This paper aims to assess the applicability of the Runge Kutta Discontinuous Galerkin-Direct Ghost Fluid Method to the internal explosion inside a water-filled tube, which previously was studied by many researchers in separate works. Once the explosive charge located at the inner center of the water-filled tube explodes, the tube wall is subjected to an extremely high intensity fluid loading and deformed. The deformation causes a modification of the field of fluid flow in the region near the water-structure interface so that has substantial influence on the response of the structure. To connect the structure and the fluid, valid data exchanges along the interface are essential. Classical fluid structure interaction simulations usually employ a matched meshing scheme which discretizes the fluid and structure domains using a single mesh density. The computational cost of fluid structure interaction simulations is usually governed by the structure because the size of time step may be determined by the density of structure mesh. The finer mesh density, the better solution, but more expensive computational cost. To reduce such computational cost, a non-matched meshing scheme which allows for different mesh densities is employed. The coupled numerical approach of this paper has fewer difficulties in the implementation and computation, compared to gas dynamics based approach which requires complicated analytical manipulations. It can also be applied to wider compressible, inviscid fluid flow analyses often found in underwater explosion events.
This paper studies the forced vibration of the hydro-elastic system consisting of the anisotropic (orthotropic) plate, compressible viscous fluid and rigid wall within the scope of the exact equations and relations of elastodynamics for anisotropic bodies for describing of the plate motion, and with utilizing the linearized exact Navier-Stokes equations for describing of the fluid flow. For solution of the corresponding boundary value problem it is employed time-harmonic presentation of the sought values with respect to time and the Fourier transform with respect to the space coordinate on the coordinate axis directed along the plate length. Numerical results on the pressure acting on the interface plane between the plate and fluid are presented and discussed. The main aim in this discussion is focused on the study of the influence of the plate material anisotropy on the frequency response of the mentioned pressure. In particular, it is established that under fixed values of the shear modulus of the plate material a decrease in the values of the modulus of elasticity of the plate material in the direction of plate length causes to increase of the absolute values of the interface pressure. The numerical results are presented not only for the viscous fluid case but also for the inviscid fluid case.

In this study, morphological and hydrodynamic characteristics of the non-axisymmetric supercavity generated behind a disk-shaped cavitator were examined. By extending the previous study on axisymmetric supercavitating flow based on a boundary element method, hydrodynamic forces acting under the angle of attack condition of 0 to 30 ° and shape characteristics of the supercavity were analyzed. The results revealed that increasing the angle of attack by 30 ° reduced the length and width of the cavity by about 15% and the volume by about 40 %. An empirical formula that can quantitatively estimate the geometrical characteristics and change of the cavity was derived. It is expected that this method can be used to evaluate the shape information and force characteristics of the supercavity for the control of the vehicle in a very short time compared to the viscous analysis in the initial design stage of the supercavity underwater vehicle.
A high resolution numerical method aimed at solving cavitating flow was proposed and applied to gas-liquid two-phase shock tube problem with arbitrary void fraction. The present method with compressibility effects employs a finite-difference 4th-order Runge-Kutta method and Roe's flux difference splitting approximation with the MUSCL TVD scheme. The Jacobian matrix from the inviscid flux of constitute equation is diagonalized analytically and the speed of sound for the two-phase media is derived by eigenvalues. So that the present method is appropriate for the extension of high order upwind schemes based on the characteristic theory. By this method, a Riemann problem for Euler equations of one dimensional shock tube was computed. Numerical results of high speed flow phenomena such as detailed observations of shock and expansion wave propagations through the gas-liquid two-phase media and some data related to computational efficiency are made. Comparisons of predicted results and solutions at isothermal condition are provided and discussed.
Centrifugal fans are widely used and the noise generated by these machines causes one of the most serious problems. In general, the centrifugal fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and its higher harmonics. This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the flow discharged from the impeller and the cutoff in the casing. However, only a few researches have been carried out on predicting the noise due to the difficulty in obtaining detailed information about the flow field and casing effects on noise radiation. The objective of this study is to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan and to calculate the effects of rotating velocity, flow rate, cut-off distance and the number of blades and its effects on the noise of the fan. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field around the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method (DVM) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated with the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic source. The cut-off distance is the most important factor effecting the noise generation. Acoustic pressure is proportional to 2.8, which shows the same scaling index as the experimental result. In this paper, the cut-off distance is found to be the dominant parameter offecting the acoustic pressure.

Several notes on ground effects drawn from Navier-Stokes analyses and their aerodynamic interpretations were addressed here; For two-dimensional ground effect, the change of surface pressure due to image vortex, the venturi effect due to thickness and the primary inviscid flow phenomena of ground effect, and for three-dimensional ground effect, strengthened wing tip vortices, increased effective span and the outward drift of trailing vortices. Irodov's criteria were evaluated to investigate the static longitudinal stability of conventional NACA 6409 and DHMTU 8-30 airfoils. The analysis results demonstrated superior static longitudinal stability of DHMTU 8-30 airfoil. The DHMTU airfoil has quite lower value of lrodov's criterion than the conventional NACA airfoil, which require much smaller tail volume to stabilize the whole WIG-craft at its design stage.
The Ranking source panel method was used to predict the flow phenomenon of a ship with a goose-neck type bulbous bow penetrating the free surface. The non-linearity of the free surface boundary condition was fully satisfied using an iterative calculation method, and the raised panel method was adopted to obtain a more stable solution at each iteration step. The panel cutting method was applied to generate a hull calculation grid at each iteration step, including the first step. At that time, the nose of the goose-neck type bulbous bow was divided by the free surface and the free surface panel was modified at each iteration step using the variable free surface panel method. Numerical calculations were performed to investigate the validity and efficiency of the applied numerical algorithm using the 3600 TEU container carrier. The computed wave resistance coefficients were compared with the experimentally achieved residual resistance coefficients.
In order to provide simple and accurate wave theory in design of offshore structure, an analytical approximation is introduced in this paper. The solution is limited to flat bottom having a constant water depth. Water is considered as inviscid, incompressible and irrotational. The solution satisfies the continuity equation, bottom boundary condition and non-linear kinematic free surface boundary condition exactly. Error for dynamic condition is quite small. The solution is suitable in description of breaking waves. The solution is presented with closed form and dispersion relation is also presented with closed form. In the last century, there have been two main approaches to the nonlinear problems. One of these is perturbation method. Stokes wave and Cnoidal wave are based on the method. The other is numerical method. Dean's stream function theory is based on the method. In this paper, power series method was considered. The power series method can be applied to certain nonlinear differential equations (initial value problems). The series coefficients are specified by a nonlinear recurrence inherited from the differential equation. Because the non-linear wave problem is a boundary value problem, the power series method cannot be applied to the problem in general. But finite number of coefficients is necessary to describe the wave profile, truncated power series is enough. Therefore the power series method can be applied to the problem. In this case, the series coefficients are specified by a set of equations instead of recurrence. By using the set of equations, the nonlinear wave problem has been solved in this paper.

Euler codes or Navier-Stokes codes for compressible flows suffer severe degradation in convergence as Mach number approaches zero. The convergence problem arose from the wide disparity in characteristic speeds can be solved using preconditioning methods without large modifications. In this paper, a preconditioned RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) solver is developed for analysis of low Mach number flows. In order to validate the method, computational examples are chosen and the results are compared with the experimental data and the existing computed results showing a good accuracy and convergence characteristics for steady inviscid, laminar and turbulent flows at low Mach number.

A two-dimensional numerical method for inviscid two-fluid flows with a significant entrainment into both directions is established, and the oil leakage from a non-pressurized underwater pipe is studied. The interface between two fluids is modeled at a vortex sheet. The flow field and the subsequent interface evolution are solved by using the vortex-in-cell method. For longer flow simulation with a realistic two fluids interaction, an efficient merging scheme is introduced. In the Boussinesq limit, the speed of the external fluid intrusion into the pipe is very close to the existing mathematical models, and the lock exchange is observed in spite of a significant roll-up of the interface and entrainments. It is believed that the developed method can be utilized effectively for further detailed studies on various two-fluid flows which are encountered in many different marine oil spill problems.
