  • Let $\cal{H}$ be a separable, infinite dimensional, complex Hilbert space. We call "an operator $\cal{T}$ acting on $\cal{H}$ has a star moment sequence supported on a set K" when there exist nonzero vectors u and v in $\cal{H}$ and a positive Borel measure ${\mu}$ such that <$T^{*j}T^ku$, v> = ${^\int\limits_{K}}\;{{\bar{z}}^j}\;{{\bar{z}}^k}\;d\mu$ for all j, $k\;\geq\;0$. We obtain a characterization to find a representing star moment measure and discuss some related properties.

  • In this paper, feature vectors composed of 6 features of Fourier spectrum of 2-D image at each projection angle and 7 features of invariant moments are defined. The feature are extracted by optical Fourier transformer and Radon transformer. After extracting the feature, the input pattern is recognized using the squared Mahalanobis distance.

  • In this paper efficient algorithms for content-based video retrieval using motion information are proposed, including temporal scale-invariant retrieval and temporal scale-absolute retrieval. In temporal scale-invariant video retrieval, the distance transformation is performed on each trail image in database. Then, from a given que교 trail the pixel values along the query trail are added in each distance image to compute the average distance between the trails of query image and database image, since the intensity of each pixel in distance image represents the distance from that pixel to the nearest edge pixel. For temporal scale-absolute retrieval, a new coding scheme referred to as Motion Retrieval Code is proposed. This code is designed to represent object motions in the human visual sense so that the retrieval performance can be improved. The proposed coding scheme can also achieve a fast matching, since the similarity between two motion vectors can be computed by simple bit operations. The efficiencies of the proposed methods are shown by experimental results.

  • We propose a method to estimate unknown parameters(e.g., target amplitude and clutter parameters) in the generalized likelihood ratio test(GLRT) using maximum likelihood estimation and the Newton-Raphson method. When detecting targets in a clutter environ- ment, it is important to establish a modular model of clutter similar to the actual environment. These correlated clutter models can be generated using spherically invariant random vectors. We obtain the GLRT of the generated clutter model and check its detection probability using estimated parameters.

  • Iris recognition is a biometric technology which can identify a person using the iris pattern. Recently, iris information is used in many fields such as access control and information security. It is important for the iris recognition system to extract the feature which is invariant to changes in iris patterns. Those changes can be occurred by the influence of lights, changes in the size of the pupil. In this paper, we propose a novel method based on vector summation of gradient orientation vectors. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces processing time with simple vector calculation, requires small feature space and has comparable performance to the well-known previous methods.

  • This paper discusses an index-based subsequence matching that supports time warping in large sequence databases. Time warping enables finding sequences with similar patterns even when they are of different lengths. In earlier work, we suggested an efficient method for whole matching under time warping. This method constructs a multidimensional index on a set of feature vectors, which are invariant to time warping, from data sequences. For filtering at feature space, it also applies a lower-bound function, which consistently underestimates the time warping distance as well as satisfies the triangular inequality. In this paper, we incorporate the prefix-querying approach based on sliding windows into the earlier approach. For indexing, we extract a feature vector from every subsequence inside a sliding window and construct a multi-dimensional index using a feature vector as indexing attributes. For query precessing, we perform a series of index searches using the feature vectors of qualifying query prefixes. Our approach provides effective and scalable subsequence matching even with a large volume of a database. We also prove that our approach does not incur false dismissal. To verily the superiority of our method, we perform extensive experiments. The results reseal that our method achieves significant speedup with real-world S&P 500 stock data and with very large synthetic data.

  • Most of the accidents occur due to drowsiness while driving, avoiding road signs and due to driver's distraction. Driver's distraction depends on various factors which include talking with passengers while driving, mood disorder, nervousness, anger, over-excitement, anxiety, loud music, illness, fatigue and different driver's head rotations due to change in yaw, pitch and roll angle. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. Firstly, a data set is generated for conducting different experiments on driver's distraction. Secondly, novel approaches are presented that use features based on facial points; especially the features computed using motion vectors and interpolation to detect a special type of driver's distraction, i.e., driver's head rotation due to change in yaw angle. These facial points are detected by Active Shape Model (ASM) and Boosted Regression with Markov Networks (BoRMaN). Various types of classifiers are trained and tested on different frames to decide about a driver's distraction. These approaches are also scale invariant. The results show that the approach that uses the novel ideas of motion vectors and interpolation outperforms other approaches in detection of driver's head rotation. We are able to achieve a percentage accuracy of 98.45 using Neural Network.

  • In this paper we mose a new scheme for recognition of deformed letters by extracting feature vectors based on Gibbs distributions which are well suited for representing the spatial continuity. The extracted feature vectors are comprised of 2-D conditional moments which are invariant under translation, rotation, and scale of an image. The Algorithm for pattern recognition of deformed letters contains two parts: the extraction of feature vector and the recognition process. (i) We extract feature vector which consists of an improved 2-D conditional moments on the basis of estimated conditional Gibbs distribution for an image. (ii) In the recognition phase, the minimization of the discrimination cost function for a deformed letters determines the corresponding template pattern. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, recognition experiments with a generated document was conducted. on Workstation. Experiment results reveal that the proposed scheme has high recognition rate over 96%.

  • We propose a new algorithm for pattern classification by extracting feature vectors based on Gibbs distributions which are well suited for representing the characteristic of an images. The extracted feature vectors are comprised of 2-D moments which are invariant under translation rotation, and scale of the image less sensitive to noise. This implementation contains two puts: feature extraction and pattern classification First of all, we extract feature vector which consists of an improved 2-D moments on the basis of estimated Gibbs distribution Next, in the classification phase the minimization of the discrimination cost function for a specific pattern determines the corresponding template pattern. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, classification experiments with training document sets of characters have been carried out on SUN ULTRA 10 Workstation Experiment results reveal that the proposed scheme had high classification rate over 98%.
