  • Three types of spherulitic morphologies have been investigated in dual substrate mode of Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) type reaction system. Prior to growth of spherulites, three distinct patterning behaviors have been observed sequentially during the reaction process. Initial and the early-phase of reaction showed the emergence of concentric ring-like wave patterns. A colloidal-state of reaction consists of numerous fine solid particles, which forms primarily some nucleation centers of dendritic characters. The nucleation centers were found to grow in sizes and shapes with the progress of reaction. It leads to growth of dendritic-like spherulitic crystal patterns. The resultant spherulites showed transitions in their morphologies, including sea-weeds and rhythmic spherulitic crystal patterns, by the effects substituted organic substrate and in the higher concentration of bromate-initiator respectively. The branching mechanism and crystal ordering of spherulitic textures were studied with help of optical microscope (OPM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Characteristics of crystal phases were also evaluated using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Results indicated that the compositions of reactants and crystal orderings were interrelated with morphological transitions of spherulites as illustrated and described.

  • Changes in road infrastructure affect driving patterns and pollutant emission characteristics. we analyzed the changes in driving patterns and pollutant emission characteristics of the driving route via measured driving patterns at year 2009 and 2016. Since 2009, there has been an increase in population and traffic demand, including residential areas and industrial facilities. Traffic conditions were improved such as the opening of the highway Inter-Change to Seoul and the construction of underground driveway. As a result, the average vehicle speed increased. More detail comparisons have made on the changes of the underground driveway section and the crossroad section, which are expected to have significant changes in the transportation infrastructure. The vehicle speed distribution of the underground driveway changed from low speed to high speed, and the increase of the time spent at the high speed and high load caused the increase of NOx emissions. The vehicle speed also increased at the crossroad section, and the consequence NOx and $CO_2$ emissions decreased. It is mainly because the decreased time spent at idle, which results from the proper traffic demand management at this area.

  • Sensitized STS 304 stainless steel crack growth rate(CGR) in high temperature water was investigated under trapezoidal wave loading test using fracture mechanics techniques. The CGR, due to stress corrosion cracking(SCC), were systematically measured as a function of the stress intensity factor and stress. holding time under trapezoidal wave loading. In high temperature water, CGR was enhanced by a synergistic effects in combination with an aggressive environment and mechanical damage. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{env}$ was basically described as a summation of the environmentally assisted crack growth rate $(da/dN)_{SCC}$, $(da/dN)_{CF}$ and fatigue crack growth rate in air $(da/dN)air,. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{env}$, increased linearly with increasing stress holding time. The CGR, $(da/dN)_{SCC}$ decreased linearly with increasing stress holding time. Fracture surface mode varied from trans-granular cracking to inter-granular cracking with increasing stress holding time.

  • We consider a cell edge environment. In cell edge, a user interfered by signal which is generated by a base stations not including the user. In cell edge environment, that is, there are inter cell interference (ICI) as well as multi user interference (MUI). Coordinated multi-point transmission (CoMP) is a technique which mitigates ICI between base stations. In CoMP, therefore, base stations can coordinate with each other by sharing user state information (CSI) in order to mitigate ICI. To improve sum rate performance in CoMP, each base station should generate optimal user group and transmit data to users selected in the optimal user group. In this paper, we propose a user selection algorithm in CoMP. The proposed method use signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) as criterion of selecting users. Because base station can't measure accurate SINR of users, in this paper, we estimate SINR equation considering ICI as well as MUI. Also, we propose a user selection algorithm based on the estimated SINR. Through MATAL simulation, we verify that the proposed method improves the system sum rate by an average of 1.5 ~ 3 bps/Hz compared to the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient architecture for a high-speed cell concentrator/distributor(HCCD) in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) switch and by analyzeing the simulation results evaluate the performance of the proposed architecuture. The proposed HCCD distributes cells from a switch link to local processors, or concentrates cells from local processor s to a switch link. This design is to guarntee a high throughput for the IPC (inter-processor communication) link in a distributed ATM switching system. The HCCD is designed in a moudlar architecture to provide the extensibility and the flexibility. The main characteristics of the HCCD are 1) Adaption of a local CPU in HCCD for improving flexibility of the system, 2) A cell-baced statistical multiplexing function for efficient multiplexing, 3) A cell distribution function based on VPI(Virtual Path Identifier), 4) A bypassing capability for IPC between processor attached to the same HCCD, 5) A multicasting capability for point-to-multipoint communication, 6) A VPI table updating function for the efficient management of links, 7) A self-testing function for detecting system fault.

  • Recently, the interest on power quality has been hot issue. The equipments cause voltage disturbance and has become more sensitive to the voltage disturbance. This paper deals with 5-Level H-Bridge Line-Inter active Dynamic Voltage Restorer(LIDVR) system. The LIDVR has following advantages in comparison with the DVR with series injection transformer It has the power factor near to unity under normal source voltage, can compensate the harmonic current of the load and the instant interruption, and has the fast response. First, the construction, the operation mode and algebraic modeling of LIDVR are reviewed. And then a voltage controller is proposed to get sinusoidal load voltage with constant amplitude. To find PWM method suitable for H-Bridge converter, two PWM methods are compared and analyzed. Finally, simulation results verify the proposed 5-level H-Bridge LIDVR system.

  • This work evaluates the performance of a number of seismic assessment procedures when applied to a case study reinforced concrete (RC) wall building. The performance of each procedure is evaluated through its ability to accurately predict deformation demands, specifically, roof displacement, inter-storey drift ratio and wall curvatures are considered as the key engineering demand parameters. The different procedures include Direct Displacement-Based Assessment, nonlinear static analysis and nonlinear dynamic analysis. For the latter two approaches both lumped and distributed plasticity modelling are examined. To thoroughly test the different approaches the case study building is considered in different configurations to include the effects of unequal length walls and plan asymmetry. Recommendations are made as to which methods are suited to different scenarios, in particular focusing on the balance that needs to be made between accurate prediction of engineering demand parameters and the time and expertise required to undertake the different procedures. All methods are shown to have certain merits, but at the same time a number of the procedures are shown to have areas requiring further development. This work also highlights a number of key aspects related to the seismic response of RC wall buildings that may significantly impact the results of an assessment. These include the influence of higher-mode effects and variations in spectral shape with ductility demands.

  • Buckling-restrained braced frames (BRBFs) are commonly used as the lateral force-resisting systems in building structures in the seismic regions. The nearly-symmetric hysteretic response and the delayed brace core fracture of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) under the axial cyclic loading provide the adequate lateral force and deformation capacity to BRBFs under the earthquake excitation. However, the smaller axial stiffness of BRBs result in the undesirable higher residual drift response of BRBFs in the post-earthquake scenario. Two alternative approaches are investigated in this study to improve the elastic axial stiffness of BRBs, namely, (i) by shortening the yielding cores of BRBs; and (ii) by reducing the BRB assemblies and adding the elastic brace segments in series. In order to obtain the limiting yielding core lengths of BRBs, a modified approach based on Coffin-Manson relationship and the higher mode compression buckling criteria has been proposed in this study. Both non-linear static and dynamic analyses are carried out to analytically evaluate the seismic response of BRBFs fitted with short-core BRBs of two medium-rise building frames. Analysis results showed that the proposed brace systems are effective in reducing the inter-story and residual drift response of braced frames without any significant change in the story shear and the displacement ductility demands.

  • A high-performance liquid chromatography method was applied to determine the contents of tocopherols in edible oils using a LiChrosorb DIOL HPLC column and hexane fortified with 0.1% acetic acid in an isocratic mode. The validation of the method included tests for linearity, sensitivity, accuracy, precision, and recovery. All calibration curves showed good linear regression ($r^2$>0.9995) within the tested ranges. The established method offered good precision and accuracy with overall intra-day and inter-day variations of 0.94$\sim$4.27 and 1.77$\sim$ 4.88%, respectively. The tocopherol recoveries ranged from 91.44$\sim$108.90%. Subsequently, the method was successfully applied to qualitatively and quantitatively determine the total contents of $\alpha$, $\gamma$, and $\delta$-tocopherols in 12 selected refined edible oils, showing a range of 0.92 to 188.71 mg/100 g.

  • The effects of Zr on the mechanical workability and tensile strength of Cu-Ni-Mn-Sn-Al alloys have been investigated and the following results were obtained. The mechanical workability of Cu-Ni-Mn-Sn-Al alloys are increased with addition of Zr. And the surface cracks of specimen were not produced in Zr added Alloys. Especially in condition of hot-worked beyond the 90% working ratio, Zr contained specimen showed intra-granule crack propagation but Zr-free specimen showed inter-granule mode. The tensile strength have maximum value in 0.05% Zr contained alloy. The aging mechanism of Cu-Ni-Mn-Sn-Al alloys were varied by Zr addition.
