  • As XML becomes the standard of digital data exchange format we need to manage a lot of XML data effectively. Unlike tables in relational model XML documents are not structural. That makes it difficult to store XML documents as tables in relational model. To solve these problems there have been significant researches in relational database systems. There are two kinds of approaches: 1) One way is to decompose XML documents so that elements of XML match fields of relational tables. 2) The other one stores a whole XML document as a field of relational table. In this paper we adopted the second approach to store XML documents because sometimes it is not easy for us to decompose XML documents and in some cases their element order in documents are very meaningful. We suggest an efficient table schema to store only inverted index as tables to retrieve required data from XML data fields of relational tables and shows SQL translations that correspond to XML full-text retrievals. The functionalities of XML retrieval are based on the W3C XQuery which includes full-text retrievals. In this paper we show the superiority of our method by comparing the performances in terms of a response time and a space to store inverted index. Experiments show our approach uses less space and shows faster response times.

  • In this paper, we propose a new modification method of the look-up table in self-organizing fuzzy control using look-up table. This method has the property that look-up table is modified to have fast response property. Its principle is that the controller forces the trajectory to go into the fast respose region which the error change amount is larger than the error at initial time whenever the reference or disturbance change. Also we introduce the variable learning speed coefficient which is proportional to distance from switching curve. And to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method, we had simulation study for some examples and esecuted pole balance experiments with inverted pendulum.

  • This paper considers a networked control system (NCS) that consists of an inverted cart pendulum, a digital controller, and a controller area network (CAN) in which the actuator and sensors of the pendulum are connected to form a closed-loop system. The worst-case message response time (WCMRT) in the CAN is analyzed and the analysis results are applied to the target control system. For the case where the control system cannot satisfy the WCMRT condition and therefore time delays are inevitable, the Luck and Ray method is used to compensate the network-induced time delays. Simulations are carried out to show the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

  • A single-inverted-pendulum model is presented to simulate and predict the passive response of human balance control. This simplified biomechanical model was comprised of a torsional spring and damper, and a lump mass. An estimation of frequency response function was conducted to parameterize the complexity. The frequency domain identification method is used to identify the parameters of the model. The equivalent viscoelastic parameters of standing body were obtained and there was good conformity between the simulation and experimental result.

  • This paper proposes a robust control using a sliding mode controller and a fuzzy controller. Having the excellent transient response, the sliding mode controller has the poor steady state response, but the fuzzy controller has a good steady state reponse. A proposed controller combined these controllers has the quick response at the initial condition without the errors. The proposed robust nonlinear controller takes the advantage of the fuzzy controller and is the rapid and the stable response in conditions that the sliding mode controller keeps the errors at the steady state. The performance of proposed method is proved by simulation of the inverted pendulum.

  • In this pater, authors derive the state - space equiation about the patallel - type inverted pendulum which is adopted as control object, and constitute the control system by $H_\infty$control theory. The modeling error is unavoidably existed by linearization error, and so on. We regard this modeling error which is determined from the identification through frequency response as unstructured model uncertainty. An augmented state - space equiation with frequency weighting function is constructed for application of the $H_\infty$theory, and the mixed sensitivity problem is considered. The weighting functions are determined in consideration of the model uncertainty and the response of system in frequency region. The $H_\infty$controller is designed by using software package for controller design. From results of response simulation, the control system designed with $H_\infty$theory guarantees low sensitivity for disturbance as well as robustness against the model uncertainties.

  • The reactionary responses to control human standing dynamics were estimated under the assumption that postural complexity mainly occurs in the mid-sagittal plane. During the experiment, the subject was exposed to continuous horizontal perturbation. The ankle and hip joint rotations of the subject mainly contributed to maintaining standing postural control. The designed mobile platform generated anterior/posterior (AP) motion. Non-predictive random translation was used as input for the system. The mean acceleration generated by the platform was measured as $0.44m/s^2$. The measured data were analyzed in the frequency domain by the coherence function and the frequency response function to estimate its dynamic responses. The significant correlation found between the input and output of the postural control system. The frequency response function revealed prominent resonant peaks within its frequency spectrum and magnitude. Subjects behaved as a non-rigid two link inverted pendulum. The analyzed data are consistent with the outcome hypothesized for this study.

  • The electromagnetic suspension system, which is a kind of magnetic levitation, can be categorized into two groups; separate lift & guidance system and combined lift & guidance system. This paper deals with the latter system, in which lift and guidance forces are generated by a pair of staggered magnets with the inverted U- shaped rail. In this work, a rigid body bogie-truck and a twist response type of bogie-truck, which are constructed by two magnetic wheels consist of two staggered magnet pairs, are modeled, and curvature running characteristics of both types obtained by simulation are presented. Simulation result showed that curvature running characteristics of twist response type of bogie-truck is better than that of rigid body bogie-truck.

  • The purpose of this study is to test the typicality effects to aesthetic response according to product orientation (design-oriented vs function- oriented) and perceived purchase risk. This study overcame the limitations of existing researches which haven't had the consensus about the relationship between typicality and preference and consequently suggested the typicality effect to aesthetic response by analyzing this relationship with product orientation and perceived purchase risk. The results of this study showed the inverted U-shaped relationship in design-oriented products and no relationship in function-oriented products between typicality and preference.

  • Retaining walls have been used to prevent slope failure through resistance of earth pressure in railway, road, nuclear power plant, dam, and river infrastructure. To calculate dynamic earth pressure and determine the characteristics for seismic behavior, many researchers have analyzed the nonlinear response of ground and structure based on various numerical analyses (FLAC, PLAXIS, ABAQUS etc). In addition, seismic fragility evaluation is performed to ensure safety against earthquakes for structures. In this study, we used the FLAC2D program to understand the seismic response of the inverted T-type wall with a backfill slope, and evaluated seismic fragility based on relative horizontal displacements of the wall. Nonlinear site response analysis was performed for each site (S2 and S4) using the seven ground motions to calculate various seismic loadings reflecting site characteristics. The numerical model was validated based on other numerical models, experiment results, and generalized formula for dynamic active earth pressure. We also determined the damage state and damage index based on the height of retaining wall, and developed the seismic fragility curves. The damage probabilities of the retaining wall for the S4 site were computed to be larger than those for the S2 site.
