한국 사립 유치원 영어교육의 실태 (A Study on English Education in Private Kindergartens in Korea)

  • This study examines the current state of English education in private kindergartens in Korea. Among 1700 kindergarten teachers surveyed for this research, 680 replied that their institutions provided English lessons for children. Analyses of the data collected from these 680 teachers showed : 1) They started to teach English not because of educational considerations but because of pressure from children's parents or kindergarten principals; 2) Most of the English teachers were part-time instructors specially recruited for English lessons. Generally, English lessons were given two or three times a week, with one session lasting for about 20 minutes. A variety of teaching methods and materials were used for the lessons given to children aged three to five. Focus of the lessons was given to listening and speaking words and sentences; 3) Most of the teachers considered the scarcity of qualified English instructors as the most serious problem for providing English education in kindergartens, and they did not want to teach English themselves. They evaluated positively the performance and role of Korean part-time English instructors. The evaluations were generally poor as to native speakers serving as kindergarten English teachers.

구강 보건 교육이 유치원 아동의 구강 건강에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Oral Health Education on Oral Health in Kindergarten Children)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effects of oral health education on kindergarten children. Method: The study was designed as a quasi-experimental, nonequivalent control group pre -post test design. Data was collected from April 1st to November 30th, 2001. The total samples were sixty seven healthy kindergarten children; the experiment group consisted of thirty three and the control group was thirty four children. The experimental group received an oral health education program daily for 20 minutes for four weeks. Result: There was significant improvements on oral health behavior in the experimental group. Streptococcus mutans and lactobacilli of the salivary variables in the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group. The dmft was lower in the experimental group than the control group, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. However it was significantly lower in the experimental group than control group over time. Conclusion: Oral health education for kindergarten children showed an increase in the use of tooth paste and practicing correct tooth brush usage. Also, it decreased the rate of eating cariogenic food and had a positive effect on oral health through suppressing dental cavities.

A Case Study of Drama Education for Kindergarten Children in the United States: Drama Specialists' Beliefs and Practices

  • This case study examines two drama specialists' perspectives on the purpose of drama education and how their visions and beliefs are reflected in their drama practices during a sixweek kindergarten drama program. Two experienced drama specialists who have worked at public elementary schools located in the Midwestern United States were the main participants of this case study. Using a qualitative case study method, in-depth observations and semistructured interviews were carried out. Findings show that the drama specialists believed the purpose of drama education to be the building of self-confidence, creativity, awareness of the arts and respect for others. Both congruent and inconsistent relations between their beliefs and their teaching practices were observed. Based on these findings, an understanding of how specialists' beliefs and practices contribute to a broader understanding of drama education is further discussed.

유치원 수학 교육에 관한 문제점과 개선책 (The Problem and Solution of Mathematics Education in Kindergarten)

  • 연구는 한국 유치원의 수학 교육의 문제점을 분석하고, 유치원 교육의 문제에 대한 해결 방안을 찾는데 그 목적이 있다. 특히, 유아 수학 교육에서 사용되는 교구에 대한 효과와 보유 현황에 대한 조사에서 현재 유치원 현장에서 근무하는 교사들의 가장 큰 애로점을 알 수 있었다. 교구의 효과가 다른 어느 때보다 절대적으로 영향을 미치는 유아의 시기에 풍부한 교구의 활용은 수학교육 뿐만 아니라 여러 방면에서 필요로 하고 있다. 그러나, 현실적으로 많은 부족함을 느끼며 얼마 안 되는 교구도 교사가 직접 제작해야하는 실정으로 되어 있어 교사들의 어려움을 더해주고 있다.

유아 기본생활습관 교육에 대한 예비유아교사의 인식 (The perception of pre-service kindergarten teacher toward children's fundamental habit education)

  • The study was to see if the perceptions of pre-service kindergarten teacher toward the education of children's fundamental habit would show different characteristics based on their school type, education learning experience, and practicum experience. Subjects were 200 students majoring in early childhood education who were attending 3-year colleges and 4-year universities in Jellabuk-do and Daejeon. Preceding researches were referenced to develop questionnaire for the research method. The collected data was analyzed through t-test and Chi-square test. The followings are results: First, the interest in education showed significant difference in school type, but not significant difference in education learning experience and practicum experience. Second, the recognition in educational goal showed significant difference in practicum experience, but not significant difference in school type and education learning experience. the educational content showed significant difference in education learning experience, but not in school type and practicum experience. the recognition in educational principal showed significant difference in school type, but not significant difference in education learning experience and practicum experience. the recognition in educational method showed no significant difference in school type, education learning experience and practicum experience. Third, the recognition in educational hardship toward teaching showed significant difference in school type, education learning experience and practicum experience. The results of study would provide the righteous cognitive establishment of children's fundamental habit education and serve the appropriate guidelines being professor for our perspective kindergarten teachers. Also, they would be utilized as basic information to plan the direction of children's fundamental habit education to develop the program of children's life guidance.

여성의 유치원.보육시설 및 사교육 선택유형 분석 (Analysis of Women's selection Pattern on Kindergarten/Child Care Centers and Private Tutoring for Young Children)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 여성의 유치원 보육시설 및 사교육 선택 유형을 분석하는데 있다. 이를 위해 여성가족패널자료(KLoWF)중에서, 만2세 이상 만6세 이하의 유아를 두고 있는 여성 1,810명을 대상으로 분석하였다. 유아대상 교육기관은 크게 세 가지(유치원, 보육시설, 사교육)로 구분하고 각각의 기관에 유아를 보내는 여성의 특성에 따른 관련성을 밝히고자 하였다. 자료분석 결과 유아연령이 어릴수록 보육시설만을 이용하는 비율이 높고, 연령이 높을수록 유치원만 이용하는 비율이 높게 나타났다. 유치원 보육시설 및 사교육의 중복선택은, 만6세에서 유치원과 사교육 함께 이용하는 항목이 가장 높게 나타났다. 사교육과 유치원, 보육시설을 병행하는 비율은 연령이 높을수록 증가하나, 사교육을 병행하는 비율이 유치원과 보육시설만 이용하는 비율보다는 낮게 나타났다. 일자리유무와 일자리 유형에 관계없이 모두 보육시설을 이용하는 비율이 높게 나타났다. 연구의 제한점과 추후 연구가 제시되었다.

유치원과 초등학교의 교육과정 연계성 관점에서 본 유치원 교육과정 수준 적합성 연구 - 5세 누리과정과 초등학교 1~2학년군을 중심으로 - (A study on Analysis of Level Relevance for Kindergarten Curriculum in terms of the Kindergarten and Elementary School Curriculum Articulation)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the level relevance of the kindergarten curriculum in terms of the kindergarten and elementary school curriculum articulation. For this purpose, a model was developed to assess the level relevance of the curriculum. Next, the achievement standards of the curriculum were analyzed by using this model. Finally, teachers' guidebooks were analyzed, too. The following results were obtained from the analysis. First, five of the 14 achievement standards are rated as 'relevant', and nine of them were 'irrelevant'. Also, six of the irrelevant achievement standards were rated as 'overlap', two of them were rated as 'retrogression', and one of them was rated as 'gap'. I found a lot of problems with the level relevance in the kindergarten curriculum. As the results to analyze teachers' guidebooks, I found that there were the great frequency difference in the activities of teachers' guidebooks.

유치원의 공간규모계획에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Space size of the Kindergarten)

  • Kindergarten is the first educational experience of toddlers, where they experience living in a group environment. Carefully designed, it is intended to provide an environment for nurturing the systematic growth and development of youngsters. Through effective stimulation, young children display their abilities as they independently learn in the controlled setting of Kindergarten. This study advocates the support of educational activities through the use of systematic and scientific architectural design in order to achieve the challenging goals and results desired of Kindergarten education. Upon determining the current state of Kindergarten architectural design, I have sought to apply innovative architectural concepts which can be used to design desirable learning environment for Kindergarten aged children. In calculation of area, the average gross building area is minimum $2.3m^{2}/p$ and optimum $2.5m^{2}/p$. The area of classroom is optimum $6.8m^{2}/p$.

유치원 교사의 직무 만족도에 영향을 미치는 자아 개념 요인에 관한 연구 (The Influence of Self-concept on Kindergarten Teachers' Job Satisfaction)

  • This study explored the relationship between kindergarten teachers' self-concept and job satisfaction. The subjects were 345 public and private kindergarten teachers. Instruments were 2 questionnaires: The Tools for Measuring kindergarten Teachers' Self-concept, and the Survey of Kindergarten Teacher Job Satisfaction. Results showed that kindergarten teachers' self-concept was positively correlated with job satisfaction. The most important sub-factor influencing job satisfaction was self-concept regarding professional and social position. These results imply that teacher education program or organizational climate improving teachers' positive self-concept would be needed.

유·초 연계교육에 대한 교사와 학부모의 신념, 지식 및 실제 간의 차이 (Educational Articulation Between Kindergarten and Primary School : Perceptions of Teachers and Mothers)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate whether there are any differences among kindergarten teachers', primary school teachers', and children's mothers's perceptions-belief, knowledge, practice-about the educational articulation between kindergarten and primary school. The results of this study were as follows; First, there were differences among kindergarten teachers, primary school teachers, and mothers about the belief of articulation content. Second, in the knowledge of educational articulation, kindergarten teachers's understandings of the counterpart's curriculum were higher than that of primary school teachers's. Third, in the practice of educational articulation, kindergarten teachers and mothers were focused language and mathematics learning for educational articulation. But primary school teachers were focused school adjustment.
