  • GPS Receiver gives pseudorange Doppler and integrated carrier phase for measurements to compute navigation information.   • This paper presents a 3D carrier-smoothed GNSS/DR (Global Navigation Satellite System/Dead Reckoning) integrated system for precise ground-vehicle trajectory estimation. For precise DR navigation on sloping roads, the AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) methodology is employed. By combining the integrated carrier phase of GNSS and DR sensor measurements, a vehicle trajectory with an accuracy of less than 20cm is obtained even when cycle slip or change of visibility occur. In order to supplement the weak GNSS environment with DR successfully, the DR sensor is precisely compensated for using GNSS Doppler measurements when GNSS visibility is good. By integrating a multi-GNSS receiver with low-cost IMU, a precise 3D navigation system for land vehicles is proposed in this paper. For real-time implementation, a decoupled Kalman filter is employed in the integrated system. Through field experiments, the performance of the proposed system is verified in various road environments, including sloping roads, good-visibility areas, high multi-path areas, and under-ground parking areas.

  • When the signals from satellite vehicles are blocked, it is impossible to provide positioning information. Integrating CDGPS with INS, the performances of output can be greatly improved. In the CDGPS/INS integrated system, the error growth in INS can be efficiently suppressed due to CDGPS. On the contrary, the search range of integer ambiguities can be reduced with the aids of INS.   • Cascaded H-bridge multilevel (CHBML) inverters usually include a large number of isolated dc-voltage sources. Some faults in the dc-voltage sources result in unequal cell dc voltages. Unfortunately, the conventional phase-shifted carrier (PSC) PWM method that is widely used for CHBML inverters cannot eliminate low frequency sideband harmonics when the cell dc voltages are not equal. This paper analyzes the principle of sideband harmonic elimination, and proposes an improved PSCPWM that can eliminate low frequency sideband harmonics under the condition of unequal dc voltages. In order to calculate the carrier phases, it is necessary to solve transcendental equations for low frequency sideband harmonic elimination. Therefore, an approach based on the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm is presented in this paper. The proposed PSCPWM method enhances the reliability of CHBML inverters. The proposed PSCPWM is not limited to CHBML inverters. It can also be applied to other types of multilevel inverters. Simulation and experimental result obtained from a prototype CHBML inverter verify the theoretical analysis and the achievements made in this paper.

Development of a CSGPS/DR Integrated System for High-precision Trajectory Estimation for the Purpose of Vehicle Navigation

  • In this study, a carrier smoothed global positioning system / dead reckoning (CSGPS/DR) integrated system for high-precision trajectory estimation for the purpose of vehicle navigation was proposed. Existing code-based GPS has a low position accuracy, and carrier-phase differential global positioning system (CPDGPS) has a long waiting time for high-precision positioning and has a problem of high cost due to the establishment of infrastructure. To resolve this, the continuity of a trajectory was guaranteed by integrating CSGPS and DR. The results of the experiment indicated that the trajectory precision of the code-based GPS showed an error performance of more than 30cm, while that of the CSGPS/DR integrated system showed an error performance of less than 10cm. Based on this, it was found that the trajectory precision of the proposed CSGPS/DR integrated system is superior to that of the code-based GPS.

  • As an application of SDINS/GPS integration for its synergistic results, the SDINS alignments utilizing GPS carrier phase rate measurements. A measurement model of GPS carrier phase rate is derived in order to be used with SDINS alignment process. For in-flight alignment, the performance of the suggested SDINS/GPS integration method is analyzed using the covariance analysis and its results are confirmed by those of van test. Consequently, it is shown that all states of the SDINS integrated system by utilizing GPS carrier phase rate measurements can be estimated more efficiently than a general SDINS/GPS during in-flight alignment.

  • This paper aims at developing an integrated fleet management support system for industrial carriers who usually control the vessels of their own or on a time charter to minimize the cost of shipping their cargoes. The work is mainly concerned with the operational management problem of the fleet owned by a major oil company, a typical industrial carrier. The optimal fleet management problem for the major oil company can be divided into two phase problem. The front end corresponds to the production operation problem of the transportation of crude oil, the refinery operation, and the distribution of product oil to comply with the demand of the market. The back end is to tackle the fleet scheduling problem to meet the seaborne transportation demand derived from the front end. Relevant optimization models for each phase are proposed and described briefly. Then a user-friendly integrated fleet management support system is built based on the proposed optimization models for both ends under Windows environment. A case study reflecting the practices of fleet management problem for the major oil company is carried out by using the system.

Cycle Slip Detection and Ambiguity Resolution for High Accuracy of an Intergrated GPS/Pseudolite/INS System

  • This paper addresses solutions th the challenges of carrier phase integer ambiguity resolution and cycle slip detection/identification, for maintaining high accuracy of an integrated GPS/Pseudolite/INS system. Such a hybrid positioning and navigation system is an augmentation of standard GPS/INS systems in localized areas. To achieve the goal of high accuracy, the carrier phase measurements with correctly estimated integer ambiguities must be utilized to update the system integration filter's states. The contribution presents an effective approach to increase the reliability and speed of integer ambiguity resolution through using pseudolite and INS measurements, with special emphasis on reducing the ambiguity search space. In addition, an algorithm which can effectively detect and correct the cycle slips is described as well. The algorithm utilizes additional position information provided by the INS, and applies a statistical technique known as th cumulative-sun (CUSUM) test that is very sensitive to abrupt changes of mean values. Results of simulation studies and field tests indicate that the algorithms are performed pretty well, so that the accuracy and performance of the integrated system can be maintained, even if cycle slips exist in the raw GPS measurements.

  • The GPS attitude output or carrier phase observables can be effectively utilized to compensate the attitude error of the strapdown inertial navigation system. However, when the integer ambiguity is not correctly resolved and/or a cycle slip occurs, an erroneous GPS output can be obtained. If the erroneous GPS information is directly applied to the AGPS/INS integration system, the performance of the system can be rapidly degraded. This paper proposes an AGPS/INS integration system using the triple difference carrier phase observables. The proposed integration system contains a cycle slip detection algorithm, in which inertial information is combined. Computer simulations and van test were performed to verify the proposed integration system. The results show that the proposed system gives an accurate and reliable navigation solution even when the integer ambiguity is not correct and the cycle slip occurs.
