Two psychoacoustic models used in MPEG-1 employ different masking patterns, different masking indexes, and different computational procedures. As a result, Model 1 is inferior to Model 2 due to its worst case approach in computing the SMR even though it determines tonality and masking levels accurately. In this study, we investigate the performances of psychoacoustic models when we modify the MPEG-1 audio coder for variable bitrates. Simulation results show that Model 2 has a gain of 30 kbps in the dual channel mode and 20 kbps in the joint stereo mode. It is generally known that the joint stereo mode has a gain in bitrate compare to the dual channel mode. For signals with frequent attacks, this gain becomes larger in Model 1 than in Model 2. This is due to the fact that Model 1 uses the worst case approach in computing the SMR to reduce pre-echo
The purpose of this study is to develop a mathematical model for system identification in order to predIct muscle force based on eledromyographic signal. Therefore, a finding of the relalionship between characteristics of electromyographic signal and the corre spondng muscle force should be necessiiry through dynamic, joint model. To develop the dynamic joint model, the upper limb mcludmg the wrist and elbow joint has been considered. The kinematic and dynamic data, such as joint angular displacement, velocity, deceleration along with the moment of inertla, required to establish the dynamic model has been obtained by electrical flexible goniometer which has two degree-of-frcedoms. ln this model, muscle force can be predicted only electromyographs through the relationship between the integrated lorce and the mtegrated electromyographic signal over the duration of muscle contraclion in this study.
The objective of this present study is to understand long term(500 years) thermohydromechanical interaction behavior in the vicinity of a repository cavern on the joint location and repository depth variations. The model includes a saturated discontinuous granitic rock mass, PWR spent nuclear fuel in a disposal canister surrounded with compacted bentonite inside a deposition hole, and mixed bentonite backfilled in the rest of the space within a repository cavern. It is assumed that two joint sets exist within the model. Joint set 1 includes joints of 56$^{\circ}$ dip angle, spaced at 20 m, and joint set 2 is in the perpendicular direction to joint set 1 and includes joints of 34$^{\circ}$ dip angle, spaced at 20 m. In order to understand the behavior change on the joint location variations, 5 different models of 500m in depth are analyzed, and additional 3 different models of 1000 m in depth are analyzed to understand the effect of depth variation.

The concrete bridge decks are usually precast and in-situ assembled with steel girders with post-pouring joint in the construction practice of super-wide steel-concrete composite beam. But the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint has been not yet considered for the long-term performance analysis of this kind composite beam. A simply supported precast-assembled T-shaped beam was taken as an example to analyze the long-term performance of steel-concrete composite beam with post-pouring joint. Based on the deformation coordination conditions of the old-new concrete deck and steel girder, a theoretical model for the long-term behavior of precast-assembled composite beam is proposed in this paper according to age-adjusted effective modulus method. Then, the feasibility of the proposed model is verified by the available test data from the Gilbert's composite beams. Parametric studies were preformed to evaluate the influences of the cross-sectional area ratio of the post-pouring joint to the whole bridge deck, as well as the difference of concrete age between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint, on the long-term performance of the composite beam. The results indicate that the traditional method without considering the age difference would seriously underestimate the effect of creep and shrinkage of concrete bridge decks. The concrete age difference between the precast slabs and the post-pouring joint should be demonstrated for the life cycle design and long-term performance analysis of precast-assembled steel-concrete composite beams.
Carroll and Ruppert(1988) analyzed the esterase assay data with regression model based on quasi-likelihood. Jung and Lee(1997) introduced a goodness-of-fit test for testing the adequacy of the quasi-likelihood and claimed that there is no gross inadequacy with the model because their test was not rejected. However, Lee and Xelder(199S)'s residual plots revealed that the model did not sufficiently reflect the increase of the variance with that of the mean. In this paper, we re-analyze the esterase assay data with the joint modelling of mean and dispersion in Lee and l\elder(1998) and evaluate the validity of the fitted model by applying the residual plots. And it is illustrated that Lee and Nelder(199S)'s restricted likelihood is more efficient in goodness-of-fit test for the dispersion model.
Experimental and numerical approaches on the thermal fatigue for the solder joint of flip chip package are discussed. However, it is one of the most difficult problems to choose the proper fatigue model. It was found that viscoplstic FE model with Darveaux method was very desirable and useful to predict the thermal fatigue life of solder joint for flip chip package under $208{\~}423K$ thermal cycling condition such as steep slope of temperature(JEDEC standard condition C). Thermal fatigue life was 1075 cycles as a result of viscoplatic model. It was a good agreement compared to the experimental. And also, it was found from the experimental that probability of the thermal fatigue life was $60{\%}$ at 1500 cycles.

This paper describes a human finger model driven by shape memory alloy(SMA) wires. The finger model has three joints that are similar to human finger. Each joint is actuated with two wires in the antagonistic manner and six wires are used to actuate three finger joint. In order to obtain the desirable finger motion, the diameters of the SMA wires are designed with different diameters by considering the required actuating force and response time. The rotary sensors are used to measure the angle positions of the joints and PWM control using PID algorithm is used to achieve desired angle positions of the finger joints. After estimating the control performance of each finger joint for the desired angle position, the antagonistic motion control of the finger model is experimentally evaluated.

This paper presents the results of experimental and numerical studies conducted to investigate the behavior of exterior reinforced concrete beam column joints (BCJ) strengthened by using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. Twelve reinforced concrete beam-column joints (BCJ) were tested in an experimental program by simulating the joints in seismically deficient old buildings. One group of BCJs was designed to fail in flexure at the BCJ interface, and the second group was designed to ensure joint shear failure. One specimen in each set was -retrofitted with CFRP sheet wrapped diagonally around the joint. The specimens were subjected to both monotonic and cyclic loading up to failure. 3D finite element simulation of the BCJs tested in the experimental program was carried out using the software ABAQUS, adopting the damage plasticity model (CDP) for concrete. The experimental results showed that retrofitting of the shear deficient, BCJs by CFRP sheets enhanced the strength and ductility and the failure mode changed from shear failure in the joints to the desired flexural failure in the beam segment. The FE simulation of BCJs showed a good agreement with the experimental results, which indicated that the CDP model could be used to model the problems of the monotonic and cyclic loading of beam-column reinforced concrete joints.

In building a finite element model of as automotive structure, the pillars and rockers are generally modeled as beam elemnts. The finite elemtns modeling using beam is faster and more efficient than that using shell elemetns. A joint is defined as theintersectio region of beam elemts and generally modeled with coupled rotational springs. In this study, hoint modeling technique is presented. First, the definitions of and anlaysis hypothesis for the joint are defined. Second the evaluation method of the joint stiffness from the static test is proposed. This method is simpler than existing evaluaiton methods. Third, the sensitivity analysis method and updating algorithm forjoint stiffness are presented. To verify these melthods, the finite element results of structural models with rigid joints and rotational spring joints are compared with experimental results.

The objectives of this research are to establish the criteria of peel occurrence considering the shape of bond terminus and to compare the strength properties of some adhesive joints. The criteria of feel occurrence at the bond terminus was suggested. Peel loads of some adhesive joint(butt joint, T -shape specimen, single lap joint) were determined from tensile tests. Principal stress distributions of these joints were determined from finite element method analysis. Then, peel occurrence was estimated with intensity of stress singularity ' $K_{prin.}$' when the terminus shape was square, with average principal stress when the terminus shape was rounded. The conclusions are summarized as follows; (1) In the non-filleted model(e.g., butt joint, T-shape specimen), principal stress shows singularity at the bond terminus, intensity of stress(principal stress) singularity ' $K_{prin.}$&apso; can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus. (2) In the filleted model(e.g., single lap joint), principal stress doesn't show singularity at the bond terminus. Average principal stress can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus.'t show singularity at the bond terminus. Average principal stress can use as the criteria of peel occurrence at the bond terminus.
