This study examined the relationship between job stress, burnout, and job satisfaction perceived by 185 beauty workers. Analysis and structural model analyses were conducted to derive the main results. The results are summarized and presented as follows. First, the job stress perceived by beauty workers has a statistically significant positive effect on burnout. Second, job stress perceived by beauty workers has a statistically significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Third, burnout felt by beauty workers has a statistically significant negative effect on job satisfaction. Through the above results, job stress and burnout should be lowered in order to increase the job satisfaction of beauty workers, and in particular, job stress must effectively be lowered in consideration of the fact that job stress is a determinant that increases burnout and reduces job satisfaction. A method must be discovered to achieve this end.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of job stress on job attitude among nurse practitioners, determine moderating effects of perceived organizational support in this process, and provide preliminary data to devise a scheme for managing job attitude effectively in nursing manpower. The research model was composed of 7 sub-variables of job stress, which was a independent variable; job attitude, which was a dependent variable, was divided into job satisfaction and organizational commitment; and variables of moderating effects included perceived organizational support. The data for empirical analysis of the model were collected from 300 nurses working in one university hospital and two general hospitals in Busan by using structured self-administered questionnaires. The main results of empirical analysis were as follows: Perceived organizational support was effective in preventing job stress from worsening job attitude. Moderating effects of perceived organizational support were found to exist in relations between job stress and organizational commitment. These results imply that a sense of organizational support has both direct and moderating effects on job attitude and can be a good means of managing job attitude.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the factors of the job stress and to analysis affecting job satisfaction in clinical nurses, using the Job Stress Model by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Method: Data collection was done from July 21 to July 30, 2003. The study was involved in 203 nurses who work at the hospital. It was examined the self-recording questionnaire about general characteristics, work-related factors, non-work factors, instrument revised by NIOSH Job Stress questionnaire translated by the Korea Occupational Safety & Health Research Institute(1999). Instrument about shift work was the tool developed by Kim and Gu(1984). Result: Job satisfaction of subjects at an average level with $1.96{\pm}0.37$ score on the basis of 3 points. According to general characteristics, job satisfaction was high in those with older age and married group. According to work related general factors, job satisfaction was high with working career, an officer to higher grade. According to work characteristics factors, job satisfaction was low with much role conflict at work and much workload and much interpersonal conflict. As for the relationship between job satisfaction and non-work factor, job satisfaction was did not show statistically significant differences. As a result of Stepwise multiple regression analysis, job satisfaction was influenced by shift work, conflicts of between group and grade of office. Conclusion: Therefore, it suggests that the nurses need stress management related shift work for improvement of job satisfaction.
This study examined how child care teachers' background characteristics, self-efficacy and job stress relate to their job satisfaction. Participants were 400 child care teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Korea. Structural equation models were developed based on the authors' hypothesized model, which proposed that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress have a mediating effect in the relationship between teachers' background characteristics and job satisfaction. The results revealed that career directly influenced on self-efficacy and job stress but had no direct effect on job satisfaction. Education level was found to have a direct effect on job stress but had no direct effect on self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Teachers' self-efficacy affected job stress and job satisfaction and job stress affected job satisfaction. Furthermore, self-efficacy mediated the effects of career on job stress and job satisfaction. Additionally, job stress mediated the effects of education level and self-efficacy on job satisfaction. These results suggested that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress were key predictors and mediating variables in the relationship between background characteristics and job satisfaction.
Purpose: This study was to examine the relation of nurses' job stress and knowledge, attitude and care behavior for elderly patient in hospitals. Method: One hundred ninety one nurses caring the elderly patients in hospitals in Ilsan, Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do were subjects. The data was collected between Sept. 21 and 31, 2009. Data was analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation with SPSS/Win 17.0 and the fitness of pathway models with AMOS 5.0. Results: The mean scores of job stress and knowledge were in middle range, and attitude and care behavior were in a little higher range. The fitness of hypothetical model was excellent. Job stress had direct effects on attitude and care behavior, knowledge had direct effect on attitude and attitude had direct effect on care behavior. But the pathways related to job stress and attitude and job stress and care behavior were not significant. In modified model deleted the pathway between job stress and attitude, the pathway related to job stress and behavior also was not significant. Conclusion: Education related to the elderly for nurses to improve care behavior is needed continuously.
The purpose of this study was to examine pathways between job characteristics and job satisfaction among local officials in the child care sector. Participants of this study comprised of 128 local officials who worked in the child care sectors. Structural equation modeling was used to test the direct and indirect effects of job characteristics on job satisfaction through job stress and job burnout. Results confirmed the initial model that assumed there would be an indirect effect of job characteristics based on job satisfaction. The path involving three variables of job characteristics, however, were not statistically significant. The initial model was modified by removing the job characteristics variables. The modified model that confirmed the initial model showed that job stress of local officials in the child care sector was likely to increase job burnout; in turn, the job burnout tended to decrease job satisfaction.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the effects and relationships of humor, job satisfaction, job stress and intent to turnover for nurses and suggest a theoretical structural path diagram among the variables. Methods: Data were collected at 6 hospitals located in Seoul, and Gyeonggi Province, from June to September, 2010. Participants were 275 nurses. Data were analyzed using Amos 19.0 for Structural Equation Modeling. Results: Humor had significant effects on job satisfaction (${\beta}$=.15, t=2.29, p=.022) and indirect effects on the intent to turnover in this model ($X^2$=44.18, df=23, RMSEA=0.05, TLI=0.97). But humor did not affect job stress unlike results of previous studies (t=-.02, p=.771). Conclusion: Humor may not affect job stress under the very stressful conditions of the health care environment. The model showed the effect of humor contributed to increases in job satisfaction but did not decrease job stress. Higher levels of job satisfaction could decrease the intent to turnover. Consequently, humor would be helpful in increasing job satisfaction to diminish nurse turnover. Further studies are suggested to investigate causal relationships among humor, burnout, and other emotional and organizational variables.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the turnover intention model for chief nurse officers in general hospitals. The variables for the study included job stress, social support, job satisfaction, and organization commitment. Methods: A predictive, non-experimental design was used with a sample of 144 chief nurse officers from 144 general hospitals. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS, AMOS program. Results: The overall fitness of the hypothetical model to the data was good (${\chi}^2$=16.80, p=.052, GFI=.96, AGFI=.90, NFI=.97, CFI=.99). Job stress, social support, job satisfaction, and organization commitment explained 59.0% of the variance in turnover intention by chief nurse officers. Both organization commitment and social support directly influenced turnover intention for chief nurse officers, and job stress and job satisfaction indirectly influenced turnover intention. Conclusion: The results imply that chief nurse officers in hospitals need social support and management of job stress to increase job satisfaction and organization commitment, and lower turnover intention.
Purpose: This study examined the associations of job stress and burnout with the quality of life (QOL) among 119 emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: Using a descriptive correlational design, 260 EMTs working in D City or S City completed the questionnaires. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine the predictors of QOL among 119 EMTs. Results: Overall, there was relatively low job stress among 119 EMTs. There were significant differences in job stress and burnout by general characteristics, especially regarding those of gender, service career, job rank, and self-reported health. In a hierarchical multiple regression, general characteristics explained 29% of QOL (Model I, F=16.369, p<.001). The explanatory power for QOL increased to 49% upon adding job stress (Model II, F=18.737, p<.001), and 59% upon adding burnout (Model III, F=22.621, p<.001). In the last model, self-reported health (${\beta}=.316$, p<.001), job demand (${\beta}=-.130$, p=.009), job insecurity (${\beta}=-.136$, p=.010), lack of reward (${\beta}=-.189$, p=.001), emotional exhaustion (${\beta}=-.196$, p=.004) and lack of personal accomplishment (${\beta}=-.334$, p<.001) were significant predictors of QOL among 119 EMTs. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is necessary to assess and manage job stress and burnout systematically among EMTs, and to develop health improvement programs for better QOL.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify workers' Job stress status and to analyse the influencing factors. Method: Data were collected from 456 workers with Korean Occupational Stress Questionnaire Short Form(KOSQ SF) and analysed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Results: Total job stress status of men was slightly lower than Korean workers' standard. In case of women, the score of total job stress was lower than Korean workers' standard. The most significant influencing factors to stressors were insufficient sleeping time and self cognitive bad health condition. Among seven domains of job stressors, job demand was affected by 8 characteristics. Conclusion: This study indicated that workers' job stress level were various by their characteristics except workplace size. The development of stress management programs by types of industry is required. On the base of the model program, planning of customized program for every company or employee is required. High job demand, insufficient job control, insufficient sleeping time, bad health condition are the key factors of workers' job stress in this study. The change of workers' health behavior with supportive environment is essential to stress management program. More researches for adding physical environment domain to KOSQ SF are expected.
