  • The innovative designer and structural engineer, Cecil Balmond is co-representative of Ove Arup and has been co-worked with world-famous architects and has been influenced so much on architectural thinking. These days he extended his career as an architect. Moreover, he has been noticed through a few publishing by his own architectural thinking. He is describing the World with his unique insight based on structural perspectives, which have much common grounds with that of Deulezian philosophy. It is especially valuable to study the relationship between his thinking of Interior-Exterior Ring and Deleuzian thinking of Virtual Circulation for understanding more clearly about structural and compositional principle how world is composed of. The Ring is circulationg from interior to exterior which is similar with Deleuzian concept that the Smooth and the Striated is circulationg mutually. Seamless flight line would be ceaseless creative virtual process to actuality.

  • In the new futre, computer system designers are expeted to bring more computer power to more people than is currently feasible. At the same time. it is reasonable for the computer system desigers to expect the computer architects to prodce hardware structures incorporating system algorithms of greated complexity so that more of the general instructions go to serving the users. In the past, the architect has delivered more computing to the user by constructing bigger and faster central processors, possibly connecting two or three CPUs together This approach has its limitations, in cost, complexity and reliability. In this paper, we first briefly discuss the hardware environment on which Hydra was implemented, then discuss the philosophy on which the system is based, and finally exhibit the protection mechanism.

  • Youlgok's thoughts on mind are represented both in his one-road theory of mind, nature, emotion and will and in his one-way theory of Li riding on a dynamic Ki. The one-road theory has two meanings. First, it means that mind, nature, emotion and will are not separate things, but those three things other than mind belong to mind, which only different phases of mind. Second, it means that human desire and moral will, inborn nature and dispositional nature, four clues and seven emotions are not sets of mind opposing each other forever, but sets of mind which can be sublated in the end. The one-way theory of Li riding on a dynamic Ki explains the relation of mind and nature in terms of Li and Ki. In Youlgok's theory, Ki(mind) is the subject of operating dynamics and Li(nature) is the content of operated results. Nature appeared through operating mind is emotion. Li riding on a dynamic Ki means both that Li superintends Ki(operates Ki's standard), and that it realizes itself through Ki. In a word, mind is the subject realizing nature, and mind operates under the control of nature. In this way, Youlgok pays attention on both Li's norm and Ki's dynamic.

  • This paper has two goals: first, I will analyze the current research trend of studying the Nosa School, which is composed of Ki Jeongjin(1798~1879) and his students and then, provide with some tasks we have to solve. The Nosa Studies, which I suggest here, means the one that the scholarship and thought of Ki Jeongjin, one of the six masters and the representatives of neo- Confucianism in late Choson Korea, and all kinds of academic achievements, which had been succeeded and established by his students. Their diverse activities as well as scholarship play crucial roles in both modern Korean Confucianism and Dao Studies in late Choson Korea. Ki's core thought is a conclusion of various issues, which had been raised since Korean Confucianism of Toegye and Yukgok. Their diverse activities kicked into high gear after Ki's death can be understood as one of remarkable cases, which was how to be transformed by encounters with realities in modern Korea. Especially, some controversies and responses to practical issues that linked with their philosophical values of the Nosa Studies in Kiho school in early twentieth century will be a criterion to shed light on the identity of Korean Confucianism today. Thus, I will summarize the content of researches on the Nosa Studies, which begins to appear in the early-mid twentieth century, through an overview of the Nosa Studies, examine research results by dividing part by part, and provide with some prospects and tasks, which are based on what I mention above.

  • Core safety limits define reactor operating conditions and parameters that will assure fuel rod and reactor system's integrity. Limiting safety system settings (LSSS) programmed into reactor protection system (RPS) then ensure a rapid reactor trip to prevent or suppress conditions which might violate the core safety limits. Generation of the LSSS must properly take into account uncertainties in both calculated and measured parameters in order to assure, with an appropriate degree of confidence, that the RPS will protect the core safety limits. Reviewed in this report are Westinghouse RPS setpoint generation philosophy, methodology of safety limit development and LSSS generation procedure. The Westinghouse RPS trip setpoint generation methodology has been established based on the calculation of core safety limits and the selection of LSSS allowing appropriate uncertainties in a conservative manner. Such conservative values of setpoint assure a high degree of core protection against fuel melting and occurrence of DNB.

  • Medical treatments as universal care have been turning into delivering medical technology. Coping with death, which is prevalent in all medical circumstances, without comprehensive understanding results in missing out on significant aspects between life and death. This makes doctors surrender easily to a conventional and binary division of life and death and reduces the chance of including death as a part of the medical realm. Furthermore, in terms of medical education, we need to have the opportunity to consider such subjects that can benefit from special planning and consideration. Through reviewing articles in a variety of disciplines such as medicine, philosophy, psychology, literature, and anthropology, we can better understand death, condolences, and the relevance between them in a contextual way. In order to seek a better approach, this study also aims to survey and review the recent state of death education in diverse fields of medicine in Korea. In conclusion, if it is complicated for us to explain or understand death in general, focusing on condolences as a human response to death could be one meaningful way that deserves contemplation. It is possible to regard condolences as a touchstone and a prerequisite in death education itself.

  • Traditional Korean Medicine and Taoism think of the importance of a life nurturing for one's health and longevity. However, for a life nurturing, Traditional Korean Medicine aims at a person living up to one's natural life span. Taoism lays importance on ascending up to the sky to be a Taoist hermit with supernatural powers. Therefore, they both differ in the pursuit of their goals and their methods in doing respectively. In this study we have shown similarities and differences in the meaning and ways to practice su-seung-hwa-gang (body water rising and heat falling) which Traditional Korean Medicine and Taoism regard highly as a means of the practice of a life nurturing. Su-seung-hwa-gang is a concept that both Traditional Korean Medicine and Taoism set a high value on and at the same time it is a concrete method of a life nurturing demonstrating the possibility of 'non-disease treatment' through the active efforts of Traditional Korean Medicine.
