The effects of bond coat species on the growth behavior of thermally grown oxide (TGO) layer in thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) was investigated through furnace cyclic test (FCT). Two types of feedstock powder with different particle sizes and distributions, AMDRY 962 and AMDRY 386-4, were used to prepare the bond coat, and were formed using air plasma spray (APS) process. The top coat was prepared by APS process using zirconia based powder containing 8 wt% yttria. The thicknesses of the top and bond coats were designed and controlled at 800 and $200{\mu}m$, respectively. Phase analysis was conducted for TBC specimens with and without heat treatment. FCTs were performed for TBC specimens at $1121^{\circ}C$ with a dwell time of 25 h, followed by natural air cooling for 1 h at room temperature. TBC specimens with and without heat treatment showed sound conditions for the AMDRY 962 bond coat and AMDRY 386-4 bond coat in FCTs, respectively. The growth behavior of TGO layer followed a parabolic mode as the time increased in FCTs, independent of bond coat species. The influences of bond coat species and heat treatment on the microstructural evolution, interfacial stability, and TGO growth behavior in TBCs are discussed.
Magneto-rheological elastomer (MRE) is a material which shows reversible and various modulus under magnetic field. Comparing to conventional rubber vibration isolator, MREs are able to absorb broader frequency range of vibration. These characteristic phenomena result from the orientation of magnetic particle (i.e., chain-like formation) in rubber matrix. In this study, silicone rubber was used as a matrix of MREs. Carbonyl iron particle (CIP) was used to give magnetic field reactive modulus of MRE. The surface of the CIP was modified with chemical reactants such as silane coupling agent and poly(glycidyl methacrylate), to improve interfacial adhesion between matrix and CIP. The mechanical properties of MREs were measured without the application of magnetic field. The results showed that the tensile strength was decreased while the hardness was increased with the addition of CIP. Also, surface modification of CIP resulted in the improvement of physical properties of MRE, but the degree of orientation of CIP became decreased. The analysis of MR effect was carried out using electromagnetic equipment with various magnetic flux. As the addition of CIP and magnetic flux increased, increment of MR effect was observed. Even though the surface modification of CIP gave positive effect on the mechanical properties of MRE, MR effect was decreased with the surface modification of CIP due to decrease of CIP orientation. Throughout this study, it was found that the loading amounts of CIP affected the mechanical properties of MRE, and surface property of CIP was an important factor on MR effect of MRE.

In this work, the engine oil resistant evaluation and breakdown analysis of room temperature vulcanizing silicone adhesives were performed through the surface properties, thermal stabilities, adhesive strength, and morphology measurements. As a result, the permeation of engine oil into adhesive specimens was carried out from surface to center in the specimens. And the oil content in the adhesive specimens was increased and the Si-O-Si bond of the adhesives was decomposed with increasing the aging time. The TGA results indicated that the thermal degradation was mainly occurred at under and surfaces of the specimens. The tensile strength, elongation, and adhesive strength of the adhesives were significantly decreased after the engine oil resistant tests, which could be attributed to the initial lose of adhesive properties resulting from the engine oil absorption and thermal aging. And the failure mode of the adhesive specimens was changed from cohesive failure to interfacial failure.
Purpose: Physical and chemical properties of gold is most suitable to be restored of teeth to its original state. Recently zirconia was used instead of gold because of esthetical and intimacy of human body. Because of high strength and high abrasion resistance of zirconia, all zirconia artificial tooth lead to wear the original tooth of opposite site. To preserve this original tooth, zirconia artificial tooth covered with dental ceramic glass was used. When joining the zirconia core and dental ceramic glass, difference of their thermal expansion coefficient and wetting ability is generated the residual stress at interface lead to crack. In order to solve this problem, intermediate layer what is called zir-liner was imported to decrease the residual stress and increase the bonding strength. Methods: In this study, to identify the optimum conditions for manufacturing process, various methods to rough the surface of zirconia core were adopted, and vary the thickness of interlayer, and analyzed bond strength. Results: Bond strength of sanding specimens group showed higher than that of non-sanding specimens group, and once applied intermediate layer with sanding specimens showed highest bond strength with 28 MPa. SEM photomicrographs of zirconia cores fired at $1500^{\circ}C$ showed parallel straight lines in sanding and pockmarked surface in blasting surfaces as abrasion traces. Observation of the destruction section after shear test by SEM were carried out. Liner applied non-sanding group and non-liner applied sanding group all showed interfacial crack. Sandblasting group with non-liner showed remained dental ceramic glass on the surface of zirconia. Sandblasting group with once applied liner showed partially remained liner and dental ceramic glass on the surface of zirconia. XRD analysis revealed that sandblasting group showed higher monoclinic peaks than other specimens group and this result was due to the high collision energy for stress induced phase transformation. Conclusions: A study on the improvement of bonding strength between zirconia and dental ceramic glass steadily carried out for the future to practical use.

$La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-\delta}$ (LSCF) powders with different particle sizes, synthesized through a citrate complexation method and a gel-casting technique, are used to fabricate porous LSCF cathodes with graded microstructures via tape casting. To create porous electrodes with desired porosity and pore structures, graphite and starch are used as pore former for different layers of the graded cathode. Examination of the microstructures of the as-prepared LSCF cathode using an SEM revealed that both grain size and porosity changed gradually from the catalytically active layer (near the electrodeelectrolyte interface) to the current collection layer (near the electrode-interconnect interface). Impedance analysis showed that a 3-layer LSCF cathode with graded microstructures exhibited much-improved performance compared to that of a single-layer LSCF cathode, corresponding to interfacial resistance of 0.053, 0.11, and 0.27 $\Omega{\cdot}cm^2$ at 800, 750, and $700^{\circ}C$ respectively.

The dielectric breakdown of epoxy composites used for transformers was experimented and then its data were simulated by Weibull distribution probability. As a result, first of all, speaking of dielectric breakdown properties, the more hardener increased the stronger breakdown strength at low temperature because of cross-linked density by the virtue of ester radical. And the breakdown strength of specimens with filler was lower than it of non-filler specimens because it is believed that the adding filler forms interface and charge is accumulated in it, therefore the molecular motility is raised, the electric field is concentrated, and the acceleration of electron and the growth of electron avalanche are early accomplished. In the case of filled specimens with treating silane, the breakdown strength become much higher since this suggests that silane coupling agent improves interfacial combination and relaxs electric field concentration. Finally, from the analysis of weibull distribution, it was confirmed that as the allowed breakdown probability was given by 0.1%, the applied field value needed to be under 21.5MVcm.

Using Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$.$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{x}$ powders prepared by solid state reaction and spray drying method, the nucleation and growth behaviors of superconducting and second phases were investigated during isothermal heat treatment. When the spray drying power was used in contrast with solid state reaction powder, Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$.$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{x}$ (2223) phase could be formed at the relatively shot time and second phases were much bigger. Quantitative analysis showed that as the heat treatment time increased, more Bi$_2$Sr$_2$Ca$_2$.$_2$Cu$_3$$O_{x}$ (2212) changed to 2223 and the major second phase was changed from (Sr,Ca)$_{14}$Cu$_{24}$$O_{x}$(14:24) to (Sr,Ca)$_2$Cu$_1$$O_{x}$ (2:l). The superconducting phase formed at the relatively short time 14:24 phase. Following the Bi-free phase of 14:24 Phase, but long time was needed in places far from the 14:24 phase. Following the formation of the 2212 phase near the 14:24 phase, the 2223 phase nucleated preferentially at the interface between the 2212 and 14:24 phases. The preferential nuclcation of 2223 was explained by its structural similarity and low Interfacial energy with both the Bi-free and 2212 Phases.12 Phases.

This paper develops a 2-D moving least squares(MLS) difference method for Stefan problem by extending the 1-D version of the conventional method. Unlike to 1-D interfacial modeling, the complex topology change in 2-D domain due to arbitrarily moving boundary is successfully modelled. The MLS derivative approximation that drives the kinetics of moving boundary is derived while the strong merit of MLS Difference Method that utilizes only nodal computation is effectively conserved. The governing equations are differentiated by an implicit scheme for achieving numerical stability and the moving boundary is updated by an explicit scheme for maximizing numerical efficiency. Numerical experiments prove that the MLS Difference Method shows very good accuracy and efficiency in solving complex 2-D Stefan problems.
In this study, the bisphenol-based DGEBA/GEBS blend systems were studied in cure kinetics, thermal stabilities, and fracture toughness of the casting specimen. The content of DGEBA/DCEBS was varied in 100 : 0, 90 : 10, 80 : 20, 70 : 30, and 60 : 40 wt%. The cure activation energies ($E_a$) of the blend systems were determined by Ozawa's equation. The thermal stabilities, including initial decomposed temperature (IDT), temperatures of maximum rate of degradation ($T_{max}$), and integral procedural decomposition temperature (IPDT) of the cured specimen were investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). For the mechanical interfacial properties of the specimens, the critical stress intensity factor ($K_{IC}$) test was performed and their fractured surfaces were examined by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). As a result, $E_a$, IPDT, and $K_{IC}$ show maximum values in the 20 wt% DGEBS content compared with the neat DGEBA resins. This was probably due to the fact that the elevated networks were farmed by the introduction of sulfonyl groups of the DCEBS resin.
Screw-shaped implants of commercially pure (c.p.) titanium, c.p. niobium, c.p. zirconium, and stainless steel(Sus 304) were inserted in the rabbit tibial bone over 12 weeks of follow-up. New developed torque gauge instrument was used to evaluate the implant holding power and a image analysis program coupled to a microscope was used for histomorphometry. The three best consecutive threads of each implant were measured. Quantitative analyses at 12 weeks revealed a partial bone contact to the four kinds investigated metals. There were no obvious adverse tissue reactions to any of the biomaterials. At 12 weeks the average removal torques for titanium, niobium and zirconium were better than that needed for Sus 304 screws, on the other hand high score of bony contact ratio of titanium and niobium were showed in comparison to those of zirconium and Sus 304. There was no significant differences in the amount of interfacial bone of zirconium and Sus 304 whereas there was significant difference in the torque forces of niobium and Sus 304. Three months after implant insertion, the average removal torque was 6.64 Ncm for the titanium, 6.57 Ncm for the niobium, 6.38 Ncm for the zirconium, and 4.25 Ncm for the Sus 304. On average bone contacts there were 51.24% in the titanium, 48.19% in the niobium, 31.79% in the zirconium, 23.54% in the Sus 304. Biocompatibility of the titanium, niobium and zirconium was acceptable level in comparison to the Sus 304.
