  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to measure the changes on the marginal and internal adaptation of zirconia based anterior fixed partial dentures after the porcelain firing process. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 34 anterior fixed partial dentures using LAVA CAD/CAM system (3M ESPE, Germany) were applied. Two silicone replicas were obtained: one is obtained before porcelain firing process (initial) and the other is obtained after porcelain firing process (final), followed by the examination under a binocular stereomicroscope. Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks tests were used for the statistical analysis (P<.05). RESULTS. No statistically significant difference was found between initial and final marginal gap values (P>.05). At the internal gap measurements, final marginal area values ($59.54{\mu}m$) were significantly lower than the initial marginal area values ($68.68{\mu}m$)(P<.05). The highest and the lowest internal gap values were observed at the incisal/occlusal area and at the marginal area, respectively. In addition, lower internal gap values were obtained for canines than for central incisors, lateral incisors and premolars at the incisal area (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The firing cycles did not affect the marginal gap of Lava CAD/CAM system, but it is controversial for the internal gap.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal and internal fit of nano-composite CAD-CAM restorations. Materials and Methods: A full veneer crown and an mesio-occluso-distal (MOD) inlay cavity, which were prepared on extracted human molars, were used as templates of epoxy resin replicas. The prepared teeth were scanned and CAD-CAM restorations were milled using Lava Ultimate (LU) and experimental nano-composite CAD/CAM blocks (EB) under the same milling parameters. To assess the marginal and internal fit, the restorations were cemented to replicas and were embedded in an acrylic mold for sectioning at 0.5 mm intervals. The measured gap data were pooled according to the block types and measuring points for statistical analysis. Results: Both the block type and measuring point significantly affected gap values, and their interaction was significant (p = 0.000). In crowns and inlays made from the two blocks, gap values were significantly larger in the occlusal area than in the axial area, while gap values in the marginal area were smallest (p < 0.001). Among the blocks, the restorations milled from EB had a significantly larger gap at all measuring points than those milled from LU (p = 0.000). Conclusions: The marginal and internal gaps of the two nano-composite CAD/CAM blocks differed according to the measuring points. Among the internal area of the two nano-composite CAD/CAM restorations, occlusal gap data were significantly larger than axial gap data. The EB crowns and inlays had significantly larger gaps than LU restorations.

  • In order to develope high concentration$\cdot$yield ozonizer, superposed discharge type ozonizer using overlap of silent discharge and internal electrode of mesh type has been designed and manufactured. It consists of three electrodes(central electrode, internal electrode and external electrode) and double gaps(gap between central electrode and internal electrode, gap between internal electrode and external electrode). Therefore, ozone is generated by overlapping silent discharges generated between the gaps respectively for which the AC high voltages applied to the internal electrode and the external electrode has a $180{[^\circ]}$ phase difference and for which the central electrode is a ground Ozone generation characteristics proportional to mesh of internal electrode by increasing of discharge electrode and controlling of discharge power density. As a result, the in maximum ozone concentration, generation, and yield can be obtained 17,720[ppm], 5.4[g/h], and 205[g/kwh] respectively.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal gap of zirconia copings fabricated by CAD/CAM system and to research the effect of cement space on the fit of zirconia prosthesis. Methods: Zirconia copings were designed using 3shape software and then milled from presintered zirconia blocks by Kavo dental milling machine. The cement space was set at $0{\mu}m$ around the margins for all groups, and additional cement space appling 1 mm above the finish lines of tooth. The samples were classified into 4 groups according to the cement space setting(Cs-0, Cs-40, Cs-80, Cs-120). Replica technique used to investigate marginal and internal gap. The silicone film thickness was recorded using a optical microscope with image software analysis system at 75${\times}$magnification. The assessment performed on the six points in bucco-lingual and mesio-distal sections(4 groups, 10 copings per group, 12 measuring points per coping). The data were statistically analyzed with one-way ANOVA followed by pair-wise Tukey's post hoc tests(${\alpha}$<0.05). Results: Better marginal and internal fit values were exhibited by $80{\mu}m$ cement space. The results showed that different cement space values had statistically significant effect on the marginal and internal gap of zirconia copings(p<0.001). The gap of margin and axial wall area was smaller than that the gap of occlusal area in all groups(p<0.001). Conclusion : Effect of different cement spaces on the marginal and internal gap of zirconia copings.

  • In this study, it is experimentally investigated how bell acoustics are influenced by the internal cavity of the bell and the gap between the bell bottom and the floor. Acoustic transmission function and natural frequency of a test bell are measured and analysed. Experimental study is conducted to evaluated how the resonance effect influences the bell sound and how the bell sound is different according to the striking condition and the measurement direction. Acoustic resonance frequency of the cavity-gap system is predicted by boundary element analysis using SYSNOIS and the validity of the predicted result is verified by experiment. The result of the study could be applied to determine the optimal gap size which makes the bell sound strong and long.

  • Sengmaek-san(Shengmai-san; SMS) is used in oriental medicine as one of the key herbal medicine for treating diverse symptoms including cardiovascular and neurological disorders. In the present study, the effects of SMS on axonal regeneration were investigated in the rat model given sciatic nerve injury. SMS treatment enhanced axonal regrowth into and the number of non-neuronal cells in the distal area after crush injury. GAP-43 protein levels were increased in the injured sciatic nerve compared to intact nerve and further upreguated by SMS treatment. GAP-43 protein was increased similarly in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) at lumbar 4 - 6 by nerve injury and SMS treatment, suggesting GAP-43 induction at gene expression level. SMS-mediated increase in phospho-Erk1/2 protein was observed in the DRG as well as in the injured nerve implying its retrograde transport into the cell body as the process of lesion signal transmission. The present findings suggest that SMS may be involved in enhanced axonal regeneration via dynamic regulation of regeneration-associated proteins.

  • PURPOSE. To assess the marginal and internal gaps of the copings fabricated by computer-aided milling and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) systems in comparison to casting method. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ten metal copings were fabricated by casting, computer-aided milling, and DMLS. Seven mesiodistal and labiolingual positions were then measured, and each of these were divided into the categories; marginal gap (MG), cervical gap (CG), axial wall at internal gap (AG), and incisal edge at internal gap (IG). Evaluation was performed by a silicone replica technique. A digital microscope was used for measurement of silicone layer. Statistical analyses included one-way and repeated measure ANOVA to test the difference between the fabrication methods and categories of measured points (${\alpha}$=.05), respectively. RESULTS. The mean gap differed significantly with fabrication methods (P<.001). Casting produced the narrowest gap in each of the four measured positions, whereas CG, AG, and IG proved narrower in computer-aided milling than in DMLS. Thus, with the exception of MG, all positions exhibited a significant difference between computer-aided milling and DMLS (P<.05). CONCLUSION. Although the gap was found to vary with fabrication methods, the marginal and internal gaps of the copings fabricated by computer-aided milling and DMLS fell within the range of clinical acceptance (< $120{\mu}m$). However, the statistically significant difference to conventional casting indicates that the gaps in computer-aided milling and DMLS fabricated restorations still need to be further reduced.

  • We demonstrate the blue InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with an embedded air-gap photonic crystal (PC) which was fabricated by the lateral epitaxial overgrowth of GaN layer on the tungsten (W) nano-masks. The periodic air-gap PC was formed by the chemical reaction of hydrogen with GaN on the W nano-mask. The optical output power of LEDs with an air-gap PC was increased by 26% compared to LEDs without an air-gap PC. The enhanced optical output power was attributed to the improvement in internal quantum efficiency and light extraction efficiency by the air-gap PC embedded in GaN layer.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal gap of metal coping fabricated using additive manufacturing (AM) group and subtractive manufacturing (SM) group by dental computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) systems. Twenty same cases of stone models of abutment teeth 16 by the universal numbering system were manufactured and scanned. Ten metal copings of control group were fabricated using SM and ten metal coping of experimental group were fabricated using AM. Marginal and internal gap of copings were measured using the silicone replica technique and digital microscope (${\times}140$). The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 21.0 Statistical Software for independent samples t-test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Mean${\pm}$ standard deviation (SD) of marginal and internal gap total size of SM group was $101.00{\pm}40.33{\mu}m$ of AM group was $83.61{\pm}40.37{\mu}m$. Mean${\pm}$SD of marginal and internal gap total size of SM group was significantly greater than that of AM group (p<0.05). This study showed that AM metal copings had a better marginal and internal gap than SM metal copings.
