  • This paper deals with a control technique of eliminating the transient vibration of a waist axis of an articulated robot. This technique is based on a model-based control in order to establish the damping effect on the mechanical part. The control model is composed of reduced-order electrical and mechanical parts. This model estimates a load speed converted to the motor shaft. The difference between the estimated load speed and the motor speed is calculated dynamically and is added to the velocity command to suppress the transient vibration of a waist axis of the arm. This control model is easily obtained from design or experimental data and can be easily integrated into a DSP. This control technique is applied to a waist axis of an articulated robot composed of a harmonic drive ...

  • Topology optimization is widely accepted as a conceptual design tool for the product design. Since the resulted layout of the topology optimization is a kind of digital images represented by the density distribution, the seamless process is required to transform digital images to the CAD model for the practical use. In this paper, the general process to construct a CAD model is developed to apply for topology images based on elements. The node density and the morphology technique are adopted to extract boundary contour of the shape and remove the noise of images through erosion and dilation operation. The proposed method automatically generates point data sets of the geometric model. The process is integrated with Pro/Engineer, so that the engineer in practice can directly handle with curves or surfaces form digital images.

  • For an accurate prediction of the temperature Held induced by surface discharge of heated water into an ambient cross-flow field. a three-dimensional near-field numerical model using k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence clousure is developed Rather restricted as it is, the numerical results of the model agree well with the experimental data. The developed model simulates quite adequately the stratification, gravitational lateral spreading, and upward entrainment of thermal jet which cannot be simulated by a depth-integrated two-dimensional numerical model, as well as the interaction with cross-flow.

  • For several years, researchers have focused on improving the integration of the CAD, CAM and Analysis through a better communication between the various analysis tools. This tendency to integrate the CAD/Analysis and automation of the corresponding processes requires data sharing between the various tasks using an integrated product model. We are interested in this research orientation to CAD/CAM/Analysis integration by rebuilding the CAD model (BREP), starting from the Analysis results (deformed mesh). Because this problem is complex, it requires to be split into several complementary parts. This paper presents an original interoperability process between the CAD and CAE. This approach is based on a new technique of rebuilding the CAD surface model (Nurbs, Bezier, etc.) starting from triangulation (meshed surface) as a main step of the BREP solid model. In our work, the advantages of this approach are identified using a centrifugal pump example.

  • This study presents a reference model (RM) and the architecture of a cognitive health advisor (CHA) that integrates information with ambient intelligence. By controlling the information using the CHA platform, the reference model can provide various ambient intelligent solutions to a user. Herein, a novel approach to a CHA RM based on evolutional cyber-physical systems is proposed. The objective of the CHA RM is to improve personal health by managing data integration from many devices as well as conduct a new feedback cycle, which includes training and consulting to improve quality of life. The RM can provide an overview of the basis for implementing concrete software architectures. The proposed RM provides a standardized clarification for developers and service designers in the design and implementation process. The CHA RM provides a new approach to developing a digital healthcare model that includes integrated systems, subsystems, and components. New features for chatbots and feedback functions set the position of the conversational interface system to improve human health by integrating information, analytics, and decisions and feedback as an advisor on the CHA platform.

  • Context-sensitive spelling-error correction methods are largely classified into rule-based methods and statistical data-based methods, the latter of which is often preferred in research. Statistical error correction methods consider context-sensitive spelling error problems as word-sense disambiguation problems. The method divides a vocabulary pair, for correction, which consists of a correction target vocabulary and a replacement candidate vocabulary, according to the context. The present paper proposes a method that integrates a word-phrase n-gram model into a conventional model in order to improve the performance of the probability model by using a correction vocabulary pair, which was a result of a previous study performed by this research team. The integrated model suggested in this paper includes a method used to interpolate the probability of a sentence calculated through each model and a method used to apply the models, when both methods are sequentially applied. Both aforementioned types of integrated models exhibit relatively high accuracy and reproducibility when compared to conventional models or to a model that uses only an n-gram.

  • The objective of this paper presents the application of an "integrated urban flood modeling-runoff model, urban flood model and sewer system model-" in a highly urbanized area of Samcheok where is seriously inundated in 2002 and 2003. For this, we demonstrate how couple a 1-D hydrodynamic model of the river, a 2-D hydrodynamic model of the overland (surface) flow, and a sewer network model including each boundary conditions. In order to make data file for the model, topographic information like elevation and share rate of buildings are directly extracted from DEM or topographical source data without data exchange to avoid uncertainty errors. Furthermore, the research is to assess the impacts of Manning n and buildings influences to inundated depth by changing its share ratio from 10 % to 30 % in low-land urban area. As a results, we found out that the urban inundated depth was decreased by Manning n but increased by buildings ratio. The calculated results of inundation was similar with observed one in 2002 and 2003 flooding. Furthermore, the area was also inundated under not riverbank break case in 2002 flooding.

  • Most of fires were human-caused fires in Korea, but meteorological factors are also big contributors to fire behavior and its spread. Thus, meteorological factors as well as topographical and forest factors were considered in the fire danger rating systems. This study aims to develop an advanced national integrated daily weather index(DWI) using weather data in the spring and fall to support forest fire prevention strategy in South Korea. DWI represents the meteorological characteristics, such as humidity (relative and effective), temperature and wind speed, and we integrated nine logistic regression models of the past into one national model. One national integrated model of the spring and fall is respectively $[1+{\exp}\{-(2.706+(0.088^*T_{mean})-(0.055^*Rh)-(0.023^*Eh)-(0.014^*W_{mean}))\}^{-1}]^{-1}$, $[1+{\exp}\{-(1.099+(0.117^*T_{mean})-(0.069^*Rh)-(0.182^*W_{mean}))\}^{-1}]^{-1}$ and all weather variables significantly (p<0.01) affected the probability of forest fire occurrence in the overall regions. The accuracy of the model in the spring and fall is respectively 71.7% and 86.9%. One integrated national model showed 10% higher accuracy than nine logistic regression models when it is applied weather data with 66 random sampling in forest fire event days. These findings would be necessary for the policy makers in the Republic of Korea for the prevention of forest fires.

  • In this study, we developed real-time urban stream discharge forecasting model using short-term rainfall forecasts data simulated by a regional climate model (RCM). The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Climate Forecasting System (CFS) data was used as a boundary condition for the RCM, namely the Global/Regional Integrated Model System(GRIMs)-Regional Model Program (RMP). In addition, we make ensemble (ESB) forecast with different lead time from 1-day to 3-day and its accuracy was validated through temporal correlation coefficient (TCC). The simulated rainfall is compared to observed data, which are automatic weather stations (AWS) data and Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multisatellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA 3B43; 3 hourly rainfall with $0.25^{\circ}{\times}0.25^{\circ}$ resolution) data over midland of Korea in July 26-29, 2011. Moreover, we evaluated urban rainfall-runoff relationship using Storm Water Management Model (SWMM). Several statistical measures (e.g., percent error of peak, precent error of volume, and time of peak) are used to validate the rainfall-runoff model's performance. The correlation coefficient (CC) and the Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) are evaluated. The result shows that the high correlation was lead time (LT) 33-hour, LT 27-hour, and ESB forecasts, and the NSE shows positive values in LT 33-hour, and ESB forecasts. Through this study, it can be expected to utilizing the real-time urban flood alert using short-term weather forecast.

  • The real-time railway safety monitoring and control system is for prevention of safety accidents, and this system adopts DDS (Data Distribution Service) standard based data transmission method to support integrated management of data from existing on-site safety detection devices. In this paper, we introduce the design of DDS-based data specification from on-site signal equipment on the conventional railway. For this, we (1) design UML data model of KRS SG 0062 standard which defines existing data specification, (2) define DDS Topics for DDS transmission and map KRS model to DDS Topic model, (3) suggest data transformation rules and (4) design network control QoS polices. In addition, we analysis actual on-site log data and validate our data specification design. DDS-based data transmission enables data compatibility among on-site devices and the real-time railway safety monitoring and control system, and allows efficient network management for a large amount of data transfer.
