Improvement of Endoscopic Image using De-Interlacing Technique (De-Interlace 기법을 이용한 내시경 영상의 화질 개선)

  • In the case of acquisition and displaying medical Images such as ultrasonography and endoscopy on VGA monitor of PC system, image degradation of tear-drop appears through scan conversion. In this study, we compare several methods which can solve this degradation and implement the hardware system that resolves this problem in real-time with PC. It is possible to represent high quality image display and real-time processing and acquisition with specific de-interlacing device and PCI bridge on our hardware system. Image quality is improved remarkably on our hardware system. It is implemented as PC-based system, so acquiring, saving images and describing text comment on those images and PACS networking can be easily implemented.metabolism. All images were spatially normalized to MNI standard PET template and smoothed with 16mm FWHM Gaussian kernel using SPM96. Mean count in cerebral region was normalized. The VOls for 34 cerebral regions were previously defined on the standard template and 17 different counts of mirrored regions to hemispheric midline were extracted from spatially normalized images. A three-layer feed-forward error back-propagation neural network classifier with 7 input nodes and 3 output nodes was used. The network was trained to interpret metabolic patterns and produce identical diagnoses with those of expert viewers. The performance of the neural network was optimized by testing with 5~40 nodes in hidden layer. Randomly selected 40 images from each group were used to train the network and the remainders were used to test the learned network. The optimized neural network gave a maximum agreement rate of 80.3% with expert viewers. It used 20 hidden nodes and was trained for 1508 epochs. Also, neural network gave agreement rates of 75~80% with 10 or 30 nodes in hidden layer. We conclude that artificial neural network performed as well as human experts and could be potentially useful as clinical decision support tool for the localization of epileptogenic zones.

  • In this paper, theoretical basis of stereoscopic display is investigated and programmed to shaw the application which could be used in the Virtual Reality (VR), especially for ship design. Stereoscopic is based on the seperated view point of left and right eyes on the screen and making 3 dimensional image. There different stereoscopic methods such are red-blue, interlacing, side-by-side and above-below are imvestigated and implemente to shaw the simple ship model and inside of ship. To shaw the 3 dimensional view, OpenGL is used to make program by implementing the logic of stereoscopic. Simple models and ship design are implemented to survey the applicability of stereoscopic for ship design. The best way is to use two projectors to emit interlaced shape. It is expected to imply this technique in the VR application for ship design.

  • 본 논문에서는 아날로그 TV에서 사용되는 인터레이스 영상을 디지털 디바이스에서 보다 우수하게 출력하기 위해 새로운 디인터레이싱 알고리듬을 제안 한다. 기존의 에지 기반의 라인 평균 방법의 경우 제한된 방향의 화소단위 상관도를 이용하기 때문에 잡음과 계조도 변화에 취약하였다. 또한 공간적 방향 벡터를 사용한 DOI방법은 영상 내 수평 에지가 강한 영역을 보간하는데 우수하지만 좌우 넓은 검색 영역으로 인한 잡음에 취약한 단점이 있었다. ED4D는 에지기반 라인 평균 방법과 공간적 방향 벡터를 적절히 사용하여 규칙적 에지 특성을 갖는 영역에 대한 에지 방향의 정확도를 높였다. 하지만, 참조 방향 및 화소 보간의 판별 기준이 $3{\times}2$ 윈도우로 고정되어 있기 때문에 초기 방향성 판단 기준과 수평 방향 에지 검출에 있어 정밀도가 떨어지는 문제점을 안고 있다. 제안하는 방법은 기존에 사용하던 $3{\times}2$ 윈도우에 $5{\times}2$ 윈도우를 추가적으로 적용하여 초기 방향성 판단 기준을 더 섬세하게 하였으며, 변형된 공간적 방향 벡터를 사용하여 넓은 검색영역으로 인한 잡음의 간섭을 줄였다. 실험결과를 통하여 제안한 방법이 기존의 방법에 비해 주관적 화질뿐만 아니라 객관적인 성능도 우수함을 알 수 있다.

Atypical β-Catenin Activated Child Hepatocellular Tumor

  • Hepatocellular adenomas are a benign, focal, hepatic neoplasm that have been divided into four subtypes according to the genetic and pathological features. The ${\beta}$-catenin activated subtype accounts for 10-15% of all hepatocellular adenomas and specific magnetic resonance imaging features have been defined for different hepatocellular adenomas subtypes. The current study aimed to report the magnetic resonance imaging features of a well differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma that developed on the basis of ${\beta}$-catenin activated hepatocellular adenomas in a child. In this case, atypical diffuse steatosis was determined in the lesion. In the literature, diffuse steatosis, which is defined as a feature of the hepatocyte nuclear factor-$1{\alpha}$-inactivated hepatocellular adenomas subtype, has not been previously reported in any ${\beta}$-catenin activated hepatocellular adenomas case. Interlacing magnetic resonance imaging findings between subtypes show that there are still many mysteries about this topic and larger studies are warranted.

An Adaptive Deinterlacing Algorithm Using a Median Filter (중간값 필터를 이용한 적응적 디인터레이싱 알고리듬)

  • In this paper, we propose a new deinterlacing method that converts the interlaced images into the progressive images using a field. Firsr of all, it estimates the direction of edge. If it makes an accurate estimate of the direction, then it interpolates a pixel using ELA(Edge-based Line Average). Otherwise, it estimates the new direction of edge, and then,, it interpolates a pixel using a proposed median filter. From simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method improves both subjective and objective image quality as compared with previous deinterlacing methods.

Content Adaptive Interpolation for Intra-field Deinterlacting (공간적 디인터레이싱을 위한 컨텐츠 기반 적응적 보간 기법)

  • This paper presents a content adaptive interpolation (CAI) for intra deinterlacing. The CAI consists of three steps: pre-processing, content classification, and adaptive interpolation. There are also three main interpolation methods in our proposed CAI, i.e. modified edge-based line averaging (M-ELA), gradient directed interpolation (GDI), and window matching method (WMM). Each proposed method shows different performances according to spatial local features. Therefore, we analyze the local region feature using the gradient detection and classify each missing pixel into four categories. And then, based on the classification result, a different do-interlacing algorithm is activated in order to obtain the best performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the CAI method performs better than previous techniques.

Uterine Leiomyosarcoma in a Lion-Head Rabbit

  • A 5-year-old female lion-head rabbit weighing 2 kg was brought to a local animal hospital with hematuria. Radiography showed a mass in the uterus, which was removed by ovariohysterectomy. Macroscopic examination showed several masses in both uterine horns. These masses, which invaded the deep uterine walls, were firm to the touch, and their cut surfaces were greyish-white in color. Histopathologically, these masses were nonencapsulated and were composed of spindle cells arranged in cellular, large interlacing bundles or streams. The tumor cells had elongate nuclei with prominent nucleoli, granular chromatin and eosinophilic cytoplasm. Moderate anisocytosis and anisokaryosis were observed. Severe and extensive inflammation and necrosis were present within the masses. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for vimentin, desmin, and α-smooth muscle actin, but negative for cytokeratin. These uterine masses were diagnosed as leiomyosarcoma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a uterine leiomyosarcoma in the rabbit in Korea.

Design of A Cascaded Cyclic Product Coding system (Cascade 방식을 이용한 순환곱셈코드의 시스템 설계)

  • In this paper, the cyclic product codes which are capable of correcting random erros and burst errors simultaneously have been designed and constructed. First, the procedure for product of two cyclic codes is shown and thin the encoder and decoder system using the (7,4) cyclic Hamming code and the (3,1) cyclic code is implemented. The micro-computer is used for experiment and the system consists of encoder, decoder and interface circuits. The encoder of cyclic product code is implemented by interlacing encoders while the decoder is implemented by cascading decoders that interlace error trapping decoders. In conclusion, cyclic product codas are easily decodable and are capable of correcting four random errors and eight-burst errors. Better performance is obtained with low error rate.

Cutaneous peripheral nerve sheath tumors in 15 dogs

  • Peripheral nerve sheath tumors (PNSTs) are heterogeneous tumor groups of peripheral nerves that originate from either Schwann cells or modified Schwann cells, fibroblasts, or perineural cells. In this study, signalment and clinical data such as tumor location and size were evaluated for 15 cases of PNSTs collected from local animal hospitals. The mean age of dogs with malignant PNST was higher than that of dogs with benign PNST. Additionally, the male to female ratio in dogs with PNST was 1 : 4. In dogs with PNST, the primary sites of involvement were the hindlimb, forelimb, around the mammary glands, the neck, and the abdomen. Histiopathologic examination revealed that eight PNSTs were benign and seven were malignant. The tumor cells were composed of loosely to densely arranged interlacing bundles and wavy spindle cells arranged in short bundles, palisading, and whirling. High mitotic figures, local invasion, multifocal necrosis and atypical multinucleated giant cells were observed in malignant PNST cases. All PNSTs showed immunoreactivity for vimentin and S-100. However, only 93.3% and 73.3% were immunoreactive for NSE and GFAP, respectively. Overall, these results indicated that immunohistochemical markers such as vimentin, S-100 and NSE could help confirm the diagnosis of canine PNSTs.

Cutaneous smooth muscle tumors in 3 dogs

  • Cutaneous leiomyomas (leiomyosarcomas) are smooth muscle tumors that occur single or as multiple lesions. They usually arise from the arrector pili muscles (piloleiomyomas) and less commonly from the muscle of veins (angioleiomyomas). This report describes histologic and immunohistochemical features of one cutaneous piloleiomyoma and two angioleiomyosarcomas. Three 7-12-year-old female dogs were presented with single or double cutaneous nodules. Histologically, the neoplastic masses were composed of densely or loosely arranged interlacing bundles. The neoplastic cells were ovoid to elongate, and had eosinophilic cytoplasms and perinuclear cytoplasmic vacuolation. Nuclei were central to eccentric, cigar shaped, oval to elongate. In two cases, high mitotic index in high power field, multifocal necrosis and local invasion were also noted. Masson's trichrome and van Gieson staining revealed muscle origin tumors in these cases. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were strongly positive for smooth muscle actin. In our best knowledge, this is the first report of cutaneous smooth muscle tumors in dogs in Korea.
