Functionally graded material (FGM) illustrates a novel class of composites that consists of a graded pattern of material composition. FGM is engineered to have a continuously varying spatial composition profile. Current work focused on buckling analysis of beam made of stepwise linear and quadratic graded material in axial direction subjected to axial span-load with piecewise function and rested on shear layer based on classical beam theory. The various boundary and natural conditions including simply supported (S-S), pinned - clamped (P-C), axial hinge - pinned (AH-P), axial hinge - clamped (AH-C), pinned - shear hinge (P-SHH), pinned - shear force released (P-SHR), axial hinge - shear force released (AH-SHR) and axial hinge - shear hinge (AH-SHH) are considered. To the best of the author's knowledge, buckling behavior of this kind of Euler-Bernoulli beams has not been studied yet. The equilibrium differential equation is derived by minimizing total potential energy via variational calculus and solved analytically. The boundary conditions, natural conditions and deformation continuity at concentrated load insertion point are expressed in matrix form and nontrivial solution is employed to calculate first buckling loads and corresponding mode shapes. By increasing truncation order, the relative error reduction and convergence of solution are observed. Fast convergence and good compatibility with various conditions are advantages of the proposed method. A MATLAB code is provided in appendix to employ the numerical procedure based on proposed method.

In this paper, a diplexer circuit to separate GSM/CDMA band is designed using a LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) multi-layer technology. In order to increase a integration capability of the diplexer, it is designed in 6-layer LTCC sunstrate with a elative dielectric constant of 7.2 using 3-dimensional (3-D) multi-layer inductors and capacitors. The size of the designed diplexer including CB-CPW pads is $3,450{\times}4,000{\times}600{\mu}m^3$. An insertion loss (IL) and return loss of GSM band are less than -0.23dB and -10dB, respectively. In the case of CDMA band, the IL of -0.53dB and RL of below -10dB are archieved.

The electron/hole injections in organic electronic devices have long been an issue due to the large energy level mismatches between electrode and organic layer. To utilize the organic materials in electronic devices, functional thin layers have been used, which reduce the electron/hole injection barrier from electrode to organic material. Typically, inorganic compounds and organic molecules are used as an electron and hole injection layer, respectively. Recently, CsN3 and 1,4,5,8,- naphthalene-tetracarboxylic-dianhydride (NTCDA) are reported as a potential electron and hole injection layers. CsN3 shows unique properties that it breaks into Cs and N and thus Cs can dope organic layer into n-type. On the other side, hole injection anode, NTCDA forms gap states with anode material. In this presentation, we show the electronic structure changes upon the insertion of CsN3 and NTCDA at proper interfaces to reduce the charge injection barriers. These barrier reductions are correlated with device characteristics.
Ultra thin layers of NiFeCo or NiFe were inserted at the interfaces of Ni and Cu to form a multilayer structure. In case of inserting a NiFe layer, the magnetoresistance was about 6%, the saturation magnetic field was 50 Oe and the hysteresis of R-H (resistance-magnetic field) was very small. In case of inserting a NiFeCo layer, the magnetoresistance increased to about 7% but the saturation magnetic field and hysteresis were also increased. The increase of the output under biased magnetic field was much larger in case of inserting a NiFe layer because of relatively smaller hysteresis in R-H behavior.

Graphene oxide (GO) membranes have attracted extensive attention in water treatment and related fields. However, GO films are unstable and have low permeability, which have hindered their further development. In this paper, a simple and effective method was used in which GO and single-layer graphene (GN) were mixed, and the layer spacing was effectively controlled by accurately controlling the ratio of GO to GN. GO-GN composite membranes have excellent stability, salt rejection (95.4%), and water flux (26 L m-2 h-1 bar-1). This unique design structure can be used for precise and effective regulation of the layer spacing in GO, improving the rejection rate, and increasing water flux via the enhancement of low-friction capillary action. The rational development and use of this unique composite membrane provides a reference for the water treatment field.

Transparent conducting films having a hybrid structure of GZO/Metal/GZO were prepared on glass substrates by sequential deposition using DC magnetron sputtering. Silver, copper, aluminum and zinc thin films were used as the intermediate metal layers in the hybrid structure. The electrical and optical properties of hybrid transparent conducting films were investigated with varying the thickness of metal layer or GZO layers. With increasing the metal thickness, hybrid films showed a noticeable improvement of the electrical conductivity, which is mainly dependent on the electrical property of the metal layer. GZO(40 nm)/Ag(10 nm)/GZO(40 nm) film exhibits a resistivity of $5.2{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ with an optical transmittance of 82.8%. For the films with Zn interlayer, only marginal reduction in the resistivity was observed. Furthermore, unlike other metals, hybrid films with Zn interlayer showed a decrease in the resistivity with increasing the GZO thickness. The optimal thickness of GZO layer for anti-reflection effect at a given thickness of metal (10 nm) was found to be critically dependent on the refractive index of the metal. In addition, x-ray diffraction analysis showed that the insertion of Ag layer resulted in the improvement of crystallinity of GZO films, which is beneficial for the electrical and optical properties of hybrid-type transparent conducting films.
In this study, we have investigated the role of a metal oxide hole injection layer (HIL) between an Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) electrode and an organic hole transporting layer (HTL) in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Nickel Oxide films were deposited at different deposition times of 0 to 60 seconds, thus leading to a thickness from 0 to 15 nm on ITO/glass substrates. To study the influence of NiO film thickness on the properties of OLEDs, the relationships between NiO/ITO morphology and surface properties have been studied by UV-visible spectroscopy measurements and AFM microscopy. The dependences of the I-V-L properties on the thickness of the NiO layers were examined. Comparing these with devices without an NiO buffer layer, turn-on voltage and luminance have been obviously improved by using the NiO buffer layer with a thickness smaller than 10 nm in OLEDs. Moreover, the efficiency of the device ITO/NiO (< 5 nm)/NPB/$Alq_3$/ LiF/Al has increased two times at the same operation voltage (8V). Insertion of a thin NiO layer between the ITO and HTL enhances the hole injection, which can increase the device efficiency and decrease the turn-on voltage, while also decreasing the interface roughness.

Purpose: Nowadays spinal cord stimulator is frequently used for the patients diagnosed as complex regional pain syndrome. The lead is placed above the spinal cord and connected to the stimulation generator, which is mostly placed in the subcutaneous layer of the abdomen. When the complication occurs in the generator inserted site, such as infection or generator exposure, replacement of the new generator to another site or pocket of the abdomen would be the classical choice. The objective of our study is to present our experience of the effective replacement of the existing stimulation generator from subcutaneous layer to another layer in same site after the wound infection at inexpensive cost and avoidance of new scar formation. Methods: A 50-year-old man who was diagnosed as complex regional pain syndrome after traffic accident received spinal cord stimulator, Synergy$^{(R)}$ (Medtronic, Minneapolis, USA) insertion 1 month ago by anesthetist. The patient was referred to our department for wound infection management. The patient was presented with erythema, swelling, thick discharge and wound disruption in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. After surgical debridement of the capsule, the existing generator replacement beneath the anterior layer of rectus sheath was performed after sterilization by alcohol. Results: Patient's postoperative course was uneventful without any complication and had no evidence of infection for 3 months follow-up period. Conclusion: Replacement of existing spinal cord stimulation generator after sterilization between the anterior layer of rectus sheath and rectus abdominis muscle in the abdomen will be an alternative treatment in wound infection of stimulator generator.

Recently, patterned magnetic films and elements attract a wide interest due to their technological potentials in ultrahigh-density magnetic recording and spintronic devices. Among those patterned magnetic structures, magnetic anti-dot patterning induces a strong shape anisotropy in the film, which can control the magnetic properties such as coercivity, permeability, magnetization reversal process, and magneto-resistance. While majority of the previous works have been concentrated on anti-dot arrays with a single magnetic layer, there has been little work on multilayered anti-dot arrays. In this work, we report on study of the magnetic properties of bilayered anti-dot system consisting of upper perforated Co layer of 40 nm and lower continuous Ni layer of 5 nm thick, fabricated by photolithography and wet-etching processes. The magnetic hysteresis (M-H) loops were measured with a superconducting-quantum-interference-device (SQUID) magnetometer (Quantum Design: MPMS). For comparison, investigations on continuous Co thin film and single-layer Co anti-dot arrays were also performed. The magnetic-domain configuration has been measured by using a magnetic force microscope (PSIA: XE-100) equipped with magnetic tips (Nanosensors). An external electromagnet was employed while obtaining the MFM images. The MFM images revealed well-defined periodic domain networks which arise owing to the anisotropies such as magnetic uniaxial anisotropy, configurational anisotropy, etc. The inclusion of holes in a uniform magnetic film and the insertion of a uniform thin Ni layer, drastically affected the coercivity as compared with single Co anti-dot array, without severely affecting the saturation magnetization ($M_s$). The observed changes in the magnetic properties are closely related to the patterning that hinders the domain-wall motion as well as to the magneto-anisotropic bilayer structure.

Purpose: This study aims at investigating the influence of various insertion torques on thermal changes of bone. A proper insertion torque is derived based on the thermal analysis with two different implant designs. Materials and methods: For implant materials, bovine scapula bone of 15 - 20 mm thickness was cut into 35 mm by 40 - 50 mm pieces. Of these, the pieces having 2 - 3 mm thickness cortical bone were used as samples. Then, the half of the sample was immersed in a bath of $36.5^{\circ}C$ and the other half was exposed to ambient temperature of $25^{\circ}C$, so that the inner and surface temperatures reached $36.5^{\circ}C$ and $28^{\circ}C$, respectively. Two types of implants ($4.5{\times}10\;mm$ Br${\aa}$nemark type, $4.8{\times}10\;mm$ Microthread type) were inserted into bovine scapula bone and the temperature was measured by a thermocouple at 0.2 mm from the measuring point. Finite element method (FEM) was used to analyze the thermal changes at contacting surface assuming that the sample is a cube of $4\;cm{\times}4\;cm{\times}2\;cm$ and a layer up to 2 mm from the top is cortical bone and below is a cancellous bone. Boundary conditions were set on the basis of the shape of cavity after implants. SolidWorks was used as a CAD program with the help of Abaqus 6.9-1. Results: In the in-vitro experiment, the Microhead type implant gives a higher maximum temperature than that of the Br${\aa}$nemark type, which is attributed to high frictional heat that is associated with the implant shape. In both types, an Eriksson threshold was observed at torques of 50 Ncm (Br${\aa}$nemark) and 35 Ncm (Microthread type), respectively. Based on these findings, the Microthread type implant is more affected by insertion torques. Conclusion: This study demonstrate that a proper choice of insertion torque is important when using a specific type of implant. In particular, for the Microthread type implant, possible bone damage may be expected as a result of frictional heat, which compensates for initial high success rate of fixation. Therefore, the insertion torque should be adjusted for each implant design. Furthermore, the operation skills should be carefully chosen for each implant type and insertion torque.
