Multi-Cluster based Dynamic Channel Assignment for Dense Femtocell Networks

  • This paper proposes a novel channel assignment scheme called multi-cluster based dynamic channel assignment (MC-DCA) to improve system performance for the downlink of dense femtocell networks (DFNs) based on orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and frequency division duplexing (FDD). In order to dynamically assign channels for femtocell access points (FAPs), the MC-DCA scheme uses a heuristic method that consists of two steps: one is a multiple cluster assignment step to group FAPs using graph coloring algorithm with some extensions, while the other is a dynamic subchannel assignment step to allocate subchannels for maximizing the system capacity. Through simulations, we first find optimum parameters of the multiple FAP clustering to maximize the system capacity and then evaluate system performance in terms of the mean FAP capacity, unsatisfied femtocell user equipment (FUE) probability, and mean FAP power consumption for data transmission based on a given FUE traffic load. As a result, the MC-DCA scheme outperforms other schemes in two different DFN environments for commercial and office buildings.

  • This study investigated the influence of perceived parenting style on the sense of community of middle-class adolescents and if adolescent' life satisfaction has a mediating effect on the relationship between perceived parenting style and sense of community. The study population consisted of a nationally representative sample of elementary and middle school students who completed the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey of the National Youth Policy Institute in 2010. Among the 4,729 participants of the data, 2,876 were eligible for research focused on the middle class. Descriptive statistics included frequency, average, and standard deviation; in addition, reliability and stepwise regression results were reported using SPSS statistics. The results were as follows. First, the sense of community was 2.86 out of 4-point Likert scale. Monitoring (3.28) was the highest among the perceived parenting styles followed by affection (3.17), reasoning (3.01), over-expectation (2.57), over-interference, and inconsistency (2.40). Second, among subcategories of perceived parenting style, affection, reasoning, monitoring, and over-expectation had a statistically significant influence on sense of community. A higher perceived parenting style had a higher sense of community of middle-class children. Third, the life satisfaction of children had a statistically significant moderating effect on relationship between perceived parenting style and sense of community; therefore, the influence of perceived parenting style on sense of community could change according to life satisfaction.

Designing Rich-Secure Network Covert Timing Channels Based on Nested Lattices

  • As the youngest branch of information hiding, network covert timing channels conceal the existence of secret messages by manipulating the timing information of the overt traffic. The popular model-based framework for constructing covert timing channels always utilizes cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the inter-packet delays (IPDs) to modulate secret messages, whereas discards high-order statistics of the IPDs completely. The consequence is the vulnerability to high-order statistical tests, e.g., entropy test. In this study, a rich security model of covert timing channels is established based on IPD chains, which can be used to measure the distortion of multi-order timing statistics of a covert timing channel. To achieve rich security, we propose two types of covert timing channels based on nested lattices. The CDF of the IPDs is used to construct dot-lattice and interval-lattice for quantization, which can ensure the cell density of the lattice consistent with the joint distribution of the IPDs. Furthermore, compensative quantization and guard band strategy are employed to eliminate the regularity and enhance the robustness, respectively. Experimental results on real traffic show that the proposed schemes are rich-secure, and robust to channel interference, whereas some state-of-the-art covert timing channels cannot evade detection under the rich security model.

건물 내 스몰셀 네트워크에서 채널 선택 기반 다중점 협력통신 (Coordinated Multi-Point Communications with Channel Selection for In-building Small-cell Networks)

  • 본 논문은 매크로 기지국(Macro base station, MBS) 커버리지에 위치한 건물 내부의 밀집된 스몰셀 네트워크 환경에서 매크로 사용자 단말(Macro user equipment, MUE)의 성능향상을 위한 채널 선택 기반 다중점 협력통신(Coordinated multi-point, CoMP) 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 CoMP 방법에서 건물 내에 위치한 MUE의 성능향상을 위해 스몰셀 기지국(Small-cell base station, SBS)들이 이웃한 MUE에게 간섭을 적게 미치는 방법으로 채널을 선택하고 CoMP가 필요한 MUE에게 적절한 신호를 송신한다. 시뮬레이션 결과에서 제안하는 CoMP 방법이 기존의 랜덤채널할당 기반의 스몰셀 네트워크 방법과 CoMP방법보다 MUE의 성능을 각각 최대 164%와 51%까지 향상시킨다.

  • This paper, we present the evaluation of outage probability on the SNR under the overlapped carrier allocation scheme in the reverse link with imperfect power control of a cellular CDMA system, which is base on using Gaussian approximation. In numerical results, the band limited pulse generated by square-root of raised consin pulse shaping filters (SRRC) of the transmitted signal is investigated and compared in conventional FD/CDMA and OC-CDMA of the outage probability. It will be also show that the outage probability can be improved by overlapping of carriers. We use error statistics to model the intra-cell interference and evaluate the impact of different mobiles velocity and number of resolvable paths on the system performance.

  • In this paper we address the problem of detecting and estimating an unknown narrow band signal in a noise interference environment A new practical band estimation method, yielding good performance even in case of finite-length data, is presented. More specifically, wavelet packet transform is utilized to detect the more accurate time-variant band, then we estimate the power from wavelet filter-coefficients of the respective band. Also, third-order cumulants, and projection cross-correlation (PCC) criterion are utilized to achieve an effective SNR improvement for the time-variant band estimation. In case of time variant band estimation, the PCC method yields better performance than the correlation method.

Effect of People Moving near Short-Range Indoor Propagation Links at 2.45 GHz

  • Measurement results are presented for the effects of people moving near and across short-range indoor propagation links at 2.45 GHz (ISM band). Excess loss due to scattering and blockage by human bodies in the vicinity of one terminal were measured for different radio links in an office environment. Statistics on fades due to human body motion are given. Polarization coupling (depolarization) for various radio links was measured, and correlation of polarization components is discussed as a basis for using polarization diversity reception in short-range indoor systems.

  • Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) allows unlicensed users to share licensed spectrum in space and time with no or little interference to primary users, with bring new research challenges in MAC design. We propose a cognitive MAC protocol using statistical channel utilization information and selecting appropriate spectrum hole for multi-channel data transmission. The protocol based on the CSMA/CA, exploits statistics of spectrum usage for decision making on channel access.

  • 본 논문은 16-QAM 신호 전송시 시분산 채널에서 발생되는 부호간 간섭을 줄이기 위해 사용되는 적응 등화알고리즘인 VSCA (Variable stepsize Square Contour Algorithm)와 VSDA (Variable stepsize Square contour Decision directed Algorithm)의 성능 비교에 관한 것이다. SCA 에서는 송신 신호의 2차 통계치인 Constellation Dependent Constant를 이용하여 수신 신호의 진폭과 위상을 보상하지만, 이들 VSCA와 VSDA에서는 constellation matching을 위한 distance adjusted approach 개념을 이용한 step size를 변화시켜 적응 등화 성능을 더욱 개선시킨 것이다. 논문에서는 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 VSCA와 VSDA의 성능을 비교하였으며, 이를 위한 성능 지수로는 등화기 출력 신호 성상도, 잔류 isi양, 최대 찌그러짐 및 MSE를 사용하였다. 이들 알고리즘의 성능 비교 결과 모든 비교지수에서 VSCA 알고리즘이 VSDA보다 우월함을 확인하였다.

H.264 인트라 프레임에서 방해함수를 이용한 적응적 보간 (Adaptive Interpolation for Intra Frames in H.264 Using Interference Function)

  • H.264의 인트라 프레임 에러복원기법은 상하좌우 인접한 블록의 픽셀을 사용하여 거리의 가중치 평균값으로 손실된 블록을 복원한다. H.264의 인트라 프레임 에러복원기법은 주변블록 픽셀의 간단한 평균값을 이용하여 복원하므로 심각한 블러링 현상이 발생하고 화질 저하의 문제를 야기한다. 이를 개선하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 주변블록의 픽셀 정보를 이용하여 손실된 블록의 주된 에지 방향을 추정하고, 통계값을 이용한 방해함수의 결과 값으로 에지 방향 기반의 보간법과 가중치 평균 보간법을 적응적으로 선택하여 복원하는 방법을 제안한다. 에지방향 기반의 보간법에서는 선택된 주된 에지방향과 상하좌우 각각의 주변블록의 에지방향들 간의 상호관계를 고려함으로써 최종적으로 최적 에지 방향을 선택하여 성능을 향상시킨다. 제안된 방법은 영상에 따라 H.264 에러복원기법보다 객관적인 화질이 $0.5{\sim}2.0dB$ 정도의 PSNR 향상을 보였다.
