A novel non-isolated bidirectional soft-switching SEPIC/ZETA converter with reduced ripple currents is proposed and characterized in this study. Two auxiliary switches and an inductor are added to the original bidirectional SEPIC/ZETA components to form a new direct power delivery path between input and output. The proposed converter can be operated in the forward SEPIC and reverse ZETA modes with reduced ripple currents and increased voltage gains attributed to the optimized selection of duty ratios. All switches in the proposed converter can be operated at zero-current-switching turn-on and/or turn-off through soft current commutation. Therefore, the switching and conduction losses of the proposed converter are considerably reduced compared with those of conventional bidirectional SEPIC/ZETA converters. The operation principles and characteristics of the proposed converter are analyzed in detail and verified by the simulation and experimental results.
A high boost dc-dc converter based on the switched-inductor cell (SL-cell) is suggested in this paper. The suggested converter can provide a high voltage gain that is more than 6. Moreover, the voltage gain can be easily increased by extending a SL cell or a modular voltage boost stage. This paper shows the key waveforms, the operating principles at the continuous conduction mode (CCM), and a comparison between the suggested converter and the other non-isolated converters. In addition, the extension of the suggested converter is presented. The simulation results were shown to reconfirm the theoretical analysis.
This paper describes the design and implementation of a unit module for a 10 kVA class 13.2 kV/220 V unidirectional solid-state transformer (SST) with silicon-carbide metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors. The proposed module consists of an active-front-end (AFE) converter to interface 1320 V AC voltage source to 2500 V DC link and an isolated resonant DC-DC converter for 500 V low-voltage DC output. The design approaches of the AFE and the isolated resonant DC-DC converters are addressed. The control structures of the converters are described as well. The experiments for the converters are performed, and results verify that the proposed unit module can be successfully adopted for the entire SST operation.
In this paper, an alternative non-isolated DC-DC converter with a high voltage boosting capability is proposed. Two inductors are used and one of them has its flux linkage increases during its charging period to achieve a high step-up voltage gain. Among the three integrated capacitors, one portrays the partial characteristic of the switched-capacitor technique, while the other two are connected in series across the load. With the two switches controlled using the same duty cycle, the proposed topology demonstrates the merits of a higher and wider range of step-up voltage gain when compared with recent topologies. In addition, a reduction in loss is induced and a higher efficiency is ensured with all the voltage stresses constrained within the output voltage. Operation of the proposed converter is analyzed and validated through experimental results obtained with a prototype.
This paper proposes a single-phase non-isolated onboard battery charger (OBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) that only uses small film capacitors at the DC-link of the AC-DC converter. In the proposed charger, an isolated DC-DC converter for low-voltage batteries is used as an active power decoupling (APD) circuit to absorb the ripple power when a high-voltage (HV) battery is charged. As a result, the DC-link capacitance in the AC-DC converter of the HV charging circuit can be significantly reduced without requiring any additional devices. In addition, some of the components of the proposed circuit are shared in common for the different operating modes among the AC-DC converter, LV charging circuit and active power filter. Therefore, the cost and volume of the onboard battery charger can be reduced. The effectiveness of the proposed topology has been verified by the simulation and experimental results.

A novel zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) isolated PWM boost converter for single stage power factor correction (PFC) is presented to improve the performance of the previously presented ZVT converter[8]. A simple auxiliary circuit which includes only one active switch provides zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) condition to all semiconductor devices. (Two active switches are required for the previous ZVT converter) This leads to reduced cost and simplified control circuit comparing to the previous ZVT converter. The ZVS is achieved for wide line and load ranges with minimum device voltage and current stresses. Operation principle, control strategy and features of the proposed converter are presented and verified by the experimental results from a 1.5 kW, 100 KHz laboratory prototype.
This paper deals with transformer turns ratio design with the consideration of loss minimization in isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter. Generally, the rms value of current, magnitude of current at switching instance, and duty ratio of a converter vary according to the turns ratio of an isolation transformer in the converter under the same voltages and output power level. Therefore, the transformer turns ratio has an effect on the total loss in a converter. The switching and conduction losses of IGBTs and MOSFETs consisting of dual-active bridge converter are analyzed, and iron and copper losses in an isolation transformer and inductor are calculated. Total losses are calculated and measured in cases of four different transformer turns ratios through simulation and experiment with 3-kW converter, and an optimum turns ratio that provides minimum losses is found. The usefulness of the proposed transformer turns ratio design approach is verified through simulation and experimental results.
In this paper, a high reliability 30W DC-DC converter is designed considering military standard (MIL-STD) for military applications such as guided weapon and aircraft. The performances and specifications of conventional military grade DC-DC converter are practically analyzed. The requirements for military grade DC-DC converter are established in consideration of MIL-STD and analysis results of conventional product. Two isolated DC-DC converter, forward and fly-back converter, are designed and compared to determine topology. From experimental results under various operating conditions, the forward topology satisfied performances and specifications of MIL-STD for military DC-DC converter.

Differential power processing (DPP) systems are among the most effective architectures for photovoltaic (PV) power systems because they are highly efficient as a result of their distributed local maximum power point tracking ability, which allows the fractional processing of the total generated power. However, DPP systems require a high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional converter with broad operating ranges and galvanic isolation. This study proposes a single, magnetic, high-efficiency, high step-up/down bidirectional DC-DC converter. The proposed converter is composed of a bidirectional flyback and a bidirectional isolated switched-capacitor cell, which are competitively cheap. The output terminals of the flyback converter and switched-capacitor cell are connected in series to obtain the voltage step-up. In the reverse power flow, the converter reciprocally operates with high efficiency across a broad operating range because it uses hard switching instead of soft switching. The proposed topology achieves a genuine on-off interleaved energy transfer at the transformer core and windings, thus providing an excellent utilization ratio. The dynamic characteristics of the converter are analyzed for the controller design. Finally, a 240 W hardware prototype is constructed to demonstrate the operation of the bidirectional converter under a current feedback control loop. To improve the efficiency of a PV system, the maximum power point tracking method is applied to the proposed converter.
