As a section insulator dividing the electric railroad catenaries with different phases, the AC/DC section insulator which divides AC and DC railroad catenary have the complex structure, and suffer irregular abrasion on the surface or insulator rods when it is installed at the underground railroad. This paper intended as an investigation of the irregular abrasion of section insulators, provides the field measurements of abrasion level along insulator length and the abrasion patterns. The height variation of insulator parts and the balding length of insulators against pantograph's contact force are analysed experimentally, and the irregular abrasion mechanism is clarified with the help of theoretical analysis on the interaction between pantographs and section insulators. On the basis of experimental and theoretical analysis, the countermeasures to reduce the irregular abrasion are provided too.
Abrasion tests of an SBR compound were conducted using four different types of abrasion testers (cut and chip, Lambourn, DIN, and LAT100). The abrasion test results were analyzed in terms of size distributions and morphologies of the wear particles. Most wear particles were larger than 1000 ㎛. The wear particle size distributions tended to decrease as the particle size decreased. Except for the Lambourn abrasion test, the wear particles smaller than 212 ㎛ were rarely generated by the other three abrasion tests, implying that small wear particles were produced through friction by introducing talc powder. Shapes of the wear particles varied depending on the abrasion testers. The wear particles generated from the Lambourn abrasion tester had stick-like shapes. The cut and chip abrasion test showed a clear abrasion pattern, but the DIN abrasion test did not show any specific abrasion pattern. The Lambourn and LAT100 abrasion tests showed irregular abrasion patterns.
It is important to prevent roll failure in hot rolling process for reducing maintenance cost and production loss. The relationship between rolling pass schedule and the work roll wear profile will be presented. The roll wear pattern is related with roll catastrophic failure. The irregular and deep roll wear pattern should be removed by On-line Roll Grinder(ORG) for roll failure prevention. In this study, a computer roll wear prediction model under real process working condition is developed and evaluated with hot rolling pass schedule. The method of building wear calculation functions for center portion abrasion and marginal abrasion respectively was used to develop a work roll wear prediction mathematical model. The three type rolling schedule are evaluated by wear prediction model. The optimum roll grinding methods is suggested for schedule tree rolling technique.

According to extensive use of composite resin which have superior esthetic property, every effort on improving bonding strength between a tooth and composite resin has been continued. Acid etching technique is a method that micro-etches the tooth surface which provides bonding with composite resin possible. Recently, there were several reports that mechanical treatment obtained from air-abrasion can provide similar bonding strength with acid etching technique. So, this experimental study was designed to compare the shear bonding strength between using air-abrasion technique and using acid etching technique. Initially, bovine teeth were divided into enamel and dentin experimental groups. Respectively each group was categorized into three subgroups. One subgroup was acid etched with 35% phosphoric acid, then bonded with composite resin. The other subgroup was air-abraded with $50{\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ particles sprayed with 160psi air pressure using air abrasion unit(KCP-1000, A.D.T., U.SA), and composite resin was bonded. In another subgroup, composite resin was bonded after acid etching following air-abrasion. So, enamel experimental groups were made of E1 (acid etched only), E2(air-abraded only), E3(acid etched following air-abraded), and dentin experimental groups were made of D1(acid etched only), D2(air-abraded only), D3(acid etched following air-abraded). Each subgroup had 10 specimens. Dentin bonding system(Scotchbond Multi-purpose, 3M Co., U.S.A.) and composite resin(Z-100, 3M Co., U.S.A.) were applied on treated surface using 5mm diameter gelatin capsule as manufacturer's direction. After 1200 times thermocycling between $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$, shear bond strength was measured in 5mm/min crosshead speed with Instron(Instron Co., U.S.A.), and also treated enamel and dentin were observed with SEM(JEOL Co., Japan). The following results were obtained: 1. In the enamel experimental groups, acid etched following air-abraded group had highest shear bond strength, but there was no significant difference compared to acid etched group. Air-abraded only group had lowest shear bond strength, and there was significant difference compared to the rest of groups. 2. In the dentin experimental groups, acid etched following air-abraded group had highest shear bond strength, but there was no significant difference compared to acid etched group. Air-abraded only group had lowest shear bond strength, and there was significant difference compared to the rest of groups. 3. In the SEM study, air-abraded enamel and dentin had irregular and rough surfaces.

This study deals with coal-mine waste (CMW) for use in concrete as a replacement of normal aggregates. The CMW was collected from Sabuk region. Ganwon-do. Fine and coarse aggregates from CMW were prepared by using a crusher and separating debris with #4 sieve. CMW aggregates showed good physical and mechanical properties with having specific gravity over 2.65, absorption less than 1%, and abrasion ratio below 20%. However, particle shape of CMW was poor because of non-isotropic nature of matrix which cause particles to be long or flat. Since irregular particles caused a poor workability, to make workability better, a 1/4 of coarse aggregate was replaced with normal aggregate together with a superplasticizer. Compressive strength and other mechanical properties of CMW concrete were very good. Color of the concrete was darker than normal concrete due to black color of CMW. In conclusion, characteristics of CMW concrete was acceptable for use as a structural concrete material.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the abrasion resistance of surface penetrating sealant which was applied on a composite resin restoration and to provide proper time to reapply sealant on composite resin surface. Two hundred rectangular specimens, sized $8\times3\times2mm$, were made of Micronew (Bisco, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, U.S.A) and divided into two groups; F group (n = 10) was finished with coarse and medium grit of Sof-Lex discs and BisCoverwas applied B group (n = 190) after finishing with discs. B group was again subdivided into nineteen subgroups From B-1 group to B-18 group were subjected to toothbrush abrasion test using a distilled water-dentifrice slurry and toothbrush heads B-IM group was not subjected to toothbrush abrasion test. Average surface roughness (Ra) of each group was calculated using a surface roughness tester (Surfcorder MSE-1700: Kosaka Laboratory Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) . A representative specimen of each group was examined by FE-SEM (S-4700: Hitachi High Technologies Co., Tokyo, Japan). The data were analysed using cluster analysis, paired t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Ra off group was $0.898{\pm}0.145{\mu}m$ and B-IM group was $0.289{\pm}0.142{\mu}m$. Ra became higher from B-1 group $(0.299{\pm}0.48{\mu}m$ to B-18 group $(0.642{\pm}0.313{\mu}m$. 2. Final cluster center of Ra was $0.361{\mu}m$ in cluster 1 $(B-IM\simB-7)$, $0.511{\mu}m$ in cluster 2 $(B-8\simB-14)$ and $0.624{\mu}m$ in cluster 3 ($(B-15\simB-18)$. There were significant difference among Ra of three clusters. 3 Ra of B-IM group was decreased 210.72% than Ra of F group. Ra of B-8 group and B-15 group was increased 35.49% and 51.35% respectively than Ra of B-IM group. 4. On FE-SEM, B-IM group showed the smoothest resin surface. B-8 group and B-15 group showed vertically shallow scratches , and wide and irregular vertical scratches on composite resin surface respectively. Within a limitation of this study, finished resin surface will be again smooth and glazy if BisCover would be reapplied within 8 to 14 months after applying to resin surface.

The occlusal force of the tooth leads to loss of tooth tissue owing to attrition and abrasion, and may cause abfraction and pathological change of the dentin. Thus, we developed finite element models, examined them by applying ordinary occlusal force, and analyzed the stress distribution. Specimens used were mandibular first premolars from 15 Korean males and 13 females and were made into finite element models from medical images that were obtained using a Micro-CT. We have found that the irregular feature of the tooth is not only useful to masticating and pronouncing as well known, but it is also suitable for protecting inner tissue by dispersing stress and delivering proper pressure to periodontal tissue to continue a physiological action. Also, image analysis could let us know the factor that is the cause of a disorder due to stress concentration in the cervical line. These results are expected to support the field of dental treatment planning, operating procedure and clinical trial, and the advance of technical expertise to develop implants and dentures.

Anodic oxidation treatment of metals is one of typical surface finishing methods which has been used for improving surface appearance, bioactivity, adhesion with paints and the resistances to corrosion and/or abrasion. This article provides fundamental principle, type and characteristics of the anodic oxidation treatment methods, including anodizing method and plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method. The anodic oxidation can form thick oxide films on the metal surface by electrochemical reactions under the application of electric current and voltage between the working electrode and auxiliary electrode. The anodic oxide films are classified into two types of barrier type and porous type. The porous anodic oxide films include a porous anodizing film containing regular pores, nanotubes and PEO films containing irregular pores with different sizes and shapes. Thickness and defect density of the anodic oxide films are important factors which affect the corrosion resistance of metals. The anodic oxide film thickness is limited by how fast ions can migrate through the anodic oxide film. Defect density in the anodic oxide film is dependent upon alloying elements and second-phase particles in the alloys. In this article, the principle and mechanisms of formation and growth of anodic oxide films on metals are described.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of four surface treatment methods to improve zirconia roughness and three types of resin cement on the shear bond strength (SBS). Materials and methods: A total of 120 zirconia blocks were randomly divided into four surface treatments: non-treatment (Control), airborne-particle abrasion (APA) with 50 ㎛ Al2O3 (APA50), APA with 125 ㎛ Al2O3 (APA125), and ZrO2 slurry (ZA). Three resin cements (Panavia F 2.0, Superbond C&B, and Variolink N) were applied to the surface-treated zirconia specimens. All specimens were subjected to SBS testing using a universal testing machine. The surface of the representative specimens of each group was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). SBS data were analyzed with oneway ANOVA, two-way ANOVA test and post-hoc Tukey HSD Test (α=.05). Results: In the surface treatment method, APA125, APA50, ZA, and Control showed high shear bond strength in order, but there was no significant difference between APA125 and APA50 (P>.05). Also, ZA showed significantly higher shear bond strength than Control (P<.05). In the resin cement type, Panavia F 2.0, Superbond C&B, and Variolink N showed significantly higher shear bond strength in order (P<.05). In SEM images, the zirconia surfaces of the APA50 and APA125 showed quite rough and irregular shapes, and the zirconia surface of the ZA was observed small irregular porosity and rough surfaces. Conclusion: APA and ZrO2 slurry were enhanced the surface roughness of zirconia, and Panavia F 2.0 containing MDP showed the highest shear bond strength with zirconia.
The changes of microstructures, morphology of sclerotic dentin and bonding aspects generated by an adhesive resin was investigated. Incisors and premolars showing natural cervical abrasions were collected and conditioned with 10 % phosphoric acid or 10 % maleic acid. The sclerotic dentin specimens were then rinsed and blot-dried and applied with dentin adhesive (All Bond 2) to the conditioned dentin surface. To examine the morphologic change of the sclerotic dentin specimen after etching and bonding procedure, the treated specimens were examined by SEM. To analyze the chemical composition of sclerotic dentin and crystals occluding dentinal tubules, the sclerotic dentin specimen was powdered and examined with X-ray Diffractometer. To investigate the Ca/P weight percent ratio within the dentinal tubules, the sclerotic dentin specimen was fractured perpendicularly to the long axis of the tooth from the center of cervical abrasion lesion and then examined with EDX(Energy Dispersive X-ray) microanalyzer. The results were as follows : 1. The increased width of peritubular dentin and the depositions of the irregular amorphous materials within the dentinal tubules were showed in the sclerotic dentin specimens. 2. After the treatment of sclerotic dentin specimen with 10 % phosphoric acid or 10 % maleic acid, the lateral side of tubules rather than cross-sectional tubule openings was showed exclusively at the incisal and gingival incline of the specimens. 3. After the treatment of sclerotic dentin specimen with 10 % phosphoric acid or 10 % maleic acid, the hybrid layer was not formed evidently and the resin tag was not formed or shortly penetrated into the tubules with the thinner diameter. 4. According to the results of XRD analysis of the sclerotic dentin specimen, Hydroxyapatite and Octacalcium phosphate were predominent, however, Whitlockite crystals were rare. 5. The mean Ca/P weight percent ratio analysed from 5 fractured sclerotic dentin specimens was $2.322{\pm}0.170$ at the intertubular dentin, $1.826{\pm}0.051$ within the dentinal tubule.
