  • A numerical simulation for 11 February 1996 has been done to grasp main mechanisms of the occurrence of strong downslope winds near Gangnung area. The simulation performed by using ARPS (Advanced Regional Prediction System) showed that enhanced surface winds were not related with a reflection of vertically propagating gravity waves. Froude numbers were about 1.0, 0.4 and 0.6 for the atmosphere above Daekwanryoung and above a place located 220km upstream, and above another place located 230km downstream from the Taebak mountains, respectively. This suggested that as a subcritical flow ascended the upslope side of the Taebak mountains, Froude numbers would tend to increase according to the increase in wind speed, and near the crest the flow would become supercritical and continue to accelerate as it went down the downslope side until it was adapted back to the ambient subcritical conditions in a turbulent hydraulic jump. Simulated Froude numbers corroborated the hydraulic jump nature of the strong downslope wind. In addition, the inversion was found near the mountain top height upstream of the mountains, and it was favorable for the occurrence of strong downslope winds.

  • Previous studies on pipe auto-routing algorithms generally used such algorithms as A*, Dijkstra, Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, and Ant Colony Optimization, to satisfy the relevant constraints of its own field and improve the output quality. On the other hand, this study aimed to significantly improve path-finding speed by applying the Jump Point Search (JPS) algorithm, which requires lower search cost than the abovementioned algorithms, for pipe routing. The existing JPS, however, is limited to two-dimensional spaces and can only find the shortest path. Thus, it requires several improvements to be applied to pipe routing. Pipe routing is performed in a three-dimensional space, and the path of piping must be parallel to the axis to minimize its interference with other facilities. In addition, the number of elbows must be reduced to the maximum from an economic perspective, and preferred spaces in the path must also be included. The existing JPS was improved for the pipe routing problem such that it can consider the above-mentioned problem. The fast path-finding speed of the proposed algorithm was verified by comparing it with the conventional A* algorithm in terms of resolution.

  • Objective: This study analyzed the correlation between uni-standing balance ability, jumping ability, and anaerobic lower extremity power of high school Taekwondo players. Design: Cross-sectional study Methods: Two high schools recruited 36 taekwondo players, but 5 were dropped due to personal circumstances and preparations for the tournament, so the number was counted as 31. In order to test uni-standing balance ability, the Romberg test was performed using Biorescue to measure the sway area. In order to test jumping ability, standing long jump and standing highjump were measured. For anaerobic lower extremity muscle power test, the peak power and average power were measured through 30-second pedaling using a Wingate system bicycle. Results: Participants did not show any correlation with other measures in the uni-standing balance ability test (p>0.05). Looking at the correlation in the standing long jump, standing high jump (r=0.892, p<0.05), anaerobic peak power (r=0.698, p<0.05), anaerobic average leg power (r=0.662, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Looking at the correlations in the standing high jump, anaerobic peak power (r=0.663, p<0.05), anaerobic average power (r=0.697, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Looking at the correlation in the anaerobic peak power, average power (r=0.785, p<0.05) showed a positive correlation. Conclusions: This study shows that balance ability and anaerobic leg strength are independent of each other. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the training plan of high school taekwondo players in the future.

  • In order to analyze hydraulic characteristics of discharge coefficient, hydraulic jump height, and hydraulic jump length, accompanied sediment transport, in the under-flow type vertical lift gate, the hydraulic model experiment and dimensional analysis were performed. The correlations between Froude number and hydraulic characteristics were schematized according to the presence and absence of sediment transport; the correlation of hydraulic characteristics and non-dimensional parameters was analyzed and multiple regression formulae were developed. In the hydraulic characteristics accompanied the sediment transport, by identifying the aspect different from the case that the sediment transport is absent, we verified that it is necessary to introduce variables that can express the characteristics of sediment transport. The multiple regression equations were suggested and each determination coefficient appeared high as 0.749 for discharge coefficient, 0.896 for hydraulic jump height, and 0.955 for hydraulic jump length. In order to evaluate the applicability of the developed hydraulic characteristic equations, 95% prediction interval analysis was conducted on the measured and the calculated by regression equations, and it was determined that NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency), RMSE (root mean square), and MAPE (mean absolute percentage error) are appropriate, for the accuracy analysis related to the prediction on hydraulic characteristics of discharge coefficient, hydraulic jump height and length.

  • Extended Graetz problem in microtube is analyzed by using eigenfunction expansion to solve the energy equation. For the eigenvalue problem we applied the shooting method and Galerkin method. The hydrodynamically isothermal developed flow is assumed to enter the microtube with uniform temperature or uniform heat flux boundary condition. The effects of velocity and temperature jump boundary condition on the microtube wall, axial conduction and viscous dissipation are included. From the temperature field obtained, the local Nusselt number distributions on the tube wall are obtained as the dimensionless parameters (Peclet number, Knudsen number, Brinkman number) vary. The fully developed Nusselt number for each boundary condition is obtained also in terms of these parameters.

  • This paper considers the performance of a dynamic priority control function (DPCF) of a threshold-based Bernoulli priority jump (TBPJ) scheme. Loss-sensitive and delay-sensitive traffics are applied to a system with a TBPJ scheme that is a general state-dependent Bernoulli scheduling scheme. Loss-sensitive and delay-sensitive traffics represent sound and data, respectively. Under the TBPJ scheme, the first packet of the loss-sensitive traffic buffer goes into the delay-sensitive traffic buffer with Bernoulli probability p according to system states which represent the buffer thresholds and the number of packets waiting for scheduling. Performance analysis shows that TBPJ scheme obtains large performance build-up for the delay-sensitive traffic without performance degradation for the loss-sensitive traffic. TBPJ scheme shows also better performance than that of HOL scheme.

  • This study aims to contribute to the development of sports wearables. It was conducted by a convergence team of professionals in the fashion industry, kinesiology and sports studies, and computer science and engineering. The purpose of the current study was to design and develop a fabric-type fitness band for a sensor to measure acceleration during jump rope exercises. Computer science and engineering professionals developed the Arduino board and sensor, kinesiology and sports studies provided the necessary exercise protocol, and the fashion industry professionals developed the band. First, a fitness band preference survey was completed by men and women between the ages of 20 and 50. Typical uses of the band included tracking exercise amount as measured by the number of steps taken and calories burned. Strap watch closure, a single color and achromatic color, and soft and smooth touch materials were preferred as band design. Second, two fabric-type fitness bands were designed and developed. Design 1 had a 3-dimensional pocket for the sensor, bright blue color, and stretch binding around the edges and for a loop. Design 2 had a flat pocket for the sensor, achromatic color, mesh binding around the edges and two metal loops. Both designs had Velcro as a closure. Third, wear testing of both bands with the sensor were conducted of 15 women in their 20s. They wore the bands during jump rope exercises. Both bands generally satisfied the participants. The Design 2 band was slightly more satisfying than the Design 1 band.

  • In this paper, performance of a nonblocking high speed packet switch with switching capacity m which adopts a dynamic priority control function (DPCF) of a threshold- based Bernoulli priority jump (TBPJ) scheme is considered. Each input queue has two separate buffers with different sizes for two classes of traffics, delay-sensitive and loss-sensitive traffics, and adopts a TBPJ scheme that is a general state-dependent Bernoulli scheduling scheme. Under the TBP] scheme, a head packet of the delay-sensitive traffic buffer goes into the loss -sensitive traffic buffer with Hernoulli probability p according to systems states that represent the buffer thresholds and the number of packets waiting for scheduling. Performance analysis shows that TBPJ scheme obtains large performance build-up for the delay-sensitive traffic without performance degradation for the loss-sensitive traffic. In addition to, TBP] scheme shows better performance than that of HOL scheme.
