  • The skin condition after dermatological surgery can be changed. As the laser light penetrates into the skin during the procedure it will activate biomolecules which are the cause of the related redness. In addition, it can parch sensitive skin and worsen itching and flaking. The original intention of 'BB cream' is for soothing sensory skin, but not for make-up. The commonly used 'BB cream' is suitable for all skin types and are targeted specially to those who have sensitive and acne-prone skin. It has the advantages of both skin-care and make-up as it improves the skin condition and evens out the skin tone while providing coverage for redness spots and other blemishes. Our study focuses to give the make-up function that naturally correct the brightness and contrast of redness skin, to realize the skin-care function that is effective against sensitive skin.

  • Recently oriental medicine has become a new issue in the global medical field because of increasing demands for the treatment of old people. Western medical equipment is becoming popular with big companies related to IT, communication and medical treatment. But globalization of oriental medicine techniques is inadequate due to lack of knowledge about oriental medicine. The cupping equipment has great growth potential because it is easy for old people to use the equipment. The purpose of this paper is to promote the portable multi electrical cupping system. The system may be used by patients themselves without any help from others. By using many cupping cups at the same time and regulating the timer and vacuum pressure. The patient can decrease itching and relax the hardened muscles. The system is expected to grow in the future as oriental medicine will be in high demand in aging society with IT convergence industry.

  • Objectives : Atopic dermatitis is an irritable skin disease accompanying rash and itching leading to impaired skin barrier. ATO-ALL is an ethanol extract of natural products comprising 12 herbs and effective on atopic dermatitis. In this study, we aimed to propose that the effect of ATO-ALL on skin regeneration in human keratinocyte cell line, HaCaT cells. Methods : To evaluate the skin regenerating effects of ATO-ALL, scratch wound healing assay, bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) assay, and propidum iodide (PI) assay were performed using cultured HaCaT cell line. Result : Scratch wound healing assay showed that ATO-ALL was able to enhance the gap filling activity more than 2-fold at 7 ppm concentration compared with control group. BrdU assay demonstrated that ATO-ALL treatment increased the de novo cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. Finally, PI assay indicated that the cell cycle of HaCaT cells was modulated by ATO-ALL treatment. Conclusions : These results suggested that ATO-ALL may have skin regenerating effects by increasing cell proliferation via cell cycle regulation. Taken together, ATO-ALL is supposed to have a potential on regeneration of damaged skin or functional disease including atopic dermatitis.

  • From the perspective of the definition of pain, pain can be divided into emotional and sensory components, which originate from potential and actual tissue damage, respectively. The pharmacologic treatment of the emotional pain component includes antianxiety drugs, antidepressants, and antipsychotics. The anti-anxiety drugs have anti-anxious, sedative, and somnolent effects. The antipsychotics are effective in patients with positive symptoms of psychosis. On the other hand, the sensory pain component can be divided into nociceptive and neuropathic pain. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids are usually applied for somatic and visceral nociceptive pain, respectively; anticonvulsants and antidepressants are administered for the treatment of neuropathic pain with positive and negative symptoms, respectively. The NSAIDs, which inhibit the cyclo-oxygenase pathway, exhibit anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic effects; however, they have a therapeutic ceiling. The adverse reactions (ADRs) of the NSAIDs include gastrointestinal problems, generalized edema, and increased bleeding tendency. The opioids, which bind to the opioid receptors, present an analgesic effect only, without anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, or ceiling effects. The ADRs of the opioids start from itching and nausea/vomiting to cardiovascular and respiratory depression, as well as constipation. The anticonvulsants include carbamazepine, related to sodium channel blockade, and gabapentin and pregabalin, related to calcium blockade. The antidepressants show their analgesic actions mainly through inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin or norepinephrine. Most drugs, except NSAIDs, need an updose titration period. The principle of polypharmacy for analgesia in case of mixed components of pain is increasing therapeutic effects while reducing ADRs, based on the origin of the pain.

The results were summarized as follows: 1. Among 65 outpatients, male was 20 ($30.8\%$) and female was 45 ($69.2\%$). In the distribution of age, 10S was $21.5\%,\;and\;20S\;20\%$ at the first visit. 2. In the distribution of season, the peak incidence occured in Spring ($35.4\%$) and next incidence in Winter ($20\%$). 3. In the distribution of duration, $41.5\%$ was between 1 year and 5 years, $20\%$ between 1 month and 6 months, $12.3\%$ between 6 months and 1 year, $9.2\%$ between 5 years and 10 years, $7.7\%$ over 10 years. 4. In regard to the itching lesion, $66.2\%$ showed pruritus throughout the whole body, including partially $15.4\%$ in their heads and faces, $12.3\%$ in their hands and legs, and $6.3\%$ in their shoulders, sides and hips. 5. The most frequently used prescription, was Gosanhomasan (苦蔘胡麻散) which occupied $60.7\%$ of all, in next order of frequency, Gamisamooltang (加味四物湯 $21.4\%$) Gupoongchongkisan (祛風淸肌散 $12.5\%$) and Bangpoongtongsungsan (防風通聖散 $5.4\%$). 6. In regard to the therapeutic duration, $46.2\%$ was showed under 10 days, $18.5\%$ between 10 days and 20 days, and $16.9\%$ between 30 days and 60 days. 7. In the 35 patients, who were confirmed to show apparent result by continual treatment, curative rate was more than $57.6\%$. According to above results, we can confirm that efficacy of therapeutic measures by the oriental medicine on pruritic dermatoses was increased in proportion to therapeutic duration and we feel sure that the therapeutic efficacy can be gradually increased as we expect to make a deep study of the disease and to give correct medical treatment to the nature of the disease.

  • Objective: The purpose of this report is to prove the clinical effect of Platycodon grandiflorum aqueous extract on pneumoniae patients. Methods: We used the aqueous extract of Platycodon grandiflorum to treat two pneumoniae patients. It was injected into five acupuncture points, which was Chondol(天突:CV22) 1 point, Pyesu(肺兪 : BL13) 2 point, and Kworumsu(厥陰兪: BL14) 2 point. Results & conclusions: We have used the aqueous extract of 24-year-old JK for treating the patients suffering from lung diseases, and have experienced the actual effects. Of the treated, two pneumonia-involved patients showed apparent improvement in simple chest X-ray and clinical symptoms. The patients were treated with JK (Jang-saeng platycodon) aqueous extract 25 and 22 times individually. The results were as follows. 1. The symptoms including coughing, phlegm, and fever were improved in two cases. 2. The lung infiltration in simple chest X-ray decreased and the WBC count was kept within normal range in two cases. 3. Side effect such as itching was not found in the process of JK aqueous extract treatment. 4. The criteria for pneumonia are fever, coughing with purulent phlegm, pleural chest pain, the evidence of new infiltration in simple chest X-ray, sign of lung sclerosis in auscultation, increase of WBC count, etc. But they may not be the proper objective diagnostic standards. So we had trouble in statistic process and numerical interpretation. Putting these results together, the JK aqueous extract is considered to be effective in treating patients for pneumonia, and the continuous research and accumulation of data is needed.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify cancer-related symptom clusters and to validate the conceptual meanings of the revealed symptom clusters in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional survey and methodological study. Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (N=194) were recruited from a medical center in Seoul. The 20-item Symptom Checklist was used to assess patients' symptom severity. Selected symptoms were factored using principal-axis factoring with varimax rotation. To validate the revealed symptom clusters, the statistical differences were analyzed by status of patients' performance status, Child-Pugh classification, and mood state among symptom clusters. Results: Fatigue was the most prevalent symptom (97.4%), followed by lack of energy and stomach discomfort. Patients' symptom severity ratings fit a four-factor solution that explained 61.04% of the variance. These four factors were named pain-appetite cluster, fatigue cluster, itching-constipation cluster, and gastrointestinal cluster. The revealed symptom clusters were significantly different for patient performance status (ECOG-PSR), Child-Pugh class, anxiety, and depression. Conclusion: Knowing these symptom clusters may help nurses to understand reasonable mechanisms for the aggregation of symptoms. Efficient symptom management of disease-related and treatment-related symptoms is critical in promoting physical and emotional status in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.
