In order to increase the thickness uniformity in chemical vapor depositon of silicon carbide, we have carried out CFD studies for a CVD apparatus having a horizontally-rotated 3-stage susceptor. We deposited silicon carbide films of 3C-SiC phase showing quite uniform thickness between stages but not uniform one in the stage. The cause of this nonuniformity is thought to be originated from the high rotational speed. And the uniformity between stages can be further increased with the $120^{\circ}$ split type nozzles from CFD results. Through the formation of silicon carbide film on graphite substrates we can make oxidation-resistant and dust-free graphite components with high hardness for the semiconductor applications.

Both rapid industrial development and society has achieved more comfortable life. But, behind this facts of this industrial development have current pictures that occur global warming and much more by-products by environmental pollution. Therefore, this study used BFS and CFA as by-products to reduce cement usage emitted at a high rate of $CO_2$ gas, to examine sludge recycling strategy more than 200,000ton emitted at local dyeing complex, we suggest basic data research about non-cement matrix properties of utilizing dyeing sludge carbide. As a result, the more dyeing sludge carbide replacement ratio gets higher, the more air content and flow rise. Also, as the dyeing sludge carbide replacement ratio increase more, flexural strength and compressive strength go down.

The synthesis and catalytic activities over vanadium carbides were examined for ammonia decomposition reaction to produce the hydrogen. In particular, the comparison of vanadium nitrides were made on the ammonia decomposition reaction. The experimental data exhibited that BET surface areas ranged from 5.2 ㎡/g to 25.6 ㎡/g and oxygen uptake values varied from 3.8 μmol/g to 31.3 μmol/g. It is general that vanadium carbides (VC) were observed to be superior to vanadium nitrides for ammonia decomposition reaction. The primary reason for these differences were thought to be related to the extent of electronegativity between these materials. Most of vanadium carbide crystallites were exceeded by Pt/C crystallite. We assumed that the activities for vanadium carbide crystallites (VC) were comparable to or even higher than that determined for the Pt/C crystallite.
In this study, the effect of tempering treatment on the mechanical properties in modified 440A steel has been investigated. The amount of remaining carbide decreased with increasing the austenitizing treatment temperature, and all carbides were completely dissolved at $1250^{\circ}C$. The amount of remaining carbide decreased with increasing the time of austenitizing, but the carbide remained insoluble up to 120 minutes at $1050^{\circ}C$. With increasing the tempering temperature, tensile strength decreased, and elongation increased slowly, while hardness rapidly decreased, and impact value unchanged and then rapidly increased over $500^{\circ}C$. The strength and hardness slowly decreased, while the elongation and impact absorbed energy increased with increasing the tempering time. $Cr_{23}C_6$ type carbide was precipitated and sharp decrease of elongation and toughness by tempering did not appear.

Rhenium-Iridium(Re-Ir) thin films were deposited onto the tungsten carbide(WC) molding core by sputtering system. The Re-Ir thin films on tungsten carbide molding core were analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and surface roughness. The Re-Ir coating technique has been intensive efforts in the field of coating process because the coating technique and process have been their feature, like hardness, high elasticity, adrasion resistance and mechanical stability and also have been applied widely the industrial and biomedical areas. In this report, tungsten carbide(WC) molding core was manufactures using high performance precision machining and the efforts of Re-Ir coating on the surface roughness.
Microstructure and fracture behavior of a multi-phase low-density steel were investigated. After hot-rolling and heat treatment, the microstructure of low-density steel was composed of coarse ferrite grains and elongated bands which include second phases such as austenite, martensite and ${\kappa}$-carbide depending on holding time during isothermal heat treatment. After tensile test, microcracks were observed at martensite or ${\kappa}$-carbide interface in the elongated bands. Coarse ferrite grains showed cleavage fracture behavior regardless of second phase. The cleavage fracture of ferrite could be attributed to their coarse grain size and solute atoms that increase ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of ferrite. Despite of the tendency of cleavage fracture in coarse ferrite grains, a specimen having coarse spheroidized ${\kappa}$-carbide particles in the elongated bands showed high total elongation of 30%. Thus, the easiness of plastic deformation in the elongated band seems to play an important role in retardation of cleavage crack formation in coarse ferrite grains.
The microstructure of a high-carbon and high-chromium cast steel (HK700) for cold-work die inserts was analyzed by advanced scanning electron microscopy. A continuous network of primary $M_7C_3$ carbide was developed among austenitic matrix after casting. A small amount of $M_2C$ was added to the carbide network owing to the enrichment of Mo and W during the solidification. After quenching in which the austenitization was performed at $1030^{\circ}C$ and double tempering at $520^{\circ}C$, the network structure of $M_7C_3$ was preserved while most of the matrix was transformed to martensite because of additional carbide precipitation. The $M_2C$ in the as-cast microstructure was also transformed to $M_6C$ due to its instability. The continuous network of coarse carbides owing to the absence of hot-working had little influence on the hardness after quenching and tempering, whereas it resulted in severe brittleness upon flexural loading.

It was attempted to evaluate the degree of degradation of thermally aged 2.25-1Mo steek by ultrasonic monlinear parameter(UNP) measurement and X-ray diffraction analysis of extracted carbide. Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel arising from long time exposure at $540{\circ}C$. Microstructural analysis (number of carbides per unit area) and measurements of mechanical properties(Vickers hardness, DBTT) and degradation evaluation parameters(UNP and intensity ration of X-ray diffraction peak of electrolytically extracted carbide) were performed. Both of UNP and intensity ratio of X-ray diffraction peak for M6C carbide to that of M23C6 carbide(IR) increased abruptly in the initial 1000 hour of aging and then changed little. UNP and IR were proposed as potential parameters to evaluate the degree of aging degradation of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel.

The pretreatment for substrate was carried out in change of gun pressure of $0.5\sim3.5$ bar using wet blasting. The size of $Al_2O_3$ powder was about $50{\sim}150{\mu}m$. As the results, the surface roughness of cemented carbide substrate was improved with increment of gun pressure of wet blasting. A new surface layer was formed and Co particles were uniformly distributed over the entire surface after pretreatment. The adhesion of the pretreated substrate in same PVD-TiAlN film was improved and in approximately $Ra=90\sim120\;nm$ shown the best adhesion value.
