치과위생사의 해외취업의사에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Intention of overseas employment in Korean dental hygienists)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between general characteristics and the intention of overseas employment and job satisfaction by Korean dental hygienists. Methods : We conducted a survey of 562 dental hygienists working in dental clinics nationwide. Collected data were analyzed by using the SAS(Version 9.2, SAS Institute, Cary, N.C.) package. $x^2$ test was used to determine the general characteristics of the subjects including job satisfaction level and intention to work abroad. Results : Old aged dental hygienists tended to work in the country rather than abroad(p<0.05). Higher job satisfaction was closely related to working hours, monthly income, social status, and stability of employment(p<0.05). Job satisfaction was concerned with intention to overseas employment. The main purpose of overseas employment included economic benefits(35.99%), self realization(26.75%), and improvement of working condition(21.66%) in the group of overseas employment(p<0.05). The obstacles to overseas employment were mastery of language proficiency(60.94%) and related information(21.89%) in those who want to work abroad. Conclusions : In order to increase the number of Korean dental hygienists for overseas employment, it is necessary to improve working competence and job satisfaction.

K 대학교 치위생학과 학생의 해외임상실습참여가 임상실습만족도, 전공만족도 및 해외취업의사에 미치는 영향 (Effect of K University Dental Hygiene Department students' participation in overseas clinical practice on satisfaction with practice, major, and intention to work abroad)

  • 연구배경: 강원도 K 대학교 치위생학과 학생의 해외임상실습참여에 따른 임상실습만족도 및 전공만족도, 해외취업의사의 차이를 분석하고자 시행하였다. 연구방법: 치위생학과 3,4학년 편의추출하여 총 215명에게 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 불성실 응답 1부를 제외하고 최종 214부를 분석하였다. 일반적인 특성은 성별, 학년, 치과 아르바이트 경험, 부모님 합산 월소득, 해외여행 경험, 토익 응시 여부, 학교 성적을 조사하였다. 학과 만족도와 학교 성적은 5점 Likert 척도로 측정하였다. 임상실습 관련 만족도는 임상실습 만족도, 해외실습 참여 의향, 해외취업 관심도를 조사하였다. 임상실습 만족도, 해외실습 참여도, 해외취업 관심도는 '만족(참여)한다', '보통이다', '만족(참여)하지 않는다'로 재구분하여 분석하였다. 연구결과: 해외임상실습에 참여자의 임상실습 만족도는 5점 만점의 4.00±1.00, 미참여자는 3.75±1.02, 전공만족도는 참여자 3.57±0.93, 미참여자 3.48±0.80로 차이가 있었으나 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다(p=.239, z=-1.177)(p=.570, z=-.568) 추후 해외로의 임상실습 참여 에 대하여 해외실습 참여자는 66.7%가 참여 의향이 있고, 원하지 않는 참여자는 없었으며 미참여자 40.9%는 참여의향이 없었으며 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 해외 취업에 대하여 참여자는 76.2%, 미참여자는 19.2%가 관심을 가지고 있으며 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 결론: 학생들의 해외실습 참여를 통해 실습 및 전공 만족도가 높아졌으며, 향후 해외실습 및 해외인턴십 프로그램 참여에 대한 긍정적인 의향을 갖고 있음을 확인하였다.

Cultural Competence and Influencing Factors of Dental Hygiene Students

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of cultural competence and its influencing factors among 530 dental hygiene students. The analysis was performed using PASW Statistics ver. 18.0, and the following conclusions were drawn. Cultural knowledge levels showed a significant difference according to general characteristics in four components of cultural competence levels. Cultural competence and its four components were higher in subjects who have a religion (p<0.05). The differences in cultural competence levels according to culture-related characteristics are as follows. In individuals with experience of taking foreign culture-related classes, intention to work overseas, or fluency in a foreign language, cultural competence levels and its four components such as cultural comfort, knowledge, awareness, and behavior intent were higher (p<0.05). Intention of overseas employment was the factor most strongly influencing the level of cultural competence of the subjects. The more intention the subjects have to work overseas, the more they have experienced foreign culture-related lessons, the more fluently they speak a foreign language, and the higher level of cultural competency they reached (p<0.05). As the research results show, it is necessary to establish a continuing plan to understand and communicate with individuals of other cultures through foreign language and foreign culture classes in schools in order to improve the level of cultural competence. This education would reduce the fear and stress that subjects might make a mistake in meeting with people from other cultures, and it could be a preparatory process to actively carry out dental hygiene practice with foreigners.

한국 간호사의 국제적 이동 (International Migration of Korean Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study investigated the Korean nurses' international migration to provide the basic data for establishing plans of supply and demand for nurses and the status of Korean nurses' application for foreign nurse licenses and overseas employment. Method: The subjects were 5.447 nurses who requested English written nurse license to the Ministry of Health and Welfare for the application of foreign nurse license examinations and overseas employment. Human Resources Development of Korea provided documents of nurses migrated to Saudi Arabia. Data were collected from December, 2002 to July, 2003 and analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Result: The total applicants for foreign nurse license were 3,149 for 2 years. In the year 2001, 1.129 nurses applied, 2,020 nurses in the year 2002. Out of 3,149 total subjects, 2,705(85.9%)nurses applied for U. S. A. nurse license. Eighty percent of the applicants of the U. S. A. nurse license examination applied for the New York states. The number of applicants for Canada was 215(6.8%), followed by Australia 88(2.8%), U. K. 86(2.7%), and New Zealand 45(1.4%). Average age of the applicants was 31, 49.0% of them were in their twenties. Three year college graduates accounted for 64.1% B.S.N. 33.9%. Applicants graduated from universities or colleges of Seoul area were 37.3%, followed by Daegu. The total number of nurses employed overseas were 1,291 during 2001 and 2002. Seven hundred thirty eight nurses(57.2%) were employed in the U. S. A.. Average age was 34, 60.9% were 3year college graduates, nurses graduated from Seoul area were 44.9%. No one applied for Saudi Arabian nurse license, 172 nurses were employed during 1999 and 2002, 39.5% of them were in their thirties. Conclusion: The results of this study shows relatively young and experienced nurses have intention to migrate internationally and they actually migrate to other countries. Comparing the number of nurses migrating to other country with the number of newly issued nurse licenses in Korea every year. the percentage of overseas employment was relatively high. To cope with Korean nurses international migration. new policy to monitor the status of nurse's international migration and an institution to deal with the affairs should be established. And the further study is needed to measure nurse's competence and influencing factors of Korean nurses employed in the U. S. A.

치위생과, 간호과 학생의 의료시장개방에 대한 인식 및 태도에 관한 연구 (A Study on dental hygiene and nursing students' perception and attitudes about medical market opening)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted during the period from August 30 to September 9, 2011 in order to survey difference in the general perception of medical market opening and factors related to the choice of foreign hospitals among dental hygiene and nursing students at universities in Seoul. Methods : For this purpose, 438 students were surveyed using a questionnaire and collected data were analyzed using SPSSWIN 18.0. Conclusions drawn from this study are as follows. Results : 1. With regard to dental hygiene and nursing students' perception of medical market opening according to general characteristics, significant difference was not observed according to gender, experience in working at a hospital, medical institution used, and the frequency of using medical institutions, but significant difference was observed according to department, and interest in healthcare-related news. 2. There was significant difference in dental hygiene and nursing students'pro/con attitude toward medical market opening, but not in gender, experience in working at a hospital, medical institution used, and the frequency of using medical institutions. 3. With regard to intention to visit and revisit foreign hospitals, there was significant difference between dental hygiene and nursing students in intention to visit but not in intention to revisit. Conclusions : The results of this study suggest that more research on the medical market opening portion dental hygiene and nursing students' perception and attitude did not differ significantly, so the more accurate and open markets for a variety of medical education and school education and a variety of materials through hands-on experience be grasped should allow. Furthermore, students' acquisition of accurate prior knowledge about medical market opening is expected to be helpful to activate their employment in overseas.

한국인의 북한 관광의사와 북한 지역경제 효과 (South Korean Demand for Tourism in North Korea and the Impact of their Expenses on the North Korean Regional Economy)

  • 본 연구는 북·중 및 북·중·러 접경지역을 경유한 북한관광에 대한 한국인의 수요를 추정하고, 북한지역에서 지출할 것으로 예상되는 관광지출액을 도출하여, 북한 지역경제 파급효과를 추정하였다. 북한 방문이 가능한 상황을 전제로 향후 5년 이내에 해당 지역을 방문할 의향이 있는지 물어 본 결과 응답자의 약 64.1%가 방문하겠다고 답하였다. 응답자의 방문의사를 기초로 마켓팅분야의 구매의도분석을 적용하여 수요를 도출한 결과 관광수요는 연간 연인원 4,136,361명으로 나타났다. 1인당 평균지출액은 153만 2천원, 총지출액은 6조 3,369억원으로 나타났다. 총지출액 중에서 항공료를 제외한 후 방문지역마다 균등하게 지출한다는 가정하에, 북한지역에 지출될 금액을 추정해 본 결과 2조 8,387억원으로 나타났다. 이 지출액이 북한 지역경제에 미칠 후방파급효과는 총생산유발 7조 9,721억원, 부가가치유발 2조 6,194억원, 취업유발 약 2,890,443명으로 나타났다. 추정한 부가가치유발효과는 한국은행이 추계한 2020년 북한 명목 GDP의 약 7.6%에 달하는 것으로 나타나, 한국인의 북한관광에 따른 지출은 북한 지역경제에 유의미한 영향을 줄 것으로 보인다. 한국인의 해외여행 증가에 따라 북한관광수요도 꾸준히 증가할 가능성이 있으므로 여건이 개선된다면, 북한 관광인프라개발을 위한 남북협력도 필요하다.
