A gas mechanical pulsator is developed for the study of combustion instabilities in various combustors such as LRE combustor. First, it shows that the mass flow rates and the perturbation frequencies can be successively controlled by the inlet pressure and the rotating speed of a rotating disk with many holes. Second, the device is used as an acoustic amplification source as a substitute for the speaker in the previous acoustic tests and its results show almost the same resonant frequency and damping characteristics compared with the previous results. In conclusion, the result shows that it can be used as a substitute for a speaker in the studies of LRE combustion instabilities, which has a flow and no limitation of amplification, and a device for making a perturbation source in gas flow.

The present paper includes recent research works on the estimation of physical properties like equivalence ratio and heat release rate of flame through chemiluminescence measurement. Modern combustion devices require a precise control to increase combustion stability as well as to suppress pollutant emissions. The determination of combustion characteristics from chemiluminescence provides practical advantages over other techniques. However, the technique is dependent on equivalence ratio, combustion pressure, inlet temperature, turbulent intensity and fuel type. The intensity ratio of $OH^*$ and $CH^*$ has a strong relation with an equivalence ratio for methane/air premixed flames. The global measurement of chemiluminescence is accepted as a good indicator for a global heat release rate.

A two-dimensional isothermal model has been employed for numerical simulations of a high temperature hydrogen fuel cell with proton exchange membrane. The model is validated with existing experimental data and used for examination on the effects of various operating conditions on the fuel cell performance. The present numerical results show that the cell performance increases with increasing exchange current density, ion conductivity of the membrane, inlet gas flow rate as well as operating pressure. Also, higher porosity of gas diffusion layer (GDL) results in higher cell performance due to enhancement of the diffusion through the GDL, where the cathode GDL porosity more influences on the performance as compared with the anode one.

The characteristics for hydrogen production and the thermochemical properties of high temperature steam electrolysis(HTSE) device have been numerically analyzed in a two-dimension, steady-state with using the COMSOL $Multiphysics^{(R)}$. The main parameters for the calculation are applied voltage, ASR(Area-specific Resistance), temperature and pressure of the inlet gas flow. The results showed that thermal-neutral voltage was 1.2454 V and rather than the cell temperature increases or decreases with increasing applied voltage by thermal-neutral voltage starting this voltage the temperature in high voltage tended to rise and temperature in the low voltage tended to fall. And with, increasing the values of ASR, temperature inside the cell and the hydrogen production rate were decreased.
A liquid rocket engine goes through many tests to prove its performance before liftoff. It means the tests for setting ignition and start-up conditions or a test on design condition, which verifies the design performance. However, the development process requires verification of performance under off-design conditions through tests involving different operating conditions, which affects the duration of engine development. The off-design performance test is performed by altering the conditions of the propellant supplied to the engine in conjunction with the engine performance test that varies the opening of the control valves in the engine. This paper is based on the results of the engine tests performed at the KSLV-II engine test facilities in the Naro Space Center and describes the operations of the test facility for off-design condition test that changes the inlet conditions of the turbo-pump due to changes in the pressure and temperature of the propellant supplied to the test engines.
In this study, the effects of spacer and variation of spacer height in reverse electrodialysis (RED) on the seawater and ion transport were investigated. A three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation for a hexagonal spacer was constructed. The results showed that the swirl in the channel and ion transport rate to the membrane were enhanced at higher Reynolds number, on the other hand, pressure difference between the inlet and outlet was increased. Moreover thicker spacer increased Power number and Sherwood number.

The heat transfer and flow characteristics of gas turbine blade tip were investigated in this paper by using the conjugate heat transfer analysis. The rotor inlet boundary condition profile which was taken from the first stage nozzle outlet was used to analyse. The profile contained the velocity and temperature information. This study presents the influence of tip clearance about aerodynamic loss, heat transfer coefficient and film cooling effectiveness with the squealer tip designed blade model which tip clearance variation range from 1% to 2.5% of span. Results showed that the aerodynamic loss and the heat transfer coefficient were increased when the tip clearance was increased. Especially when the tip clearance was 2% of the span, the average heat transfer coefficient on the tip region was increased obviously. The film cooling effectiveness of tip region was increasing with decreasing of the tip clearance. There was high film cooling effectiveness at cavity and near tip hole region.
DABF(Dissolve Air Flotation with Ball Filter) is developed as the DAF with the addition of a fiber ball at the lower part of the DAF. The DABF with a capacity of 4,500 ㎥/h was constructed at Gijang SWRO plant in Busan. Since the ball filter has high filtration rate, the loading rate of DABF was designed from 20 to 42 ㎥/h/㎡. When one DABF basin is in the back washing mode, the loading rate of other two DABF basins is increased to 42 ㎥/h/㎡. Turbidity at the BF outlet in DABF is <2 NTU at turbidity of 5-10 NTU at the BF inlet. If there is no algae bloom and turbidity is low in raw seawater, only BF in DABF is operated and meets <2 NTU at the BF outlet. Even if BF is operated at high hydraulic loading rates, no significant differential pressure increases and reduction in the turbidity removal rate is minimal in a day. Thus, DABF is the pre-treatment technology that provides stable water quality even with BF onlyoperation without DAF operation. Compared with the DAF, DABF requires additional facilities such as valves, piping, and drainage systems for backwashing the BF. But in terms of footprint and operating costs, DABF has more advantages than DAF. With DABF application, the load of the downstream filtration equipment is decreased so that the capacity of the filtration equipment can be reduced. Also, if the downstream filtration equipment is to be maintained the same regardless of DABF, the operating cost of DABF is less than DAF.
The combustion characteristics have been investigated to develop the low $NO_{x}$ gas turbine combustor. The lean premixed combustion technology was applied to reduce the $NO_{x}$ emission. Also, the conventional combustor was designed and tested for the baseline of low $NO_{x}$ combustor performance. The test was conducted at the condition of high temperature and ambient pressure. The combustion air which has the temperature of 500K were supplied to the combustor through the air preheater. The temperature and emissions of $NO_{x}$ and CO were measured at the exit of combustor. The premixing chamber can be operated very lean condition of equivalence ratio around 0.35. The $NO_{x}$ was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ration. The CO was decreased with decreasing the equivalence ratio, but the CO was increased with decreasing the equivalence ratio below 0.45. But, at the very lean condition of equivalence ratio below 0.35 both NOx and CO were increased because of the flame unstability. The $NO_{x}$ was decreased slightly and CO was increased with increasing inlet air flowrate. This results can be used to determine the size of combustor. The low $NO_{x}$ combustor has lower values of $NO_{x}$ and CO compared with conventional one. Consequently the performance of combustor shows the possibility of the application to the gas turbine system.
In recent decades, biofiltration has been widely accepted for the treatment of contaminated air stream containing low concentration of odorous compounds or volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In this study, conventional biofilters packed with flexible synthetic polyurethane (PU) foam carriers were operated to remove toluene from a contaminated air stream. PU foams containing various amounts of pulverized activated carbon (PAC) were synthesized for the biofilter media and tested for toluene removal. Four biofilter columns were operated for 60 days to remove gaseous toluene from a contaminated air stream. During the biofiltration experiment, inlet toluene concentration was in the range of 0-150 ppm and EBRT (i.e., empty bed residence time) was kept at 26-42 seconds. Pressure drop of the biofilter bed was less than 3 mm $H_2O/m$ filter bed. The maximum removal capacity of toluene in the biofilters packed with PU-PAC foam was in the order of column II (PAC=7.08%) > column III (PAC=8.97%) > column I (PAC=4.95%) > column IV (PAC=13.52%), while the complete removal capacity was in the order of column II > column I > column III > column IV. The better biofiltration performance in column II was attributed to higher porosity providing favorable conditions for microbial growth. The results of biodegradation kinetic analysis showed that PU-PAC foam with 7.08% of PAC content had higher maximum removal rate ($V_m$=14.99 g toluene/kg dry material/day) than the other PU-PAC foams. In overall, the performance of biofiltration might be affected by the structure and physicochemical properties of PU foam induced by PAC content.
