Development of Probabilistic-Fuzzy Model for Seismic Hazard Analysis (지진예측을 위한 확률론적퍼지모형의 개발)

  • A probabilistic-Fuzzy model for seismic hazard analysis is developed. The proposed model is able to reproduce both the randomness and the imprecision in conjunction with earthquake occurrences. Results-of this research are (a) membership functions of both peak ground accelerations associated with a given probability of exceedance and probabilities of exceedance associated with a given peak ground acceleration, and (b) characteristic values of membership functions at each location of interest. The proposed probabilistic-fuzzy model for assessment of seismic hazard is successfully applied to the Wasatch Front Range in Utah in order to obtain the seismic maps for different annual probabilities of exceedance, different peak ground accelerations, and different time periods.

The Korean Americans’ Knowledge on Korean Traditional Foods(II) -Preference and Frequency- (미국 거주 한인들의 전통음식에 관한 인식조사(II)-기호도 및 섭취빈도를 중심으로-)

  • This study was conducted to find out the desirable measures for maintenance and development traditional foods when abroad, by investigating the knowledge and actual state of utilization of Americans residing in the Los Angeles on Korean traditional foods. The 308 respondents of questionnaires were taken. 96% of the respondents demonstrated interest in traditional foods. Among kinds of traditional food, the most preferable food was boiled rice(71.4%) and Kimchi(70.9%) , The that traditional foods are used were good taste(45.4%) and familiar taste(41.6%). The reason for avoiding them was, mainly, troublesome cooking methods (46.3% ). Conclusively, the Korean Americans residing in the Los Angeles have made good use of boiled rice and Kimchi a staple common food, but special foods. ceremonial foods and festival foods were hardly used. To maintain Korean traditional foods when abroad, it is necessary that older generations sometimes offer opportunity to meet with them to the coming Korean generations, and Korean food companies develop and export standardized and simplified traditional foods.

  • This paper expounds the development of a user-friendly expert system for the optimal stacking sequence design of composite laminates subjected to the various rules constraints. The expert system was realized in the graphic-based design environment. Therefore, users can access and use the system easily. The optimal stacking sequence is obtained by means of integration of a genetic algorithm, finite element analysis. These systems were integrated with the rules of design heuristics under an expert system shell. The optimal stacking sequence combination for the application of interest is drawn from the discrete ply angles and design rules stored in the knowledge base of the expert system. For the integration and management of softwares, a graphic-based design environment that provides multi-tasking and graphic user interface capability is built.

  • Research interest on flexible body dynamics, has been increased recently. The major application areas are the auto-mobile, train, and heavy machinery. This paper attempted the dynamic analysis for the variable-gauge wheelset with a flexible body, to better understand the dynamic characteristics of the variable-gauge wheelset. In order to achieve this goal, a 3D-Virtual Mock-up model was built. The tendency of the stress and deformation for the flexible lever was investigated through component mode synthesis, contact mechanics and flexible body dynamics. This study is a pioneering work for the development of Korean type variable-gauge wheelset.

  • The air pollution by the diesel locomotives has become serious environmental concern because the emission gases are exhausted without any further treatment. Recently, the public interest on the air pollutants emission reduction technology is increasing due to the establishment of 'Metropolitan Air Quality Preservative Law' and the regulation of local governments on the urban air quality. In this study, we measured the concentration of particulate matters and gaseous pollutants by using a scanning mobility particle sizer, a dust spectrometer, and a stack sampler upon various engine load condition. The results show that the amount of emitted air pollutants increased upon the increase of engine power. The development of new technology to reduce the air pollutants emission is urgently required.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high-speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. We developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of KHST. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. Nowadays, position data inputs to pulse signal from wheel. Perfect position measurement was limited to slip and slide of vehicle. This measurement makes up for the weak points, Position Detection System using GPS develops. By using the system, Korean High Speed Train is capable of accurate fault position detection.

  • Recently the Korean Government is increasing investment and interest on railway in the transportation field as "low carbon and green growth" policy become main national development strategy. While railway competitiveness is weakening over the road from the inconvenient door-to-door and transfer system of railway, it is meaningful to review excellent railway transfer system of advanced countries and adapt their implications for Korea. Their transfer systems like Japan, Hongkong, France, U.K. and German can be categorized in this research as kinds of transfer & connectivity system and transfer facility & flow planning, and, as a result, their implications can be concluded. Also, analyzing transfer system of Korea's main stations and reviewing the difference between Korea and other countries, this paper suggests main principles and directions of urban planning, alignment of rail line, partnership of project stakeholder in the establishment of transfer system in the railway station in the future.

  • There is growing interest in CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) system in accordance with the development of the communication technologies. The CBTC system, which adopts the moving block, has advantages such as headway and installation cost reduction compared with the existing system with fixed block. For the moving block system, it is required to locate the trains in real-time. Based on EPLRS(Enhanced Position Location Reporting System) technology, the train position can be provided only through the communication between radios. This paper introduces EPLRS based train detection method and verifies its effect by instance.

  • This study investigated the relationship between musical understanding and expression, the purpose of music education. It also intended to present the theoretical basis of integrated early childhood music education by examining into the necessity of it as a method to help young children with musical understanding and expression. The results of the study showed that either of the understanding and expression of music should be necessary and there is a mutual promotional relationship between them. It was found out that real musical understanding can be formed not by mechanical skill, but when the relationship between notes is understood with various experiences. Therefore an integrated early childhood music education became necessary as a principle of educational method to help young children with musical understanding and musical expression. Concretely it was found out to be necessary in terms of the characteristics, interest and concern of young children, the use and development of multi intelligence and the translation of the same knowledge into the same level.

Genomic Research of the Genus Bifidobacterium and Its Application (비피도박테리아의 분자생물학적인 연구 동향)

  • Recently, the field of microbiology has been transformed by huge increasing number of publicly available whole-genome sequences. This sequence information has significantly enhanced our understanding of the physiology, genetics, and evolutionary development of bacteria. Among the gastrointestinal microorganisms, bifidobacteria represent the most important human commensals because of their contribution to maintaining a balanced gastrointestinal tract microbiota. In recent years bifidobacteria have drawn much scientific attention due to their use as live bacteria in numerous food products with various health-related claims. For this reason, these bacteria constitute a growing area of interest with respect to genomics, molecular biology, and genetics. Recent genome sequencing of a number of bifidobacterial species has allowed access to the complete genetic make-up of these bacteria. This review will focus how genomic data has allowed us to understand bifidobacterial evolution, while also revealing genetic functions that explains their presence in the particular ecological environment of the gastrointestinal tract.
