  • Background : The aberrant promoter hypermethylation of p16INK4a, as a tumor suppressor gene, is contributory factor to non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC). However, its potential diagnostic impact of lung cancer is unclear. This study measured the level of $p16^{INK4a}$ promoter hypermethylation in the sputum and blood, and compared this with the level measured in the tissue obtained from NSCLC and pulmonary inflammation. Methods : Of the patients who visited the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Incheon, Korea for an evaluation of a lung mass and underwent blood, sputum, and tissue tests, 23patients (18 NSCLC, 5 pulmonary inflammation) were enrolled in this study. DNA was extracted from each sample and the level of p16INK4amethylation was determined using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction. Results : $p16^{INK4a}$ methylation of the blood was observed in 88.9% (16 of 18) and 20.0% (1 of 5) of NSCLC and from pulmonary inflammation samples, respectively (P=0.008). Methylation of the sputum was observed in 83.3% (10 of 12) 80.0% (4 of 5) of NSCLC and pulmonary inflammation samples, respectively (P=1.00). Among the 8 NSCLC tissue samples, methylation changes were detected in 75.0% of samples (6 cases). Four out of seven tissue samples (57.1%) showed concordance, being methylated in both the blood and sputum. Conclusions : There was a higher level of $p16^{INK4a}$ methylation of the blood from NSCLC patients than from pulmonary inflammation. The tissue showed a high concordance with the blood in the NSCLC samples. These findings suggest that $p16^{INK4a}$ promoter hypermethylation of the blood can used to discriminate between NSCLC and pulmonary inflammation.

  • This study is intended to analyze the effect of thin ink-film thickness around rotating printing roll on the printing quality in the gravure printing process which is used for making electronics circuit like a RFID tag with a conductive ink. The present work numerically estimates the film thickness around rotating roller partially immersed in ink, for which the volume of fluid (VOF) method was adopted to figure out the film formation process around rotating roller. Parameter studies were performed to compare the effect of ink viscosity, surface tension, roller rotating speed, immersed angle on the film thickness. The result indicates that the film thickness has a strong dependency on the fluid viscosity, while the surface tension has negligible effect.

  • An ink jetting measurement system has been developed such that the velocity as well as the volume of ink droplets can be measured. In order to measure the ink droplet, a strobe LED light was synchronized to the droplet firing signal in order to obtain frozen droplet images. Then, a LabVIEW based software was developed for the analysis of the droplet image. For the efficient droplet analysis, a user generated rectangular shaped ROI (Region of Interest) was used. By using ROI, the ink droplet image can be easily isolated from the other structures such as printhead and the processing area can be minimized.

  • We report the case of a 33-year-old male who presented with a malignant melanoma on his anterior chest wall. The lesion was only found in the red ink pigment of the tattoo, as were several in-transit dermal metastases. Possible explanations include a pre-existing lesion which was seeded with red ink or the possibility of the red ink causing an inflammatory reaction leading to malignant transformation. This is the first reported case of a melanoma developing in the red ink pigment of a multi-colored tattoo.

  • In Electro-Luminescence Display making process, it is necessary to do high molecule patterning effectively. Recently, one of the most effective way is the patterning method using Ink-Jet head controller. To maximize the effect, it is needed to control each channel of Ink-Jet head and develop that controller. Thus, we implement the Ink-Jet Head Controller which can control the parameters of 128 fire pulses independently, improve the accuracy of patterns more than 100 times previous ones, and apply random patterns.

  • The increasing use of plastics in food packaging materials has led to the issue of food-packaging mutual interactions from residues in the plastics. Plastic films are commonly printed by using solvent-based ink to decorate the packaged food for consumer attention. However, the residual solvents can not be completely removed and they can migrate into the contained food which lead to undesirable off-flavors. Partitioning (Kp) of printing ink solvents was studied in two types of plastic films with different chemical structure and polarity. At $25^{\circ}C$, Kp of toluene is higher than that of isopropanol in PP, but isopropanol showed higher Kp value than toluene in EVOH. This showed that polarity had a significant effect on the partitioning of printing ink solvents into the plastic films. Printing solvents had a higher affinity to the polymer with similar polarity than it did to the different one.

  • Litho printing ink vehicles based on rosin modified phenolic are faster drying, have better durability, are harder and glosser and have greater resistance to water than ones based on ester gums. Ink-Water balance and rheological properties are important in litho printing process. These physical properties is concerned with molecular weight of Resin to use vehicle. So this paper was studied about the effects of changing molecular weight of Rosin modified phenolic on surface tension, viscosity, pseudoplasticity and printability of Litho Inks. The results were as follows. 1) The surface tension of model inks depended on the molecular \veight of the resin : Dispersion componnent of ink increase but non dispersion component decrease as molecular weight of Resin increase. 2) Water pick-up of litho ink is more fast balance, using low molecular weight of Resin. 3) Viscosity, Yield value and Newtonian value of model inks increase as molecular weight of Resin increase. 4) The litho ink prepared with the modified phenolic of which molecular weight is about 20000 showed the highest printing density and gloss.

  • Laboratory test method which determines the emulsification rate of dampening solution and ink has been described In lithography using the mutual repellence of oil and water, the emulsification is produced by dispersion of dampening water and ink because of the printing pressure on a practical press. Rheological properties of Ink-Water balance are the important factors in lithographic printing. The emulsification theory and laboratory test method deduced from Surland and Kim. It is shown that the emulfisication curves relate to the rates of change in the emulsifide ink\`s flow properties, to the shear stability of the emulsion formed To study on the factors determining the emulsion velocity, we have measured water pickup and calculated emulsification velocity constant \`k\` and activation energy.

  • The local surface strength variation of coated papers were measured at various speeds on a number of coated paper samples to study the effects of speed and ink tack on coating pick. Coating pick phenomenon is observed in an ink transfer variation curve as a decrease in the slope of the curve. On the other hand, it causes an actual decrease in net ink transfer to paper with an increase in speed. The effect of speed on coating pick depends on ink tack, ink film thickness and surface properties of coating layer formation of paper. A novel device to measure the surface strength can rate the coating paper in a different order. Comparison are made between dry test of coating paper pick and wet coating pick test of printing in IGT printability tester. Coating formulation is the main key to prevent from coating pick. The binder level increases, the coating pick and the slop decrease. The piling on blanket in printing is a problem when the coating pick is occur on a local area rather than average surface strength of coated papers.
