  • Generally fuel injection system using solenoid have some problems between control signal and mechanical movement like as time lag. Main purpose of the present study is to help the design optimization of GDSI for real engine application. We have adopted two different solenoid driving circuit, namely saturation and pick-hold type and have investigated experimentally the current, needle force, needle opening duration and injection quantity. The pick-hold type driving circuit surpassed a saturation type in the response time and pression control of injection quantity. Accordingly, Using characterization data of operating factors such as time constant, driving force and so on, can be evaluated and adjusted to obtain an optimum injector performance.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate into the development of injection mould with high cooling characteristics using a direct metal RP technology. In order to manufacture the injection mould with a high cooling rate, three-dimensional conformal cooling channels have been generated in the mould. DMT process, which is one of direct metal RP technologies, has been utilized to directly manufacture the metallic mould with three-dimensional conformal cooling channels. In order to examine the performance of the designed mould, injection molding tests have been carried out. The results of the experiments have been shown that a cooling time and the injection time of the proposed mould are reduced by the factor of five and two times in comparison with the injection mould with linear cooling channels.

Hybrid 쾌속생산공정을 이용한 고생산성 사출성형 금형 개발에 관한 연구 (A study on the development of injection mould with a high productivity using hybrid rapid manufacturing technologies)

  • In recent, rapid manufacturing (RM) technology is widely used to develop an injection mould with a high performance. The objective of this paper is to develop the injection mould with a high productivity using a hybrid RM technology combining Laser-aided Direct Metal Tooling process with a machining process. The geometry decomposition has been utilized to improve the speed of the manufacturing for the mould. Mould with conformal cooling channels has been designed to improve cooling characteristics. Several experiments have been carried out to evaluate characteristics of the mould manufactured from the hybrid RM technology. In addition, injection molding tests have been performed to examine the performance of the manufactured mould. The results of the injection molding tests have been shown that a cooling time and the injection time of the designed mould are reduced to one-fifth and one-second that of the mould with convention cooling channels.

  • In this study, warpage characteristics of mobile phone cover through injection molding process were investigated using design of experiments in injection molding process. Warpage in plastic injection molding has a significant effect on quality of product. Effects of injection time, packing pressure, packing time, mold temperature and melt temperature on the warpage of mobile phone cover were considered by numerical analysis and experiment with Taguchi method. The degree of warpage for the injection molded part was measured by using three dimensional coordinate measurement machine. It was shown that temperature control factor has more significant effect on the warpage of mobile phone cover than pressure control factor.

  • Injection time of liquid crystal (LC) by capillary action in a vertically aligned (VA) nematic LC cell takes longer than that in a homogeneously aligned (HA) LC cell because Miesowicz viscosity in the former is bigger than that in the latter. To reduce liquid crystal injection time in the VA cell, we applied vertical electric field while injecting so that the orientation of LC molecules is changed from vertical alignment to homogeneous alignment. Consequently, the injection speed is improved by 25 % when compared with the cell without an applied field.

  • Behaviour of ultra-high pressure diesel spray in a constant-volume pressure chamber was studied with injection pressure ranging from 20 to 160㎫. Sprays were observed by the right angle scattering method. As a result, the spray tip penetration is first proportional to a time, and after that, it is proportional to 0.52 of the time during at the time of injection pressure and back pressure increase. An empirical correlation was made for the parameters of injection pressure, air-fuel density ratio, spray tip distance, spray angle, jet angle of spray and max. spray width.

  • This paper focuses on the modelling of common rail diesel injector using the AMESim code and shows the appropriateness of the developed model. For the developed injector model, simulations are carried out to analyze the behavior characteristics of the injector for the variations of injector model parameters such as orifice diameters, rail pressures, and energizing times. Simulation results show that the diameters of inlet and outlet orifices have close relation with injection quantity. Increment of rail pressure and energizing time provides increment of injection quantity, and simulated energizing time map shows injection characteristics of the common rail injector.

  • Mold-making industry demands currently to reduce the tooling costs and time in mold making, and to improve the productivity and quality in injection molding process. These problems can be easily removed by laminated injection mold which is made with metal sheets prepared by laser cutting and bonded by brazing. Comparing withthe conventional mold making technology which mainly depends on the machining, this new technologyenables an arbitary design of cooling circuit without anyrestrictions of geometry. So it brings about high production rates of the injection molding processes. This paper estimate the conventional and laminated injection mold making process with a simple molding, and also the cooling efficiencyof thoes two kinds of mold with the filling and cooling analysis. The results show that the laminated injectionmold has much shorter tooling time, uniform mold temperature, and shorter cooling time in injection molding process.

플라스틱 랙기어의 사출성형 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Injection Molding Analysis of a Plastic Rack Gear)

  • This study investigates the injection molding of a plastic rack gear and focuses on deflections in the part. The causes of deflections were found and resolved through a trade-off study by injection molding analysis. Based on a warpage analysis, the fiber orientation was found to be a dominant factor in the occurrence of deflections. Changes in the part design and various injection conditions were analyzed for their effects in reducing deflections. Based on the trade-off study, a new part bottom design, injection time, and melt temperature were recommended. A trial injection was done for the new plastic rack gear, and measurements showed that its flatness surpassed that of the original part and met the specified requirement. The short injection time, low melt temperature, and symmetric similar configuration of the part contributed to the reduction in deflections. Therefore, optimized gate design and injection conditions as well as a new part design were validated through injection molding analysis in this study.

디젤유분무의 초기분산과정에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on initial dispersion process of diesel fuel spray)

  • This study is to investigate the dispersion characteristics of diesel fuel spray in the initial stage of the beginning of the injection under the condition of room temperature and atmospheric pressure. It is difficult to analyse that the diesel fuel spray in diesel engine has unsteady intermittent spray. So author installed a fuel accumulator and an electromagnetic controller in order to keep the constant fuel injection rate with the time variation. With this modified fuel injection system, spray tip penetration, spray angle and initial spray development process are investigated by instantaneous photographic method. The results obtained in this study are as follows : 1) The initial shape of injection of diesel fuel spray shows the form of non-disintegrated intact core, but the formation of ligaments increasingly grows as the time increases. It can also be shown that fine droplets become disintegrated out from the ligaments. 2) The slope of spray tip penetration was changed to two different tendencies with time. The transition point of the slope is shown at the time of around between 0.09 msec and 0.4 msec from the beginning of injection. This is transition time from non-disintegrated intact core to formation of ligaments.
