Interstitial free (IF) steel sheets were cold rolled by the cross-roll rolling mill in which the roll axes are tilted by ${\pm}7.5^{\circ}$ away from the transverse direction of the rolled sample. After cross-roll rolling of IF steel sheets, the cold rolling and the recrystallization textures were distinguished from those observed after rolling in a normal rolling mill. The three-dimensional finite element method (FEM) simulation revealed that the operation of a large shear strain ${\varepsilon}_{23}$ during cross-roll rolling leads to the formation of a distinct cold rolling texture. During recrystallization annealing, a pronounced change in texture components was not observed, which is attributed to the lack of either selective growth or oriented nucleation during the recrystallization process. Cold cross-roll rolling led to the formation of finer recrystallized grains in IF steel sheets.
Background: The decreased renal function is known to be associated with biological aging, of which the main pathological features are chronic inflammation and renal interstitial fibrosis. In previous studies, we reported that total saponins from Panax japonicus (SPJs) can availably protect acute myocardial ischemia. We proposed that SPJs might have similar protective effects for aging-associated renal interstitial fibrosis. Thus, in the present study, we evaluated the overall effect of SPJs on renal fibrosis. Methods: Sprague-Dawley (SD) aging rats were given SPJs by gavage beginning from 18 months old, at 10 mg/kg/d and 60 mg/kg/d, up to 24 months old. After the experiment, changes in morphology, function and fibrosis of their kidneys were detected. The levels of serum uric acid (UA), β2-microglobulin (β2-MG) and cystatin C (Cys C) were assayed with ELISA kits. The levels of extracellular matrix (ECM), matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs), inflammatory factors and changes of oxidative stress parameters were examined. Results: After SPJs treatment, SD rats showed significantly histopathological changes in kidneys accompanied by decreased renal fibrosis and increased renal function; As compared with those in 3-month group, the levels of serum UA, Cys C and β2-MG in 24-month group were significantly increased (p < 0.05). Compared with those in the 24-month group, the levels of serum UA, Cys C and β2-MG in the SPJ-H group were significantly decreased. While ECM was reduced and the levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 were increased, the levels of TIMP-1, TIMP-2 and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)/Smad signaling were decreased; the expression level of phosphorylated nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) was down-regulated with reduced inflammatory factors; meanwhile, the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2-antioxidant response element (Nrf2-ARE) signaling was aggrandized. Conclusion: These results suggest that SPJs treatment can improve age-associated renal fibrosis by inhibiting TGF-β1/Smad, NFκB signaling pathways and activating Nrf2-ARE signaling pathways and that SPJs can be a potentially valuable anti-renal fibrosis drug.
This study was performed to estimate interrelation between characteristics of sediment and nutrient releare from sediment in Dae-cheong lake. For the investigations, sediments were sampled in June and October 1997 at fish farms, embayment, and the main stream of Dae-cheong lake. Items for investigation are as follows; water content, weight loss on ignition(IG), porosity of sediment, Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen(TKN), content of element(H, N, C), nutrient release rate. Water content and porosity were measured to conjecture the physical trait and grain size. And weight loss on ignition was measured to determine the contents of organic substance. For the determination of nutrient release rate, $PO_4-P$ and $NH_4-N$ concentration of interstitial water and overlying water were measured. Release rate of nutrients which has direct influenced upon the water quality were 0.05-8.63mg-$P/m^2{\cdot}day$ and 4.99-36.56mg-$N/m^2{\cdot}day$. And it was found that release rate was measured higher in the 1st sampling than in the 2nd sampling. And for determination of the humus level of sediment, carbon and nitrogen content were measured by using elemental analyzer. Generally, C/N ratio is used to determine humus level of lake sediment. As a result of elemental analysis, C/N ratio was determined in the range of 7.64~11.55, so humus level of Dae-cheong lake sediment was estimated from mesohumic state to oligohumic state.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the mechanical property and ductile-brittle transition temperature of Ti-Nb-P added extra low carbon interstitial free steel having a tensile strength of 440 MPa. The mechanical property and transition temperature of hot rolled steel sheets were more influenced by the coiling temperature rather than by the small amount of alloying element. Further, at the same composition, the property of the specimen coiled at low temperature was superior to that obtained at higher coiling temperature. The fracture surface of 0.005C-0.2Si-1.43Mn steel coiled at $630^{\circ}C$ showed a ductile fracture mode at $-100^{\circ}C$, but coiling at $670^{\circ}C$ showed a transgranular brittle fracture mode at $-90^{\circ}C$. The galvannealed 0.006C-0.07Si-1.33Mn steel sheet annealed at $810^{\circ}C$ has tensile strength and elongation of 442.8 MPa and $36.6\%$, respectively. The transition temperature of galvannealed 0.006C-0.07Si-1.33Mn steel sheet was increased with a drawing ratio, and the transition temperature of the galvannealed 0.006C-0.07Si-1.33Mn steel was $-60^{\circ}C$ at a drawing ratio of 1.8
Conventional bake-hardenable(BH) steels should be annealed at higher temperatures because of the addition of Ti or/and Nb which forms carbides and raises recrystallization start temperature. In this study, the development of new BH steels without Ti or Nb addition has been reviewed. The new BH steels have nearly same mechanical properties as the conventional BH steels even though it is annealed at lower temperature. The steels also show smaller deviation of the mechanical properties than that of the conventional BH steels because of the conarol of solute carbon content during steel making processes. The deviation of mechanical properties in conventional BH steels is directly dependent on the deviation of solute carbon which is greatly influenced by the amount of the carbide formers in conventional BH steels. Less alloy addition in the newly developed BH steels gives economical benefits. By taking the advantage of sulfur and/or nitrogen which scarenge in Interstitial-Free or conventional BH steels, fine manganese sulfides or nano size copper sulfides were designed to precipitate, and result in refined ferrite grains. Aluminum nitrides used as a precipitation hardening element in the developed steels were also and resull in fine and well dispersed. As a result, the developed steels with less production cost and reduced deviation of mechanical properties are under commercial production. Note that the developed BH steels are registered as a brand name of MAFE(R) and/or MAF-E(R).

This study was performed to survey the general feature of reservoir sediment in Daecheong, Sapkyo and Kumkang reservoir. For investigations, sediments were sampled at four sites in Dae-Cheong and two sites in SapKyo and Kumkang in June and October. The items for investigation are as follows; water content, loss on ignition(IG), porosity of sediment, contents of element such as hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, phosphorus contents and nutrient release rates. Loss on ignition was measured to determine the contents of organic substance. And its ranges were determined 2.4~16.2% in Daecheong reservoir, 5.6~27.9% in Sapkyo and 4.8~18.7% in Kumkang reservoir. And, total phosphorus contents in sediments were measured $677{\sim}5,238{\mu}g/g$ in Daecheong, $780{\sim}1,417{\mu}g/g$ in Sapkyo and $604{\sim}1,452{\mu}g/g$ in Kumkang reservoir. And release rates of nutrients were calculated $0.05{\sim}8.63mgP/m^2day$ and $4.99{\sim}36.56mgN/m^2day$ in Daecheong, $1.83{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}3.23{\times}10^{-2}mgP/m^2day$ and $1.97{\sim}.22mgN/m^2day$ in Sapkyo, $8.31{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}6.51{\times}10^{-2}mgP/m^2day$ and $0.89{\sim}4.42mgN/m^2day$ in Kumkang reservoir, respectively. And this study attempted to determine the humus level of sediments. As a result of elemental analysis, C/N ratio was determined 3.0~13.1 in Daecheong reservoir, 6.5~13.0 in Sapkyo and 3.6~12.6 in Kumkang reservoir, respectively. From the elemental analysis, humus levels of reservoirs were changed from mesohumic to oligohumic state in all reservoirs.
This study has been performed to investigate the effect of Al addition on High Temperature Gas Nitriding (HTGN) in 13%Cr-0.16%C stainless steel with different Al contents of 0.54%, 1.76% and 2.36%, respectively. HTGN treatment was carried out at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr, 5 hrs and 10 hrs. Nitrogen-permeated surface layers showed round type carbides of $Cr_{23}C_6$ and needle type nitrides of AlN in the matrix of martensite, representing 600~700 Hv. And the thickness of the surface layer increased with increasing Al content and HTGN treatment time. The inner region that was not permeated nitrogen showed chromium carbides in the mixed phase of martensite and ferrite for the 0.53% Al alloyed steel, however chromium carbides in the matrix of ferrite single phase were shown for the steels with the addition of 1.76%Al and 2.36%Al, representing the hardness of ~200 Hv. During nitrogen permeation from surface to the interior, substitutional elements of Cr, Al and Si moved toward the surface and interstitial element of carbon also moved from interior to the surface. This movement of alloying elements leads high concentration of these elements at the outmost surface, subsequently the lowest peak of substitutional elements were shown in the vicinity of near surface. After showing the lowest peak, the high concentration region of Al and C were formed due to the continuous movement of Al toward the surface. The long discontinuous precipitates of $Cr_{23}C_6$ and AlN were formed along the outmost surface owing to the high concentration of these alloying elements.
