The compression molding is widely used in the automotive industry to produce products that are large, thin, lightweight and stiff. The molded product is formed by squeezing a fiber-reinforced plastic composites. During a molding process of fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites, control of filling patterns in mold, orientation and distribution of fibers are needed to predict the effects of molding parameters on the flow characteristics. It is the objective of this paper to develop an isothermal compression molding simulation that can handle both thin and thick charges and motion of the flow front, and can predict pressure distributions and accurate velocity gradients. The composites are treated as an incompressible Newtonian fluid. The effects of slip parameter $\alpha$ and extensional/shear viscosity ratio $\zeta$ on the mold filling parameters are also discussed.
Various coals from many countries around the world have been used for pulverized coal boiler in power plants in Korea. In this study, the gasification reactivities of various coal chars with $CO_2$ were investigated. Carbon conversion was measured using a real time gas analyzer with NDIR CO/$CO_2$ sensor. In a lab scale furnace, each coal sample was devolatilized at $950^{\circ}C$ in nitrogen atmosphere and became coal char and then further heated up to reach to a desired temperature. Each char was then gasified with $CO_2$ under isothermal conditions. The reactivities of coal chars were investigated at different temperatures. The shrinking core model (SCM) and volume reaction model(VRM) were used to interpret the experiment data. It was found that the SCM and VRM could describe well the experimental results within the carbon conversion of 0-0.98. The gasification rates for various coals were very different. The gasification rate for any coal increased as the volatile matter content increased.
In order to respond to environmental regulations and increased demand for fuel economy, the demand for lightweight car bodies has grown. Hydroforming of aluminum is one possible solution as it eliminates the need for additional welding to develop closed cross-sectional parts. However, the low formability of aluminum is a limitation of its application. On the other hand, the ductility of materials can be improved at higher temperatures, and hot metal gas forming has been widely applied in the production of lightweight vehicle parts. In this study, aluminum alloy for pipe extrusion was developed by controlling the Mg:Cr:Mn ratio based on AA5083. Mechanical properties of the developed material were examined by tensile test and were applied to a forming simulation. Cold forming simulation for preforming and non-isothermal hot forming simulation for hot metal gas forming were carried out to validate process conditions. A prototype of the sidemember was manufactured under the given process condition. Finally, thickness distribution was compared with finite element analysis results.

Effects of stanous catalyst on the cross-linking reaction characteristics of multi-functional fluoropolymer with blocked-hexamethylene diisocyanate(HMDI) were studied by dynamic DSC and non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results showed that cross-linking reaction occurred around $230-250^{\circ}C$ aftr the solvent and phenol, blocking agent, were removed upto the $150^{\circ}C$. It was considered that the reaction mechanism of the multi-functional fluoropolymer with HMDI might not be changed by the catalyst, however, the reaction rate became extremely faster upto to 100 times, showing the change of activation energy 81.8 kJ/mol for non-catalytic system to 61.7 kJ/mol for 1 phr catalytic system.
While many astrophysical disks are vertically stratified and obey a polytropic equation of state, most studies on gravitational instability (GI) of flattened systems consider isothermal, razor-thin disks by taking vertical averages of disk properties. We investigate local GI of rotating pressure-confined polytropic disks with resolved vertical stratification by performing linear stability analysis. We find that the GI of vertically-stratified disks is in general a combination of conventional razor-thin Jeans modes and incompressible modes. The incompressible modes that dominate in the limit of the maximal disk compression require surface distortion and are an unstable version of terrestrial water waves. Disks with a steeper equation of state are found to be more Jeans unstable because they tend to have a smaller vertical scale height as well as a steeper temperature gradient corresponding to lower pressure support. GI depends more sensitively on the vertical temperature than density distribution. The density-weighted, harmonic mean, rather than the simple mean, of the adiabatic sound speed well describes the dispersion relation of horizontal modes, and thus is appropriate in the expression for Toomre Q stability parameter of razor-thin disks. We generalize Q into vertically-stratified disks, and discuss astrophysical application of our work.

In electronics manufacturing processes, soldering process has generally been used in surface mounting technology. Because of environmental restriction, lead free solders as like a SnAgCu ternary system are being used widely. After soldering process, the formation and growth of intermetalic compounds(IMCs) are formed in the interface between solder and Cu substrate as follows isothermal temperature and time. In this studies, therefore, we investigated the effects of the Cu substrate thickness on the IMC formation and growth of Sn-40Pb/Cu and Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu/Cu solder joints, respectively. The effect of the Cu thickness in PCB Cu pad and pure Cu plate was analyzed as measuring of thickness of each IMC. After solder was soldered on PCB and Cu plate which have different Cu thickness, we measured the IMC thickness in solder joints respectively. Also we compared with the effectiveness of Cu thickness on the IMC growth. From these results, we calculated the activation energy.
The cure characteristics of three kinds of naphthalene type epoxy resins(NET-OH, NET-MA, NET-Epoxy) with a 2-methyl imidazole(2MI) catalyst were investigated for preparing sheet epoxy molding compound(SEMC) for wafer level package(WLP) applications, comparing with diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A(DGEBA) and 1,6-naphthalenediol diglycidyl ether(NE-16) epoxy resin. The cure kinetics of these systems were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry with an isothermal approach, and the kinetic parameters of all systems were reported in generalized kinetic equations with diffusion effects. The NET-OH epoxy resin represented an n-th order cure mechanism as like NE-16 and DGEBA epoxy resins, however, the NET-MA and NET-Epoxy resins showed an autocatalytic cure mechanism. The NET-OH and NET-Epoxy resins showed higher cure conversion rates than DGEBA and NE-16 epoxy resins, however, the lowest cure conversion rates can be seen in the NET-MA epoxy resin. Although the NETEpoxy and NET-MA epoxy resins represented higher cure reaction conversions comparing with DGEBA and NE-16 resins, the NET-OH showed the lowest cure reaction conversions. It can be figured out by kinetic parameter analysis that the lowest cure conversion rates of the NET-MA epoxy resin are caused by lower collision frequency factor, and the lowest cure reaction conversions of the NET-OH are due to the earlier network structures formation according to lowest critical cure conversion.
The objective of this paper is to determine the effect of process parameters on the behavior of a 18Cr-10Mn-$0.44N_2$ nitrogen steel sample deformed by hot rolling. Compression tests were carried out at high temperatures to determine the flow stresses needed for a finite element(FE) analysis. The strain rate, ranging from 0.1 to $1.0s^{-1}$, significantly affected the flow stress at temperatures higher than $1,000^{\circ}C$. Non-isothermal rolling simulations and laboratory rolling tests were performed with plate specimens 14.5mm thick, 135mm wide and 226mm long. A rolling reduction of 15% per pass leading to a cumulative rolling reduction of 60% was determined as optimal. The extension ratio of 176.5% in the length direction was about 30.4 times greater than the extension ratio of 5.8% in the width direction. Isotropic properties for tensile strength, microstructure and grain size were measured after mock-up hot rolling tests. The results from the mockup tests were found to be in good agreement with those of the simulations.
The effect of bonding misfit on single crystallization of transient liquid phase (TLP) bonded joints of single crystal superalloy CMSX-2 was investigated using MBF-80 insert metal. The bonding misfit was defined by (100) twist angle (rotating angle) at bonded interface. TLP bonding of specimens was carried out at 1523K for 1.8ks in vacuum. The post-bond heat treatment consisted of the solution and sequential two step aging treatment was conducted in the Ar atmosphere. The crystallographic orientation analysis across the TLP bonded joints was conducted three dimensionally using the electron back scattering pattern (EBSP) method. EBSP analyses f3r the bonded and post bonded heat treated specimens were conducted. All bonded joints had misorientation centering around the bonded interface for as-bonded and post-bond heat treated specimens with rotating angle. The average misorientation angle between both solid phases in bonded interlayer was almost identical to the rotating angle at bonded interface. HRTEM observation revealed that the atom arrangement of both solid phases in bonded interlayer was quite different across the bonded interface. It followed that grain boundary was formed in bonded interface. It was confirmed that epitaxial growth of the solid phase occurred from the base metal substrates during TLP bonding and single crystallization could not be achieved in joints with rotating angle.

Experimental study has been carried out on natural convection in the annuli formed by two isothermal horizontal inner and outer elliptic cylinders with uniform gap. The eccentricities of inner and outer elliptic cylinder and the gap ratio for the experimental model were 0.5078, 0.389 and 0.363 respectively. The temperature distributions were obtained through the analysis of interferograms which were taken by Mach-Zehnder interferometer in the range of Rayleigh number (Ra$_{L}$) from 0.34*10$^{4}$ to 3.07*10$^{4}$. It showed that flow was laminar when Ra$_{L}$.leg. 2.5 *10$^{4}$, while above the range of Rayleigh number we could get information on the fluctuation of interference fringe. Therefore, the upper limit of Ra$_{L}$ for the correlation equation of mean equivalent conductivity in reference(1) is confirmed. The flow pattern could be visualized by simple smoke test. The comparison of streamlines, isotherms, temperature distributions and local equivalent heat conductivity between existing numerical and present experimental results showed good agreement.ement.
