Secure broadcasting is requirement for payment of TV systems, government or company. Hierarchical key management for access control provides efficient key management in those environment. Also, time-bound hierarchical key management technique generates different keys in each time period. In 2004, Tzeng proposed a time-bound cryptgraphic key assignment scheme for access control in a hierarchy and in 2008, Bertino et al proposed an efficient time-bound hierarchical key management scheme for secure broadcasting. Tzeng's scheme and Bertino et al's scheme are organized in different environment and primitive. In this paper, we analysis above two time-bound hierarchical key management scheme.

Security is one of the major challenges in the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). WSNs are more vulnerable to adversarial activities. All cryptographic security services indirectly depend on key management. Symmetric key management is the best key establishment process for WSNs due to the resource constraints of the sensors. In this paper, we proposed dynamic session key establishment scheme based on randomly generated nonce value and sensor node identity, in which each sensor node is equipped with session key on expire basis. The proposed scheme is compare with five popular existing key management systems. Our scheme is simulated in OMNET++ with MixiM and presented experimental results. The analytical study and experimental results show the superiority of the proposed scheme over the existing schemes in terms of energy, storage, resilience and communication overhead.
In this paper, we propose a key management scheme which can provide delivery of the key used to encrypt a digital content from the package server to digital rights management (DRM) clients in a secure manner. The proposed scheme can protect digital content from attacks since an encrypted digital content is sent by a package server and only DRM clients can decrypt the encrypted digital content. It protects the key not only from purchasers but also among the other principals who manage the distribution and license servers.
The widespread use of cryptographic technologies is complicated by inconsistencies and duplication in the key management systems supporting their applications. The proliferation of key management systems or protocols also results in higher operational and infrastructure costs, and fails in interoperability. Thus, it is essential to realize key management interoperability between different and heterogeneous cryptosystems. This paper presents a practical and separable key management system for heterogeneous public-key cryptosystems. We achieve the interoperability between different cryptosystems via cryptography approaches rather than communication protocols. With our scheme, each client can freely use any kind of cryptosystemthat it likes. The proposed scheme has two advantages over the key management interoperability protocol introduced by the organization for the advancement of structured information standards. One is that all the related operations do not involve the communication protocol and thus no special restrictions are taken on the client devices. The other is that the proposed scheme does not suffer from single-point fault and bottleneck problems.

Security supports are a significant factor in mobile ad hoc networks. Especially in dynamic topologies, considering cluster, key management is essential to provide a secure system. Recently, Li-Liu proposed iD-based multiple key management scheme for cluster-based ad hoc networks. However, we found the security weakness of their scheme. In this paper, we analyze the security of Li-Liu's scheme and show that master secret key and fragment of the master secret key can be revealed to compromised CHs and nodes. Furthermore, we propose a solution to improve the scheme against disclosure of the share key and the master secret key even though system parameters are opened to compromised nodes and modify the Li-Liu's scheme fitted for a scalable networks. The improved IMKM scheme could be usefully applied in dynamic cluster-based MANETs such as the military battlefields, mobile marketplace and VANETs.
A major challenge achieving scalable access control for a large number of subscribers in a public broadcast is to distribute key update messages reliably to all stateless receivers. However, in a public broadcast, the rekeying messages can be dropped or compromised during transmission over an insecure broadcast channel, or transmitted to receivers while they were off-line. In this study, we propose a novel group key management scheme. It features a mechanism to allow legitimate receivers to recover the current group key, even if they lose key update messages for long-term sessions. The scheme uses short hint messages and member computation. Performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme has the advantages of scalability and efficient rekeying compared to previous reliable group key distribution schemes. The proposed key management scheme targets a conditional access system in a media broadcast in which there is no feedback channel from receivers to the broadcasting station.

In 2014, Wuu et al. proposed a group key management scheme based on (2,2) secret sharing. They asserted that their scheme satisfies security requirements and mutual authentication. But this paper pointed out that their scheme does not satisfy mutual authentication and impersonating attack. In this paper, we describe the reasons and processes that a malicious group member can impersonate the Group Key Distributor. To fill the gaps, we discuss the problems, and propose an improved protocol.

Process Control Systems (PCSs) or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems have recently been added to the already wide collection of wireless sensor networks applications. The PCS/SCADA environment is somewhat more amenable to the use of heavy cryptographic mechanisms such as public key cryptography than other sensor application environments. The sensor nodes in the environment, however, are still open to devastating attacks such as node capture, which makes designing a secure key management challenging. In this paper, a key management scheme is proposed to defeat node capture attack by offering both forward and backward secrecies. Our scheme overcomes the pitfalls which Nilsson et al.'s scheme suffers from, and is not more expensive than their scheme.

To ensure the security of wireless sensor networks, it is important to have a robust key management scheme. In this paper, we propose a Quorum-based key management scheme. A specific sensor, called as key distribution server (KDS), generates a key matrix and establishes a quorum system from the key matrix. The quorum system is a set system of subsets that the intersection of any two subsets is non-empty. In our scheme, each sensor is assigned a subset of the quorum system as its pre-distributed keys. Whenever any two sensors need a shared key, they exchange their IDs, and then each sensor by itself finds a common key from its assigned subset. A shared key is then generated by the two sensors individually based on the common key. By our scheme, no key is needed to be refreshed as a sensor leaves the network. Upon a sensor joining the network, the KDS broadcasts a message containing the joining sensor ID. After receiving the broadcast message, each sensor updates the key which is in common with the new joining one. Only XOR and hash operations are required to be executed during key update process, and each sensor needs to update one key only. Furthermore, if multiple sensors would like to have a secure group communication, the KDS broadcasts a message containing the partial information of a group key, and then each sensor in the group by itself is able to restore the group key by using the secret sharing technique without cooperating with other sensors in the group.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), energy efficiency is one of the most essential design considerations, since sensor nodes are resource constrained. Group communication can reduce WSNs communication overhead by sending a message to multiple nodes in one packet. In this paper, in order to simultaneously resolve the transmission security and scalability in WSNs group communications, we propose a hierarchical cluster-based secure and scalable group key management scheme, called HRKT, based on logic key tree and route key tree structure. The HRKT scheme divides the group key into cluster head key and cluster key. The cluster head generates a route key tree according to the route topology of the cluster. This hierarchical key structure facilitates local secure communications taking advantage of the fact that the nodes at a contiguous place usually communicate with each other more frequently. In HRKT scheme, the key updates are confined in a cluster, so the cost of the key updates is reduced efficiently, especially in the case of massive membership changes. The security analysis shows that the HRKT scheme meets the requirements of group communication. In addition, performance simulation results also demonstrate its efficiency in terms of low storage and flexibility when membership changes massively.
