This study was carried out to find out factors affecting on organizational commitment of hospital physical therapists in Korea. The sample used in this study consisted of 135 physical therapists who were working in hospitals located in Seoul. The data for analysis were collected by questionnaire survey. The major statistical methods used for the analysis were factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. The dependent variable of the study was organizational commitment (responsibility of organization and propensity to stay), and the independent variables were general characteristic of respondents and components of job satisfaction - "task", "organizational operation system", "opportunity of development", "interpersonal relationship" - of hospital physical therapists. Important factors affecting the responsibility of organizational commitment were religion, work period, task satisfaction, opportunity of development. And propensity to stay was significantly affected by religion, work period, and four components of job satisfaction. In considering above findings, for improving factors affecting on organizational commitment of physical therapists, hospitals need to develop strategies for enhancing job satisfaction by providing the adequate job environment.
This study was done to suggest directions for research and interventions of health promoting behaviors in Korean older adults in the future. Thirty seven articles for health promoting behaviors in Korean older adults were reviewed and analyzed. Findings are summarized as follows: 1) The total scores of the HPLP in Korean older adults were 2.30-2.44 out of 4 points. In the subscale, the highest degree of performance is nutrition, following interpersonal support, self actualization, stress management, health responsibility and the lowest degree of performance was exercise. 2) The total scores of the Health Behavior Assessment Tool of the Korean Elders were 2.87-3.2 out of 4 points. 3) Among the characteristics of older adults, monthly pocket money, previous job had consistently significant relationships with health promoting behaviors. Sex, job and presence of disease were consistently insignificant relationships with health promoting behaviors. 4) Perceived health status, self efficacy, self esteem, family support and social support had consistently significant correlations with health promoting behaviors. 5) In regression analysis, self efficacy, family support, depression, self esteem were the most powerful predictors of health promoting behavior in more than two articles. Predictors accounted for 14.2-65.2 % of the variance in health promoting behaviors of Korean older adults. On the basis of above findings, It is necessary to develop the interventions for more regular practice of the health promoting behaviors in Korean older adults. The interventions are recommended to focus increasing the exercise & health responsibility and to use the strategies to increase self esteem, self efficacy, social support including family support.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experience of fluid management in hemodialysis patients by describing how they manage fluid intake and what affects fluid management. Methods: Purposive sampling yielded 11 patients who have received hemodialysis for one year or longer in one general hospital. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analysed using Giorgi's phenomenological method. Data collection and analysis were performed concurrently. Results: The findings regarding how hemodialysis patients manage fluid intake were classified into four constituents: 'recognizing the need for fluid control', 'observing the status of fluid accumulation', 'controlling fluid intake and output', 'getting used to fluid management'. The factors that affect fluid management of hemodialysis patients were revealed as 'willpower', 'change in the mindset', 'support system', and 'emotional state'. Conclusion: The study results show that hemodialysis patients manage fluid intake through food and exercise as well as interpersonal relationships. These findings suggest that strategies in the development of nursing interventions for hemodialysis patients should be directed at assisting them in familiarization with fluid management based on an understanding of their sociocultural contexts.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how children from low-income families perceived their family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment. The relative magnitude of effects of family strength, ego-resilience and school adjustment were compared. Data were collected from 217 children in grade 4 through 6 who were attending local child welfare centers located in Seoul, Korea. The key research findings were as follows. Ego-resilience and perceived family strength were related to school adjustment among children in poverty. The relatively greater effect of ego-resilience implied that programs for children in poverty need to focus on developing interpersonal relationship skills or coping strategies designed to enable children from disadvantaged environments to deal with stressful events and to promote their ego-resilience. Additionally, the recovery or enhancement of family strength and ego-resilience will be effective at protecting and solving various adaptive problems that children from low-income families may experience at school.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile of women college students. Methods: The sample consisted of 248 women college students in P city. Self report questionnaires were used to measure the variables. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 20.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Results: The mean score for Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile was 2.27. In the the highest subcategories, the highest degree of performance was interpersonal relationships and the lowest degree was health responsibility. Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile was significantly different according to religion (F=3.48, p=.017), economic state(F=3.01,p=.031), perceived health state(F=8.07, p<.001), exercise frequency (F=16.02, p<.001), and self-rated knowledge about health (F=21.08, p<.001). In regression of analysis, perceived health state, exercise frequency, and self-rated knowledge about health were significant predictors explaining 30.5%. Conclusion: This study suggests that perceived health state, exercise frequency, and self-rated knowledge about health are significantly influencing factors in Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile in women college students. Therefore, the strategies of nursing intervention which improve these variables must be developed for women college students.
It is important to understand the process of IT diffusion between organizations for meeting effectively IT progress and its changes. The previous studies provide, the process of IT diffusion between organizational members, organizational factors facilitating the assimilation of IT within the organization, and the organizational members' usage of communication channels in the IT adoption process. But they failed to provide comprehensively the diffusion process of IT between organizations. Therefore, an empirical research through a field survey has been performed to examine the diffusion process of RDB with 64 companies to overcome the limits of the previous studies. The purpose of this study is (1) to empirically examine the interaction of companies(prior adopters and potential adopters), (2) to look into the differences of the factors of organizational structure and the periods of RDB adoption process between OAE(Organizations Adopting Earlier) and OAL(Organizations Adopting Later), and the importance of communication channels used in IT planning stage and adoption stage, (3) to inquire into the difference of RDB performance between OAE and OAL. The results of this study indicate that there is no interaction between the prior adopters and the potential adopters. Also, there are great significant differences with regards to variables of CEO's age, CEO's concern on IT, formalization, centralization compensation systems, CIO's attitudes on changes, RDB adoption periods, performance of RDB. In addition, interpersonal channels have been much more used than mass communication channels in both IT planning stage and adoption stage. This study provides good guidelines to the companies and the vendors in shaping the strategies of IT adoption and IT diffusion respectively.
This study investigated the relationships between experiencing verbal violence and the emotional responses and coping behaviors of dental hygienists who worked in Jeonju between February 24 and March 18, 2017 to prepare strategies for managing verbal violence and establish a healthy working environment for dental hygienists. The following findings were obtained in this study. The dental hygienists primarily experienced verbal violence from patients and guardians (1.67 points). The most common verbal violence type was, "Someone treated me impolitely." The most common emotional response to verbal violence was "anger" (3.52 points). The coping style of most dental hygienists was problem-focused coping (3.28 points), followed by emotion-focused coping (2.75 points). Most hygienists with the problem-focused coping style stated that they resolve the problem through dialogue (3.51 points), while most hygienists with the emotion-focused coping style responded that they just ignore the situation (3.78 points). The relationship between experiencing verbal violence and the emotional responses and coping behaviors of dental hygienists showed a statistically significant positive correlation (p<0.05) with emotional responses and problem- and emotion-focused coping associated with experiencing verbal violence from dentists, patients, and guardians. These findings confirm the need to reduce verbal violence, control emotional responses after exposure to verbal violence, and use more problem-focused coping measures. Dental hygienists must develop interpersonal skills and communication techniques and promote professionalism in their workplace to protect themselves from verbal violence at work.

Socialization of doctoral students refers to the process through which they acquire various types of information about their work, department, university, and discipline for their future careers. This study aims to investigate information behaviors, with emphasis on identifying types of information exchanged in mentoring between faculty advisors and their doctoral students in library and information science (LIS). As a first step to developing a content framework for LIS doctoral mentoring, the author interviewed ten LIS doctoral students from nine U.S. universities. Based on data from these interviews, the author identified sixteen types of information exchanged: language, history, coursework, research, skills, teaching, networking, structure, politics, goals, strategies, values, norms/tradition, rules/policies, benefits, and personal life. In comparison with a content framework used, four dimensions were newly added. In addition to the identification of content dimensions, the author observed four meaningful contextual levels to which the content types can be applied: work, department/school, university, and discipline. The qualitative data also showed that interpersonal factors of advisees/advisors and contextual factors might relate to information exchange in doctoral mentoring. In a following paper, the author will present the results of a follow-up survey that tests and generalizes the findings of this study.
Purpose: This study examined the mediating effects of gratitude on the relationship between life stress and depression in nursing students. Methods: The participants were 181 nursing students recruited from 2 universities in B and D cities in South Korea. Baron and Kenny's regression method and the Sobel test were employed to analyze the mediating effects of gratitude on the association between life stress and depression, via the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The participants' mean depression score was 9.58, and there were significant differences in depression according to perceived interpersonal relationships and perceived physical health statue. In addition, gratitude exerted partial mediating effects on the relationship between life stress and depression. Conclusion: This study indicated gratitude as factors managing depression in nursing students. Based on the results of this study, strategies to increase nursing students' gratitude are highly recommended for management of their depression.
Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the workplace bullying experience of Korean nurses. Methods: Participants were twenty current or former hospital nurses who had experienced workplace bullying. Data were collected through focus group and individual in-depth interviews from February to May, 2015. Theoretical sampling method was applied to the point of theoretical saturation. Transcribed interview contents were analyzed using Corbin and Strauss's grounded theory method. Results: A total of 110 concepts, 48 sub-categories, and 17 categories were identified through the open coding process. As a result of axial coding based on the paradigm model, the central phenomenon of nurses' workplace bullying experience was revealed as 'teaching that has become bullying', and the core category was extracted as 'surviving in love-hate teaching' consisting of a four-step process: confronting reality, trial and error, relationship formation, and settlement. The relationship formation was considered to be the key phase to proceed to the positive settlement phase, and the participants utilized various strategies such as having an open mind, developing human relationships, understanding each other in this phase. Conclusion: The in-depth understanding of the workplace bullying experience has highlighted the importance of effective communication for cultivating desirable human relationships between nurses.
