowledge transfer, and knowledge utilization were all found to have an impact on non-financial performance. In the end, this study confirmed that efforts to turn tacit knowledge into knowledge in order to respond to the ever-changing ICT market are ultimately an important factor in growing a company.

대학과 기업 간의 협력: 기술이전을 중심으로 한 전남대학교의 사례 분석 (The Collaboration between University and Industry: A Case Study of Chonnam National University focusing on the Technology Transfer)

  • 지식경제 하에서 국가 및 지역의 경제발전과 경쟁력을 위해서는 과학기술의 기반을 유지하고 지속적인 연구개발을 통한 혁신이 중요하다. 이런 맥락에서 새로운 지식 및 기술을 창출하고 확산시키는 기관으로서 대학의 역할이 과거 그 어느 때보다 강조되고 있다. 이 연구는 산학협력, 특히 대학과 외부 기관 간의 기술이전 및 지식교환의 양상을 파악하고, 대학의 기술이전이 지역과 지역 소재 기업들의 혁신과 경쟁우위를 확보하는데 얼마나 영향을 미치는지를 설명해 보고자 한다. 전남대학교의 기술이전, 특히 대학의 구성원이 창출한 특허 지식 및 기술의 사업화에 의거하여 살펴본 사례 분석의 결과는 전남대학교가 창출한 지식과 기술의 많은 부분이 대학 소재 지역인 광주 및 전남 지역으로 이전되고 있으며, 따라서 대학의 기술이전이 지역경제에 일정부분 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인할 수 있다.
