익산지역 비만 아동의 식습관, 체형 인식, 체중 조절 행동, 영양 섭취 상태와 혈액성상에 관한 연구 (A Study on Eating Behavior, Recognition of Body Image, Weight Control Method, Nutritional Status, and Blood Parameters of Obese Children in Iksan City)

  • The factors for the childhood onset obesity were assessed to provide informations for the nutrition education program targeting the primary school children. The subjects of this study were 529 primary school children in Iksan City, Jeon-buk Province. Children were classified into obese(236) and control(293) groups by the obesity index. Anthropometric measurement dietary intake through 24-hour recall method, blood analysis and questionnaire response including nutritional knowledge and attitude, body image recognition and eating habits were conducted The mean age of subject was 12.0 years. The average body weight(p<0.001), BMI(p<0.001), and obesity index(p<0.001) in obese group were significantly different from those in control group; their values in the former were 26.5 kg/m2 and $37.7\%$ and 43.0 kg, 19.8 kg/m2 and $3.2\%$ in the latter, respectively. The average scores of self-satisfaction were significantly different in two groups (p<0.001), 31.2, and 34.1, respectively. Among the obese subjects, $60.6\%$ were unsatisfied or very unsatisfied with their body image, and $76.5\%$ had experiences of weight control and $67.5\%$ took diet control as a weight control method Among mothers of obese subjects, $89.1\%$ were unsatisfied with their children's body image. $64.4\%$ of obese subjects had obese parents. Average intake of energy were $76.7\%$ of RDA in obese group and $74.9\%$ of RDA in control group. Average intake of cereals(p<0.01), potatoes & starch(p<0.01) and eggs(p<0.01) between obese and control subjects were significantly different; 295.4g, 76.2g, 55.6g in the former and 277.9g, 38.1g, 45.6g in the latter, respectively. The mean serum triglyceride(p<0.05), GPT(p<0.05), hemoglobin(p<0.001) concentration of the obses and control subjects were significantly different; in the former, 103.6mg/dL, 24.6U/L, 13.4g/dL, and in the latter, 93.7mg/dL, 19.9U/L, 13.1g/dL, respectively, The results suggest that practical nutrition education for the prevention of childhood onset obese should be provided to primary school children.

인문계·실업계 고등학생의 식사에 대한 인식과 영양지식 비교 (Comparison of the Perception of Meals and Nutrition Knowledge in General and Vocational High Schools)

  • 본 연구는 서울지역 인문계와 실업계 고등학교에 재학 중인 남녀 548명을 대상으로 아침식사, 단독식사 및 가족식사에 대한 실태와 영양지식을 비교 조사하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사대상자의 어머니 교육정도는 대부분 고졸과 대졸이었고(p<0.001), 실업계 학생이 인문계 학생보다 어머니의 직장이 있는 경우가 많았다(p<0.01). 가족형태는 부모님과 형제와 함께 살고 있는 학생이 인문계 75.4%, 실업계 73.9%로 조사되었다. 아침식사 횟수의 조사에서 아침식사를 '거의 매일 먹는다'로 응답한 경우 인문계 67.6%, 실업계 45.3%, '먹지 않음'으로 응답한 경우는 인문계 7.0%, 실업계 15.6%로 나타났고(p<0.001), 인문계 학생이 실업계 학생보다 아침식사의 횟수가 많음을 알 수 있었다. 단독식사를 하는 이유로 '내가 바빠서'라고 응답한 경우가 44.0%로 가장 많았고(p<0.001), 단독식사의 주식의 형태로 '밥과 반찬'으로 식사한다는 조사가 53.1%로 나타났다(p<0.05). 단독식사할 때 식사시간의 규칙성에서 '불규칙하다'는 응답(34.9%)에서 실업계 학생이 인문계 학생보다 높게 나타났다(p<0.001). 식사속도는 대체로 빠른 편이었고, 단독식사 할 때 좋지 않은 식습관 중에 가장 문제가 되는 것으로 '불규칙한 식사시간', '편식' 및 '인스턴트식품 섭취'의 순으로 조사되었다(p<0.01). 가족식사의 인식 조사에서 '함께 사는 가족이 모두 모여 식사하는 것이 가족식사'라고 생각한다는 응답(70.6%)이 가장 많았고(p<0.05), 가족식사의 유무는 인문계 학생이 실업계 학생보다 11.8% 더 많이 가족식사를 갖고 있다고 생각하였다(p<0.01). 가족식사의 횟수를 '일주일에 1~2회 한다'는 응답이 173명(31.6%), 가족식사의 좋은 점으로 '가족 분위기가 좋아질 수 있다'는 응답(35.4%)이 가장 많았다(p<0.05). 가족식사를 하는 날로 '주말 또는 공휴일'이 50% 이상으로 우리나라 고등학생들은 평일에는 학교와 학원수업으로 바빠서 상대적으로 온 가족이 시간적 여유가 있는 주말 또는 공휴일에 가족과 함께 식사를 하게 되는 경우가 많음을 보여주었다. 가족식사의 태도, 환경 및 참여도에 대한 동의 정도를 측정한 결과, 가족식사의 태도의 평가에서는 대체적으로 실업계에 비해 인문계가 모두 동의하는 정도가 높게 나타났으며, 가족식사 횟수에 따른 가족식사의 태도, 환경 및 참여도에 대한 동의 정도를 측정한 결과, 가족식사의 태도에 대한 동의 정도는 모든 평가에서 가족식사의 횟수가 많은 집단에서 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 영양지식에 대해 분석한 결과, 열량에 대한 항목에서 가장 높은 점수를 보인 항목은 '체중을 줄이기 위해서는 식사 조절보다 운동이 효과적이다'(인문계 0.65, 실업계 0.61)이었고, 영양소에 관련하여 가장 높은 점수를 보인 항목은 '다양한 영양소를 가진 식사가 좋은 식사이다'(인문계 0.85, 실업계 0.80)이었다. 영양소의 급원식품 및 기타 항목에서 '등푸른 생선은 고도의 불포화지방산이 풍부한 좋은 지방공급원이다'의 항목에서 가장 낮은 점수를 보였다(인문계 0.51, 실업계 0.47). 영양지식 점수 '상', '중' 및 '하'에 따른 가족식사의 태도, 환경 및 참여도에 대한 동의 정도는 영양지식 점수 '상'인 집단에서 가족식사의 동의 정도가 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 이상의 결과에서 대부분의 청소년들은 아침식사를 하는 것으로 조사되었으며, 인문계 학생이 실업계 학생보다 아침식사의 횟수가 많음을 알 수 있었다. 인문계 학생들은 학습 및 학원시간 등으로 본인 바쁜 이유로, 실업계 학생들은 불규칙한 생활습관에 따른 식사시간의 불규칙으로 인해서 단독식사를 하고 있었다. 단독식사 시 좋지 않은 식습관으로 인문계 학생들은 방과 후 자율학습 및 학원수강 등으로 집 밖에서 식사를 많이 하게 되므로 패스트푸드나 인스턴트식품을 자주 먹는다는 것으로 조사되었다. 그리고 인문계 학생들이 실업계 학생들보다 가족식사에 대한 동의 정도가 높게 나타났으며, 대부분 가족식사의 횟수가 많은 집단과 영양지식 점수가 '상'인 집단에서 가족식사에 대한 동의 정도는 높았다. 따라서 인문계와 실업계 청소년들 모두에게 매일 반복되는 식사의 중요성과 온 가족이 모여서 하는 가족식사가 개별적으로 하는 단독식사보다 식사환경에 긍정적인 영향을 준다는 것을 인식시킬 필요가 있으며 지속적인 영양교육을 통해 식생활 개선 노력이 요구된다.

한방간호사(韓方看護師)의 역할(役割)에 대한 연구(硏究) (A STUDY ON KOREA ORIENTAL NURSES' ROLE)

  • The goal of this study is to review and define the role of nurses' who are engaged in Korea Oriental medical treatments in oriental medical hospitals. We think this study can contribute to the development of 'Korea Oriental medical science & nursing science' and 'Public health care'. A large portion of nurses's role in Korea Oriental Medicine(KOM. 한방/한의학) is assistance to doctors treatment. But besides of these role, we think there are many things that are riskless for nurses to do alone. But in present situation, few nurses in KOM. have enough knowledge to treat these medical treatments alone. So we believe this study will provide a way for nurses to participate more actively in KOM. public health care. With the goal of this study, we checked all medical treatments that have been practiced in oriental medical hospitals, and classified these treatments with some groups. And we organized a inquiry. At this inquiry, we ask 'What is the adequate role of nurses in Korea Oriental medical treatment? & What kind of treatment can nurses do?' We got 58 responses from nationwide 121 hospitals. From these response, more than half of them said nurses can do following medical treatment in the oriental medical hospital: 1. starting and ending part of following treatments; External treatments by instrument, by hydrotheraphy, by herb, by suction, moxibustion, Manipulative therapies on soft structure, Living and mind-body therapies. 2. pulling out Acupuncture. 3. boiling herb, judgement on dosing temperature, assisting in dosing, 4. assisting Diet, 5. operating from Living and mind-body therapies. 6. leading Physical training However, these results are coming out from present situation. So, after well-oriented instructions for nurses, this study will be need to carry out again. From this study, we suggest a desirable curriculum for students who study 'Korea Oriental Nursing Science.' That is to say, at basic course students take 4 subject for 6 credits. And at as an expert course, it should be dividend into Clinical Nursing Specialist in KOM., Self-care Nursing Specialist, Regimen Nursing Specialist and take 17 credits per each course.

의안(醫案)을 통한 신종 인플루엔자의 한의학적 대처방안 (A Study on Traditional Korean Medical Countermeasures of Influenza A by Case Histories)

  • Background: The recent outbreak of the novel strain of influenza A (H1N1) virus has raised a global concern of the future risk of pandemic. Traditional Korean Medicine(TKM) has been combatting against contagious diseases and developed its own particular and efficient way in treating those diseases. Objectives: Provide a distinctive and effective TKM method in understanding the principles of treatment, prevention, and contraindications against influenza A through case histories. Method: We revised case histories of eminent doctors of Ming and Qing dynasties according to their clinical manifestations similar to those of influenza A. We also verified prescriptions of the "Dong-uibogam(東醫寶鑑)" through examining clinical practices of China today. Results: 1. The subtypes of Warm disease; Wind Warmth and Pestilence has the most similar clinical manifestation in comparison to Influenza A. Specifying these terms is important in recognizing and classifying various diseases under the name of Warm disease. 2. TKM considered not only external factors but also individual factors like general condition, diet, emotion, constitutional types, etc in the treatment of febrile diseases. 3. TKM developed a new way in the treatment of contagious diseases. considering the characteristics of each pathogen. TKM described the Warm pathogen being light as a feather, which enters through the nose, principally affecting the Lung. Therefore, they emphasized treatment with Pungent Sweet Cooling Moistening[辛甘凉潤] method. 4. As the conservation of fluid and humor is the primordial concern in the treatment of Warm disease, they restricted release of the exterior with pungent-warm and purgation method. The purgation methods was used exclusively to decrease fever and preserve fluid and humor. 5. The only differentiating characteristics of Influenza A with seasonal influenza are vomiting and diarrhea. Case research revealed the possibility of these manifestations to be a mechanism of restoration. 6. TKM provides alimento prevention method like Mint Pear Porridge, mung bean, and etc also combination of herbal medicine. Also emphasized in the conservation of essence for the prevention of contagious diseases. Conclusions: TKM developed its unique way in understanding the pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of contagious diseases and formed its independent scheme of Warm Disease. This knowledge in febrile contagious disease is relevant today in providing diverse treatment and prevention for influenza A.

산업장 교대근무 근로자의 건강증진행위 예측요인 (Predictive Factors of Health promotion behaviors of Industrial Shift Workers)

  • Industrial shift workers feels suffer mental stresses which are caused by unfamiliar day sleep, noisy environment, sleeping disorder by bright light, unusual contacts with family, difficulty in meeting with friends or having formal social meetings and other social limitations such as the use of transportation. Such stresses influence health of the workers negatively. Thus the health promotion policy for shift workers should be made considering the workers' ways of living and shift work specially. This study attempted to provide basic information for development of the health promotion program for industrial shift workers by examining predictive factors influencing health promotion behaviors of those workers. In designing the study, three power generation plants located in Pusan and south Kyungsang province were randomly selected and therefrom 280 workers at central control, boiler and turbine rooms and environmental chemistry parts whose processes require shift works were sampled as subjects of the study. Data were collected two times from September 17 to October 8, 1999 using questionnaires with helps of safety and health managers of the plants. The questionnaires were distributed through mails or direct visits. Means for the study included the measurement tool of health promotion behavior provided by Park(1995), the tool of self-efficacy measurement by Suh(1995), the tool of internal locus of control measurement by Oh(1987), the measurement tool of perceived health state by Park(1995) and the tool of social support measurement by Paek(1995). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS program. Controlling factors of the subjects were evaluated in terms of frequency and percentage ratio Perceived factors and health promotion behaviors of the subjects were done so in terms of mean and standard deviation, and average mark and standard deviation, respectively. Relations between controlling and perceived factors were analyzed using t-test and ANOVA and those between perceived factors and the performance of health promotion behaviors, using Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. The performance of health promotion behaviors was tested using t-test, ANOVA and post multi-comparison (Scheffe test). Predictive factors of health promotion behavior were examined through the Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. Results of the study are summarized as follows. 1. The performance of health promotion behaviors by the subjects was evaluated as having the value of mean, $161.27{\pm}26.73$ points(min.:60, max.:240) and average mark, $2.68{\pm}0.44$ points(min.:1, max.:4). When the performance was analyzed according to related aspects, it showed the highest level in harmonious relation with average mark, $3.15{\pm}.56$ points, followed by hygienic life($3.03{\pm}.55$), self-realization ($2.84{\pm}.55$), emotional support($2.73{\pm}.61$), regular meals($2.71{\pm}.76$), self-control($2.62{\pm}.63$), health diet($2.62{\pm}.56$), rest and sleep($2.60{\pm}.59$), exercise and activity($2.53{\pm}.57$), diet control($2.52{\pm}.56$) and special health management($2.06{\pm}.65$). 2. In relations between perceived factors of the subjects(self-efficacy, internal locus of control, perceived health state) and the performance of health promotion behaviors, the performance was found having significantly pure relations with self-efficacy (r=.524, P=.000), internal locus of control (r=.225, P=.000) and perceived health state(r=.244, P=.000). The higher each evaluated point of the three factors was, the higher the performance was in level. 3. When relations between the controlling factors(demography-based social, health-related, job-related and human relations characteristics) and the performance of health promotion behaviors were analyzed, the performance showed significant differences according to marital status (t=2.09, P= .03), religion(F=3.93, P= .00) and participation in religious activities (F=8.10, P= .00) out of demography-based characteristics, medical examination results (F=7.20, P= .00) and methods of the collection of health knowledge and information(F=3.41, P= .01) and methods of desired health education(F=3.41, P= .01) out of health-related characteristics, detrimental factors perception(F=4.49, P= .01) and job satisfaction(F=8.41, P= .00) out of job-related characteristics and social support(F=14.69, P= .00) out of human relations characteristics. 4. The factor which is a variable predicting best the performance of health promotion behaviors by the subjects was the self-efficacy accounting for 27.4% of the prediction, followed by participation in religious activities, social support, job satisfaction, received health state and internal locus of control in order all of which totally account for 41.0%. In conclusion, the predictive factor which most influence the performance of health promotion behaviors by shift workers was self-efficacy. To promote the sense, therefore, it is necessary to develop the nursing intervention program considering predictive factors as variables identified in this study. Further industrial nurses should play their roles actively to help shift workers increase their capability of self-management of health.

초등학교 저학년 영양교육 학습 자료의 디자인 방향 설정에 관한 연구 (Establishing Design Directions for Nutrition Education Materials for Early Elementary Students in South Korea)

  • 오늘날 아동 비만의 위험성과 영양불균형이 사회적 문제로 떠오르면서 국내에서도 식생활 및 영양정보를 다루는 교육용 콘텐츠·자료 개발이 다양한 형태로 시도되고 있으며 그 중요도가 높아지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 저학년 학생을 대상으로 아동이 학교에서 이루어지는 영양교육과 연계하여 자기 주도적으로 학습하고, 습득한 지식을 실생활에 적용하여 올바르고 균형 있는 식생활을 할 수 있도록 하기 위한 맞춤형 영양교육 학습 자료를 디자인 방향을 설정하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선행연구 및 문헌조사 등을 바탕으로 초등학교 저학년 영양교육에 대한 이론적 고찰을 시행하고, 의료·교육·디자인계 전문가 자문을 통해 저학년 아동을 대상으로 실행될 설문조사를 위한 문항 요소를 도출하여 서울시와 경남 창원시 소재의 초등학교 2곳의 1, 2학년 어린이 110명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 평가 결과, 저학년 아동은 영양교육에 대해 긍정적인 반응을 보였으며, 멀티미디어 기반의 컨텐츠를 활용한 학습 유형과 퀴즈활동을 선호하고, 칼로리 조절 식사에 관하여 학습하고자 하는 의향이 있었다. 학습 자료 디자인 요소에 대해서는 주황, 초록 계열의 색과 고딕류 서체를 선호하였으며, 영양에 대한 정보 표현법으로는 실제의 모습과 흡사한 그림체와 수치측량법 사용에 긍정적인 의견을 나타냈다. 이를 바탕으로 초등학교 저학년인 1,2학년 학생들의 눈높이에 맞춘 자기주도학습 영양교육자료 디자인의 방향성을 설정하였다.

고혈압환자에게 적용한 자가관리프로그램 중재 효과 (Effects of Self Care Program on Hypertensive Control in Hypertensive Patient)

  • 본태성 고혈압 환자를 대상으로 고혈압 자가관리를 증진시키고 생리적 지표인 혈압, 총콜레스테롤치를 감소시키기 위한 자가관리프로그램의 효과를 검증하기 위해 2001년 9월 15일부터 2002년 4월 30일 까지 상주적십자병원에 등록된 본태성 고혈압환자로서 혈압이 140/90mmHg 이상이거나 항고혈압제를 복용 중인 35세이상 75세 미만 남 여 70명을 대상으로 한 유사실험 연구이다. 식습관 변화에서 저염분섭취정도와 고칼슘 칼륨섭취 정도가 1차 사후 검사와 2차 사후 검사시 실험군에서 유의하게 높아졌고, 두 군 간에도 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05, p<0.01). 그러나 동물성 지방섭취정도에는 1차 사후 검사와 2차 사후 검사시 실험군과 대조군 모두 유의한 차이가 없었으며 두 군간에도 유의한 차이가 없었다. 생활습관의 프로그램 중재 효과지수는 흡연이 1차 사후 검사시 0.797, 2차 사후 검사시 0.601, 운동이 1차 사후 검사시 0.600, 2차 사후 검사시 0.849이었다. 그리고 음주정도의 변화는 거의 없었다. 규칙적 항고혈압제 복용의 프로그램 중재 효과지수는 0.715이었다. 생리적 지표 중 수축기 혈압은 실험군과 대조군 모두 1차 사후 검사와 2차 사후 검사시 낮아졌으나 2차 사후 검사시 두 군 간에 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 이완기 혈압은 실험군과 대조군 모두 1차 사후 검사와 2차 사후 검사시 낮아졌으나 (p<0.05), 두 군 간의 유의한 차이는 없었다. 총콜레스테롤치는 실험군이 2차 사후 검사시 낮아졌으나 유의한 차이는 없었고 두 군 간에도 유의 한 차이는 없었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 고혈압자가관리증진프로그램이 식습관과 생활습관의 개선, 그리고 규칙적인 항고혈압제 복용을 포함하는 자가관리를 증진시키고, 수축기 혈압 감소에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였으며 장기적으로는 이완기혈압, 총콜레스테롤치 조절에 영향을 미치는 결과를 가져올 수 있을 것으로 본다.

수도권 지역 직장인의 음식 관련 스마트폰 어플리케이션 이용 실태와 만족도 (Usage and Satisfaction of Food-related Smartphone Applications of Office Workers in Seoul Area)

  • This study was conducted to figure the usage status and satisfaction of food-related smartphone applications by generic characteristics and food purchase attributes of Seoul area workers. The results show that health vitality-oriented group, married compared to single, those with higher eating-out expenses possess more food-related applications (p<0.05). The primary reason for the usage of food-related applications was the need for food-related information (53.7%). The highest application subjects in use were restaurant-related information and recipe information. The real-life aid food-related applications utilized most were also restaurant information (60.7%) and recipe information (28.3%). Health vitality-oriented respondents especially turned out to use nutrition information and food functionality information often (p<0.01), and recipes or calories & diet information usage frequency was higher in women than in men (p<0.001). Restaurant-related information were more frequently used by singles, highly educated, and those with high income and eating-out expenses (p<0.05). Satisfaction of food-related applications was normal (3.06), showing that the satisfactory level is not yet high. Satisfaction regarding purchase attributes showed that the health vitality-oriented group (3.19) was more satisfied compared to other groups (p<0.05), and women (3.16) were more satisfied that men (2.89) were (p<0.05). Inconveniences of food-related applications were highest in usage fee (3.29), simplicity of information (3.28), lack of reliability of information and need for update (3.10). The results of this study implies that various subdivisions of food-related applications users should be implemented; at the same time, food-related applications covering diverse subjects that regard each group's characteristics should be developed in order to utilize food-related knowledge and information as a marketing tool in the food industry; this can efficiently be done by paying attention to the quality of information and updates within applications.

  • 골다공증은 골밀도와 골의 질로 구성되는 골의 강도가 손상됨으로 골절의 위험이 높아지는 골격질환이며, 최근 유병율이 점차 증가하고 있는 추세이다. 임상적으로 무증상인 경우가 많으며 방사선학적 검사인 단순 방사선 검사, 골 스캔, CT, MRI 등이 골밀도 및 골절의 진단에 유용하다. 골밀도의 정량적 검사로는 이중에너지 방사선 흡수법, 정량적 전산화 단층촬영이 사용되고 있다. 골다공증의 진단은 WHO 기준에 따라 T-score가 -2.5 이하일 경우 진단할 수 있다. 그 외에 생화학적 골표지자들도 진단에 도움이 된다. 골다공증 치료제는 골흡수억제제와 골형성자극제(formation stimulator)로 나눌 수 있는데 골흡수억제제로는 칼슘, 에스트로겐, 칼시토닌, 비스포스포네이트(bisphosphonate), 비타민 D 등이 있으며 골량을 증가시키는 골형성자극제로는 현재 부갑상선 호르몬이 유일하며 최근 strontium ranelate가 추가되었다. 일일 1200 mg의 칼슘과 800 IU 의 비타민 D 섭취가 권장되고 있으며, 폐경기 여성에서 에스트로겐이 효과가 입증되었고 골다공증으로 인한 통증에는 칼시토닌이 효과가 있다. 비스포스포네이트는 폐경 후 골다공증의 치료, 예방 및 스테로이드에 의한 골다공증 치료에 대해 FDA의 승인을 받았다. 폐경 후 골다공증의 치료, 예방에 사용되는 SERM은 골의 질을 향상시킴으로써 골절을 예방한다고 알려져 있다. 골형성자극제인 부갑상선 호르몬이 골절의 위험을 감소시킨다고 보고된 바 있으며, strontium은 최근에 개발된 약제로 3상 연구에서 골절 위험율 감소효과를 보였으나 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

직접 대면 방식과 병행한 전화를 이용한 복약상담이 제 2형 당뇨병 환자의 치료성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Follow-up Telephone Calls Combined with Face-to-face Meetings on Clinical and Humanistic Outcomes in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus)

  • There is a lack of evidence on the impact of pharmacist interventions in diabetes care in South Korea. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of pharmacist counseling on clinical and humanistic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. An uncontrolled before-and-after study was conducted at the outpatient diabetes clinic in a teaching hospital in Gyeongnam, South Korea between January 2 and November 30, 2014. A total of 37 patients were enrolled. During the study periods, the participants and pharmacists met every 2 weeks via follow-up telephone calls in addition to face-to-face meetings upon returning for care visit. At each meeting, a structured patient counseling was performed and the average duration of each meeting was 15~30 minutes. The participants were requested to record daily self-care activities. At the end of this study, patients' satisfaction on pharmacist care was evaluated using the questionnaire developed by us. Compared to baseline, significant reductions (mean${\pm}$standard deviation, p<0.05) in HbA1c were observed at each follow-up period: $-0.32{\pm}0.72%$ from baseline to 3 months; $-0.52{\pm}0.76%$ from baseline to 6 months; $-0.72{\pm}0.76%$ from baseline to 9 months. Over the same follow-up period, the proportions of patients achieving target HbA1c (defined as HbA1c<6.5%) were 3.1%, 10.3%, and 20%, respectively. The proportions of patients who never missed a dose during the same follow-up period were 43.8%, 31.0%, and 20.0%, respectively. The results from the patient satisfaction survey indicated that pharmacist counseling improved patients' knowledge about diabetes and possible drug interactions. Especially, the information on a healthy diet and lifestyle was the most satisfying. To conclude, follow-up telephone calls combined with face-to-face meetings improved clinical and humanistic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
