For precise tracking control of a servo system with nonlinear friction, a robust friction compensation scheme is presented in this paper. The nonlinear friction is difficult to identify the friction parameters exactly through experiments. Friction parameters can be also varied according to contact conditions such as the variation of temperature and lubrication. Thus, in order to overcome these problems and obtain the desired position tracking performance, a robust adaptive back-stepping control scheme with a dual friction observer is developed. In addition, to estimate lumped friction uncertainty due to modeling errors, a DEKF recurrent neural network and adaptive reconstructed error estimator are also developed. The feasibility of the proposed control scheme is verified through the experiment fur a ball-screw system.

Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) are widely used as the main navigation device for aircraft. To get the initial attitude, the INS requires the initial alignment before navigation starts. An aircraft also needs an engine test procedure that causes some vibrations before flight. An INS can't be aligned in a vibration environment so the initial alignment is performed before the aircraft engine test. Therefore, the initial alignment time of an INS has been a major factor in limiting an aircraft's takeoff response time. In this paper, we designed an initial alignment algorithm that can be executed even in disturbances such as aircraft run-up. We demonstrated verification of the algorithm that is embedded on the real INS and testing methods to evaluate the alignment of the INS. We also analyzed the test results of the proposed initial alignment algorithm that is performed during a real aircraft run-up.

In this paper, we have developed an automatic velocity control system of a small-sized commercial treadmill (belt length of 1.2 m and width of 0.5 m) which is widely used at home and health centers. The control objective is to automatically adjust the treadmill velocity so that the subject's position is maintained within the track when the subject walks at a variable velocity. The subject's position with respect to a reference point is measured by a low-cost sonar sensor located on the back of the subject. Based on an encoder sensor measurement at the treadmill motor, a state feedback control algorithm with Kalman filter was implemented to determine the velocity of the treadmill. In order to reduce the unnatural inertia force felt by the subject, a predefined acceleration limit was applied, which generated smooth velocity trajectories. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in providing successful velocity changes in response to variable velocity walking without causing significant inertia force to the subject. In the pilot study with three subjects, users could change their walking velocity easily and naturally with small deviations during slow, medium, and fast walking. The proposed automatic velocity control algorithm can potentially be applied to any locomotion interface in an economical way without having to use sophisticated and expensive sensors and larger treadmills.

Lumber spine range of motion has been used to measure of physical and functional impairment by various tools from a ruler to 3D kinematic devices. However, pre-existing tools have problems in either movement or accuracy and reliability limitations. Accurate devices are limited by fixed space whereas simple devices are limited in measuring complex movements with less accuracy. In order to solve the location, movement and accuracy limitations at once, we have developed a novice measurement device equipped with accelerometer sensor and gyroscope sensor for getting three-dimensional information of motion. Furthermore, Kalman filter was applied to the algorithm to improve accuracy. In addition, RF wireless communication was added for the user to conveniently check measured data in real time. Finally, the measurement method was improved by considering the movement by a reference point. An experiment was conducted to test the accuracy and reliability of the device by conducting a test-retest reliability test. Further modification will be conducted to used the device in various joints range of motion in clinical settings in the future.

This paper presents a sensor fusion-based estimation of heading and a Bezier curve-based motion planning for unmanned ground vehicle. For the vehicle to drive itself autonomously and safely, it should estimate its pose with sufficient accuracy in reasonable processing time. The vehicle should also have a path planning algorithm that enables to adapt to various situations on the road, especially at intersections. First, we address a sensor fusion-based estimation of the heading of the vehicle. Based on extended Kalman filter, the algorithm estimates the heading using the GPS, IMU, and wheel encoders considering the reliability of each sensor measurement. Then, we propose a Bezier curve-based path planner that creates several number of path candidates which are described as Bezier curves with adaptive control points, and selects the best path among them that has the maximum probability of passing through waypoints or arriving at target points. Experiments under various outdoor conditions including at intersections, verify the reliability of our algorithm.
In this paper, a method for estimating the location of a quadcopter is proposed by applying an EKF-SLAM algorithm to its flight control, to autonomously control the flight of an unmanned quadcopter. The usefulness of this method is validated through simulations. For autonomously flying the unmanned quadcopter, an algorithm is required to estimate its accurate location, and various approaches exist for this. Among them, SLAM, which has seldom been applied to the quadcopter flight control, was applied in this study to simulate a system that estimates flight trajectories of the quadcopter.

In this paper, we propose a collaborative tracking algorithm for intelligent video surveillance systems using the multiple network cameras. To do this, each camera detects a moving object and it's movement direction by motion templates. Once a moving object is detect, the Kalman filter is used to reduce noises, and a collaborative tracking camera is selected according to the movement direction and the camera state. In this procedure, Pan-Tilt-Zoom(PTZ) parameters are assigned to obtain clear images. Finally, some experiments show the validity of the proposed method.
This paper presents a hybrid navigation system for AUV to locate its position precisely in rough sea. The tracking system is composed of various sensors such as an inclinometer, a tri-axis magnetometer, a flow meter, and a super short baseline(SSBL) acoustic position tracking system. Due to the inaccuracy of the attitude sensors, the heading sensor and the flowmeter, the predicted position slowly drifts and the estimation error of position becomes larger. On the other hand, the measured position is liable to change abruptly due to the corrupted data of the SSBL system in the case of low signal to noise ratio or large ship motions. By introducing a sensor fusion technique with the position data of the SSBL system and those of the attitude heading flowmeter reference system (AHFRS), the hybrid navigation system updates the three-dimensional position robustly. A Kalman filter algorithm is derived on the basis of the error models for the flowmeter dynamics with the use of the external measurement from the SSBL. A failure detection algorithm decides the confidence degree of external measurement signals by using a fuzzy inference. Simulation is included to demonstrate the validity of the hybrid navigation system.

This paper presents an integrated underwater navigational algorithm for unmanned underwater vehicles, using additional two-range transducers. This paper proposes a measurement model, using two range measurements, to improve the performance of an IMU-DVL (inertial measurement unit - Doppler velocity log) navigation system for long-time operation of underwater vehicles, excluding DVL measurement. Extended Kalman filter was adopted to propagate the error covariance, to update the measurement errors, and to correct the state equation when the external measurements are available. Simulation was conducted with the 6-d.o.f nonlinear numerical model of an AUV in lawn-mowing survey mode, at current flaw, where the velocity information is unavailable. Simulations illustrate the effectiveness of the integrated navigation system, assisted by the additional range measurements without DVL sensing.

In this paper, we construct the controller for the heat exchanger system using iterative method. For awlying the linear quadratic control theory to the heat exchanger system which is represented by the bilinear system, we fomrulate the bilinear system to execute iteration We also propose Extended Kalman Filter to estimate bilinear system state for the purpose of state feedback controller design. We also awly the iterative controller to the thennal power plant superheater system temperature control, and computer simulation show that the estimated value follows the superheater steam temperature under the variation of the external inputs, and that the output steam temperature is properly maintained.tained.
