도심권 공항 터미널 환경 개선을 위한 빅 데이터 기반의 항공수요예측 (Big Data-Based Air Demand Prediction for the Improvement of Airport Terminal Environment in Urban Area)

  • 2018년 국토교통부의 통계에 따르면, 연평균 항공교통이용자만 국내선 5.07%, 국제선 8.84%가 증가하였다. 한류의 열풍으로 인해 지속적인 외국인 관광객의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 동시에 개인의 삶의 질을 중요시하는 새로운 생활 문화가 자리잡아가고 있으며 이와 더불어 저가 항공사의 출현으로 인해 내국인의 해외 관광 또한 증가하고 있다. 따라서 효율적이고 정확한 항공 수요예측을 진행하여 체계적인 공항 인프라를 조성하는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 빅 데이터(big data)를 기반으로 하여 도심권 공항의 국내선 및 국제선 장기 수요예측을 진행하였다. 국내선의 경우 2028년 이후 인구 감소에 따라 공항이용객이 다소 감소할 것이며, 국제선은 GDP증가에 따라 지속적으로 증가할 전망이다. 따라서 미래의 항공수요에 대처하기 위해서는 국내 공항의 여객터미널 개선 및 확충이 절실하다.

Radiation Phenomena in Planetary Entries

  • Radiative heating phenomena occurring in planetary entry flights are reviewed for the purpose of educating those who are not familiar with the problem. How the radiative heat transfer rates to the Apollo entry vehicle were measured and analyzed are first described. Next, the effects of thermo-chemical non-equilibrium on radiation are summarized. Then the radiation problems in entry flights into other planets are reviewed. Finally, unsolved problems are enumerated.

  • Air transport industry tries to enhance punctuality, stability and amenity for customer's satisfaction. Especially airlines and airports do make an effort as the distance between these two stakeholders and passengers are close. This research has empirically discussed the relationship between duty free shop purchase of passengers and the number of flights and hours of schedule delay at the airport. According to the result, the total sales of duty free shop sales have meaningful influence on the number of flights and hours of delay. In order to decrease such an impact, close cooperation between airports and duty free shops required.

인천국제공항 안개사례를 통한 경제적 재해 규모분석 (Analysis of the Economic Disaster Scale for Fog Case occurred at the Incheon International Airport)

  • Poor visibility is very important information in aviation meteorology factor, because secure safety, trust and economical efficiency increase for aircraft movements. The Incheon International Airport 4 years recent times was to period aircraft movements delay and cancellation due to meteorology is 52% and 30%. And then fog is 63% and 43% in meteorology factor. Therefore, the analysis against the economic loss size of an airline due to the fog is necessary. This study is indirectly estimated economic disaster scale of flight return and cancellation due to the fog in the Incheon International Airport from 5 to 6 March 2006. This is based on an aviation operational statistics data and meteorology observation data. Result of estimated, total 14 flights return to Gimpo, Jeju and Gimhae in this period are about 208,205,700 won. And estimated total 10 flights cancellation are about 718,657,000 won.

Liability in the context of space tourism

  • This article is dedicated to my colleague and friend Professor Soon-Kil Hong, Ph.D, who is the famous President of the Korean Association of Air and Space Law and distinguished teacher at the prestigious Hankuk Aviation University. I had the honour and pleasure to teach there a few years ago - upon his gracious invitation. Professor Soon-Kil Hong has made a long, outstanding and impressive career in aviation and space activities, both from a practitioners and academic perspective. That is why I have tried to find a subject which addresses these facets of his personality although this humble article cannot do justice to the great merits of Professor Soon-Kil Hong. Numerical Prediction of Rotor Tip-Vortex Roll-Up in Axial Flights by Using a Time-Marching Free-Wake Method

  • The wake geometries of a two-bladed rotor in axial flights using a time-marching free-wake method without a non-physical model of the far wake are calculated. The computed free-wake geometries of AH-1G model rotor in climb flight are compared with the experimental visualization results. The time-marching free-wake method can predict the behavior of the tip vortex and the wake roil-up phenomena with remarkable agreements. Tip vortices shed from the two-bladed rotor can interact with each other significantly. The interaction consists of a turn of the tip vortex from one blade rolling around the tip vortex from the other. Wake expansion of wake geometries in radial direction after the contraction is a result of adjacent tip vortices begging to pair together and spiral about each other. Detailed numerical results show regular pairing phenomenon in the climb flights, the hover at high angle of attack and slow descent flight too. On the contrary, unstable motions of wake are observed numerically in the hover at low angle of attack and fast descent flight. It is because of the inherent wake instability and blade-vortex-interaction rather then the effect of recirculation due to the experimental equipment.

항공기 지연 개선을 위한 적정 수준의 Turnaround Time 도출 연구 (Study on Determining Appropriate Turnaround Time to Improve Aircraft Delay)

  • The aircraft delay rate has increased nearly three times in 2023 due to change in Korea policy of delay criteria. One of the primary causes of delays in domestic flights is related to reactionary delays, with Turnaround Time being a key factor. To mitigate reactionary delays and reduce aircraft delays, it is essential to establish an appropriate Turnaround Time and integrate it into flight schedules. This study aims to analyze the appropriate Turnaround Time for aircraft operating at Gimpo, Gimhae, and Jeju International Airports, which handle a high frequency of domestic flights. The research applies air traffic simulation, using variables such as current flight schedules, actual flight times, Turnaround Time, and flight routes to simulate actual conditions. Based on this analysis, the study seeks to identify the fitting Turnaround Time across various scenarios. The findings are expected to address reactionary delays and help reduce overall delay rates in domestic flights.

Assessment of risks for breast cancer in a flight attendant exposed to night shift work and cosmic ionizing radiation: a case report

  • Background: Some epidemiological studies have estimated exposure among flight attendants with and without breast cancer. However, it is difficult to find a quantitative evaluation of occupational exposure factors related to cancer development individually in the case of breast cancer in flight attendants. That is, most, if not all, epidemiological studies of breast cancer in flight attendants with quantitative exposure estimates have estimated exposure in the absence of individual flight history data. Case presentation: A 41-year-old woman visited the hospital due to a left breast mass after a regular check-up. Breast cancer was suspected on ultrasonography. Following core biopsy, she underwent various imaging modalities. She was diagnosed invasive ductal carcinoma of no special type (estrogen receptor positive in 90%, progesterone receptor positive in 3%, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2/neu equivocal) with histologic grade 3 and nuclear grade 3 in the left breast. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was administered to reduce the tumor size before surgery. However, due to serious chemotherapy side effects, the patient opted for alternative and integrative therapies. She joined the airline in January, 1996. Out of all flights, international flights and night flights accounted for 94.9% and 26.2, respectively. Night flights were conducted at least four times per month. Moreover, based on the virtual computer program CARI-6M, the estimated dose of cosmic radiation exposure was 78.81 mSv. There were no other personal triggers or family history of breast cancer. Conclusions: This case report shows that the potentially causal relationship between occupational harmful factors and the incidence of breast cancer may become more pronounced when night shift workers who work continuously are exposed to cosmic ionizing radiation. Therefore, close attention and efforts are needed to adjust night shift work schedules and regulate cosmic ionizing radiation exposure.

항공기 연착과 Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004의 적용기준 - 영국 Royal Courts of Justice의 Emirates 사건을 중심으로 - (Compensation for flight delay and Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 - Based on recent cases in Royal Courts of Justice -)

  • 지난 2017년 10월 12일 영국 고등법원(Royal Courts of Justice)은 항공기 운항지연에 따른 항공사의 보상책임에 관하여 판단하였다. 2건의 사건이 병합된 사안에서 원고인 승객들은 영국 리버풀을 출발하여 아랍에미레이트의 두바이를 경유하여 각각의 목적지인 방콕과 시드니로 가기 위해 피고 항공사와 운송계약을 체결하였다. 사안에서 최종 목적지에 승객이 연착되었는지 여부를 판단함에 있어서 연결편을 포함하는 전체 항공여정이 고려되어야 한다는 원고측의 주장에 대해 피고 항공사는 첫 번째 항공편에 발생한 연착만이 항공사의 책임을 판정하는 고려의 대상이 되어야 한다고 주장하였다. 결국 이러한 다툼은 유럽연합(EU)의 항공소비자 보호에 관한 Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004의 적용범위에 관한 것이었다. 즉, 첫 번째 항공운송은 EU지역의 공항을 이륙한 항공편이었고, 두 번째 항공운송은 EU가 아닌 다른 지역에서 운항되었고 더욱이 해당 운송인이 EU에서 설립된 항공사가 아니므로 환승 이후의 항공운송에 관해서는 Regulation 261의 적용이 배제되므로 규정된 금전보상의무가 인정될 수 없다고 피고 항공사가 주장하였던 것이다. 본 논문은 이와 같이 연결편에 의한 항공운송 계약의 이행에서 발생한 지연에 관한 Regulation 261의 적용범위가 문제되었던 사례와 유럽연합사법법원(Court of Justice of the European Union, CJEU)의 판례를 검토할 목적에서 기술되었다. 해당 사례를 연구하는 것은 우리 국민과 항공사에게 시사하는 바가 적지 않다. 우선 Regulation 261 규정에 따라, EU지역을 출발하는 모든 항공사를 이용하는 승객은 동 규정의 적용대상에 포함되므로 EU를 출발하는 우리 국적사들은 Regulation의 직접 적용을 받게 된다. 비록 지리적인 이유로 유럽을 출발하여 우리나라를 경유해서 타국으로 환승하는 여객이 사안에서 문제가 되었던 중동지역과 비교할 때 절대적으로 많지는 않을 것으로 생각되지만, 해당 규정의 의미와 판례동향은 분명히 참고가 필요할 것으로 본다. 나아가 그 서문에서 천명하고 있는 바와 같이 Regulation 261은 기본적으로 항공운송인 보다 소비자인 여객의 권리보호에 친화적인 판례를 다수 도출하고 있는 바, 우리나라의 항공소비자 보호를 위한 법제연구에도 본 연구는 좋은 참고가 될 수 있을 것으로 본다.

항공기 운항으로 인한 김포국제공항 주변지역의 TV 수신 장애 분석 (Interference Analysis of TV Signal Affected by Flights of An Airplane around KimPo International Airport Circumference)

  • 본 논문에서는 김포국제공항 주변지역을 프랏터(flutter) 장애 분석 대상지역으로 선정하여 프랏터 장애를 분석하였다. 프랏터 장애 분석을 위해 김포국제공항 주변 25지점에 대한 현장 측정을 실시하고 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 프랏터 장애 분석 함수로서 직접파 수신 전계강도, 송 수신점 안테나 높이, 송신점 ERP, 송신주파수, 항공기의 반사계수, 송 수신점 좌표 등을 고려하였다. 결과로부터, 항공기 운항에 따른 프랏터 장애는 항공기의 항로 주변지역에서 심각하게 나타났고 항공기의 고도가 낮을 때(항공기 고도 : 40~240m) 주로 발생하였다. 또한, 프랏터 장애는 항공기와 방송 송신점 간의 거리, 앙각 및 항공기의 반사계수에 따라 장애 정도가 달라짐을 알 수 있었다.
