  • The purpose of this study was to describe and identify factors that affect job satisfaction of nurses in community mental health facilities. The participants were 201 nurses from 59 nationwide community mental health facilities in Korea. The collected data were analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression with SPSS 20.0 for Windows. The mean scores of nursing activity, job stress, and job satisfaction were 2.0, 2.4, and 3.1, respectively. Nursing activity and job stress were significantly correlated with job satisfaction. According to the multiple regression analysis, perceived health status, nursing activity (management of daily living), and job stress explained 21% of the variance in job satisfaction. This study suggested the necessity of developing and conducting programs for job stress reduction and job competency enhancement to improve job satisfaction of nurses in community mental health facilities.

  • Job's tears(Coix lachryma-jobi L.) chungkukjang powder and wheat bran powder were added to American cookies for practical use as healthy compounds. We examined the antioxidant activity and quality characteristics of cookies prepared with different amounts(as ratios of 10%, 20%, 25% to the flour quantity) of Job's tears chungkukjang & wheat bran powder. The antioxidant activity was estimated by DPPH free radical scavenging activity, the total phenolic compounds content and flavonoid content in Job's tears chungkukjang & wheat bran powder and cookies. The quality characteristics of Job's tears chungkukjang & wheat bran powder American cookie were estimated in terms of bulk density, pH of the dough, spread ratio, color, texture profile analysis, proximate composition, and sensory evaluations. While the spread ratio and the total polyphenol contents, flavonoid contents and DPPH free radical scavenging activity of cookies significantly increased, pH, hardness and L value of the cookies decreased with increasing Job's tears chungkukjang & wheat bran powder(p<0.01). The consumer acceptability score for the 10~20% Job's tears chungkukjang & wheat bran powder American cookie ranked significantly(p<0.05) higher than those of the other groups in texture andoverall preference. This suggests that Job's tears chungkukjang and wheat bran powder are good ingredient candidates for increasing consumer acceptability and functionality of cookies.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to develop a dental hygienist's job satisfaction scale and to evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: A total of 34 preliminary questions were composed based on the components commonly defined in previous studies and in-depth interviews. Results: The results of the study were practice activity, professional satisfaction, income, working conditions, patient relations, and co-worker relations using the exploratory factor analysis. Goodness of fit of the model assessed using confirmatory factor analysis generally met the criteria. On verification of the internal consistency, the Cronbach's alpha for the factors were as follows: 0.821 for practice activity, 0.822 for professional satisfaction, 0.847 for income, 0.765 for working condition, 0.743 for patient relations, and 0.747 for co-worker relations, which implied that the measurement tool was reliable. Through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, a total of 24 items for six factors: six items for practice activity factors, four items for professional satisfaction, three items for income, four items for working conditions, three items for patient relationships, and three items for coworker relations. Conclusions: Based on the aforementioned results, the validity and reliability of the dental hygienist's job satisfaction measurement tool were satisfactory. Thus, it may be used for assessing the job satisfaction of the dental hygienists in future.
