Microdroplet deposition in a micro-groove is studied numerically. The droplet shape is determined by a level-set method which is improved by incorporating a sharp-interface modeling technique for accurately enforcing the matching conditions at the liquid-gas interface and the no-slip and contact angle conditions at an immersed solid surface. The computations are carried out to investigate the droplet behavior derived by the interfacial characteristics between the liquid-gas-solid phases. The effects of contact angle, impact velocity and groove geometry on droplet deposition in a micro-groove are quantified.

In this study, six specimens were prepared for two type FRP sheets(carbon and polyacetal) to evaluate the behavior of FRP-concrete interfacial bond. A direct tensile test was conducted and the test results show that fiber type influences both bond strength and the shape of strain distribution. The failure mode for carbon type specimens seems to bond failure between concrete and FRP, but for polyacetal type indicates interface failure between FRP and expoxy. The local bond stress-slip relations were obtained from test results, and it was shown good shape for the polyacetal type. But for the carbon type it was scattered.
Vertices terminating at free surface have been investigated extensively. Most of investigations, however, are focused on surface parallel vortices and little has been known about surface normal vortex or columnar vortex. Visualized experimental results utilizing LIF technique are discussed fur the purpose of characterization of columnar vortex interacting with a clean and a contaminated free surfaces and a solid body interface in the present investigation. The results reveal that surface tension changes due to surface contamination although bulk viscosity remains constant and eventually the behavior of a columnar vortex interacting with a contaminated free surface and a solid body interface are totally different from the clean free surface case.
This paper proposes J and CTOD estimation schemes applied to fracture toughness testing, covering typical homogeneous and bi-material specimens. Recommendations are based on the plastic limit analysis (either slip line field or finite element limit analyses), assuming the rigid plastic material behavior. The main outcome of the present study is that the J and CTOD estimation schemes (both codified and non-codified), recommended for homogeneous specimens, can be equally used for bi-material specimens with interface cracks. The effect of yield strength mismatch in bi-material specimens on the J-integral CTOD is discussed.
Deteriorative effects of steel corrosion on the structural response of reinforced concrete are simulated for varying degrees of corrosion. The simulation approach is based on a three-dimensional irregular lattice model of the bulk concrete, in which fracture is modeled using a crack band approach that conserves fracture energy. Frame elements and bond link elements represent the reinforcing steel and its interface with the concrete, respectively. Polylinear stress-slip properties of the link elements are determined, for several degrees of corrosion, through comparisons with direct pullout tests reported in the literature. The link properties are then used for the lattice modeling of reinforced concrete beams with similar degrees of corrosion of the main reinforcing steel. The model is successful in simulating several important effects of steel corrosion, including increased deflections, changes in flexural cracking behavior, and reduced yield load of the beam specimens.
This paper presents a careful theoretical investigation into interfacial stresses in composite aluminum-slab reinforced concrete beam bonded by a prestressed hybrid carbon-glass composite material. The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e., the aluminum beam, the slab reinforced concrete, the hybrid carbon-glass composite plate and the adhesive layer. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions. Numerical results from the present analysis are presented both to demonstrate the advantages of the present solution over existing ones and to illustrate the main characteristics of interfacial stress distributions. It is shown that the stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite beam. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of the hybrid structures.
A series of two-dimensional (2D) finite element analyses have been performed to study the behaviour of single piles in consolidating ground. The analysis was conducted based on coupled analyses by considering changes of pore water pressure in the clay. In the analyses the soil slippage at the pile and the soil interface has been included. The method widely used in practice somewhat overestimates dragload by about 25% compared to the rigorous numerical analysis since partial mobilization of skin friction near neutral plane and reductions in the vertical soil stress is not incorporated. When soil slip develops at most of the pile length at the pile-soil interface during consolidation, further increases in dragload is not significant. Application of coating on the pile surface can reduce dragload and pile settlement substantially, but under an axial load on the pile head very large pile settlement can be developed unless pile tip is located to a stiff bearing layer.

Steel-concrete composite beam with profiled steel sheet has gained its popularity in the last two decades. Due to the ageing of these structures, retrofitting in terms of flexural strength is necessary to ensure that the aged structures can carry the increased traffic load throughout their design life. The steel ribs, which presented in the profiled steel deck, limit the use of shear connectors. This leads to a poor degree of composite action between the concrete slab and steel beam compared to the solid slab situation. As a result, the shear connectors that connects the slab and beam will be subjected to higher shear stress which may also require strengthening to increase the load carrying capacity of an existing composite structure. While most of the available studies focus on the strengthening of longitudinal shear and flexural strength separately, the present work investigates the effect of both flexural and longitudinal shear strengthening of steel-concrete composite beam with composite slab in terms of failure modes, ultimate load carrying capacity, ductility, end-slip, strain profile and interface differential strain. The flexural strengthening was conducted using carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) or steel plate on the soffit of the steel I-beam, while longitudinal shear capacity was enhanced using post-installed high strength bolts. Moreover, a combination of both the longitudinal shear and flexural strengthening techniques was also implemented (hybrid strengthening). It is concluded that hybrid strengthening improved the ultimate load carrying capacity and reduce slip and interface differential strain that lead to improved composite action. However, hybrid strengthening resulted in brittle failure mode that decreased ductility of the beam.
Among various tools for pop music composition, what is most frequently used by K-Pop composers is the digital sequencer program, or DAW software (Digital Audio Workstation). When it comes to making commercial music such as K-Pop, the proportion of using these programs is extremely high. By using those software, composers come to undergo an entirely different art creation process. User interface (UI) of the DAW software has a profound effect on the process of making music, particularly vis-a-vis usability and visibility. This study is an attempt to analyze the Avid Pro Tool's UI with a focus on its inherent characteristics revealed in relation with the real effect throughout music composition. This study categorizes the UI elements in the Edit Window of the Pro Tools as Grid, Track, Slip, Clip, and Fade. Those categorized elements would be analyzed through Douglas Morgan's Creative-Process theory, thereby clarifying how visual interface of the DAW software functions in music composition practically.

Workers are avoiding production/manufacturing sites due to the poor working environment and concern over safety. Small and medium-sized businesses introduce new equipment to secure safety in the production site or ensure effective process management by introducing the real-time monitoring technique for existing equipment. The importance of real-time monitoring of equipment and process in the production site can also be found in the ANSI/ISA-195 model. Note, however, that most production sites still use paper-based work slip as a process management technique. Data reliability may deteriorate because information on the present condition of the production site cannot be collected/analyzed properly due to manual data writing by the worker. This paper introduces the monitoring and process management technique based on a direct facility interface to secure safety in the field by improving the poor working environment and enhance there liability and real-time characteristics of the production data. Since the data is collected from equipment in real-time directly through the SIB-based interface and PLC-based interface, problems associated with workers' manual data input are expected to be solved; safety can also be improved by enhancing workers' attention to work by minimizing workers' injuries and disruption.
