A Study on the Revitalization Strategy for Inter-Korean Railway by Building the Railway Logistics Depot - Focused on the Donghae Line - (철도 물류기지 구축을 통한 남북철도 활성화 방안 연구 - 동해선을 중심으로 -)

  • The allotment rate for railway transportation keeps an yearly 6% in Korea. However, the railway logistics will cause the opposite result according to the continuous investment and logistics rationalization. The study on railway logistics as well as inter-Korean railway that might highly contribute to the development of railway logistics is not enough at all. The purpose of this paper is to study the revitalization strategy for inter-Korean railway by forecasting the demand and the scale of railway logistics depot. The revitalization strategies for inter-Korean railway through railway logistics depot are as followings. First, it is necessary to strengthen the partnership with coal user in the logistics depot. Second, it is encouraged to provide the financial assistance that are needed in the maintenance of the decrepit North Korea's track as well as the establishment of Donghae northern line that is from Gangneung to Jejin. Third, the railway cost on long/short transportation and large sized shipper is needed to apply in a flexible way. Fourth, it is necessary to obtain the railway traffic right by involving the foreign mining development. Fifth, it is encouraged to constantly find the small sized shipper like cement company.

  • The following study, as the importance of military role in a national disaster is emerging as a part of comprehensive security, there has been a number of elements of social disaster-related support in support of each type of national disaster aimed to improve the military's role towards comprehensive security but there has been no regular study of this topic. The point of this study is to analyze various aspects and hardships during the mission and improve the effectiveness of future support missions by observing and interviewing the military personnel which substituted the role of train drivers in the Seoul Metro in 2016, when the Korean Railroad Corporation [KORAIL] Workers Union was on strike [72 days] which is the longest period of a national disaster requiring military assistance.

Investigation of Research Trends in the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) (선택적 기능 동작 평가의 연구 동향 분석)

  • Purpose : Selective functional movement assessment(SFMA) is a movement-based assessment tool designed for clinicians to diagnose and treat pain and functional physical problems. This concept is used for assistance in occupations related to movement, including clinical medical personnel, such as physical therapists, physical education instructors, and athlete coaches. Although this concept is widely used by clinicians, research and scientific proofs are relatively insufficient. This study aimed to review the literature on the understanding, reliability and effectiveness of SFMA, and to consider its role in the future of rehabilitation. Methods : In this review, a total of nine articles were selected according to the eligibility criteria of three major thesis topics. The main topics covered in the literature are reliability and effectiveness of clinical use of SFMA. To gather research articles, we searched official term 'Selective Functional Movement Assessment'. Among the searched 60 studies, nine were mentioned in this study that contained overlapping information and matched our desired topic. We reviewed four reliability analyses, four case reports, and one experimental study. Results : Reliability has an intermediate degree between high raters and within raters. The validity of the SFMA system is influenced by a combination of experience and logic; hence, further improvement is needed. Therefore, if the intervention was effective based on the diagnosis result, then biomechanical evidence is necessary to further support the claim. Conclusion : In future research, to use SFMA as a diagnostic tool with high accuracy, it is necessary to improve the reliability of the main problem through breakout, support for guidelines and validity and efficiency.

The Role and Directions of Korean Urban Development Cooperation: A Review of Colombian Planning Systems and Case Studies of Urban Development Projects (콜롬비아 도시계획 제도와 도시개발사업 사례 분석을 중심으로 살펴본 한국 도시개발 협력 역할과 과제)

  • Korean urban development cooperation is gradually expanding into Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) region, but strategies to encourage domestic market players to participate are insufficient. This paper investigated the Colombian urban planning system, urban development projects, and Korean projects in Colombia, which leads to implications for international cooperation in LAC. This research, first, compares the national and regional urban planning systems of Colombian major cities, Bogotá and Medellín. Second, case studies are carried out with a land readjustment project, a Macro project for large-scale public rental housing supply, and urban development cooperation between Korea and Colombia. By doing so, the role and the directions for Korean urban development cooperation with LAC such as Colombia are discussed and proposed. The findings suggest, first, aid projects through Official Development Assistance (ODA) should establish urban networks in recipient countries. Second, it is necessary to understand the financing structure for urban development cooperation projects that are different from infrastructure projects. Third, the successful case of urban development cooperation should be demonstrated by making the development period and size optimal and manageable.

Semantic Network of User Experience in Automotive Connectivity Systems: Comparative Analysis of Korean and the US Automakers (전기차 커넥티비티 시스템의 사용자 경험 의미연결망: 한국과 미국의 비교를 중심으로)

  • As the penetration of electric vehicles and development of new models, user experience factors are getting more important in designing connectivity systems for car infotainment services. The primary object of this study is to identify commonalities and differences by comparing user experience factors in the Korean and US electric vehicle markets. This study derived connectivity keywords by text mining the vehicle introduction on the market in each country, and performed centrality, cluster analysis and visualization mapping using the semantic network analysis. As a result, the Korean new electric vehicle connectivity service mainly focused on driving functions such as driving, parking assistance, and charging, while US focused on device connection, convenience function control, app use, entertainment viewing. Based on the analysis, this study presented the practical implications in marketing, system design, and HMI design.

A Comparative Analysis of the Germany and Korea's Bilateral Cooperation Strategy to Secure Overseas Clean Hydrogen: Focusing on the Geopolitical Perspective (독일과 한국의 해외 청정수소 확보를 위한 양자협력 전략 비교 분석: 지정학적 관점을 중심으로)

  • Recently, the world has been considering hydrogen energy as the primary energy transition means to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In order to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Korea is also promoting a clean hydrogen economy. However, it is necessary to introduce various clean hydrogen from overseas so that the projected demand can not meet the domestically produced. For this study, we conducted the policy comparison approach between countries other than the generally considered technical and economic approaches. The finding proposes the direction of bilateral cooperation for a strategy of securing overseas clean hydrogen from a geopolitical perspective. Germany was a target country for the policy comparison since it has a high proportion of manufacturing, like Korea, and is taking the lead in the renewable-based energy transition policy. According to the survey and analysis of the policy establishment status and new projects of the two countries, Germany is promoting bilateral international cooperation in the hydrogen area with about 33 countries based on 7 types of activities. In comparison, Korea is involved in bilateral cooperation with about 12 countries on relatively few activities. Among the types of bilateral cooperation, R&D cooperation with advanced countries for hydrogen technology was a common activity type. Germany preemptively promotes cooperation for demonstration and commercialization, considering geopolitical means and strengthening manpower training and assistance on policy and regulation to preoccupy the market for the future. Therefore, it is necessary to consider establishing a network of an entire life cycle of supply and demand network that links the future market with securing clean hydrogen considering the geopolitical distribution. To this end, Korea also needs to expand bilateral cooperation countries by activity type, and it seems necessary to seek various geopolitical-based bilateral cooperation and support measures for developing countries to diversify the supply sources of hydrogen.

Personal Driving Style based ADAS Customization using Machine Learning for Public Driving Safety

  • The development of autonomous driving and Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology has grown rapidly in recent years. As most traffic accidents occur due to human error, self-driving vehicles can drastically reduce the number of accidents and crashes that occur on the roads today. Obviously, technical advancements in autonomous driving can lead to improved public driving safety. However, due to the current limitations in technology and lack of public trust in self-driving cars (and drones), the actual use of Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) is still significantly low. According to prior studies, people's acceptance of an AV is mainly determined by trust. It is proven that people still feel much more comfortable in personalized ADAS, designed with the way people drive. Based on such needs, a new attempt for a customized ADAS considering each driver's driving style is proposed in this paper. Each driver's behavior is divided into two categories: assertive and defensive. In this paper, a novel customized ADAS algorithm with high classification accuracy is designed, which divides each driver based on their driving style. Each driver's driving data is collected and simulated using CARLA, which is an open-source autonomous driving simulator. In addition, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) machine learning algorithms are used to optimize the ADAS parameters. The proposed scheme results in a high classification accuracy of time series driving data. Furthermore, among the vast amount of CARLA-based feature data extracted from the drivers, distinguishable driving features are collected selectively using Support Vector Machine (SVM) technology by comparing the amount of influence on the classification of the two categories. Therefore, by extracting distinguishable features and eliminating outliers using SVM, the classification accuracy is significantly improved. Based on this classification, the ADAS sensors can be made more sensitive for the case of assertive drivers, enabling more advanced driving safety support. The proposed technology of this paper is especially important because currently, the state-of-the-art level of autonomous driving is at level 3 (based on the SAE International driving automation standards), which requires advanced functions that can assist drivers using ADAS technology.

  • With the development of autonomous driving technology, as the use of software in vehicles increases, the complexity of the system increases and the difficulty of development increases. Developments that meet ISO 26262 must be carried out to reduce the malfunctions that may occur in vehicles where the system is becoming more complex. ISO 26262 for the functional safety of the vehicle industry proposes to consider functional safety from the design stage to all stages of development. Specifically at the software level, the requirements to be complied with during development and the requirements to be complied with during verification are defined. However, it is not clearly expressed about specific design methods or development methods, and it is necessary to supplement development guidelines. The importance of analysis and verification of requirements is increasing due to the development of technology and the increase of system complexity. The vehicle industry must carry out developments that meet functional safety requirements while carrying out various development activities. We propose a process that reflects the perspective of system engineering to meet the smooth application and developmentrequirements of ISO 26262. In addition, the safety analysis/verification FMEA processforthe safety of the proposed ISO 26262 function was conducted based on the FCAS (Forward Collision Avoidance Assist System) function applied to autonomous vehicles and the results were confirmed.   • The global crisis caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) led to the most significant economic loss and human deaths after World War II. The pathogen causing this disease is a novel virus called the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2). As of December 2020, there have been 80.2 million confirmed patients, and the mortality rate is known as 2.16% globally. A strategy to protect a host from SARS-CoV-2 is by suppressing intracellular viral replication or preventing viral entry. We focused on the spike glycoprotein that is responsible for the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into the host cell. Recently, the US Food and Drug Administration/EU Medicines Agency authorized a vaccine and antibody to treat COVID-19 patients by emergency use approval in the absence of long-term clinical trials. Both commercial and academic efforts to develop preventive and therapeutic agents continue all over the world. In this review, we present a perspective on current reports about the spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 as a therapeutic target.

A study on the toilet lifting seat for the elderly (노약자를 위한 변기 리프팅 시트 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to design a toilet lifting seat to prevent falls accidents in the elderly while using the toilet. Prior to design, laws and national standards related to restroom use were investigated and the available space for the assistive devices to be installed was determined. In additions, considering the body size and operating range of the elderly, the optimal final position of the toilet seat is set so that users can use it more safely and conveniently without external help. Moreover, in order to provide an effective standing assistance function, a complex 4-bar link structure was applied to enable simultaneous seat elevation and angle adjustment when operating the device, and the appropriate link shape and dimensions were determined using a linkage program and UG NX. FEA analysis using ANSYS Workbench is performed to ensure the robustness of the stretched linkage and the feasibility of the lifting seat is verified through fabrication.
