  • While earlier research reports focused on Internet addiction among adolescents, this research examines the direct/indirect impact of socio-psychological variables like stress level, self-consciousness (self-esteem, self-control, and self-efficacy), and Internet use control on Internet addiction among adults. The fact that 62.4% of survey respondents were diagnosed as Internet addicts demonstrates that this concern about Internet addiction among adults is valid. This research, first, shows the direct impact of socio-psychological variables on Internet addiction. Low self-esteem, low self-control, high self-efficacy, high levels of stress, and high Internet-use control lead to a severe level of Internet addiction. Second, self-consciousness variables mediate the impact of stress on the addiction, but the mediating role is not so significant as the direct impact. Internet-use control plays as a partial moderator between self-esteem, self-control and addiction. Internet-use control is a useful measure for Internet addition at work. In addition, businesses may take personality, as well as environmental conditions, and organizational management process into account to minimize the impact of the addiction.

In addition to a traditional view of risk, importance of risk in online transactions such as Internet banking is due to technical instability in security of the Internet as well as temporal and spatial separation of transaction partners. Therefore, risk in online transactions should be analyzed by a very comprehensive way since it is very inherent in the Internet. The objective of this study is to suggest a research model for explaining the use of online transactions in some risk related variables including risk results, security result, perceived security, and social influence and show its validity by applying it to Internet banking users. In result, hypotheses suggested by our research model are shown to be valid ones.

  • In the case of a weak self-control youth, young students easily tend to fall into addiction by using the Internet as a sensation seeking and an alternative to escape the reality. Until now, internet addiction self-diagnosis techniques such as Internet addiction scale have been developed and used to solve this kind of internet addiction issue. However, traditional methods do not assess the correlation of addiction and the effects of the environment systematically because they are simply composed of redundant addiction scale criteria and questionnaire forms of the diagnostic methods. Thus, in this paper, we propose a new internet addiction self-diagnosis technique based on Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) and implement a self-diagnosis system in order to make a systematic internet addiction self-diagnosis system. In addition, we analyze the correlation of the measured data based on different perspectives such as home environment, family relationships, peer relationships, school life, and so on.

As Internet users become much younger than before, Internet addiction is salient even among elementary school students. In addition, it is necessary to use a standardized and reliable evaluation tool that is designed to assess the level of children's and adolescents' Internet addiction. The purpose of this study is to grasp the realities of elementary students' Internet addiction using an evaluation tool developed for elementary and secondary students, and to analyze the factors affecting Internet addiction. A survey was conducted to 1,382 5th and 6th graders selected from nationwide schools. • Technology acceptance model(TAM) has been widely used to predict the end-user's acceptance of a new IT/IS. We used TAM as a theoretical foundation to explain user's intention to use an Internet shopping mall. The theoretical model is tested with the questionnaires from 308 users of an Internet shopping mall. Results show that several individual characteristics such as Internet skills and self-efficacy have a significant impact on user's perception of usefulness and ease of use. Results also show that both perceived enjoyment and perceived usefulness of Internet shopping mall strongly predict intention to use the Internet shopping mall. However, perceived ease of use has no direct influence on intention to use the Internet shopping mall. Personal innovativeness and Internet skills also have a positive effect on perceived enjoyment. Therefore, Internet shopping mall managers have to consider intrinsic motivational factor(enjoyment) as well as extrinsic motivational factor(usefulness). In addition, individual characteristics should be emphasized to form the positive beliefs about using the Internet shopping mall.

  • In this paper we applied our previously developed assessment framework to the data collected from an internet security readiness survey targeted at households. We used the assessment framework to compute an Internet Security Readiness index for each household, which was in turn derived from Internet Security Readiness capital, skill, and actual uptake/use of infrastructure indices. We then examined the relationships among overall Internet Security Readiness, and the capital, skill, and actual uptake/use of infrastructure related to Internet Security Readiness. In addition, we explored the influence of Internet usage level and experience on Internet Security Readiness.
