  • Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. In some cases, that approximation causes significant errors due to loss of geometrical information as well as simplification of the flow characteristics along the thickness direction. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the classical shell-based approach. The Proposed approach is then applied to predict product defects and to improve flow characteristics for a precision electronics part. In addition, design of experiment has been utilized in order to find the optimal process conditions for better product quality.

  • Injection molding is representative process of plastic production. Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the various conditions. In this study, moldflow software was used to analyze the cooling analysis. The results of cooling analysis and testing catapult were compared for plastic products.

  • W-Cu alloy was very useful material for a heat sink, high electric contact and EDM electrode. Powder injection molding (PIM) is the optimum manufacturing technology to provide W-Cu components with low-cost and high-volume. We used various compositions of tungsten coated copper powders (W-Cu with 10 to 80 wt-% of copper) to manufacture W-Cu components by PIM. The optimum mixing, injection molding, debinding and sintering conditions to provide the high performance W-Cu components were investigated. The thermal and mechanical properties of W-Cu parts by PIM were measured. Finally, we can verify the high performance of W-Cu components by PIM with the tungsten coated copper.

  • Warpage and weld line are two major cosmetic defects in the injection molding process. These defects are very sensitive to uncontrollable parameters within the process. The optimization of the design variables can be treated with the use of robust designs. Therefore, in order to minimize the warpage and weld line, a special design method to diminish defects is required. In this study, a new robust design method using designer preference to achieve the optimal robust design conditions in the injection molding process is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown with an example of the part of warpage and weld line.

  • Analytical and experimental study were carried out in order to achieve simultaneous coating and injection molding of an automotive armrest. A mold was designed to be included one core and two cavities, which were composed of a substrate cavity and a coating cavity. The materials used were PC/ABS for substrate and 2-component Polyurethane for coating. The predicted flow patterns were in good agreement with experimental results in injection molding and in-mold coating. Based on analysis and experiment, it was found that the optimal processing conditions were packing pressure of 90MPa and holding time of 7sec.

  • This paper proposes an Molding error compensation method that improves accuracy with geometry information of injected parts using three-dimensional measuring instrument. a traditional mold design has been conducted by an experience-based trial and error, whereby generally the mold designer would decide the gate location and processing conditions. as a natural consequence, almost all creats inferior goods. It's just a process of trial and error and caught in a vicious circle. Due to this reason, this paper uses a three-dimensional measuring instrument, a commercial analysis package of injection molding(Moldflow, MPI) to analysis a state of flux.   • Research on the reduction of plastic use to prevent environmental pollution is urgently needed. Accordingly, studies on reducing the weight of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are currently being conducted. PET bottles are fabricated by injection stretch blow molding. In this study, stretch blow molding for fabricating PET bottles using preform studied through a computer simulation. Blowing characteristics are analyzed by varying the start time of the pre-blow, which is one of the process conditions of stretch blow molding. Simulation results and the preform inflation process are presented, and the parameters of stretch ratio, stretching path, thickness distribution, and weight distribution of blown PET bottles are investigated.

  • This paper is aimed to investigate the deformation caused by ununiform contraction of injection molding with highly big differences of thickness by the continuity of various curvature radius. By CAE analysis, the uniform cooling structure and optimum molding conditions are found for Jars made of SAN and PMMA materials and applied to the design of chill. In order toevaluate the molding pressure, resin temperature, molding temperature, cooling conditions, Moldflow program is applied. As results of experiments, the deformation and inferiority phenomena in Jars are analyzed for each factor and proposed the injection molding conditions to minimize the cooling structure and reduce the cycle time.

  • A traditional mold design has been conducted by an experience-based trial and error, whereby the mold designer would decide the gate locations and processing conditions based on the caring characteristics and its functional requirements. The paper suggests an optimal gate location and processing conditions in the injection molding using a global search method referred to as micro genetic algorithm( ${\mu}$ GA). ${\mu}$ GA yields the optimal solution with a small size of population without respect to design variables for saving time that is needed to calculate the fitness of many individuals. Due to the reason, the paper uses a commercial analysis package of injection molding(CAPA) to analysis a state of flux. In addition to that, axiomatic approach .is applied in the beginning of design. It is a useful method to draw a well-organized and reasonable idea to handle a problem.
