In this study, we would like to describe peel strength and dynamic shear property on various substrates of multi-layered structural double-sided adhesive tape with or without adhesive (AD) prepared by UV curing for an automobile, construction, and display junction. According to adapt the adhesive, the peel and dynamic shear strength of adhesion tape prepared with acrylic foam or various plastic substrates increased with increasing molecular weight, however, decreased over 650000 molecular weight. The adhesion property shows high value at the thin AD layer with decreasing temperature. The interface property shows highest at MW 615000 (AD-4), and the interface junction below MW 615000 resulted to divide from acrylic foam and adhesive layer. From this study, the multi-layered structural double-sided adhesive tapes seem to be a useful for industrial area such as a low surface energy plastic material and curved substrate.

The stress state developed in a thin adhesive layer bonded between the semiconductor chip and the leadframe and subjected to a shear loading is investigated. The boundary element method (BEM) is employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. Within the context of a linear elastic theory, a stress singularity of type $\gamma^{\lambda=1}$(0<1<1) exists at the point where the interface between one of the rigid adherends and the adhesive layer intersects the free surface. Such singularity might lead to edge crack or delamination.
Sealing treatment is a post-surface treatment of the plasma spray coating process to improve the corrosion resistance of the coating material. In this study, the effect of the sealing on the corrosion resistance and adhesive strength of the plasma spray-coated alumina coatings was analyzed. For sealing, an epoxy resin was applied to the surface of the coated specimen using a brush. The coated specimen was subjected to a salt spray test for up to 48 hours and microstructural analysis revealed that corrosion in the coating layer/base material interface was suppressed due to the resin sealing. Measurement of the adhesive strength of the specimens subjected to the salt spray test indicated that the adhesive strength of the sealed specimens remained higher than that of the unsealed specimens. In conclusion, the resin sealing treatment for the plasma spray-coated alumina coatings is an effective method for suppressing corrosion in the coating layer/base material interface and maintaining high adhesive strength.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strength using confocal laser scanning microscope and microtensile bond strength test of two adhesive systems. The dentin surface of human molars. sectioned to remove the enamel from the occlusal surface. Either Scotchbond Multi-Purpose(3M Dental Product, St. Paul, MN, U.S.A) or Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan) was bonded to the surface. and covered with resin-composite. The resin-bonded teeth were serially sliced perpendicular to the adhesive interface to measure the hybrid layer thickness by confocal laser scanning microscope. The specimen were trimmed to give a bonded cross-sectional surface area of $1\textrm{mm}^2$, then the micro-tensile bone test was performed at a cross head speed of 1.0 mm/min. All fractured surfaces were also observed by stereomicroscope. There was no significant differences in bond strengths the materials(p>0.05). However. the hybrid layers of three-step dentin adhesive system, SM, had significantly thicker than self-etching adhesive system. CS(p<0.05). Pearson's correlation coefficient showed no correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strengths(p>0.05). Bond strengths of dentin adhesive systems were not dependent on the thickness of hybrid layer.
We invested effect of the keeping-time of uncured composite and thermal aging, of cured composite on adhesive strength for rubber-brass coated steel cord composite in this study. We also evaluated how the adhesive strength affects to tire endurance. Using PAD adhesion specimen, peel adhesive strength was measured. The uncured composite was kept for several days up to 35 days in factory. Cured composite was also kept for 5 and 10 days at $85^{\circ}C$ in dry oven. Peel adhesive strength was decreased with increasing keeping-time and showed lower value with increasing thermal aging time. The lower peel adhesive strength, the lower tire-endurance. This fact was caused by the humidity and thermal aging which affected in the decrease of adhesive strength of the rubber-steel cord composite and resulted in interface fracture between rubber and steel cord. This phenomenon was confirmed from SEM investigation and tire-endurance. It was just known that corrosion of steel cord's surface and aging of adhesive layer strongly affected to decrease of adhesive strength. This resulted in directly decreasing tire-endurance.
An understanding of the mechanism of concrete girders repaired with CFRP plates and its influence on the dynamic parameters is presented in this paper. Dynamic parameters are governed by the relationship with the physical properties of concrete girders and CFRP plates as well as the adhesive layer between them. A brief explanation of the mechanism of the composite action of concrete girders repaired with CFRP is also given in this paper. Experimental work was carried out to validate the theory of the composite action. The results show a decrease in the modal parameters of CFRP repaired girders that were turned over during the repair procedure, which contrasts with the proven static-based results that CFRP plates increase the stiffness of repaired girders. The composite action theory has explained the results based on the tension and compression forces' growth at the adhesive layer between the CFRP plates and girder surface during the repair procedure. Other girders were prepared and repaired without turning over in order to avoid tension and compression forces at the adhesive layer. The experimental results show an increase in the dynamic parameters of CFRP repaired girders that were not turned over during the repair procedure, which aligns with the static-based results. The study concludes that the dynamic parameters are excellent indicators for the assessment of CFRP repaired concrete girders. The study also suggests that researchers should not turn over damaged concrete girders to repair them with CFRP plates if they intend to study the dynamic parameters, in order to avoid the proposed composite action effect on modal parameters.
Adhesive joints have many advantages such as weight savings, corrosion and fatigue resistance and now developed even withstand of high impact and dynamic loads. However, an adhesion has cumbersome and complicated surface preparation processes. The surface preparation step is critical in adhesive joint manufacturing in order to obtain the prescribed strength for adhesive joints. In this study, it was attempted to simplify and reduce the number of surface preparation steps, and abrasion and rapid adhesive application (ARAA) process is developed for an alternative solution. The abrasion processes are performed only for creating surface roughness in standard procedures (SP), although the abrasion processes cause surface activation itself. The results showed that there is no need the long procedures in laboratory or chemical agents for adhesion. After the abrasion process, the attracted and highly reactive fresh surface layer obtained, and its effect on bonding success is observed and analyzed in this research, in light of the essential physic and adhesion theories. Al 6061 aluminum adherends and epoxy-based adhesives were chosen for bonding processes, which is mostly used in light vehicle parts. The adherends were cleaned, treated and activated only with abrasion, and after the adhesive application the specimens were tested under quasi-static loading. The satisfied ARAA results were compared with that of the specimens fabricated by the standard procedure (SP) of adhesion processes of high impact loads.
The high accurate simulation of very thin glue layers based on the finite element method is still connected to many problems which result from the necessity to construct a complicated mesh of essentially different sizes of elements. This can lead to a loss of accuracy, unstable calculations and even loss of convergence. However, the implementation of special transmission elements along the glue ling and special edge-elements in the near-edge region would lead to a dramatic decrease of number of finite elements in the mesh and thus, prevent unsatisfactory phenomena in numerical analysis and extensive computation time. The theoretical basis for such special elements is the knowledge about appropriate transmission conditions and the edge effects near the free boundary of the adhesive layer. Therefore, recently proposed so-called non-classical transmission conditions and the behavior near the free edge are investigated in the context of the single-lap tensile-shear test of adhesive technology.
The purpose of this study was to perform quantitative comparisons of water permeable zones in both the adhesive and the hybrid layer before and after thermo cycling in order to assess the integrity of the bonding interface. Twenty eight flat dentin surfaces were bonded with a light-cured composite resin using one of four commercial adhesives [OptiBond FL (OP), AdheSE (AD), Clearfil SE Bond (CL). and Xeno III (XE)]. These were sectioned into halves and subsequently cut to yield 2-mm thick specimens; one specimen for control and the other subjected to thermocycling for 10,000 cycles. After specimens were immersed in ammoniacal silver nitrate for 24 h and exposed to a photo developing solution for 8 h, the bonded interface was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and wavelength dispersive spectrometry (WDS) at five locations per specimen. Immediately after bonding. the adhesive layer of OP showed the lowest silver uptake, followed by CL, AD. and XE in ascending order (p < 0.0001); the hybrid layer of CL had the lowest silver content among the groups (p = 0.0039). After thermocycling, none of the adhesives manifested a significant increase of silver in either the adhesive or the hybrid layer. SEM demonstrated the characteristic silver penetrated patterns within the interface. It was observed that integrity of bonding was well maintained in OP and CL throughout the thermocycling process. Adhesive-tooth interfaces are vulnerable to hydrolytic degradation and its permeability varies in different adhesive systems, which may be clinically related to the restoration longevity.
