Comparison of community structure of sulfate reducing bacteria in rice paddy and dry farming soils (논과 밭 토양의 황산염 환원세균 군집 구조 비교)

  • The goal of this study was to identify relationships between the composition of sulfate reducing bacterial assemblages and terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) patterns in rice paddy and dry farming soils. Samples of organic farming soils, conventional farming soils, and dry field farming soils were collected in August and November. Analyses of the soil chemical composition revealed similar total nitrogen, total carbon and total inorganic phosphorus levels; however, the moisture content and total carbon were higher than in the other soils in both August and November, respectively. Sulfate reducing bacteria utilizing lactic acid were more widely distributed than those that used acetic acid, and the number of sulfate reducing bacteria in organic farming soil was most abundant. Phylogenetic analysis based on 181 clones revealed that most showed low similarity with cultured sulfate reducing bacteria, but more than 90% similarity with an uncultured sulfate reducing bacteria isolated from the environment. T-RFLP analysis revealed that fragments of 91, 357, 395, and 474 bp were most common, and the community structure of sulfate reducing bacteria changed seasonally.

Influences of the Starting Salts on the Powder Characteristics of the Pb(Zr, Ti)$O_3$ Powders Prepared by Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis (원료염의 종류가 초음파 분무 열분해법에 의해 제조된 Pb(Zr, Ti)$O_3$미분말의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Influences of the starting salts on the phase and morphology of the Pb(Zr, T)O$_3$powders prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis were studied. The Phases of the Powders Prepared from the combination of metal nitrate(or oxynitrate), acetate(or oxyacetate), and alkoxide were the Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_3$with or without minor PbTiO$_3$. The pores on the surface of the spherical particles increased with the nitrate content in the starting solution and their formation was thought to result from the decomposition characteristics of metal nitrate. Pb acetate, Zr oxyacetate, Ti oxynitrate, and Ti (isopropoxide+acetylacetonate) was suitable as the starting salts for the preparation of Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_3$powders by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis in the viewpoint of the phase and morphology of the powders.

Elemental Analysis of Bottom Ash from Incinerator by Neutron Activation Analysis (중성자 방사화분석법을 이용한 소각로 바닥재의 원소분석)

  • Inorganic elemental content of bottom ash generated from municipal solid waste incinerator was determined by neutron activation analysis. Bottom ash samples were collected monthly from incinerator located in city D, strained out by the 5 mm sieve, dried by oven and pulverized by agate mortar. The samples were irradiated at NAA #1 irradiation hole in HANARO research reactor of Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the irradiated samples were measured by HPGe-gamma-ray spectrometer. From the activity of measured nuclides, 33 elements including As, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Sb and Zn were determined applying activity creation formula and nuclear data. The quality control was conducted by simultaneous analysis with NIST standard reference materials.

Physiological and Ecological Response of Agronomic Characters Related to Source and Sink in Rice (벼의 Source와 Sink 관련형질의 생리생태적 반응)

  • This experiment was conducted to study the physiological and ecological responses of agronomic characters related to source and sink relation in rice. Standard deviation and coefficient of variability of agronomic characters by individual tiller were greatly influenced by the lower internodes in the length of internode, flag leaf in the leaf blade, lower leaf blade in the leaf width, and the number and spikelets of secondary rachis branch in panicle. In relation to the parts of source and sink of rice plant and the number of spikelet in panicle, the number of spikelet was significantly correlated with the length and leaf area of second leaf blade, the length of second internode, and culm diameter of third internode. The correlation of the length of panicle with the length of internode and leaf blade was greatly influenced by the length of second leaf blade and second internode. The number of spikelet was increased with increasing the second rachis branch rather than first rachis branch. The content of total inorganic nutrients was greatest at leaf blade followed by leaf sheath and internode, and panicle.

  • Titanium and zirconium-containing MFI type zeolites have been prepared hydrothermally. Incorporation of titanium or zirconium into the framework of zeolite has been demonstrated by XRD, FT-IR, $^{29}Si$ MAS NMR analysis, and the catalytic benzene hydroxylation or n-hexane oxidation was used for checking the properties of catalysts. Pure titania and zirconia powder showed no catalytic activity at all for these reactions but Ti and Zr modified zeolite had the high activities in both reactions. The catalytic activity strongly depended on the kind of solvents, and the conversion of benzene or n-hexane increased with the increasing content of Ti and Zr in zeolites.

Effect of Ceramics in the Nutrient Solution on the Growth of Chinese Flat Cabbage (양액내 세라믹 처리가 청경채의 생장에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of ceramics in the nutrient solution on the growth of Chinese flat cabbage(Brassica campestris L. var. Tacai) was studied at the favourable root temperature of 3$0^{\circ}C$ and at the greenhouse air temperature of fixed $25^{\circ}C$. Ceramic No. 2 was produced the greatest dry weight, while ceramic No. 3 was lower productive than those of untreatment in each root temperature. Shoot/root dry weight ratio was reduced at treatments with ceramics, which may be explained by rich root growth, and it increased as raising the temperature from 25 to 3$0^{\circ}C$ or 35$^{\circ}C$. The treatments of ceramics made lower water content/dry weight($m\ell$/g) ratio of Tacai than untreatment. The electrical conductivity and inorganic matters of ceramics were low level(EC 0.001 -0.03mS/cm). Also, the blue ceramic No. 3 of them had strong antibacteria in LB medium and ceramic treatments was inhibited the rot of solution.

Combustion Characteristics of Swine Manure, Poultry Manure and Mixtures (돈분, 계분 그리고 혼합물에 대한 연소특성)

  • In this work, the combustive properties of the swine manure, poultry manure, and mixtures based on the resource recycling-energy were investigated. After the specimens were dried to a constant weight by dry oven, combustive properties were tested by the cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). It was found that the peak effective heat of combustion (PEHC) in the swine manure (78.72 MJ/kg) has risen due to more amount of the hydrocabon compared with poultry manure (69.41 MJ/kg), also the swine manure increased both of the higher $CO_2$ production rate (0.1959 g/s) and total smoke release rate (THRR) ($419m^2/m^2$) than those of the poultry manure. However, both of the CO production release (0.0996 kg/kg) and CO production rate (0034 g/s) in the poultry manure increased due to more amount of the inorganic contents compared with swine manure. Thus, the high combustion energy is expected to generate depend on the hydrocarbon content.

Physicochemical Properties of Several Potato Starches (품종별 감자 전분의 이화학적 특성)

  • The physicochemical properties and characteristics of potato starches which were isolated from the six varieties were investigated. The ash content of starch prepared from the Arkula showed lower than that of the other five samples. The shapes of starch granules were oval and round, and the average diameters were in the range of $25{\sim}26.9$ microns. The main constituents of the inorganic components of each starch sample were found to be phosphorus and potassium. The amylose contents of starches were between $27.2{\sim}32%$, and blue value, alkali numbers were in the range of $0.42{\sim}0.45$ and $5.8{\sim}7.7$, respectively. Amylograph data revealed that Nook Sack had the highest viscosity at all reference points. The swelling power and solubility patterns were negligible until $50^{\circ}C$, thereafter it increased rapidly.

  • Three isocyanatopropyldimethoxysilylpolydimethylsiloxanes(IDMSi-PDMS) were synthesised from the reaction of isocyanatopropyltrimethoxysilane with monohydroxyl group termainated PDMS having different molecular weight($M_n$=5000, 10000, and 20000). Then PDMS modified polyurethane hybrid elastomer(PSMPH) were prepared from the reaction of IDMSi-PDMS with ${\alpha}$, ${\omega}$-hydroxyl group terminated polyurethane. PSMPH sealant was prepared by compounding PSMPH elastomer with additives such as plasticizer, adhesion promoter, crosslinking agent, vicosity increasing agent, inorganic filler, and catalyst at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere. The methoxy group in the PSMPH sealant should be crosslinked with the hydroxyl group in the building stone or moisture by typical sol-gel reaction. The adhesive strength of the sealant having PDMS of $M_n$=5000 showed 40.28 kg of maxium load and 20.14 kg of break load. The shrinkage rate of the sealant having PDMS of $M_n$=20000 was 5.7% as the best result. Also, their skin over time, slump, oil content after 8 days under oil soaked paper and alkaline resistance characteristics show good results.

Effect of Soil Mixture on the Growth of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum KITAMURA (분화용 배양토가 구절초의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the combination of proper culture medium for differentiation culture of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum KITAMURA. The combinations of culture medium were consisted with an inorganic materials such as vermiculite, perlite, saprolite, sand and upland top soil, and with an organic materials such as peat-moss, leaf mold and compost. For the plant growth characteristics, the plant height, number of tiller, root length and root weight in the combination of leaf mold was relatively great as compared to the treatment with peat-moss and compost. It was considered that humus might be contributed to improve the physical properties of soil as well as the sequential nutrient supply. For the combination of peat-moss, the plant growth was not good because of not sufficient nutrient supply, Also, the plant growth in the treatment of compost was so bad because of enhancement of culture medium pH 8.9 and increasement of phosphorous content.
