By using a centerbody injection, an effort to reduce shock assoicated noise is made in an underexpanded sonic nozzle with an exit diameter of 10mm. The centerbody or micro nozzle, aligned with the axis of the main jet has an o.d. of 2mm and i.d. of 1.5mm. When measured at 90$^{\circ}$ relative to the main jet the farfield noise spectra showed that the screech tones and broadband shock associated noise can be significantly reduced simply by varying the length of the centerbody and/or mass fraction of the microjet. The maximum reduction in overall sound pressure level (OASPL) was as much as 9 and 4 ㏈ at fully expanded jet Mach numbers Mi of 1.3 and 1.5, respectively, when the length of the centerbody was varied from 0 to 4 main nozzle diameters without blowing. With the aid of the blowing, the maximum reduction in OASPL increased to 12 and 7 ㏈ at M$\sub$j/=1.3 and 1.5, respectively. The impact pressure field in the main jet plume strongly suggested that the reduced periodic pressure distribution in the shear layers and/or centerline is responsible for the reduced screech and broadband shock associated noise. Therefore, the steady blowing by a micro centerbody is a promising technique for shock noise reduction in a supersonic jet.
Supersonic coaxial, axisymmetric, jets issuing from various kinds of dual coaxial nozzles were experimentally investigated. Four different kinds of coaxial, dual nozzles were employed to characterize the major features of the supersonic, coaxial, dual jets. Two convergent-divergent supersonic nozzles with an impinging angle in the jet axis of the annular jets were designed to have the Mach number 2.0 and used to compare the coaxial jet flows with those discharging from two sonic nozzles. The primary pressure ratio was changed in the range from 4.0 to 10.0 and the assistant jet ratio from 1.0 to 4.0. The results obtained show that the assistant jets from the annular nozzle affect the coaxial jet flows and an increase of both the primary jet pressure ratio and assistant jet pressure ratio produces longer supersonic length of the dual, coaxial jet.

The turbulent structures of the free plane jet and two dimensional impinging jet are investigated experimentally. In order to get the two dimensional jet, the contour of the cubic equation suggested by Morel is used for a contracting nozzle. A linearized constant-temperature hot-wire anemometer is used for measurement. Mean velocities and turbulent intensities are measured along the centerline of the jet. Jet halp width spatial double velocity correlation coefficients and integral length scales are obtained. It is established that the free plane jet is truly self-preserving about 40 slot widths downstream of the nozzle. The experiments for the impinging jet are carried out at four different impingement wall locations within the self-preserving region of the free plane jet, and comparing the results with that of free plane jet, the mean velocity is changed in the region of 0.25H and turbulent intensities are affected in the region of 0.2H from the wall, respectively, where H means the distance between the nozzle exit and the wall.
The prediction of the critical Reynolds number in the stability curie of liquid jet was mainly analyzed by the empirical correlations and the experimental data through the literature. The factors affecting the critical Reynolds number include Ohnesorge number, nozzle length-diameter ratio, ambient pressure and nozzle inlet type. The nozzle inlet type was divided into two groups according to the dependence of the critical Reynolds number on the length-to-diameter ratio of nozzle. The empirical correlations for the critical Reynolds number as a function of above factors mentioned are newly proposed.
Investigations on simulated near-surface atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) in an open-jet facility are carried out by conducting experimental tests on small-scale models of low-rise buildings. The objectives of the current study are: (1) to determine the optimal location of test buildings from the exit of the open-jet facility, and (2) to investigate the scale effect on the aerodynamic pressure characteristics. Based on the results, the newly built open-jet facility is well capable of producing mean wind speed and turbulence profiles representing open-terrain conditions. The results show that the proximity of the test model to the open-jet governs the length of the separation bubble as well as the peak roof pressures. However, test models placed at a horizontal distance of 2.5H (H is height of the wind field) from the exit of the open-jet, with a width that is half the width of the wind field and a length of 1H, have consistent mean and peak pressure coefficients when compared with available results from wind tunnel testing. In addition, testing models with as large as 16% blockage ratio is feasible within the open-jet facility. This reveals the importance of open-jet facilities as a robust tool to alleviate the scale restrictions involved in physical investigations of flow pattern around civil engineering structures. The results and findings of this study are useful for putting forward recommendations and guidelines for testing protocols at open-jet facilities, eventually helping the progress of enhanced standard provisions on the design of low-rise buildings for wind.
The first maximum point in the stability curve of liquid jet, i.e., the critical point is associated with the critical Reynolds number. This critical Reynolds number should be predicted by simple means. In this work, the critical Reynolds number in the stability curve of liquid jet are predicted using the empirical correlations and the experimental data reported in the literatures. The critical Reynolds number was found to be a function of the Ohnesorge number, nozzle lengh-to-diameter ratio, ambient Weber number and nozzle inlet type. An empirical correlation for the critical Reynolds number as a function of the Ohnesorge number and nozzle length-to-diameter ratio is newly proposed here. Although an empirical correlation proposed in this work may not be universal because of excluding the effects of ambient pressure and nozzle inlet type, it has reasonably agrees with the measured critical Reynolds number.

Important characteristics of impinging sprays intersected by a strongly convective gaseous cross flows were experimentally investigated. The breakup processes due to different Weber and Reynolds numbers of liquid and gas streams were visually examined with quantitative measurements of breakup lengths, penetration heights, and droplet sizes. Snapshot images and spay data evidenced that, at lower jet Reynolds number the breakup processes portrays the atomization profiles similar to typical column breakup of single orifice jet. At higher jet Reynolds numbers, disintegration of jet stream is significantly expedited by strong momentum transported from strongly convective gaseous stream. The breakup length and penetration height decreased as the convective flow increase. From the bottom the wall up, the SMD measured the centerline increase. The maximum SMD appeared the top of the SMD distribution

Jet pump is one type of artificial lifts and is used when depth and deviation of producing wells increases and pressure depletion occurs. In the present study, numerical analysis has been carried out to analyze the flow behavior and find the performance of the jet pump. Reynolds-averaged Navier Stokes equations were solved and k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model was used for simulations. Water and light oil as primary fluids were used to pump water, light oil and heavy oil. The ratios of area and length to diameter of the mixing tube were considered as design parameters. The pump efficiency was considered to maximize for the downhole conditions. It was found that the increase in viscosity and density of the secondary fluid reduced efficiency of the system. Water as primary fluid produced better efficiency than the light oil. It was also found that the longer throat length increased efficiency upto 40% if light oil was used as primary fluid and secondary fluid viscosity was 350 cSt.

The present study has proposed a novel aerosol CVD utilizing an internal jet in the conventional MCVD reactor for the purpose of enhancing the deposition efficiency(and rate) and the uniformity of deposited film. The use of impingement of high temperature jet through a thin inner tube ensures the reduction of non-uniform particle deposition zone as well as higher thermophoretic particle deposition. It is shown that significant improvements have been achieved for both aspects of deposition efficiency and uniformity. As jet temperatures increase, the tapered length is reduced and deposition efficiency is significantly increased.
