Being believed thus far to be distributed in the wide areas in the vicinity of Seoul, the capital city of Korea, the Yonchon System in its type locality in Yonchon-gun from which the name derived was never previously traced down or correlated to the Precambrian metamorphic complex in Seoul area where the present study was carried out. Due to in accessibility to Yonchon area, the writer also could not trace the system down to the area studied so as to correlate them. The present study endeavored to differentiate general stratigraphy and interprete the structure of the metamorphic complex in the area. In spite of the complexity of structure and rapid changes in lithofacies of the complex, it was succeeded to find out the key bed by which the stratigraphy and structure of the area could be straightened out. The keybeds were the Buchon limestone bed in the western parts of the area; Daisongri quartzite bed cropped out in the southeastern area; Jangrak quartzite bed scattered in the several localities in the northwest, southwest, and eastern parts of the area; and Earn quartzite bed isolated in the eastern part of the area. These keybeds together with the broad regional structure made it possible to differentiated the Precambrian rocks in ascending order into the Kyonggi metamorphic complex, Jangrak group and Chunsung group which are in clinounconformable relation, and the first complex were again separated in ascending order into Buchon, Sihung, and Yangpyong metermorphic groups. Althcugh it has being vaguely called as the Yonchon system thus far, the Kyonggi metamorphic complex have never been studied before. The complex might, however, belong to early to early-middle Precambrian age. The Jangrak and Chunsung group were correlated to the Sangwon system in North Korea by the writer (1972), but it became apparent that the rocks of the groups have different lithology and highly metamorphosd than those of the Sangwon system which has thick sequence of limestone and slightly metamorphosed. Being deposited in the margin of the basin, it is natural that the groups poccess terrestrial sediments rather than limestone, yet no explanation is at hand as to what was the cause of bringing such difference in grade of metamorphism. Thus the writer attempted to correlate the both groups to those of pre-Sangwon and post-Yonchon which might be middle to early-late Precambrian time. Judging from difference in grade of deformation and unconformity between the Kyonggi metamorphic complex, Jangrak group, and Chunsung group, three stages of orogeny were established: the Kyonggi, Jangrak orogenies, and Chunsung disturbance toward younger age. It is rather astonishing to point out that the structure of these Precambrian formations. was not effected by Daebo orogeny of Jurassic age. The post-tectonic block faulting was accompanied by these orogenies, and in consequence NNE and N-S trending faults were originated. These faulting were intermittented and repeated until Daebo orogeny at which granites intruded along these faults. The manifestation of alignment of these faults is indicated by the parallel and straight linear development of valleys and streams in the Kyonggi Massifland.

Most of the conventional breakwaters impermeable breakwaters which block seawater exchange between the outside and inside of the harbors. The blocking of seawater exchange may cause pollution of water in harbors. To solve the water pollution problem, various kinds of seawater exchange breakwaters have been proposed. Their types can be classified into the current type which uses tidal current, and the overtopping type which uses the wave energy. The overtopping type breakwaters require a discharge coefficient to calculate the rate of overtopping into the harbor. The present study is to compute the rate of overtopping with introduction of a correct discharge coefficient and to evaluate the effect of the overtopping type breakwater on the water qualify inside a harbor. The rate of overtopping was computed by using Forchheimer formula with time dependent mild-slope equation for various wave conditions. The formula has been generally used to calculate the overflow discharge in steady state river flows. The discharge coefficient, which is the key parameter of the calculation, was determined by a series of hydraulic model tests. The present scheme was applied to the seawater exchange section of the western breakwater of Jeju New Harbor's and the efficiency of that section was examined. The calculated results showed that the rate of overtopping into the harbor reached about $27.5m^3/s$ in the wave condition (wave height 3.7 m, wave period 8.5s, and wave direction NNW).
Endoscopic transthoracic sympathectomy (ETS) has recently become estabilished as a successful treatment for severe palmar and axillary hyperhidrosis. Descriptions have been published of neurolytic, operative and alternative endoscopic procedures involving thermocoagulation, laser coagulation, or or nonvideo-assisted ganglionectomy using equipment not widely available, with low morbidity and excellent results. All methods have advantage and disadvantages. A 19-year-old male who suffered from severe hyperhidrosis on face, palms and axillary areas, has been initially treated with stellate ganglion block in other pain clinic. He was transfered to our pain clinic for endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. The patient was intubated left side 34 Fr. double lumen tube and positioned left semi-lateral position for right sympathectomy. Right side pneumothorax was created by clamping the ipsilateral side of the double lumen tube and aspiration of air. 11-mm trocar was introduced through incision at the third intercostal space in anterior axillary line, and then additional two 11-mm and 5-mm trocar was introduced through second and fifth intercostal space in mid axillary line. The lung was gently retracted and the parietal pleura over the heads of the appropriate ribs excised using 5-mm sharp insulated coagulating microprocesss. The T4, T3, and T2 ganglions, as well as accompanying rami communicantes, and other branchs arising from upper thoracic nerves to the brachial plexus and surrounding tissues were carefully dissected, coagulated. During sympathectomy, skin temperature of middle was continuously monitored. Elevation of palmar skin temperature intraoperatively indicated an adequate sympathectomy with a definite therapeutic effect. A No. 28 Fr. thoracotomy tube was introduced through a troca under video guidance, placed under water seal after the lung was reinflated. the controlateral side was performed same procedure. After bilateral sympathectomy, chest tubes were removed, and then, he was discharged 2 days after operation with great satisfaction. The ETS provides a well-tolerated, cost-effective alternative to thoracic sympathectomy for primary hyperhidrosis and sympathetic mediated neuropathic pain disorder. And T2 ganglion is considered the key ganglion for the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis. The low incidence of compensatory sweating may by explained by the limited extent of the sympathectomy.
Continual monitoring of abnormal operating conditions i a key issue in maintaining high product quality and safe operation, since the undetected process abnormality may lead to the undesirable operations, finally producing low quality products, or breakdown of equipment. The statistical projection method recently highlighted has the advantage of easily building reference model with the historical measurement data in the statistically in-control state and not requiring any detailed mathematical model or knowledge-base of process. As the complexity of process increases, however, we have more measurement variables and recycle streams. This situation may not only result in the frequent occurrence of process Perturbation, but make it difficult to pinpoint trouble-making causes or at most assignable source unit due to the confusing candidates. Consequently, an ad hoc skill to monitor and diagnose in plat-wide scale is needed. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical plant-wide monitoring methodology based on hierarchical decomposition and principal component analysis for handling the complexity and interactions among process units. This have the effect of preventing special events in a specific sub-block from propagating to other sub-blocks or at least delaying the transfer of undesired state, and so make it possible to quickly detect and diagnose the process malfunctions. To prove the performance of the proposed methodology, we simulate the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process which is operated continuously with 41 measurement variables of five major units. Simulation results have shown that the proposed methodology offers a fast and reliable monitoring and diagnosis for a large scale chemical plant.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose an Integrated Safety Evaluation Process (ISEP) that can enhances the safety aspect of the safety-critical system. This process utilizes the advantages of the iterative Systems Engineering process combined with the safety assessment process that is commonly and well defined in many standards and/or guidelines for railway, aerospace, and other safety-critical systems. Methods: The proposed process model is based on the predefined system lifecycle, in each phase of which the appropriate safety assessment activities and the safety data are identified. The interfaces between Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process are identified before the two processes are integrated. For the integration, the elements at lower level of Systems Engineering process are combined with the relevant elements of safety assessment process. This combined process model is represented as Enhanced Functional Flow Block Diagram (EFFBD) by using CORE(R) that is commercial modelling tool. Results: The proposed model is applied to the lifecycle and management process of the United States aircraft system. The US aircraft systems engineering process are composed of twelve key elements, among which the requirements management, functional analysis, and Synthesis processes are considered for examplenary application of the proposed process. To synchronize the Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process, the Systems Engineering milestones are utilized, where the US aircraft system has thirteen milestones. Taking into account of the nine steps in the maturity level, the integrated process models are proposed in some phases of lifecycle. The flows of processes are simulated using CORE(R), confirming the flows are timelined without any conflict between the Systems Engineering process and the safety assessment process. Conclusion: ISEP allows the timeline analysis for identifying activity and data flows. Also, the use of CORE(R) is shown to be effective in the management and change of process data, which helps for the ISEP to apply for the development of safety critical system. In this study, only the first few phases of lifecyle are considered, however, the implementation through operation phases can be revised by combining the elements of safety activities regarding those phases.

The international EARTHSHINE mission is to measure 1% anomaly of the Earth global albedo and total solar irradiance using Amon-Ra instrument around Lagrange point 1. We developed a new ray truing based integrated end-to-end simulation tool that overcomes the shortcomings of the existing end-to-end performance simulation techniques. We then studied the in-orbit radiometric performance of the breadboard Anon-Ra visible channel optical system. The TSI variation and the Earth albedo anomaly, reported elsewhere, were used as the key input variables in the simulation. The output flux at the instrument focal plane confirms that the integrated ray tracing based end-to-end science simulation delivers the correct level of incident power to the Amon-Ra instrument well within the required measurement error budget of better than ${\pm}0.28%$. Using the global angular distribution model (ADM), the incident flux is then used to estimate the Earth global albedo and the TSI variation, confirming the validity of the primary science cases at the L1 halo orbit. These results imply that the integrated end-to-end ray tracing technique, reported here, can serve as an effective and powerful building block of the on-line science analysis tool in support of the international EARTHSHINE mission currently being developed.

We carried out a series of experiment demonstrating the role of mitochondria in the cytosolic and mitochondrial $Ca^{2+}$ transients and compared the results with those from computer simulation. In rat ventricular myocytes, increasing the rate of stimulation (1~3 Hz) made both the diastolic and systolic [$Ca^{2+}]$ bigger in mitochondria as well as in cytosol. As L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel has key influence on the amplitude of $Ca^{2+}$ -induced $Ca^{2+}$ release, the relation between stimulus frequency and the amplitude of $Ca^{2+}$ transients was examined under the low density (1/10 of control) of L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel in model simulation, where the relation was reversed. In experiment, block of $Ca^{2+}$ uniporter on mitochondrial inner membrane significantly reduced the amplitude of mitochondrial $Ca^{2+}$ transients, while it failed to affect the cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ transients. In computer simulation, the amplitude of cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ transients was not affected by removal of $Ca^{2+}$ uniporter. The application of carbonyl cyanide 4-(trifluoromethoxy) phenylhydrazone (FCCP) known as a protonophore on mitochondrial membrane to rat ventricular myocytes gradually increased the diastolic [$Ca^{2+}$] in cytosol and eventually abolished the $Ca^{2+}$ transients, which was similarly reproduced in computer simulation. The model study suggests that the relative contribution of L-type $Ca^{2+}$ channel to total transsarcolemmal $Ca^{2+}$ flux could determine whether the cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ transients become bigger or smaller with higher stimulus frequency. The present study also suggests that cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ affects mitochondrial $Ca^{2+}$ in a beat-to-beat manner, however, removal of $Ca^{2+}$ influx mechanism into mitochondria does not affect the amplitude of cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$ transients.
There have been many researches on the 3D graphic accelerator for high speed by needs of CAD/CAM,3D modeling, virtual reality or medical image. In this paper, an SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator is proposed in order to improve the processing time of the 3D graphics, and a parallel Phong shading algorithm is presented to estimate performance of the proposed architecture. The proposed SIMD processor architecture for 3D graphic accelerator consists of PCI local bus interface, 16 Processing Elements (PE's), and Park's multi-access memory system (NAMS) that has 17 memory modules. A serial algorithm for Phong shading is modified for the architecture and the main key is to divide a polygon into $4\times{4}$ squares. And, for processing a square, 4 PE's are regarded as a PE Grou logically. Since MAMS can support block access type with interval 1, it is possible that 4 PE Groups process a square at a time. In consequence, 16 pixels are processed simultaneously. The proposed SIMD processor architecture is simulated by CADENCE Verilog-XL that is a package for the hardware simulation. With the same simulated results as that of the serial algorithm, the speed enhancement by the parallel algorithm to the serial one is 5.68.

The p53 gene plays a critical role in the transcriptional regulation of cellular response to stress, DNA damage, hypoxia, and tumor development. Keeping in mind the recently discovered manifold physiological functions of p53, its involvement in the regulation of cancer is not surprising. In about 50% of all human cancers, inactivation of p53's protein function occurs either through mutations in the gene itself or defects in the mechanisms that activate it. This disorder plays a crucial role in tumor evolution by allowing the evasion of a p53-dependent response. Many recent studies have focused on directly targeting p53 mutants by identifying selective, small molecular compounds to deplete them or to restore their tumor-suppressive function. These small molecules should effectively regulate various interactions while maintaining good drug-like properties. Among them, the discovery of the key p53-negative regulator, MDM2, has led to the design of new small molecule inhibitors that block the interaction between p53 and MDM2. Some of these small molecule compounds have now moved from proof-of-concept studies into clinical trials, with prospects for further, more personalized anti-carcinogenic medicines. Here, we review the structural and functional consequences of wild type and mutant p53 as well as the development of therapeutic agents that directly target this gene, and compounds that inhibit the interaction between it and MDM2.

With recent advancement of high-speed, multi-gigabit data transmission capabilities, serial links have been more widely adopted in industry than parallel links. Since the parallel link design forces its transmitter to transmit both the data and the clock to the receiver at the same time, it leads to hardware's intricacy during high-speed data transmission, large power consumption, and high cost. Meanwhile, the serial links allows the transmitter to transmit data only with no synchronized clock information. For the purpose, clock and data recovery circuit becomes a very crucial key block. In this paper, a 5.4Gbps half-rate bang-bang CDR is designed for the applications of high-speed graphic DRAM interface. The CDR consists of a half-rate bang-bang phase detector, a current-mirror charge-pump, a 2nd-order loop filter, and a 4-stage differential ring-type VCO. The PD automatically retimes and demultiplexes the data, generating two 2.7Gb/s sequences. The proposed circuit is realized in 66㎚ CMOS process. With input pseudo-random bit sequences (PRBS) of $2^{13}-1$, the post-layout simulations show 10psRMS clock jitter and $40ps_{p-p}$ retimed data jitter characteristics, and also the power dissipation of 80mW from a single 1.8V supply.
