A Study on the Calculation Method of the Elastomeric Bearing Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) Database to Improve Reliability of Evaluation of Environmental Load of Bridges (교량의 환경부하평가 신뢰성 향상을 위한 교량용 탄성받침 전과정목록 산정방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, life cycle inventory database (LCI DB) was developed for elastomeric bearing employing life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology additionally the reliability improvement rate in the evaluation of the environmental load of the bridge was analyzed. As are result of impact assessment by 6 major impact categories, production of elastomeric bearing puts on environmental impact in the order of resource depletion, global warming, photochemical oxidant creation. and among a wide variety of input, steel plates contributes in most of the impact categories. As a result of applying the elastomeric bearing LCI database constructed in this study, the environmental loads increased by 0.53% on average, and the cut-off based on the cost of input materials increased by 11.36%. It is anticipated that it will be possible to improve the credibility and to provide data based on current production technology, such as estimating GHG emissions and evaluating environmental load, by constructing elastomeric bearing LCI DB.

Development of National Life Cycle Inventory Database on Irrigation Water by Agricultural Dam (관개용 저수지 농업용수의 국가 전과정 목록분석 데이터베이스 구축)

  • The objective of the study is to develop life cycle inventory (LCI) database of dam, a major facility for irrigation water supply. The types of database developed are three out of nine dams according to the size of the wate r storage capacity: two kinds larger than 500,000 $m^3$ depending on gate for discharging (Type 1) and the other dam smaller than 500,000 $m^3$ (Type 2). According to the LCI analysis, type 1 larger than 500,000 $m^3$ storage capacity with gate has the lowest environment impact in the 6 impact categories. The impact of the type 1 accounts for 7~35 % of the type 2 for supplying irrigation water. Comparing with the environment impacts of water for other uses such as drinking and industrial water, the impacts of 1 $m^3$ irrigation water supply is 4~45 % of the one for industrial water supply and 1~16 % of the drinking water's. The three types of LCI DB on the irrigation water by dams will be useful in the application of Life Cycle Assessment in agricultural products and environmental labelling including carbon footprint since it is complied to the guidelines of LCI DB constr uction issued by Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

  • In this research, life cycle inventory database (LCI DB) was developed for liquid CO2 employing life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. As are result of characterization and normalization process, production of liquid CO2 puts on environmental impact in the order of resource depletion, global warming, acidification, eutrophication and photochemical oxidation, and among a wide variety of input, electricity contributes in most of the impact categories. Air emission plays a key role in the acidification and eutrophication while ammonia affects most on the ozone depletion. It is anticipated that development of liquid CO2 LCI DB makes it possible for national environmental strategies to be more activated including environmental labeling scheme.

  • Due to its excessive $CO_2$ emissions, road transport sector becomes a target for emission reduction strategies. Although precise and reliable emissions inventories are necessary for evaluating plans and strategies, developing the region-wide inventory is a difficult task mainly because of a lack of data including travel patterns and modal volumes in the reginonal context. Most existing inventory methodologies employ fuel sale data within the target region, which ignores actual regional traffic patterns and thus not suited to its geographical context. To overcome these problems, this study develops region-wide $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology by utilizing the Korea Transport DB (KTDB). KTDB provides a number of useful information and data, such as road network with which one can identify in and out trips over the entire region, traffic volumes of various modes, distance of travel, travel speed and so on. A model of equations that allow the computation of volume of $CO_2$ emitting from the road transport activities within the target region is developed. Using the model, numerical analyses are performed for the case of Busan Metropolitan City to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model. This study is indeed exploratory in the sense that using the existing data, it develops the $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology which can produce better results than those from conventional fuel sales methodology. This study also suggests further reresarch directions to develop more refined methodologies in region-wide basis.

  • The construction of the transportation history database system is to serve the scheduling and seat inventory controling. Recently, lots of countries have been faced with the advance era because of the new railway transportation system, like the high speed railway and/or magnetic levitation vehicle system. This can be reasonably translated as those of operators are willing to provide the more various and high quality schedule to the customer. Those operators' these ideas make possible to forecast that scheduling process is going to be complicated more and more The seat inventory control, so to speak Yield Management System(YMS), goes a long way to improve the total passenger revenue at the railway business. The YMS forecasts the number of the last reservation value(DCP# END) and recommends the optimal values on the seat sales. The history database system contains infra-data(ie, train, seat, sales) that will be the foundation of scheduling and seat inventory control application programs. The development of the application programs are reserved to the next step. The database system is installed on the pc platform(IBM compatible), using the DB2(RDBMS). And at next step, the platform and DBMS will be considered whether they can meet the users' requirement or not.

  • 대중을 대상으로 한 과학정보의 연계체계를 구축하면서 과학분야별, 기관단체별 보유 과학대중화 자료(문헌, 영상, 음성자료)를 조사 및 목록화하고 한국과학문화재단 보유 자료를 포함한 각 기관-단체 발간 문헌자료를 디지털화 시키면서, 기존의 TEXT 위주의 DB에서 사용자가 보다 쉽고 친숙하게 정보를 이용할 수 있도록 DB를 멀티미디어화하여 구축 하므로써 기존의 TEXT 위주의RDB를 택하지 않고, ORDB를 지원하는DBMS중 개발과 운영 및 타DB와 호환이 용이한 DBMS를 도입함으로써 과학분야별로 일반인이 이해하기 쉬운 형태의 자료(텍스트 및 디지털 영상, 음성, 애니메이션, 가상실험등)를 활용한 분야 소개 정보를 구축했다.

Development, value and use of wetland inventory (습지목록의 개발, 가치 및 활용방안)

  • This study developed a wetland inventory describing the characteristics and change of Nakdong estuary wetland ecosystem. The data which are used to develop the inventory are Landsat TM(April 1, 1986; June 23, 1987; June 18, 1997), Kompsat(Jan. 12, 2008) and LiDAR(March 1, 2009) images and published monitoring data of Busan metropolitan city. The developed inventory was utilized for the classification of wetland cover, the spatiotemporal analysis of wetland and landscape pattern, the distribution of benthos species etc. Furthermore, the developed 3 dimensional wetland map showed a better way to delineate wetland boundary and understand wetland dynamics. Considering these results, it's concluded that it is possible to use the similar techniques for the development of wetland inventory in Korea.

The Effect of Cognitive and Non-cognitive Skill on Wage Performance in Early Labor Market (인지 및 비인지적 요인이 임금에 미치는 영향)

  • We examine the relationship between individual's personality trait and wage performance using administrative data collected by Korea Employment Information Service. We use Aptitude Test Battery and Five Factor Personality Inventory for individual's cognitive and noncognitive skill respectively. The results show that there are robust relationships between wages and conscientiousness, extraversion. The relationships between personality traits vary across gender. Additionally, this results imply that the return to schooling is higher for those with higher cognitive ability in early labor market.

  • Cut Slope Management System(CSMS) is a systematic maintenance and management system designed to prevent the collapse of cut slopes located along national roads. In order to implement safe road operation system, KICT has started the inventory of cut slopes and developed a cut slope database since 2006. Cut slope database management system using GIS technology and navigation system was developed as a Information Technology application. Through the Cut Slope Navigation System(SLOPE-Navi.), the previously developed database was checked and verified. The converted cut slope inventory data and field investigation data of 28,707 cut slopes were loaded on the navigation map. We consider that the Cut Slope Navigation Management System can be useful as in-situ system, which can be systematic and effective DB management and operation to prevent cut slope collapses and establish a remedial countermeasure as mitigation concerning disasters.
