Case hardening of tool steel(SK5) was investigated after YAG laser irradiation. In the case of beam passes, martensite formed in the melt zone and in former pearlite regions of the austenization zone exhibited very high Vickers Hardness values. The molten depth and radius, micro structure, hardness were investigated as a function of defocusing distance, pulse width, and power density.
Bovine mastitis is an important disease causing serious economic loss in dairy production and food poison in public health. The major causative agents of bovine mastitis include Escherichia coli (E. coli), Streptococcus agalactiae (S. agalactiae), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). These bacteria were found in milk and environmental condition such as feces, water, soil and so on. Recently, many cases of mastitis are derived from environmental contamination of micro-organisms, which important factors for the spread of this disease in farm. Ultraviolet irradiation (UV) has been used as disinfection for waste and water in clinical and industrial facilities. Moreover the UV irradiation has been used as useful bactericidal agents to remove bacterial biofilms in environmental condition. In this study, we determined the bacterial replication in different percentage of water content (PWC) in sterilized saw dust and feces complexes from farm, and results showed that slightly decreased growth pattern of E. coli and S. agalactiae but increased growth pattern of S. aureus in various PWC (200, 400 and 600%) until 144 h incubation. In the bacteriocidal effect of UV irradiation to bacteria in saw dust and feces complex, the results showed that bacteriocidal effect was depended on the UV irradiation time, irradiation distance and PWC. Especially the antibacterial activity of UV irratiation is stronger in low PWC (50%), long time irradiation (50 sec), and short distance (5 cm) than other condition of this study. Furthermore UV irradiation with stirring showed increased the bactericidal effect compared without stirring. These results suggested that bovine mastitis causing agents may survive long time in environmental condition especially saw dust and feces complexes in farm and can cause a various disease including mastitis. Moreover, these data can be used as basis for application and development of UV disinfection to control of bovine mastitis from environmental contaminated bacteria in dairy farm.
This paper presents a low temperature excimer-laser-crystallization that produces directionally solidified microstructure in Si thin films. The process involves (1) a complete melting of selected area via irradiation through a patterned mask. and (2) a precisely controlled pulse translation of the sample with respect to the mask over a distance shorter than the superlateral growth(SLG) distance. (3) lateral growth extended over a number of iterative steps. Grains that grow continuously to the vertical direction were demonstrated. We discuss sequential lateral solidification principle, experiment.
This study was intended to evaluate the surface dose and depth dose of according to the distance of the treatment room wall. High energy photon beams from linear accelerators produce large scattered radiation by various components of the treatment head, collimator and walls or objects in the treatment room including the patient. The scattered radiation measured by thermoluminescence dosimeter(TLD). Linear accelerators rotation center of the four walls(X) distance was measured to be 236, 272, 303, and 337 cm. The result of 100 cGy and 200 cGy of 6 MV photon irradiation, surface dose was 0.49, 0.83 mSv at 236 cm of the shortest distance to the wall, In 272 cm 0.41, 0.53 mSv, 303 cm in the 0.28, 0.57 mSv, and 337 cm distance from the wall in the 0.33, 0.76 mSv surface dose respectively. There was remarkable difference in the surface dose among the treatment room wall distance. The results of useful data in relation to stochastic effect for radiation therapy patients.
We have constructed a line-by-line model of the A-X system of CO in order to analyze the CO bands appearing in the UV spectra of comets. The model includes electronic, rotational, vibrational transitions, excitations by solar UV radiation, and effects of neutral and electron collisions. The major bands of the A-X system occur in the $1200 - 1800{\AA}$ range where the temporal variation of solar irradiation is significant. The solar spectrum in this spectral range shows many emission lines, which cause a significant Swings effect. We derived fluorescence efficiencies of the bands as functions of heliocentric velocity and cometocentric distance using a high resolution spectrum of the sun. We compared our model with a spectrum of comet P/Halley obtained with the IUE, and estimated that the UV Swings effects are less than 20 fluorescence efficiencies for the most bands of the A-X system. We discuss the temporal variation of solar UV irradiation and its effects on the fluorescence efficiencies. The study of the A-X system also requites knowledge of vibrational and rotational fluorescent processes in the infrared and radio regions because the majority of CO molecules in the coma is in the ground rotational states. The solar infrared spectrum near 5 microns, where the fundamental band of CO occurs, contains strong absorption lines of the fundamental band and hot bands of CO and its isotopes. We derived fluorescence efficiencies of the infrared band as functions of heliocentric velocity and cometrocentric distance. The solar absorption lines near 5 microns cause a 20 reduction of the g-factor of the fundamental band at heliocentric velocities close to 0 km/sec. We discuss the effects of neutral and electron collisions on the fluorescence efficiencies of the infrared and UV bands.
Related institutions that use radiation are diverse in Korea, such as research, medical care, and education. Recently, the number of examinations and visits to medical institutions is increasing. As a result, the number of radiological examinations in medical institutions is increasing. Radiation safety management is necessary as well as exposure of radiation workers. For safety management, first of all, it is necessary to wear the personal exposure dosimeter correctly and measure it accurately after wearing it. This study tries to evaluate and verify the measurement straightness of PLD devices by radiation of a diagnostic generator. Radiation division irradiation time interval was measured after irradiating 10 times at 10, 30, and 60 sec and irradiating the irradiation distance from 30 to 100 cm at 10 cm intervals to measure the change in absorbed dose depending on the distance. As a result, there was no difference in absorbed dose by time interval. This is considered to be helpful in various studies by using a diagnostic generator for the study of high absorbed dose.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Nd:YAG laser irradiation for sensory nerve conduction change. Nd:YAG laser was irradiated to mental region for 5 minutes with the parameters that 10 Hz and 20 Hz of 100 mJ/pulse. Target size of irradiation was 30 mm diameter of circle and target-tip distance was about 10 mm. Therefore, the power density were 212 $mW/cm^2$ and 424 $mW/cm^2$. Sensory nerve conduction was evaluated with $Neurometer^{\circled}$ CPT/C before and after Nd:YAG laser irradiation. As an outcomes, the current perception threshold(CPT) and pain tolerance threshold(PTT) were obtained. We made a comparison of these two values and the results were as follows. 1. There was no significant difference in CPT at 1W, 10 Hz and 2 W, 20 Hz Nd:YAG laser irradiation. 2. There was no significant difference in PTT at 10 Hz, 20 Hz of 100 mJ/pulse Nd:YAG laser. 3. There were no significant differences in CPT and PTT between 1 W, 10 Hz group and 2 W, 20 Hz group. Therefore, We can make a conclusion that Nd:YAG laser irradiation to mental region have no effect on mental nerve conduction in our study model.
Effects of surface defect distribution on flame instability during flame-surface interaction are experimentally investigated. To examine the chemical quenching phenomenon, we prepared thermally grown silicon oxide plates with well-defined defect density. Ion implantation was used to control the number of defects, i.e. oxygen vacancies. In an attempt to preferentially remove the oxygen atoms from silicon dioxide surface, argon ions with low energy level from 3keV to 5keV were irradiated at the incident angle of $60^{\circ}C$. Compositional and structural modification of $SiO_2$ induced by low-energy $Ar^+$ ion irradiation has been characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The analysis shows that as the ion energy increases, the number of structural defect also increases and non-stoichiometric condition of $SiO_x(x{\le}2)$ plates is enhanced. From the quenching distance measurements, we found out that when the surface temperature is under $300^{\circ}C$, the quenching distance decreases on account of reduced heat loss; as the surface temperature increases over $300^{\circ}C$, however, quenching distance increases despite reduced heat loss effect. Such aberrant behavior is caused by heterogeneous chemical reaction between active radicals and surface defect sites. The higher defect density, the larger quenching distance. This results means that chemical quenching is governed by radical adsorption and can be parameterized by the oxygen vacancy density on the surface.
General physical properties and radiation durabilities of some domestic woods and imported lauans were measured and discussed as a preliminary study on the preparation of W. P. C. The data obtained indicate that 1) the hardness of wood is generally proportional to the specific gravity and to the bending strength, 2) the hardness of wood measured in tangential direction to the annual ring increases along with the distance from the center of the annual ring to the peel, 3) the changes of specific gravity under 100 Mrad gamma irradiation are not remarkable, 4) the hardnesses of the soft woods are decreased more -readily than those of the hard woods, but the decreases of hardnesses are not extreme upto 10 Mrad sugges ting that the woods are sufficiently durable to gamma irradiation of below 10 Mard in the preparation of W. P. C.

We investigated sterilization characteristics of UV lights by counting the number of bacteria units with varying sterilization time and distance from the light source. We focused on an idea that UV light of 184.9 nm could generate ozone and developed a new sterilizer. The UV-ozone duplex system sterilized bacteria faster than UV-only sterilizers. To reduce shadowing effects by target objects, we used UV transparent quartz plate as a support and put a reflecting plate. Distribution of UV irradiation intensity and ozone supply were analyzed by a 3D model and measured by a semiconductor UV sensor. But even with an Al reflector, multi-layered pens could not be treated properly from UV irradiation only. Ozone generating lamp could treat more uniformly multi-layered pens with a stirring fan by supplying ozone to shadowed surfaces.
