A Semantic-Based Information Filling System Using Ontology (온톨로지를 이용한 의미 기반 정보 채움 시스템)

  • It is very iterative and complicated work to enter the personal information every time one fills the form-based resume or one joins the new membership page on the internet. Although there are some systems that have the personal information on the computer and fill the membership page automatically, their accuracies are not often satisfactory in that the fields and their values do not match exactly. The research proposes and implements a system that has user's information on the computer and reasons and fills the information automatically that a membership web page(target page) requests using the personal information ontology. During the reasoning process, the target page is analyzed to extract the requested fields. Then the requested field names are converted to the standard field names using synonym ontology. The converted requested fields find the appropriate level in the personal information ontology using ontology match making to generate the final field value. The system not only finds the similar fields but also generates the exact field values by reasoning on the information ontology hierarchy. By experimenting with several membership pages on the web, the system showed higher accuracy over the existing systems. The system can be easily applicable to the cases where one iteratively fills the same information such as resume form.

An Indirect Localization Scheme for Low- Density Sensor Nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서 저밀도 센서 노드에 대한 간접 위치 추정 알고리즘)

  • Each sensor node can know its location in several ways, if the node process the information based on its geographical position in sensor networks. In the localization scheme using GPS, there could be nodes that don't know their locations because the scheme requires line of sight to radio wave. Moreover, this scheme is high costly and consumes a lot of power. The localization scheme without GPS uses a sophisticated mathematical algorithm estimating location of sensor nodes that may be inaccurate. AHLoS(Ad Hoc Localization System) is a hybrid scheme using both GPS and location estimation algorithm. In AHLoS, the GPS node, which can receive its location from GPS, broadcasts its location to adjacent normal nodes which are not GPS devices. Normal nodes can estimate their location by using iterative triangulation algorithms if they receive at least three beacons which contain the position informations of neighbor nodes. But, there are some cases that a normal node receives less than two beacons by geographical conditions, network density, movements of nodes in sensor networks. We propose an indirect localization scheme for low-density sensor nodes which are difficult to receive directly at least three beacons from GPS nodes in wireless network.

  • Harmony search algorithm (HSA), developed by Hydrosystem lab. in Korea University in 2001, was a new meta-heuristic optimization algorithm inspired by the iterative improvision process of Jazz music players where the best harmony is eventually produced. HSA is now one of the most well-known meta-heuristic algorithms (as proven by its cited number of the first published paper more than 3,600 times as of January 11th 2018 based on Google Scholar citation) and has been applied to diverse research domains such as not only water resources and civil engineering but also in medical science, business, and humanities. This paper is a review article written with the wish for wider application of HSA and other optimization algorithms, especially in the domain of water resources engineering. Therefore, this paper first briefly introduces the mechanism and operators of HSA and then reviews its application area and citation frequency per research domain. In addition, recent globalization of HSA will be investigated and summarized by checking the current status of related international conferences and on-going research projects. After reviewing previous domestic papers with optimization algorithms specifically published in the water resources domain, this paper is finalized by delivering some suggestions to encourage the application of optimization algorithms including HSA.

Automation of Building Extraction and Modeling Using Airborne LiDAR Data (항공 라이다 데이터를 이용한 건물 모델링의 자동화)

  • LiDAR has capability of rapid data acquisition and provides useful information for reconstructing surface of the Earth. However, Extracting information from LiDAR data is not easy task because LiDAR data consist of irregularly distributed point clouds of 3D coordinates and lack of semantic and visual information. This thesis proposed methods for automatic extraction of buildings and 3D detail modeling using airborne LiDAR data. As for preprocessing, noise and unnecessary data were removed by iterative surface fitting and then classification of ground and non-ground data was performed by analyzing histogram. Footprints of the buildings were extracted by tracing points on the building boundaries. The refined footprints were obtained by regularization based on the building hypothesis. The accuracy of building footprints were evaluated by comparing with 1:1,000 digital vector maps. The horizontal RMSE was 0.56m for test areas. Finally, a method of 3D modeling of roof superstructure was developed. Statistical and geometric information of the LiDAR data on building roof were analyzed to segment data and to determine roof shape. The superstructures on the roof were modeled by 3D analytical functions that were derived by least square method. The accuracy of the 3D modeling was estimated using simulation data. The RMSEs were 0.91m, 1.43m, 1.85m and 1.97m for flat, sloped, arch and dome shapes, respectively. The methods developed in study show that the automation of 3D building modeling process was effectively performed.

A Stable Multilevel Partitioning Algorithm for VLSI Circuit Designs Using Adaptive Connectivity Threshold (가변적인 연결도 임계치 설정에 의한 대규모 집적회로 설계에서의 안정적인 다단 분할 방법)

  • This paper presents a new efficient and stable multilevel partitioning algorithm for VLSI circuit design. The performance of multilevel partitioning algorithms that are proposed to enhance the performance of previous iterative-improvement partitioning algorithms for large scale circuits, depend on choice of construction methods for partition hierarchy. As the most of previous multilevel partitioning algorithms forces experimental constraints on the process of hierarchy construction, the stability of their performances goes down. The lack of stability causes the large variation of partition results during multiple runs. In this paper, we minimize the use of experimental constraints and propose a new method for constructing partition hierarchy. The proposed method clusters the cells with the connection status of the circuit. After constructing the partition hierarchy, a partition improvement algorithm, HYIP$^{[11]}$ using hybrid bucket structure, unclusters the hierachy to get partition results. The experimental results on ACM/SIGDA benchmark circuits show improvement up to 10-40% in minimum outsize over the previous algorithm $^{[3] [4] [5] [8] [10]}$. Also our technique outperforms ML$^{[10]}$ represented multilevel partition method by about 5% and 20% for minimum and average custsize, respectively. In addition, the results of our algorithm with 10 runs are better than ML algorithm with 100 runs.

English Vocabulary Learning Application Development Applying Forgetting Curve and Match Result Based Rating System (망각곡선과 대결 기반 순위 결정 시스템을 적용한 영어 단어 학습 어플리케이션 개발)

  • This paper presents English vocabulary memorization system using forgetting curve to automatically adjust the vocabulary difficulty to match learner's level. Our system will decide the appropriate repetition cycle, depending on the number of memorizing words through the forgetting curve, then requires an iterative learning. No matter what learners know or do not know, words are reviewed. To save time by reviewing some words which have the highest probability that learners forget. And it provides vocabulary based on learner level, which makes learner maintain their interest and achievement. A general system provides vocabularies which difficulty matches with evaluated ones, or randomly provides some vocabularies without consideration of users' level. But we apply the "Glicko" system which is being used in the online chess game ranking system to adjust the vocabulary's difficulty. We utilize the system used in the one-by-one player system to our vocabulary-human system. As a result, learners's level and the vocabularies's difficulty is measured in the review process. Moreover it maximizes the performance of English vocabulary memorization by applying feedbacks from practice testing and distributed learning.

The Development and the Application of a Collaborative Design Prototyping Tool for Digital Products (디지털 제품의 협동적 디자인을 위한 프로토타이핑 도구 개발 및 활용 사례 연구)

  • There is a lack of user centered design methods that support effective collaboration between designers and end-users for designing hardware and software integrated digital products. This paper presents the application of Collaborative Design and a new collaborative design prototyping tool for interactive digital product design projects. The tool consists of STCtools(State Transition Chart tools) software, hardware modeling materials, and physical interface toolkits for integrating software and hardware. STCtools allow users to create and edit States, to compose Events describing transitions between States, and to run intermediate or final results of STC. Using the hardware modeling materials and the physical interface toolkit, designers and end-users can collaborately examine the hardware and software integrated concepts in an early stage of the design process. Three collaborative design workshops of designing a portable digital guide for a theme park were accomplished to examine the feasibility of the tool. The results suggested that the tool supported iterative concept development and interactions between designers and end users. Although several user interface problems of STCtools were identified, the participants gave positive feedback on the role of the tool in collaborative concept generation and deployment. It is expected that the results of this study contribute not only to the collaboration between designers and end users, but also to the collaboration between designers, and between designers and other professionals.

Application of Multispectral Remotely Sensed Imagery for the Characterization of Complex Coastal Wetland Ecosystems of southern India: A Special Emphasis on Comparing Soft and Hard Classification Methods

  • This paper makes an effort to compare the recently evolved soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) with the traditional hard classification methods based on Iterative Self-Organizing Data Analysis (ISODATA) and Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) algorithms in order to achieve appropriate results for mapping, monitoring and preserving valuable coastal wetland ecosystems of southern India using Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) 1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 Thematic Mapper image data. ISODATA and MLC methods were attempted on these satellite image data to produce maps of 5, 10, 15 and 20 wetland classes for each of three contrast coastal wetland sites, Pitchavaram, Vedaranniyam and Rameswaram. The accuracy of the derived classes was assessed with the simplest descriptive statistic technique called overall accuracy and a discrete multivariate technique called KAPPA accuracy. ISODATA classification resulted in maps with poor accuracy compared to MLC classification that produced maps with improved accuracy. However, there was a systematic decrease in overall accuracy and KAPPA accuracy, when more number of classes was derived from IRS-1C/1D and Landsat-5 TM imagery by ISODATA and MLC. There were two principal factors for the decreased classification accuracy, namely spectral overlapping/confusion and inadequate spatial resolution of the sensors. Compared to the former, the limited instantaneous field of view (IFOV) of these sensors caused occurrence of number of mixture pixels (mixels) in the image and its effect on the classification process was a major problem to deriving accurate wetland cover types, in spite of the increasing spatial resolution of new generation Earth Observation Sensors (EOS). In order to improve the classification accuracy, a soft classification method based on Linear Spectral Mixture Modeling (LSMM) was described to calculate the spectral mixture and classify IRS-1C/1D LISS-III and Landsat-5 TM Imagery. This method considered number of reflectance end-members that form the scene spectra, followed by the determination of their nature and finally the decomposition of the spectra into their endmembers. To evaluate the LSMM areal estimates, resulted fractional end-members were compared with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), ground truth data, as well as those estimates derived from the traditional hard classifier (MLC). The findings revealed that NDVI values and vegetation fractions were positively correlated ($r^2$= 0.96, 0.95 and 0.92 for Rameswaram, Vedaranniyam and Pitchavaram respectively) and NDVI and soil fraction values were negatively correlated ($r^2$ =0.53, 0.39 and 0.13), indicating the reliability of the sub-pixel classification. Comparing with ground truth data, the precision of LSMM for deriving moisture fraction was 92% and 96% for soil fraction. The LSMM in general would seem well suited to locating small wetland habitats which occurred as sub-pixel inclusions, and to representing continuous gradations between different habitat types.

A Study on the Structural Reinforcement for the Reduction of Transverse Vibration by Ship's Main Engine (선박 주기관에 의한 횡진동 저감을 위한 구조보강 연구)

  • Transverse vibrations of a ship's aft end and deckhouse are mainly induced by transverse exciting forces from the main engine. Resonance should be avoided in the initial design stages when there is a prediction of resonance between the main engine and transverse modes of the deckhouse. Estimates of frequencies for resonance avoidance are possible from the specifications of the main engine and propeller, but the inherent vibration frequency of the structure around the engine room is not easy to estimate due to the variation in the shape. Experience-oriented vibration design is also carried out, which results in many problems, such as process delay, over-injection of on-site personnel, and iterative performance of the design. For the flexible design of 8,600 TEU container vessels, this study addressed the resonance problem caused by the transverse vibration of the main engine when only the main engine was changed from 12 cylinders to 10 cylinders without modification of the hull structure layout. Efficient structural reinforcement design guidelines are presented for avoiding resonances with the main engine lateral vibration and the structure around the engine room. The guidelines are expected to be used as practical design guidelines at design sites.
