  • Ninety KNP were divided into three group by differential market weight(20 of each group): Live weight of Group 1(G 1), Group 2(G 2) and Group 3(G 3) were 50-59kg, 60-69kg, 70-80kg, respectively. Values of pH and shear force showed an increase, while cooking loss showed decreased with increased weight. In color analysis, $a^{\ast}$ value in meat and $b^{\ast}$ value in backfat of KNP showed higher as slaughter weight increased. Slaughter weight did not significantly affect the fatty acid composition of subcutaneous fat of KNP. With the exception of oleic acid in intermuscular fat, there were no significant weight-dependent differences in the fatty acid profiles.

  • Gelatin protein is derived from animal collagen tissues and is therefore present in many kinds of animal protein food. The biological origin and biocompatibility of gelatin has led to wide-ranging applications in the pharmaceutical and medical fields; for example, as sealants for vascular prostheses, bone-repairing materials, wound healing agents and scaffolds for tissue engineering purposes. In the present study, we investigated the effects of collagen and gleatin on the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) gene which plays a crucial role in many physiological and pathological processes in macrophages. • The distribution and form of pine wood nematode (PWN) were investigated in Jinju-si and Sacheon-si areas, where infested with pine wilt disease (PWD). The average PWN population per g of the tubulation part in the wilted Japanese balck pine were 381.2 and 341 in Jinju-si and Sacheon-si, respectively. The PWN population per g of affected Japanese black pine with wilt rate below 60% were 556 and 518 in Jinju-si and Sacheon-si, respectively. The ratios of PWN and other plant-parasitic nematode in the wilted Japanse black pines were 48% vs. 52% in Jinju-si and 53% vs. 47% in Sacheon-si after exposure to PWD for 1 year. The survivorship of pine wood nematode in the sampled trees after 1 year was 0-10% in the Jinju-si area and 5-20% detected in the Sacheon-si area. In the forest areas affected by PWN, the highest survival rates were 37.2% and 39.8% at 25 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) in Jinju-si and Sacehon-si, respectively, while the highest wilt rates were 30.5% and 28.3% at 30 cm DBH in Jinju-si and Sacehon-si, respectively.

  • Recently, renewable energy has been increasing in Korea to reduce greenhouse gas, and solar power generation, which accounts for the largest proportion of renewable energy, is noteworthy. The government policy will further increase solar power generation. In order to implement the policy, it is important to understand the current status of domestic solar power generation facilities. Therefore, the current status of solar power generation facilities in Jinju city close to the south coast and Jeonju city close to the west coast was investigated and compared. By 2020, 618 solar power plants had been installed in Jeonju city and 269 in Jinju city. However, there is not much difference in the amount of solar power generation for business at 9 GWh. The reason is that Jinju city has a lower population density than Jeonju city, so there are enough places to install a large-scale solar power facilities with a large power generation capacity. Monthly solar power generation was the highest in April in both Jeonju city and Jinju city and the lowest in January. In particular, in December, Jinju city showed more solar power generation than Jeonju city because of the large amount of insolation, long sunshine hours, and few clouds.

  • A total of 64 specimens of trace fossils were collected from the Jinju Formation of the construction site of Jinju Aviation Industrial Complex, and from the Haman Formation of Namhae Gain-ri fossil site. The fossils are continuously and regularly meandering sine-curve in shape. The fossil varies in morphology: width between 0.2 and 5.6 mm, wavelength between 1.5 and 28 mm, and amplitude between 0.9 and 7.9 mm; the Jinju specimens are commonly wider than the Haman ones. The ratio of wavelength to amplitude is more or less regular regardless of width of the specimen, and the linear correlation of the ratios shows that the Jinju specimens fit better than the Haman specimens. Taking all morphometric parameters, specimens in all size ranges are temporarily identified as ichnospecies Cochlichnus anguineus. In order to obtain more distinct and clearer images of Cochlichnus, we selected two specimens and applied a new imaging technology RTI. For photography of the trace fossils, 50 to 80 images were taken per set with photometric lighting close to the surface and horizontally. RTI technology clearly showed that the images of tiny fossils were improved: the surface contrast become sharper and messy and unnecessary information disappeared. Currently, RTI technology is used in many fields including preservation of cultural properties and archaeology. As a consequence, we hope to apply this technique to the field of paleontology, especially to the study of trace fossils of very small size.

  • Cupressinocladus sp. found from the upper part of the Jinju Formation of the Shindong Group, Korea is described here based on the newly found leafy shoots. This species is characterized by the branched leafy shoot with decussate scale leaves. The presence of Cupressinocladus in the Jinju Formation indicates that the Early Cretaceous flora-sites in Eastern Eurasia are in a close association with territories of the mixed-type floras. The finding of this species records the first report for the Nakdong flora.

  • Jinju City has been often called as the largest agglomeration of the silk industry in Korea. However Jinju's silk industry has experienced a continuous decline in employment and to production outputs after the late 1980s. This paper aims to explore innovation capacities of Jinju's silk industry and evaluate the government policy to promote the competitiveness of the silk industry in Jinju. The main findings are as follows. First, the survey shows that the major sources of innovation tend to come from customer firms in the Capital area and the innovation supporting agency and universities in Jinju City. Second, local silk production firms tend to by and large evaluate that the industrial policy projects to promote the competitiveness of Jinju's silk industry have been successful, particularly in terms of a joint branding project and the marketing support program.

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate phenotypic and genotypic methods for detection of Metallo-Beta-Lactamases (MBLs) among nosocomial Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Of the 50 P. aeruginosa isolates from clinical specimens, 20 were evaluated for carbapenem resistance and screened for MBL by double-disk synergy test and combined-disk test. Nineteen strains (95%) were found to be MBL producers among the 20 P. aeruginosa. MBL positives were further confirmed by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). For the IMP and VIM types of MBLs, PCR analysis was performed on 19 of the 20, and 10 were positive for VIM MBL type. This study reports the validation of a simple and accurate MBL detection method that can be easily incorporated into the daily routine of a clinical laboratory. Early detection of MBL-carrying organisms, including those with susceptibility to carbapenems, is of paramount clinical importance, as it allows rapid initiation of strict infection control practices as well as therapeutic guidance for confirmed infection.Key Words : Hepatitis A virus (HAV), Anti-HAV, Hospital workers, Prevalence, Vaccination
