The development of the Surrey Research Park by the University of Surrey is an addition to a number of existing strategies to collaborate with industry that it has developed over its 120 year history. The potential to undertake this development was based on owning a substantial land holding that the University acquired when the Borough Council for the town of Guildford invited the University to relocate from Battersea in London to its new location in 1966. Initial plans for the Park in 1979 were accelerated in 1981 in response to plans by the then government to reduce funding for Higher Education in the UK. Beyond a broad master plan for the site that was based on topography and access to the site the plans that were developed were based on a survey of 100 companies that were deemed to be in the target market for the site and a review of the other 7 science parks that were being developed in the UK in 1981. The findings from this proved to be important in developing the master plan for the site. Another important influence on the project was the objectives that were defined for the 3 stakeholders in the project of the University, the tenant companies and the planning authority relate to economic development, a competitive advantage of tenant companies, knowledge transfer, the profile for the University and the capacity to generate income proved to be a valuable framework on which to develop a master plan. These details were underpinned by five objectives which served the three stakeholders in the site. Those for the University included commercial potential, knowledge transfer and image and reputation; those for the town primarily related to economic development and the plan was to help tenants gain a competitive advantage by locating on the site. In addition a number of success indicators were defined for the project against which to measure performance and have remained as a useful set of parameters on which to base the assessment of the performance of the site. In combination with these indicators a further analysis deals with the success factors that are considered as important in influencing performance. The paper sets details the history of the park and covers the success indicators and factors and reviews these in the context of the original objectives for the site.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the interconnection of uniquely identifiable embedded computing devices within the existing Internet infrastructure. IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications. Key system-level features that IoT needs to support can be summarized as device heterogeneity, scalability, ubiquitous data exchange through proximity wireless technologies, energy optimized solutions, localization and tracking capabilities, self-organization capabilities, semantic interoperability and data management, embedded security and privacy-preserving mechanisms. Time information is a critical piece of infrastructure for any distributed system. Time information and time synchronization are also fundamental building blocks in the IoT. The IoT requires new paradigms for combining time and data. This paper reviews conventional time keeping mechanisms in the Internet and presents issues to be considered for combining time and data in the IoT.
A number of investigations have shown that the presence of bacteria is prerequisite for developing pulpal and/or periradicular pathosis. Depending on the stage of pulpal pathosis, various species of bacteria can be cultured from infected root canals. Kakehashi et al. showed that exposure of pulpal tissue in germ-free rats was characterized by minimal inflammation and dentinal bridging while exposure of pulpal tissue in conventional rats with normal oral flora was characterized by pulpal necrosis, chronic inflammation, and periapical lesions. Currently used methods of cleaning and shaping, especially rotary instrumentation techniques, produce a smear layer that covers root canal walls and the openings to the dentinal tubules. The smear layer contains inorganic and organic substances that include fragments of odontoblastic processes, microorganisms, their by products and necrotic materials. Because of its potential contamination and adverse effect on the outcome of root canal therapy, it seems reasonable to suggest removal of the smear layer for disinfection of the entire root canal system. Presence of this smear layer prevents penetration of intracanal medications into the irregularities of the root canal system and the dentinal tubules and also prevents complete adaptation of obturation materials to the prepared root canal surfaces. Removal of the smear layer by an intracanal irrigant and placement of an antibacterial agent in direct contact with the content of dentinal tubules should allow disinfection of this complex system and better outcome for the root canal therapy. A new solution, which was a mixture of a tetracycline, an acid, and a detergent(MTAD), was developed in the Department of Endodontics, Dental School. Lorna Linda University, USA. It has been demonstrated that MTAD was an effective solution for the removal of the smear layer and does not significantly change the structure of the dentinal tubules when used as a final irrigant in conjunction with 1 % NaOCl as a root canal irrigant. Studies are in progress to compare the anti- microbial properties of this newly developed solution with those of sodium hypochlorite and EDTA that are currently used to irrigate the root canals and remove the smear layer from the surfaces of instrumented root canals.canals.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects on maternal-fetal attachment and self efficacy for delivery using the Taekyo-oriented prenatal class. This class is for 2 hours/week for 4 weeks. The program covers the contents of fetal growth and development including their responding ability, the importance of the uterine environment, sharing the motive and purpose of pregnancy, sharing experiences about pregnancy, sharing of prejudices against delivery, training of maternal-fetal interaction, understanding delivery, relaxation breathing techniques, maternity exercises, writing letters or prayers to the baby, and declaration of loving the baby. This study took place from March 4th to June 15th, 2000, in a university hospital and community care center, and was done by with a pretest-posttest design, with 55 pregnant women who were within 32-36 weeks pregnant and who agreed to participate in this study. Data was measured twice by self-report by the Cranley's Maternal-fetal Attachment Scale(MFAS, 1981), and the Shin's(1997) Self Efficacy for Delivery Scale at the beginning and at the completion of the class. Data was analyzed by SAS. The study results were: 1. The score of maternal-fetal attachment was significantly increased after the Taekyo perspective prenatal class than before the class. (t=7.389, p=0.000) 2. The score of self efficacy for delivery was significantly increased after the Taekyo perspective prenatal class than before the class. (t=8.885, p=0.000) The above results proved that the present Taekyo perspective prenatal education program was effective in increasing maternal-infant attachment and self efficacy for delivery. Therefore, it is concluded that the existing prenatal class should include Taekyo perspective elements. However, further study is needed to compare the effects with preexisted prenatal class.
The purpose of the thesis is to find out the correlation between Chinese 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 1) and between 'Save Face' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline', 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 2). It also analyzes and verifies the impact of 'Save Face' among 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline', and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online'(Hypothesis 3). The results of this study shows that correlation between 'behavior of opinion expression on Offline' and 'behavior of opinion expression on Online'. Chinese people who express their views in the public, tend to express their opinions on the Online. The thesis also covers that 'Silence' can be caused not only by 'Personal Fear of Isolation', but also by 'Save Face' upon 'The Spiral of Silence a Theory' by Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann, and prove that 'Save Face' relatively affects 'People talk about their observation'. It also confirms that 'Save Face in Open Space', a factor of 'Save Face's, performs a partial channel on 'Personal Opinion Expression on Online' and 'Personal Opinion Expression on Offline'.
Background: Rasch analysis estimates the probability that a respondent will endorse an item and select a particular rating for that item. It has the advantage of placing both the items and the person along a single ration scale and calibrates person ability and item difficulty onto an interval scale by logits. In addition, Rasch analysis is a useful tool for exploring the validity of questionnaires that have been developed using traditional methods. Therefore, it has been recommended as a method for developing and evaluating functional outcome measures. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the item fit, item difficulty, and rating scale of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale (KFAB) using Rasch analysis. Methods: Total 97 subjects (39 males and 58 females) with dwelling elderly adults were participated, but 3 people were excluded for misfit persons. Rasch analysis was then done by means of the Winsteps program to determine the item fit, item difficulty, rating scale, and reliability of the KFAB. Results: In this study, the 'standing with feet together and eyes closed', 'two-footed jump', 'walk with head turns', and 'stand on foam, eyes closed' items shown misfit statistics. The most difficult item was 'stand on one leg', whereas the easiest item was 'turn in full circle'. The rating scale was acceptable with all criteria. Both item and person separation indices and reliability showed acceptable values. This would indicated that each domain covers a useful range of item difficulty that is appropriate for measuring a person with a wide range of functional ability. Conclusion: The KFAB has been proven reliable, valid and an appropriate tool with which to evaluate the balance of the elderly people.

The conventional track to train communication is commonly using radio based equipment such as transponder or balise to transmit the data. However, there are some drawbacks of the conventional equipment, for example multipath fading, source of bandwidth limitation, and interference from other users. Moreover, the radio based equipment is very expensive when installed in large numbers. To address these problems, we propose infrared system for trackside to train communication system. Infrared system offers a transmission of data to train and it can be processed to obtain at least a train location. Infrared communication protocol provides practical wireless data communication for direct dedication configuration. Furthermore, on the pole configuration the infrared system provides an abundant bandwidth, an economically sensible, minimalized installation of equipment on the trackside and reliability for heavy rain environment. This paper concentrates on the communication function and measurement performance evaluation. The proposed trackside to train communication system covers about 6 meters between infrared receiver and infrared transmitter, whereas the half angle of the transmitter is set to $19.65^{\circ}$ and the receiver angle is $15^{\circ}$.
This study tried to get a deeper understanding of the characteristics of raincoats in Joseon by searching through historic records: the Annals of Joseon(朝鮮王朝實錄), personal or official records, paintings, etc. The time range of the research covers the entire period of Joseon. There were two prime types of raincoats: Saui, a cyperus coat, and Yusam(油衫), an oilcloth coat. The study proceeded as follows: 1) Identifying the people who wore the coats as well as the time period, 2) Figuring out the shapes and materials of those raincoats, 3) Postulating the reasons for the upward trend in popularity of a certain type as well as the eventual downward trend. Those research efforts revealed the following: 1) In the early Joseon, from royals to commoners, people wore Saui. But as time passed valuation about Saui might have become degraded. Eventually it became regarded as a farmer's smock in the 19th Century. 2) Yusam might not have been worn in the early Joseon. It was developed and spread after the middle of 17th Century. It was for soldiers and nobles, especially travelers, but by the end of the Joseon period, it was also used by commoners. 3) Saui was made of cyperus, but Yusam was made of oiled paper, cotton or silk. Those shapes were similar to a Western cloak. The analysis of the research findings led to following conclusions: 1) Around the middle of Joseon, people started to wear Yusam after the introduction of a Chinese version of it. 2) Yusam might have become popular in Joseon because of the social and cultural implications. At that time, people had pride in their culture and thought that real experiences and travels were important. 3) As people became fond of Yusam more, then Saui's popularity fell.
In Korea, pulmonary surfactant (PS) replacement therapy in respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) was started in 1991 since when Surfacten$^{(R)}$ was imported from Japan. At the present time, Surfacten$^{(R)}$, Newfactan$^{(R)}$, Curosurf$^{(R)}$, and Infasurf$^{(R)}$ are available in Korea. The governmental health insurance covers the expense for multiple dose treatment since 2002 and the early prophylactic treatment (BW: <1,250 g or GP: <30 wks) since 2011. We undertook a multi-institutional collective study to evaluate the outcomes of PS over past 20 years in Korea (Period-I; 1990/91, P-II; 1996, P-III; 2002, and P-IV; 2007, P-V; 2010). There were 60 RDS neonates with PS treatment in P-I (16 hospitals), 1,179 in P-II (64), 1,595 in P-III (62), 1,921 in P-IV (57), and 3,160 in P-V (72). Decreased mortality rate, defined as the percentage of neonates who died within 28 days of birth, was seen between periods, P-V vs P-I, II, III, and IV (mortality rate: 10.1% vs. 40.0%, 30.0%, 18.7%, and 14.3%). We conclude that PS therapy contributed to improve remarkable outcome in RDS neonates over the last 20 years in Korea. However, more efforts should be made to optimize PS therapy for better outcome. Multiple PS doses for relapse and poor response, early prophylactic use, and better supportive care for pre-term infants are mandatory.
Snowmelt from seasonal snow covers can be significant in many environments of northern and alpine areas. Water flow and chemical transport resulting from snowmelt have been studied for an understanding of contributions to watersheds or catchments. A Mobile-Immobile water Model (MIM) was developed to describe the movement of ionic tracers through a snowpack by Lee et al. (2008a) and Lee et al. (2008b). To validate the model used in the studies, mass balance calculations of the model were conducted and comparisons were made between model results and analytical solutions in this work. Mass balance was calculated based on the fact that change in total mass within a snowpack with time is equal to sum of any change in the flux of water or ionic tracers into and out of the snowpack. Calculations of both water and ionic mass show almost perfect agreement between changes of two water and solute mass fluxes. Comparisons between model results and analytical solutions including wave velocity and effective saturation show almost perfect agreement.
