  • This paper examined the goblin characters in Japan animation. The meaning of the goblin in this paper is not a just monster. They have a spirit. This concept is based on animism in japanese mind. I attempted a chase of goblin character's making methods. My theoretical approaches lean on the concepts "inter-textuality" of Julia Kristeva and "text" of Roland Barthes. First of all, I compared some beings of the old chinese myth-geographical book with some characters of Japan animation . The making method of goblin characters is two. One is 'Hybrid', the other is 'Mutant'. And than I appled to Japanese traditional image, "Baek-kuy-ya-hang-do"(hundreds of goblins' parade). The making method of goblins is combined to a inter-textual way as hybrid or mutant.

  • The importance of maintenance is leading the application of the maintenance strategy in various industries. The maritime industry is also a part of them, with changes in selecting and applying the maintenance strategy, but rather slowly, by retaining the old strategy. In particular, the ship is maintaining a previously used strategy. In the circumstance of the sea, ship requires a new suggestion for maintenance strategy. A ship predictive maintenance model predicts the breakdown or malfunction of machineries to secure maintenance time with preventive actions and treatments, thereby avoiding maintenance-related dangerous factors. This study focused on applying text analysis to an Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers dock indent document, and the analysis results were interpreted from the original document. The inter-relational patterns observed from the frequency of common maintenance combinations among different parts and equipment in ships will be applied to the development of ship predictive maintenance.

  • News in the form of web data generates increasingly large amounts of information as unstructured text. The capability of understanding the meaning of news is limited to humans; thus, it causes information overload. This hinders the effective use of embedded knowledge in such texts. Therefore, Automatic Knowledge Extraction (AKE) has now become an integral part of Semantic web and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Although recent literature shows that AKE has progressed, the results are still behind the expectations. This study proposes a method to auto-extract surface knowledge from English news into a machine-interpretable semantic format (triple). The proposed technique was designed using the grammatical structure of the sentence, and 11 original rules were discovered. The initial experiment extracted triples from the Sri Lankan news corpus, of which 83.5% were meaningful. The experiment was extended to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news dataset to prove its generic nature. This demonstrated a higher meaningful triple extraction rate of 92.6%. These results were validated using the inter-rater agreement method, which guaranteed the high reliability.

  • In this paper, we present a method to extract the text lines in poorly structured documents. The text lines may have different orientations, considerably curved shapes, and there are possibly a few wide inter-word gaps in a text line. Those text lines can be found in posters, blocks of addresses, artistic documents. Our method based on the traditional perceptual grouping but we develop novel solutions to overcome the problems of insufficient seed points and vaned orientations un a single line. In this paper, we assume that text lines contained tone connected components, in which each connected components is a set of black pixels within a letter, or some touched letters. In our scheme, the connected components closer than an iteratively incremented threshold will make together a chain. Elongate chains are identified as the seed chains of lines. Then the seed chains are extended to the left and the right regarding the local orientations. The local orientations will be reevaluated at each side of the chains when it is extended. By this process, all text lines are finally constructed. The proposed method is good for extraction of the considerably curved text lines from logos and slogans in our experiment; 98% and 94% for the straight-line extraction and the curved-line extraction, respectively.

  • This study aims at analyzing the characteristics and the mode of deconstructionism expressed in fashion design centering on review of literatures and precedent researches. Through the review of previous studies and various articles, three major features with regard to deconstructionism were found: indeterminacy of meaning, decentralization, and inter -textuality. In fashion, the feature of indeterminacy of meaning expressed by non formula way such as unfinished, layering, obi or straight line cutting and it was divided into unstructured and unorganized factors. The feature of decentralization expressed by disorganization of sex, race, culture and humanism such as trans-gender, third world costume, sub-culture, posthumanism. Last, the feature of inter-textuality expressed by employing the fashion texts more than two simultaneously such as mixture of unmatched or unusual various clothing items, fabrics, patterns and styles. Non formality features in fahsion which divided into unstructured and unconstructed factors. The decentering of meaning means that disorganized the existing concepts of sex, race, culture and humanism features in fashion which divided into cross-gender, subculture, and post-humanism. Lastly, the feature of inter-textuality means that employed the fashion text more than two which is classified into factors of mixing mode and mixed styles. Unstructured factors were expressed by destroying the design principles such as balance, harmony and unit in fashion. Unconstructed factors were expressed by ignoring the basic costume structures and components in fashion. Cross-gender was expressed by manish and duality style in fashion and 3rd world costume was expressed by folk costume style. Anti fashion was expressed by anti aesthetics in fashion such as kitch, punk, and hippie styles. Post-human was expressed by futurism and the 4th Sex style in fashion. Mixing mode were expressed by mixture of item, and unmatched materials and pattern in fashion. Mixture of style were expressed by mixture of pastiche expression of various styles.

  • Measuring the similarity of given samples is a key problem of recognition, clustering, retrieval and related applications. A number of works, e.g. kernel method and metric learning, have been contributed to this problem. The challenge of similarity learning is to find a similarity robust to intra-class variance and simultaneously selective to inter-class characteristic. We observed that, the similarity measure can be improved if the data distribution and hidden semantic information are exploited in a more sophisticated way. In this paper, we propose a similarity learning approach for retrieval and recognition. The approach, termed as LDA-FEK, derives free energy kernel (FEK) from Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). First, it trains LDA and constructs kernel using the parameters and variables of the trained model. Then, the unknown kernel parameters are learned by a discriminative learning approach. The main contributions of the proposed method are twofold: (1) the method is computationally efficient and scalable since the parameters in kernel are determined in a staged way; (2) the method exploits data distribution and semantic level hidden information by means of LDA. To evaluate the performance of LDA-FEK, we apply it for image retrieval over two data sets and for text categorization on four popular data sets. The results show the competitive performance of our method.

  • There is a synchronization function which deals with only single media of text in the OSI Session Layer. So new synchronization schem and synchronization protocol are required for multimedia communications which include audio, video and graphic as well as text information. In this paper, conceptional Multmedia Synchronization Layer(MS layer) environment is composed and its service primitives and protocols based on 'multi-channel, base media scheme' are designed and proposed for multimedia synchronization services. This MS layer Manager (MSM) establishes the MS layer connection to the peer MS layer and manages each media channel which is created in MS layer media by media. The MSM also finds the synch-position through the media frame number by utilizing it like the time stamp to provide inter-media synchronization services as well as intra-media synchronization services.
