Experimental studies were conducted to investigate for the effect of Mahaengkamsuk-tang on analgesic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory, secretion of respiratory tract, isolated ileum. Mahaengkamsuk-tang was composed of Ephedrae Herba, Armenicae Semen, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Gypsum Fibrosum. The following results has been obtained; analgesic and antipyretic actions were obtained. Anti-inflammatory effects in the paw edema induced by 1% dextran was significantly shown in rats. Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed, and contractions of isolated ileum of mice induced by acetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were remarkably inhibited. Expectorant effect was shown in rabbits. Continuous hypotensive action was seen.

In order to study the effects of Goosunsan known clinically for their effects of treatment for cough and asthmas the study was carried out to investigate the effect of Goosunsan extract on the contractile force of the isolated guinea pig's vaviovs kinds smooth muscles and elucidate its mechanism The result were obtained as follows: 1. The isolated trachea & ileum smooth muscles of guinea pig was suspended in the organ bath with oxygenated kreb's Henselsite bicarbonate buffer solution at $37^{\circ}C$, and the developed tension by the drug was recorded with Isometric transducer (nacro F-60). The resting tension was approximately 0.5g. 2. The isolated trachea & ileum smooth muscles of guinea pig was remakably relaxed by the administration of Goosunsan. 3. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to histamine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan extract. 4. The contractile response of the ileum smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to histamine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan extract. 5. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to acetylcholine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan extract. 6. The contractile response of the ileum smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to acetylcholine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan. 7. The contractile response of the trachea smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan. 8. The contractile response of the ileum smooth muscle of the isolated guinea pig to 5-hydroxytryptamine 10-4 M was remakably by Goosunsan.

Woohwangchungsim-Won has been widely used for the treatment of appoplexy, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, insomnia and cerebrovascular accident, etc in oriental hospital and pharmacy. In order to investigate the efficacy of Woohwangchungsim-Won, the water extract of it were bioassayed for isolated ileum, blood vessels, blood pressure, heart and diuresis. The results of this studies were as follows; Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed, and contraction of isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pigs induced by acetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were inhibited. Vaso-dilating action due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation in frogs and rabbits, and hypotensive action in anesthetized rabbits were noted. Negative inotropic action on the isolated frog heart and diuretic effect in rabbits were shown.

Experimental studies were conducted to investigate for the effect of Tongkyu-tang on analgesic, antipyretic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, isolated ileum and anti-histamine actions. Tongkyu-Tang was composed of sixteen crude drugs including Astragali Radix, which has been used for the treatment of common cold, headache, rhinitis, nasal obstruction, rhincospasm, etc. The following results have been obtained; analgesic and antipyretic actions were obtained. Prolonged action against the hypnotic duration of pentobarbital were significantly noted in mice. Anti-inflammatory effects in the paw edema induced by 1% carrageenin and 1% dextran were significantly shown in rats. Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed, and contractions of isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pigs induced by acetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were remarkably inhibited. Antihistamine actions were noted. Considering the above experimental results, it is suggested that effects of Tongkyu-tang based on the Oriental Medical References were similarly consistent with the actual experimental results.

Experimental studies were conducted to investigate the effect of Sagan-Tang on analgesic, sedative, antipyretic, isolated ileum and blood vessel and so on. The results of this investigation were summarized as follows; Analgesic action by the acetic acid stimulating method in mice were recognized. Prolonging action against the hypnotic duration induced by thiopental-Na was noted in mice. Antipyretic effect in typhoid vaccine febrile rats was recognized. Spontaneous motility of the isolated ileum of mice was suppressed and contractions of the isolated ileum of mice and guinea-pig induced by accetylcholine chloride, barium chloride and histamine were remarkably inhibited. Vaso-diating and hypotensive actions were recognized in rabbits. GOT and GPT activities in the serum of rats damaged by $CCl_4$ and galactosamine were decreased remarkably.

Alisol B(II) and alisol B monoacetate (III) isolated from the rhizome of Alisma orientale Jazepczuk (Alismataceae) showed antagonistic effects against the contractions induced by angiotensin and bradykinin in rat ileum. However, they seem to be nonspecific antagonism.

?In order to investigate effects of Zanthoxyli Fructus (Sample-A) and Fagarae mandshuricae Fructus (Sample-B), experimental study was performed through observation on isolated - ileum analgesic, hypothermal, anti-pyretic, anti-inflammatory, capillary permeability, blood flow rate, blood pressure and respiratory works. The results were as follows; 1. In spontaneous movement of mice isolated-ileum, both samples were noted to have strong inhibitory action after temporary contraction, and to show antagonism against acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 2. Both samples were showed to have antihistamin work on guinea pig isolated-ileum 3. In analgesic work by the acetic acid method, only Fagarae mandshuricae Fructus was proved to have significant analgesic effect in mice. 4. Both sample groups indicated anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory effect. 5. Both samples were noted to have inhibitory effect against capillary permeability ?rise in mice. ?6. Both samples were noted to have dose-dependent falling effect on blood pressure in rabbits.

In order to investigate experimentally the clinical effects of Taeksa-Tang that was prescribed to cure the severe dizziness, the water extract of Taeksa-Tang was experimented about the effects on the diuretic action, the serum lipid, the isolated ileum and heart, the blood vessel, the blood pressure and respiration. The results of this study were obtained as follows: The diuretic action was significantly shown in rabbits. The level of total cholesterol, triglyceride and phopholipid in serum of rabbits given high cholesterol diet were significantly decreased. The contraction of the isolated ileum of mice induced by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride was remarkably inhibited. The vasodilating and hypotensive actions were noted in rabbits. Negative inotropic action on the isolated frog heart was recognized.

These studies were conducted to investigate the effects of Tongkwan-San water extract on analgesic, sedatative, anti-inflammatory, blood pressure and vasodilating actions, the relaxing action of isolated ileums and actions on the contact dermatitis induced by picryl chloride and on the leakage of the dye into the peritoneal cavity. The results of these studies were summarized as follows: The analgesic effect of Tongkwan-San was noted. The prolongation of anesthetic time of Tongkwan-San was recognized. Spontaneous motilities of isolated ileum of mice were strongly suppressed by Tongkwan-San. It inhibited the contractions of isolated ileum of mice induced by acetylcholine and barium chloride and the contraction of isolated ileum of guinea-pig induced by histamine. Inhibition of the contact dermatitis induced by picryl chloride was recognized. Anti-inflammatory effects in the paw edema induced by histamine and dextran were significantly shown. The leakage of dye into the peritoneal cavity in mice was significantly inhibited. Hypotensive and vasodilating action due to vascular smooth muscle relaxation were noted in rats and rabbits.
